Male Human Engineer/4 (ding!)

I need to bring something up that I have been thinking about (at the encouragement of Damien)

I'm losing interest in Eyes of the Ten for the Drongos. Not because I am losing interest in the seeker arc (definitely want to do it at some point) but I have some VERY STRONG suspicions that a New Seeker Arc is going to be released in the relatively near future (within the year).

See this cryptic comment by John Compton.

Also see this more direct post by John Compton.

With the way the Drongos story has developed through season 6 and 7, including heavy participation in the specials last year, I really want to play in a new seeker arc with the Drongos. I feel pretty confident that it will be released before we are in a position to play it, but even more importantly, I would be willing to wait for it as opposed to playing Eyes of the Ten.

What say you fine folk?

EDIT: Thanks for finding those posts for me Damien - those were the specific two I was thinking of before that I couldn't find.

Papasteve08 wrote:

It should be noted that I encouraged the bringing up of the thoughts, not the thoughts themselves.

That said, I totally agree!

Jack said it a while ago... I (Damien) hate older season material, and EotT is season 2. So why do I want to play EotT? Well, for now, it is the only PFS specific retirement arc for your level 12 characters. Yeah, you can do sanctioned modules or AP content, but it's not the same as ending off a PFS career with PFS scenarios.

If we have general (>50%) agreement, I too would like to wait for a new PFS seeker arc (potentially putting the Drongos on hold from level 12.0) until one either comes out or definitely won't come out.

Either way, nothing changes for the next 8-10 scenarios or so. Wow. Quite a way to go. Can't wait.

You're welcome. When you mentioned them, I Googled. My Google-fu is strong.

EoTT thoughts without spoilers, but may spoil your perceived enjoyment.:
I am currently playing through EoTT and have just hit the second scenario. I am finding it to be boring, definitely not challenging and pretty much meh overall. I only know most of the storyline from having run almost all the Season 0-1 scenarios and, even then, I could care less about the big reveal in the middle of the first scenario.

Additionally, the scenario is devised for parties of 4 players and the Drongos have 6. A few of the fights may prove challenging or they may be complete pushovers. We are bold-striding our way through, so it's not that hard for us! :D

End spoiling.

If there is little interest to play EoTT, then Wardens of the Reborn Forge might be more appropriate if this rumored Seeker Arc isn't available by the time the Drongos reach 12.

Pros:
1) Takes the Drongos to level 16.
2) Is classified as an official Seeker arc.
3) Has a bonus for playing it as a Seeker arc.
4) Is designed with newer rules and the challenge level is better than EoTT, but it is more of a dungeon crawl.
5) I'm playing through it, so I can GM it having seen it before as a player.

Cons:
1) Has nothing to do with the Society. (I could fluff up something when the time comes if this is what we decide.)
2) The dungeon is very open-ended and the biggest hindrance to quick play in PbP is a door. Lots of doors.
3) Might not really be of any interest to the characters; set in Alkenstar, primal magic, guns, etc.

---

All in all though, we are probably at least a year away from Seeker status for the Drongos barring RL play, so a new PFS-only Seeker arc may be available by then.

I've read about the wardens, and while it sounds fun on some level, I don't want to do it with the drongos. Perhaps another character.

The prospect of a new seeker arc would be enough for me to want to wait for it to come out, should we actually hit 12 before it does. If we hit 12 and there are no immediate plans for a new seeker arc, then I would consider revisiting doing eott with Cyrus and the drongos.

Just to clarify my thoughts. And im not opening that spoiler. Not doing it... temptation is strong... Must... Maintain... Optimum... Fun factor.... :)

FYI - wait for the seeker arc to actually be announced, Steve. It is possible that we'll be able to do both.

As for Wardens, I have plans to play through that with my first seeker, Jayne Munny, Lawman of Abadar, because he is from Alkenstar. That's pretty much the only reason I would bring this Musketmaster 5/Inquisitor 8 out of retirement (he's amazingly potent, as you might guess. Also kind of less exciting to play, due to his not having nearly the defined personality of many of my other characters).

I thought we were taking about waiting...

... and thanks for the insights BS. I was fearing as much. I'll have more to say when we're level 11ish and we have more information (even if that information is that it's been 8 more months with no sign of a new seeker arc).

I meant waiting to make a decision :P

Talking about that too! ;-)

Visiting friends and relatives this weekend, so very limited posting..

All I know is I want Amaranti becoming a seeker along with the rest of the Drongos. If there's a new seeker arc coming, I'm sure interested. But if it looks uncertain or way too far in the future, I'm cool with EotT as well.

This is pretty much exactly my line of thinking. We have some time before we get there, and at gen con we can get Mikko drunk and make him tell us all of the secret plans for pfs and modules.

I just wanted to bring it up because I had been drinking the conspiracy kool-aid and that is what my brain cooked up. I shared it with a few of the guys a bit in passing, and Damien encouraged me to share it with everyone. I'm glad I did :)

So, if there is room for Ifran, he'd like to be in the series for Faithless and Forgotten parts 1-3... I've assigned a chronicle to him this weekend, so he will be at least 2nd. I am planning on replaying part 1 if we're doing it.

Happy Sunday, guys! I'm caught up on all games right now and I've got a busy afternoon. Monday is Presidents' Day, so I'll be sleeping in and my daughter is also home for the day. That means I'll likely be pretty sporadic on the posts. Just a heads up.

Con of the north was spectacular this year! We even got the chance to show off for our organized play coordinator, Tonya! Best year ever!

And, I got to play Lucius twice, getting him to level six! Angelo, my tiefling conjurer retired after Sky Key Solution, where we managed to do all but one encounter (the RP encounter with the General).

And, AJ and I have recruited Tonya for our next PbP!

Not ashamed to say I am jealous of your face to face gaming opportunities.

Hey all. Got a game of golf planned for today (woo!). I've caught up on all threads last night and this morning. I will try to get another round of posting in on each of the games, but it will really depend on how late the golf game goes.

So... while you're rugging up in your sweaters, just imagine me on a sunny 80º beautiful Texas day, in my unfashionable very white shorts and very white shoes, hitting some white balls around a beautifully green golf course. Why do I PbP instead of doing this all the time?

Oh, right, yeah... because it's f$*%ing 80º in February. The Summer here sucks.

Male Human Engineer/4 (ding!)

So jealous right now...

Wish I was playing golf too.

/sigh

Have fun, hit 'em straight!

No time to post, but just time to brag check this image out...

Me golfing today!

See if you can spot the ball!

Nice work keeping your head down! Based on the blur of the ball I'm going to guess this was nice and low with a long roll once it hit the center of the fairway.

sooooo jealous

-Posted with Wayfinder

Nice, low and sliced the f+%+ing hell out of it... nowhere near the center of the fairway. Good guess though. Just look at that clear blue sky. Mmm.

If it's any consolation, I came back slightly sunburnt. That help?

Depends on where you got that sunburn and if you wiped anything with poison ivy.

What is the next Drongos scenario going to be?

Damo said the new scenario: Thralls to the Shattered God.

Liberty's Edge

Ouch, golfing in February. Yeah, I'm jealous!
Ironically, I live right next to a golf course. And by right next I mean 50 meters. But that happens to be one of the most elite courses in Finland, so one has to have crazy handicap, know the right people, and have a sh*tload of money to get a membership...

Meh, at least we can go sledding there during winter.

And sorry, it's been really hectic at work and at home lately, and I'm struggling a bit to get the posts out.

@Steve: if you were planning to run #7–05: School of Spirits for the alts, I would be very happy to sit one out at this moment. And hopefully get things back on more normal schedule.

It's on the Current and Pending tab of the scenario planner, boys! (also linked to in the Zedroom info)

Steve put it together, actually. We should all be checking that.

Jyri, hope things calm down on the home front... so you have enough time to post and to work on your handicap!

Oh, and when thinking about how hard GenCon was this year...

... accommodations for the hotel where PaizoCon is actually held:

Select May 26 - 31

Two queen bed room, $114/night... and the event is only 3 months away.

Anyone thinking Seattle instead of Indy next year? Maybe this year?

I would love to do paizo con one of these years, definitely not this year.

Logistically, gen con is perfect for things like vacation days for me because it falls a month after the July 4th holiday. Our plant gets a week of holiday during that time, but due to the nature of my job, I am often working through that holiday week. So I get comp days. Which means I can use those days to go to gen con without actually using my vacation days.

If I did paizo con, I would have to use vacation days... Not impossible, but would require more planning with the wife and family.

The rest is just about money, and that's just budgeting, definitely not impossible at some point, just not going to work out this year.

My sister also just got engaged. She lives in London.... So next year I might not be doing any extra trips if we are going to London for a destination wedding.

-Posted with Wayfinder

Those dates are an emphatic No for me. That is if I would like to remain married, which I very much do. :)

Oh, GenCon 2016 is full steam. It was more for next year with a throwaway comment in there. Since I'm flying so damn far anyway...

The wife and kids would like to see Seattle, so pretty sure that'll replace GenCon 2017 for me next year (if anything).

Male Human Engineer/4 (ding!)

If I ever did PaizoCon I would almost certainly be bringing the family as well, which would probably cut into the time I spent at PaizoCon.

Seattle would be a pretty cool place to visit though. We've talked about that for a while...

I'm sure our families would get along! And then our wives could look after the kids, the kids could distract each other... and daddy roleplay time!

Male Human Retail Manager 9 / Musician 8

Steve, is that a curling pic from the archives, or are you still driving up to Lewiston to curl, and if you are, I'm mad that you are not stopping by to say hi when you do!

Yea that is last year's Bonspiel. I have serious consideration to driving to Lewiston on Thursdays for curling... It's only about 2.5 hours from battle creek.... Not impossible...

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up, daughter had the flu yesterday, and just got an email from one of my colleagues that she has the flu. That means I will be pulling double duty at work today.

I will do my best to keep up.

Sucks mate, hope your daughter feels better soon and that work is nice and calm on this <insert local weather conditions here> Monday.

20, grey, and snow Wednesday.

Hope your ass cheeks are still sunburn! :)

Sorry. Olive skin. The sunburn was a lovely tan within 12 hours.

Know that little box in the bottom right corner of the webpage, the one that has recent posts and all. Well I saw there was a post on one of Chris's (Not Lockwood) games - he was DM Crispy right?

So I clicked on it and it seems that they are on their 4th GM, but still plugging away.

I give those folks mad props.

::Moment of silence for Chris (Not Lockwood)::

I never even knew your last name, online friend with 6 kids.

Yeah, so strange him disappearing like that. I do like to believe he simply quit and nothing tragic happened. It's probably also the most likely scenario, given the degree of online privacy he maintained about his personal life - ie. I'm sure the AOL account he gave me wasn't his actual email address, because what self-respecting under 70-year-old uses that?

Also, the alternative is terrible.

Male Human Engineer/4 (ding!)

Same thoughts here. Glad to see the game didn't die, you have to appreciate that kind of tenacity. This game is fun and when you get a good character flow and story going, it is hard to let go of for sure.

I also think the same thing, I shudder at the thought of the bad side of what his disappearance could mean, so I chose to remain optimistic that everything is fine and he is just enjoying more time with his family.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Hey all!

As you may or may not have noticed, I've been posting a fair bit more during the day recently. This is part of my new zest for RoW and the trickle-down effect of either posting in there and following through to other threads, or finding nothing to respond to there and doing other threads instead.

I don't know if the pace will keep up, but I thought I'd mention a small change to my 'regular' schedule (posted on my Wilmannator profile). I will no longer be posting prior to 9am (central). Partly, this is because my increased night-time activity means there has been a lot less to respond to at that time. Partly it's to help me increase the duration of my morning workouts. If I have a rule that I just flat out don't post until 9am, I won't be tempted or worried about people waiting for me.

Please consider yourselves informed.

Also, Paizo has been down on me more times today more times than St. Susan, and it's been generally flaky of late. You all know my feelings on this. It hasn't been getting me down as much as it used to, and this may be because I'm in fewer games of late (only GMing 1 really helps). My ctrl-a + ctrl-c fingers have also been doing their trick prior to my "Submit" button finger, so I have yet to lose a post (or even an edit).

However, if it becomes a consistent and prolonged issue again, I will (100%) just f#$&ing quit. I have no desire to go looking for an alternative site again, nor any desire to play (long term) like this. This has a tendency to keep happening, so if this time turns out to be a prolonged issue, I have very little faith that it will be resolved to my satisfaction over the long run.

Apologies to the players and GMs this will affect. I will try to quit gracefully should that unfortunate set of circumstances arise.

Oh, man, Paizo.com! You picked the wrong f+#$ing time to go down again. The very wrong time! Goblins tried to eat this post. I meant what I said about ctrl-a + ctrl+c, though, so saved it. Originally written at 4:10pm, Feb 24. Re-post attempted at 4:18pm.

Been thinking about that a lot lately too. The realization that I came to is...

What would make the site flakiness easier to handle is if they would just freaking communicate. It's easy, watch this:

Attention Paizo website frequenters! We are working diligently on upgrading your web experience, and as a result, you may see some intermittent downtime issues from [x time] to [y time]. Our apologies for the inconvenience.

Viola! Easy. Nobody is annoyed beyond belief.

To be fair... they did post on facebook the paizo website was being overwhelmed due to the twitch/humblebundle announcement

So now I need to use Facebook to view site announcements? Hell no.

Male Human Engineer/4 (ding!)

agreed - It isn't that difficult to send out announcements (email addresses are tied to your log-in)

For craps sake - they could even put a header on the page, or send out PMs, Just make an honest effort.

Now that said, humble bundle is unbelievable... Holy balls thats a lot of stuff for not much money.

Huh. And it ate my edit to the above.

It was a resounding agreement with Steve. I'd prefer no email, but they can modify the 'nostore' for a specific apology when the site is down-down, and a top-of-page announcement is easy as.

There are two vastly different categories of users of paizo.com, too. Forum users who PbP / trawl forums and who use it frequently... and shoppers who go here to buy stuff. As bad as a site down is for us, Paizo loses little to no money when we get the goblins. They lose (I'm assuming) money every time a shopper gets it.

I know the shoppers crash the site, but it should be in their interest to beef up the servers for events such as these.

Whatever. Years later, they still don't care. I don't either. When it stops my fun, I'll stop. Possibly for 24 hours at a time, and when that becomes untenable, forever.

Sovereign Court

Male God Forum Paladin 20

Regarding announcements, yes, a hanging splash frame on top of the site informing about the issue at hand would be the best. Especially when you can click X to close it forever.

And using only Facebook is ass. Facebook already has algorithms that are astoundingly idiotic, meaning some people never see updates from Paizo even if they are following it. You'd need to back up with at least Twitter. Actually, the latter (Twitter) would be a much better choice for such announcements.

I've been coming here so sparsely recently (interest in PbP waning) I haven't been affected by the downtimes nearly at all, but I did see a no-store splash. I can imagine serverspace costing some, but it might free up them from other tedious tasks. Dunno, I've always imagined Paizo to be a workplace where everyone is overworked all the time, because HR doesn't realize they could hire more people instead of burning out who're left there.

Well, they are on twitter, but they're not using it for site down announcements / apologies. Hell, even torrent sites apologize for downtime on Twitter.

As for burnout, that might explain Season 7. Urgh.

BTW: Technically this isn't posting. Okay, okay... it is. Getting onto the bike now.
