The Avalon Chronicles

Game Master lynora

This is a high level rules light game set in a school for magical kids, kinda a mash-up of Soul Eater, Harry Potter, and X-Men. :)

Hmm, you want to see halflings? That might work for my idea...

Oh, you're making one. Nevermind.

Oh, and i have two charecter ideas in mind...
One is based off of zero (megaman franchise)-
Basically, a soulknife/armor bonded who learns new sets of tequiques from every enemy he defeats, is very fast, and can slash open energy bullets.
Even shorter version- really awesome insanely fast robot Jedi.

And the other is based off of light attacks, and omni-energy. (So much i wanna keep hidden about this one, should it enter play. But I'm afraid it may step on toes.)

Ace has an Int of 36, and even he doesn't have perfect recall, and I'm not talking about just his missing memories either.

He's gotten drunk, he's had serious emotional experiences, suffered a a few concussions/head injuries, etc, all things that can affect your memory.

Of course, you're playing a robot, so in this case, you're cheating. Nothing normal can mess with your memory. EMPs or other electrical/tech effects might, but you're probably protected vs them, aren't ya? Maybe not immune, but likely a lot less susceptible.

Yes. Because int and memory are not equal to each other. Perfect memory certainly helps get a high int, but isn't a requirement.

One of these could be interesting and goes well with a halfling.

Could Sara get a reply from Sun?
And Lewis get a reply from Repp? Or are you waiting for the arrows to show you kitty?
And Tybs needs to know if Onei will teleport across the sleepy Remorhaz with him.

It just hit me

I'm now thinking Carl is like Dave Lister from RedDwarf [he even likes Currys], Arthurs is like Arnold Rimmer and "Hermes" is like Kryten, where Carl keeps trying to Get Hermes to brake his programing and be a free being where Arthurs AKA Arnold Rimmer want to keep him under the thumb and cleaning.

Kryten leans to lie

But my point is this LONG and wordy!:

cognition is not comprehension,
This is my BIG gripe with Data and such,
Unlike Spock who CAN feel but blocks it.
Data dos not feel.

In Computer Science its called a
FC-Y-AI Problem

or "1st create your artificial intelligence" problem
When someone says "Lets get a computer to [Some thing humans find simple] then we can [Something computers can do all day].."

Its the 1st part the forget its the real pain in the A** to do.
Way because a lot of what humans do takes feels and feelings are important, because it tunes out once you start to get into higher levels of intelligence in the animal kingdom with us at the top, you start getting "Feeling" embedded in complex behavior. Our brains its seems use feeling with in complex logic, [yes we do use such in our brains cognition], because its used to map and speed up complex thinking,
where as just working on logic alone is way to SLOW,

A bear in the woods

Mr WoBot
"O a sound lets analyse it"
"O some movement lets analyse that as well"
Crush Crushcrushcrush crush ARRRR!!!"

Human With silly Feelings

"A sound, whats that!" get ready for danger
"Movement!" start moving away from it
"LOOK BEAR RUN!"
Lives

What dos any of that mean, it means on a very base level,
"We encode experience and events with feelings so we can link
cognition to comprehension in a very fast way"

The Can I kill it?->I Can I eat it? _> Can a Sc*w it
way of thinking

Poor old Mr Data may think faster but he dos not comprehension faster, in other words poor Mr Wobots unlike humans is very limited an only good for counting whats on the shelves and stacking them.

This is why AIs are not so simple to make after all.

my Point is this, TinMan comes over as nothing more than a Datapad with legs so far, no if he started to show, original complex behavior than wow mumma we could be on to a winner,

"no whats this, its not a banana its an?"

Now as someone who has seen all of two episodes... Who is Arnold rimmer?

N/A Male voice Robot Ninja10/Machinesmith 1

I think the bear scenario would go more like.
"Crunching leaves mean ground movement.
Common predators in this area include dah dah dah.
This is a bear. Bears do not pose a threat unless provoked.
I am not a viable food source for this bear nor is it likely to see me as a threat. I will now leave so as to not provoke the bear unintentionally. It follows me and threatens harm. I turn and hit the bear between the eyes and it is now unconscious. I leave before the irrate bear wakes up."

And this all happens at the speed of Google getting 6000000 results in .46 seconds.

And in my book, creating original inventions for no purpose other than being able to, having no prior knowledge or need to do so, is self expression.

Just because he isn't being human yet doesn't mean he won't be. He's been here for about 3/4 of a day thus far.

Arthur's a bit more Ace than Arnie. (Ace is a much more competent, likable alternate universe version of Rimmer)

That's not it. Race was undecided, so i thought- oh, sure, maybe...

It wasn't a "yeah, this is the race" thing, just a "hey, that might work, and he wants to see it, so why not?" Thing.

Yep thats fine, I'm cool with that, its the perfect memory AND understanding I'm having a problem with.

More robot AI drivel:

Understanding, well yes lets look at the bear again this is where AIs fall down, put "bear" into Google now start reading the 6000000 results, which one is the right one? which may help, which is wrong, which could get you killed? Humans do this all the time, but we can filter because some thing FEEL's wrong when seen in Context.

See this is call just "context" in the AI world and its why computers can type what you say [not always well], but have real problems understanding "what" you just said.

The ability to understand meaning is just not "there" without an understanding of "context" when Contact is linked to emotions, then the real problems start for any kind of AI, its why we have such a empathic systems built into out bodies. We really do FEEL what others feel.

Now your a human playing a robot, you can't see how much "Feeling Context recognition" your doing, feeling your way along situations and events, you can play a robot we all kind, , to really make and AI is one hell of a problem,

look at it this way, you had the wobot think, "I am not a viable food source for this bear nor is it likely to see me as a threat. I will now leave so as to not provoke the bear."

The context you gave was I'm Safe, then you said I will go.
If your safe why go?

The bear stops and looks at your Robot, can your robot tell what its thinking?

For context, as noted by this post and Lord Foul's there are players in this game on the autism spectrum. Also I am the parent of a child on the autism spectrum. Having to act as an advocate for my child with the public school system has made me more than a bit sensitive on the subject, especially with all the crap that popular media can dish out and misconceptions that people have as a result.

I have met some people on the far end that are nearly non-functional.*

However, these are rare cases. the media only shows these cases- the rest are too "boring". thus, even though it's the execption, not the rule, it's all you see of it. Most people with autism function fine in socioty, even if they are a little odd. aren't we all?

As far as the robot thing goes, I think the 'perfect' memory would mostly apply to things like menial tasks and memorizing textbooks, with a chance of ocasionally misplacing a data directory.

So basically he can always take 10 on memorization checks, and take 20 on memorization checks to learn a simple mechanical skill like piloting. Basically he can easily beat the DC. However trick flying is another thing and comes with a risk of failure. Does that sound fair to everyone? I think it keeps the flavor of the idea without letting him be too perfect.

Female awww, but that would be telling unknown

This was my linear algebra course. Seriously, I learned the entire course from Khan Academy in the four days before the final. I had gotten a D- on the midterm before, but then after doing that binge I aced the final, got a B+ in the course, and made the Dean's List.
