This thread is for the second table of my Tales of the Nalbrin campaign.

Liberty's Edge

just dot for now when wil km the rest of the threads be up?

Liberty's Edge

and dot for the pet

Thanks for the pick! My family is still dealing with the flu, so it might take me a couple days to get my whole profile set and completely ready (especially since Wednesdays are typically a 12-14 hour work day for me). I apologize for that and will get it done as soon as I can.

Dark Archive

I am having difficulty getting a new alias set up for some reason. I will be ready as soon as I can

"Reporting for duty as ordered, shir."

There is no trace of insubordination in the statement, merely a complete absence of the enthusiasm normally characteristic of the Nalbrin. The verbal slur is faint, but a droopy look in his eyes, and, should you get close enough, the smell of raw liquor on his breath, confirm that this dwarf has been drinking.

I, on the other hand, am very excited about the game. Thanks for setting up two tables, Sarpadian.

Guys, Mattock recently lost his family, and he's drinking to deal with it. I figure the Nalbrin command has sunk so much into his training that they'd try to rehabilitate him before drumming him out of the corp. Is anyone up to be his 'minder', someone the brass told to watch him and keep him sober?

I guess that I have to shop for Mattock now. I hate shopping.

Liberty's Edge

I don't mind I had a friend that went through the same thing in rl had to slap the drink out of his hand some times lol he's all good now tho ^_^ oh and if some of what I put down dose not make sense I just had my pupils dial at I'd so everything is blurry on my phone ^_^

"Falgard Dalvik, reporting for duty, sir!"

Falgard stands at attention, awaiting his orders. After a moment, he spies Mattock slouching beside him and commands him "Stand up straight, you shale-spined drunk. You're a member of the Nalbrin, and damn it you'll act like one."

Totally excited to get in! Again, I'm experienced with Pathfinder, but have never done PbP before, so try to bear with me as I learn the format.

Mattock, my character will totally keep after you, but don't expect any loving sympathy or gentleness from him.

Mattock swivels his head to look at Falgard. Perhaps he has to lean back to focus, perhaps he rocks back too far on his heels and momentarily loses his balance, either way he gives the impression of looking down his nose at the more disciplined dwarf. One eyebrow cocks upward and his eyes slide toward the commander. Then he pulls himself straighter. It can't be helped that his stomach sticks out a little farther than his chest, a fact accentuated by the broad blue sash around his waist.

Thanks, guys. Should provide some good RP. "Shale-spined drunk" Nice.

Mattock's poor body control only serves to accentuate how rigid Ulfgar's posture is, and how precise his movements are. He offers a salute before joining the chorus, "Ulfgar Helmhammer, reporting for duty, sir."

i still have a bunch of stuff to finish, but most of Ulfgar is up in his profile now... the two biggest things i need to do are memorizing spells and spending the gold i set aside for potions/scrolls... i'll try to get to that later tonight but can't promise anything.

ps- GM, could you please open up the gameplay thread so we can dot it? that will make it waaaay easier for some of us to keep up with the posts...

The gameplay thread is open.

Grand Lodge

With a thud and a grunt, the door opens once more to recive Trask Morgoth into the room. He get up off the floor and dusts himself off. His imaculate uniform is now dirty, and his finely trimmed beard has a stick in it. "Many apologies, the uh- door was stuck." He pluck the stick from his beard, retrives the well worn drum sitting on the ground, and swiftly steps into line. "Line coordination officer Morgath present and accounted for sirs!"

this isn't essential at all, but as a tip for any new(er) players, you can dot a thread and then delete the post and it will still grant all the benefits of leaving the post up (like being able to see when new posts have been added, and having the game appear in your campaigns tab), only without cluttering the thread.

know you know... and knowing is half the battle...

I've been on these boards a while, and I didn't know that.

Thanks for the tip.

I forgot to mention that the discussion thread is up too. Check in there as well.

Two players have neither finished their characters nor responded to the PM I sent them asking if they were still interested in this campaign, so I'm opening recruitment. It will close as soon as I have two acceptable submissions. I've kept the other four players waiting long enough. I'll consider any submission, but the party could probably use some help in the skills department.

Adventure Premise:
The premise is that the player characters are all members of the Iron Mountain dwarf militia. The Iron Mountains are a cluster of mountains in the north central part of Kassht. The plain that surrounds the Mountains was once the Northern March of the Kingdom of Kassht, a predominately human kingdom. The Kingdom and the dwarves were staunch allies against the creatures of the Frozen Wastes to the north and the hated drow who lived on the other side of the mountains on the west side of the plain. Forty years ago, however, a horde led by the Taloth orc clan was able to force the humans to retreat to the other side of Arkhym's Teeth to the south. They tried to get the dwarves to come as well, but they were too stubborn and decided to fight for their ancestral home. To the humans' surprise, the dwarves have successfully defended the Iron Mountains, though they are unable to push the orcs and their subjugated races back. The Iron Mountain clans are effectively under embargo, however. The only trade that goes in or comes out is what the dwarves can smuggle out through secret exits and down the Alenka River to the Kingdom. Your first mission, should you choose to accept it, will be to escort a shipment of metal down to the Kingdom and bring supplies back.

Character Generation:
ources: No guns, but otherwise Paizo material that I can find on the PFSRD will probably be allowed. I'm willing to consider 3pp material if you can give me a link.
Level: 2. The catch is that your first level has to be a level of monk. Your 2nd (and subsequent) levels can be in any class except barbarian and gunslinger.
Alignment: LG, NG, LN, N. Normal alignment restrictions for classes are still in effect.
Races: Dwarf...just dwarf :).
Stats: 25 pt. buy.
Traits: 2 (no drawbacks)
Wealth: 1,000 gp
Campaign Bonus Feat: see campaign info page
HP: Max for your monk level, max for your 2nd level, and subsequent levels will be .5*HD+1.

For any interested in possibly applying, so far we have:

- Zen Archer/Inquisitor (with pet)
- Master of Many Styles/Fighter
- Monk of the 4 Winds/Wizard
- Sacred Fist

Crafting allowed?

Yep.

Perhaps a monk/rogue.

Working on details.

Silver Crusade

Yes, I saw the old post. I was thinking along the lines of

Hunter
Or ranger.
Or just straight up monk.

OK, think I've got something sweet.

Monk/Rogue >>> Hungry Ghost/Scout.

Does that step on anyone's toes? Anyone like it?

I do.

I like and appreciate the bonus feat, armor/abilities. Sweet.

Silver Crusade

I have a concept forming.

dwarf ranger, most likely base ranger. Thinking crossbow weilder as I have never attempted a crossbow wielding characte . I would have made a battle rager but doesn't feel right without barbarian ;p

Concept- dwarf that prefers hunting orcs alone or in a small group, prefers the rocky peaks and crisp air over stale cave air so works to keep his home safe. Depending on GM he could be well known among the dwarves or no . My back story will change based on this. Uses a dwarven long axe/hammer if caught in melee.

Would you be OK with allowing me to use perfect strike from zen archer with a crossbow?

Silver Crusade

rough draft crunch:

Dwarf alt racials+ mountaineer, rock stepper, possibly surface survivalist and the SR one.
Zen archer 1/ ranger 1
Traits-armor expert, undecided
Stats-

Dex:18
Con:14
Int:10
Wis:16
Cha:06

HP:18
AC:20

Feats-
1-rapid shot, undecided (either PBS, rapid reload, or combat reflexes)

Arms and armor: studded leather, heavy repeating crossbow, dwarven long hammer.

Favored enemy: orc

Looks like Investigator has Trapfinding covered.

Checking out other rogue archetypes. Thinking Counterfeit Mage.

Alrighty, then...

Morgan Blackflame was always slender and ill-fated trait. So no one was surprised when he became sick and deteriorated quickly.

What was surprising was that he did not die, though he'd never grow our of his narrow frame by dwarf standards. Making matters worse, he sprouted and grew tall.

Unable to follow traditional "straight-forward" paths, he turned to picking up select skills from a multitude of disciplines. As much as any warrior, he would defend the Iron Mountains and the clans.

Morgan:
Monk (Hungry Ghost) 1/Rogue (Counterfeit Mage) 1

Stats: 10, 16, 14, 13, 16, 12 (after racial)

HP: 20
AC: 19 (+2 armor, +3 dex, +3 wisdom, +1 dodge)

Traits:

Threatening Defender (combat expertise, -1 attack penalty)
Guerrilla (+1 Kn Nature & Survival - becomes class skill)
Rock Stepper - Alt Racial, replaces Stonecutting
Stubborn - Alt Racial, replaces Hardy

Feats: Campaign, Dodge, Weapon Finesse

Class Features:

Monk 1 - ac bonus, bonus feat (dodge), flurry of blows, punishing kick, unarmed strike 1d6
Rogue 1 - sneak attack +1d6, magical expertise

Skills: 15 (includes +1 fave class)

2 Acrobatics +8
1 Bluff +6
1 Diplomacy +5
1 Disable Device +7
1 Kn (local) +5
1 Linguistics +5
2 Perception +8
1 Sense Motive +7
2 Stealth +8
1 Survival +8
2 Use Magic Device +6

I can create or update an avatar if I'm selected... or is it required now? Let me know what you folks think... DM and players.

Tried to find a niche and complement the current folks.

Thoughts?

Figure Lawful Neutral with Good tendencies. Or Lawful Good with with Neutral Good tendencies, whatever you feel best if selected.

I like the concept. There's an elite group of Nalbrin who are devoted to guiding the cave exits from the outside. It would make sense for that to be a goal towards which your character is aiming. He wouldn't be well-known yet. I'm fine with you using Perfect Strike with a crossbow, but repeating crossbows are exotic weapons, so you would need to pick up Exotic Weapon Proficiency. I'm also having a hard time accounting for your point-buy; by my math you spent 27 points.

Morg wrote:

Actually, the Investigator is one of the players being replaced, but your concept is still fine.

Silver Crusade

doh, you are right, I didn't want to have a 5 charsima.. I'll drop con
and I am unsure on whether or not to grab the exotic crossbow, sense at 6 I wouldn't really need it anymore :P

Thanks!

Anything I should be doing to improve my chances or popularity as a candidate?

Morgan

I think you've got too many skill ranks, and Craft (armor) and Craft (weapons) are two separate skills that you have to rank independently. Armor expert isn't doing anything for you because leather armor doesn't have an ACP to start with. You should either pick different armor or a different trait. Speaking of which, you can't have armor expert and reactionary both, since they're both combat traits. You also get a bonus language, chosen from the list for dwarves.

Morg wrote:

Just go ahead and make an alias! (I've added the names of the Iron Mountain clans to the campaign info tab so that you can pick a name accordingly.) Everything seems to be in order so far, though you pick your bonus languages and buy gear.

The first gameplay post will be going up tomorrow morning.

Silver Crusade

Yup realized that after I looked it over again. However I hadn't noticed the skill problem thank you. I suppose craft weapon allows me to make arrows? If so I'll keep that.

I meant for it to be studded leather I'll swap reactionary out for something.

Snow and work had me busy, working on avatar, now... Apologies!
