Piece Together the Impossible - Shattered Star (Inactive)

Game Master Tierce

The Adventures of a group of Pathfinders as they try to piece together an ancient artifact.

1 to 50 of 121 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>

Thought I would start a new pbp Adventure Path as some of my current campaigns have sadly ended. What better Adventure Path then the one that allows you to play a member in the Pathfinder Society!

Recruitment will be open until Sunday, June 9th at 11:59pm EST

Story will be the main focus of this campaign and combat will be streamlined for the purpose of pbp. Back stories are the deciding factor in this recruitment, so make sure to make them good. Characters with flavorful ties to Varisia and to the Society will get extra attention.

Crunch - Follow Society Rules for Character Creation
HP: Full at level 1, average every level after
Stats: 20 point buy
Traits: 2, one of which must be from the Shatter Star Player's guide
Equipment: 150 gold
Classes: All Society Legal
Races: All Society Legal including ones you would need a boon for (Goblin, kitsune, etc...)

For Society legal play, check out Additional Resources
For Player's Guide, check out Link

Please don't hesitate to ask any questions.

I would like to submit Brennan Darkblade for consideration. He is a rogue with...issues. I am on travel right now, but when I get home I will update him to be PFS-legal and tune his traits for this campaign.

background:

We are called Brennan, and we were born among the river folk of the Riverlands, competed with others of our kind for resources, and made it through early childhood with few mishaps. In what must be the strangest twist of fate, we were discovered by an agent of The Guild as we attempted to steal some items from a merchant house. He was impressed by the skills of a 10-year old, and sent us to masters who taught us martial and subtle skills...after beating us bloody of course for trying to steal from The Guild.
We were trained as a Procurer - one who is gifted at both stealth and combat, and excels at retrieving items of a sensitive or valuable nature. Our skin was a dark mottled brown, nearly impossible to distinguish in the dark, and of great advantage for an infiltrator. Of course, it was "we" already by that point, though no one but us recognized it. There were two of us in the early days, the Student - who learns and repeats correctly for testing - and the Fighter - who determinedly bested childhood rivals for resources. Once the formal training began, however, more minds began surfacing. Skulker was an early arrival, relishing the teachings of subtle combat and backhanded dealings. Shrieker appeared soon after, sending waves of noise into the air whenever he felt overpressured or scared, until the rest of us got him under control.

The control was the hardest part, especially as we realized the instructors could sense that there was something different about us. Something...unnatural. But control came. We were soon able to switch easily between ourselves, each relishing the opportunity to do what they did best. Tracker, Gymnist, even Dozing Wakefulness - as with so many of us sharing the same space, rest of any kind is a blessing at times.

Shortly after we graduated from Procurer training - with the highest marks seen in centuries, and amidst mutters and discordant looks from the others, even then - we were set upon procurement missions both alone with ourselves, and with others. We found a position of sorts in The Guild, traveling from place to place. We learned, we fought, we traded our various skills for money to buy essentials with. We even managed to find armor and weapons tinted to match our mottled skin. We have been approached many times with offers of a more permanent position, but we were happy to act only as a Procurer.

Recently though, the precepts of The Guild have chafed our nature. Though we do not mind the occasional killing in combat, the deliberate murder of unknowing targets is something that makes us uncomfortable. As a Procurer, that does not happen but rarely. But being in close contact with such on a daily basis for over 8 years has made us decide to set out on our own. We know that our chances of completely evading The Guild are slim, but in this life it all comes down to a choice. Do we do what we feel is right? Or do we do all that we are told, in subjugation and fear?

Why are we telling you all this, over this flickering fire in the deep wilderness? Haven't you listened to our words? You have been listening to the Teacher.

about me:

I have been playing D&D and its successors for 15 years, and PbP for 6. I post here regularly, and am currently DMing 3 groups. I want to play again (and not just DM), and I love the Shattered Star PbP. Two of my groups are doing it, but I can separate player knowledge from GM knowledge.

Grand Lodge

Hello GM Tierce:

We would like to apply as a group of 4 people ( we welcome more addition of course to up the party to the max number of participant you wanted) Would that be ok with you?

Grand Lodge

Team Red Hat

Half-Elf n Human:

Gregory Paltaris-1/2 Elf Ranger
Oberst 1/2 elf Bard
Denlin Longarm Human Barbarian
Esther Pennycoat Human Cleric

be are playing in Oberst's RoTRL with multiple post a day and he wanted to play a bit, so we decided to find him an AP we could all be in.

(ps we might change some of the characters depending on the additional members you want to include.)

Algar, is this a standard roleplaying group on these forums?

Grand Lodge

i don't really understood the question.

its not really a standard group like i said 4 of us (+ an other 2 play in Ober's Rise of the Rune Lord) it just happened that there was a DM looking to a few submission for a Shattered star

DM fuanguar:

http://paizo.com/campaigns/GMFsShatteredStar/recruiting&page=4#181

he wanted a complete 4 men party submission. So we figured that we would band together as we "know" each other.

But and other team was chosen.

Therefore since we still want to share an AP where Oberst is playing rather than game mastering

http://paizo.com/campaigns/DaJellysRotRL/gameplay&page=last

Hence my post.

i hope that this answer you question

Dark Archive

Hey, I'm marking my interest. I will research the legal PFS.

I have no issue with a team applying, but will need each person to post with their alias. As I will be taking 4 or 5, the only issue I see is that you will either be accepted together or denied together, so if your ok with that risk, then please proceed.

Also forgot to mention, please include a choice of a PFS faction along with your character. I will be adding side missions and earning prestige along with the campaign.

Factions can be found Here.

Shadow Lodge

"Longarm here. I heard some heads need cracking. I have an earthbreaker, and your face kinda looks like a rock."

Background: Delin is from a tribe of Shoanti that lives in a valley at the foot of the Stony Mounains. Live there is peaceful and he felt the urge to battle from an early age. After wetting his earth breaker on the bones of a marauding orc band he began taking mercenary jobs further and further from home. Eventually he landed in Magnimar, when he was summarily swindled, cheated, and talked into all sorts of misadventures. He eventually ended up owing the Scarnzi several favors and living in the slums of Underbridge, with little more to his name than an earthbreaker and his armor. He has worked for just about anyone who would have him, and heard that the Grand Lodge needed some brave souls to crawl into a dangerous ruin or something, he doesn't really remember the details.

Defining Characteristic: Low Intelligence. Denlin is an affable fellow, but he's never been good at thinking things through. He has made many poor decisions and fallen in with the wrong crowd, and is looking for a chance to get out of underbridge. He is 6'0 tall and a little heavyset, with long hair, and often reeks of cheap beer.

This submission is part of the 4 man group Algar Lysandris mentioned above. If there is anything that doesn't look right just let me know and I'll change it. He is affiliated with Shadow lodge, as is the rest of his group.

After having a look through the players guide for the adventure path I'd like to put in my interest for creating a character for your campaign Tierce. I'll have a better look into this tomorrow to get some ideas on the direction I'd like to take for the character.

Grand Lodge

Here you go DM let me know if you need more ...

Ester Pennycoat

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Denlin and Ester - backstories are a bit short. If you want to keep it that way, its fine, but it would be nice to know a bit more about your characters.

And this goes for everyone else, if you are having troubles with designing a backstory, there are two options I recommend to give yourself some help. Use the random back story tables in the new and awesome Ultimate Campaign. Or use a method that I use by asking yourself the following questions:

Step 1: Write 5 background and concept elements that you feel are important to your image of the character. These can be a concept overview, a list of important life events, a physical description, a personality profile...whatever you need to get an image in your mind.

Step 2: List at least two goals for the character. At least one of these goals should be one that the character has, while another should be one that you, as a player, want to see developed over the course of the game.

Step 3: List at least two secrets about your character. One is a secret the character knows, one is a secret that involves him but that he is not actually aware of yet.

Step 4: Describe at least three people that are tied to the character. Two of them are friendly to the character, one is hostile.

Step 5: Describe three memories, mannerisms, or quirks that your character has. They don't have to be elaborate, but they should provide some context and flavor.

Most of those options will get you on the right path

Grand Lodge

will do DM later during the evening...

Grand Lodge

would you consider this character?

was in a shattered star game as a replacement but the posting died off so I moved on then the posting resumed but I wasn't feeling the party cohesiveness anymore.

anyway take a gander at the profile let me know what ya think.

Oh look, its Ed, Hi ED!

Fetchling eh? They are a boon race, so yes, this is an acceptable character.

Shadow Lodge

Gotcha, I'll have a comprehensive one done later today.

Hey Tierce!

I made this character a week or so ago, using the variant Azata Archetype for Aasimar.

In short, she's a Half-Elf born, treasure hunting, tomb raiding Aasimar. Quite possibly one of the prettiest women on Golarion, she uses her innocent looks to deceive her targets and those around her, getting in to steal the items she's after without raising alarm, then getting out again without even being considered a suspect.

She affords poisons when she can, just in case she's spotted and needs to enter combat, but never fights to kill. Her poisons only knock her opponents out, giving her enough time to escape.

With all of the relics the Pathfinder's wish to recover, they saw her as a valuable asset and took her on board, using her skills and knowledge to bring back whatever fortunes they so desire.

She makes for an invaluable scout alone or within a team. She runs off ahead with her stealthy tactics, so she can report back to those she works with without enemies noticing. That is of course when she's not stealing treasure for herself, such as old relics, paintings, armour and weapons or anything that looks old or valuable.

When working with others: She usually waits for the party to get into combat, hanging about in the background before disappearing and then striking from the shadows/engaging when it looks safe to.

Morality: She doesn't ever try to kill people (unless the need to retaliate and defend herself arises). The only thing making her appear to be a bad person is her profession, when really once you get to know her, she's lovely, compassionate, friendly and loyal. She's also quite knowledgeable.

If you like the build let me know, and I'll get her backstory put into some semblance of order.

Azata-Blooded (Musetouched)

The musetouched epitomize freedom and joy, and travel the world to liberate less fortunate individuals.

Ancestry Azata (Musetouched)

Typical Alignment Cg
Ability Modifiers +2 Dex, +2 Perception
Skill Modifiers: +2 Diplomacy +2 Perception
Replaces Alternate Spell-Like Ability for Musetouched: You gain an additional +2 racial bonus to your Dexterity score.
Musetouched Race Traits: Bralani's Step, Innocent

The capricious aasimars known as musetouched are the most likely of their kind to be found adventuring throughout lands both civilized and remote. Imbued with an undeniable spirit of wanderlust, musetouched feel the constant urge to explore new places, meet new people, and ferret out evil and corruption wherever they lurk.

Of all the aasimars, musetouched tend to be among the most beautiful by most humans’ standards. They possess features with an unearthly charm, such as long, thick hair of a seemingly impossible hue and limpid, jeweltoned eyes.

Musetouched are commonly possessed of innate musical talent and a love for melodies, and many train as bards while they wander. their distaste for oppression and innate love of good draws many musetouched to Andoran and the River Kingdoms, and their beauty and free-roaming spirits endear them to the fortune-tellers and vagabonds of Varisia. Their drive to visit new lands leads azata-blooded aasimars to explore the farthest shores of Golarion; musetouched from the Inner Sea can be found in Vudra and Tian Xia, as well as the crystalline city of Dehrukani in southern Garund, where they are seen as holy beings truly worthy of worship.

Innocent (Aasimar)
No one can believe someone as pure as you could be deceptive in any way. You have an air of innocence about you, and people have a hard time believing you could ever do anyone harm.

Benefit: When you make a Bluff check to tell a lie, your target always wants to believe you, granting you the standard +5 bonus on your Bluff check. This bonus only applies if the lie you tell is either believable or unlikely.

Bralani's Step (Aasimar)
Your ancestor was a bralani, an azata known for its untamed speed in battle.

When in combat, you feel a fierce surge of energy through your limbs.
Benefit: Once per day, you may move an additional 5 feet as part of a move action.

I wanted a nice fresh take for this AP, and this was what I came up with a week or so ago.

I haven't ever played PFS games, so if some (or all knowing my luck) of the above isn't allowed, I'll see what I can do to try and keep her appearance, concept and build the same.

Super interested. Coming up with a concept and should have something around noon or 1pm PST (or GMT-8).

Ethyria looks PFS legal from my stand point. Like the concept too!

Awesome. I'll get the full story up for you asap then!

I'm a Games Journalist in real life, so am always writing articles or on here posting, and I've got a busy week ahead of me.

I contacted Sony's PR yesterday and have secured a copy of The Last of Us for review, and have a Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen review to finish.

I'm also in the process of getting a forum fully ready for fans of the guys I write for, to post regularly. :p

I post practically any time on here, and a lot of the campaigns I'm in have slowed down, so I'm doing very little on here at the minute and really liked the concept of Ethyria when I was stuck for several hours thinking on what I should do with her.

Grand Lodge

Hi Tierce.

no noro for this one...

Human Mwangi Human Huntmater Cavalier.

Background is in the profile. Race class and ability scores have been chosen, the rest should be filled in by tomorrow.

Shadow Lodge

GM Tierce, here is the expanded backstory for Denlin. I really liked the prompts, they gave me a larger framework to incorporate him into, including some criminal and city guard tie ins. Let me know what you think!

Spoiler:

Step 1: Write 5 background and concept elements that you feel are important to your image of the character.
1. Denlin was raised by a Shoanti tribe in the Stony Mountains and wanted to leave home from an early age.
2. He showed great promise in fighting and killed his first orc at the age of 15. He loves the thrill of battle and will jump into a fight whenever he sees the chance.
3. His family did not want him to leave the village. His mother had a marriage arranged to a beautiful local girl, but Denlin refused to be tied down and left home after arguing with her about it.
4. Denlin is a large man, standing 6 feet tall, moderately heavyset, with long brown hair.
5. Derlin has a wicked temper. He can be friendly, but doesn't stand for insults, and doesn't take well to being bullied.

Step 2: List at least two goals for the character.
1. Denlin wants to become rich, rich enough to live in luxury and return home to show everyone how much better life is in Magnimar.
2. As a player I would love a chance to see Denlin re-united with his family, maybe they need something that he can provide, or he has to save a family member. Something that he can use to reconnect with them.

Step 3: List at least two secrets about your character. One is a secret the character knows, one is a secret that involves him but that he is not actually aware of yet.
1. Denlin has fathered two children by a bar wench in Underbridge. He and she are the only people who know, at least to his knowledge, and he is deeply ashamed that he cannot do anything for her other than a few coins occasionally.
2. The Sczarni have picked Denlin as a good target to "recruit" to do unsavory jobs for them. He just knows that he owes them a favor, but they are looking for leverage on him, and are close to finding out about his children.

Step 4: Describe at least three people that are tied to the character. Two of them are friendly to the character, one is hostile.
1. Amora Lindelsa- the red haired bar maid who has been with Denlin on again off again since he got to the city 4 years ago. She has had two children by him and works to keep them fed and clothed at the Ragged Sheep in Underbridge.
2. Jastor Frallino- a leader of a local gang in Magnimar, he has seen Denlin in action and thrown a couple of jobs his way. He is looking for muscle and plans on more vigorously pressuring Denlin in the future.
3. Lucan Bors- a Paladin of Abadar who is a member of the City Guard in Magnimar and has arrested Denlin before repeatedly on charges of drunkenness and assault. He is a distant relative of the Foxglove family and tries to do what is right, he just keeps catching Denlin doing what is wrong. He arranged for Denlin to be introduced to the Pathfinder society to help him get his life in order.

Step 5: Describe three memories, mannerisms, or quirks that your character has. They don't have to be elaborate, but they should provide some context and flavor.
1. Denlin still remembers vividly the first time he met Amora. He was lost and thirsty and had just gotten into his first fight in the city, when he stumbled into the Ragged Sheep for a drink.
2. Denlin challenges almost anyone who insults him to a wrestling match, something that's left over from his tribal upbringing, and has gotten him into trouble a few times when he did so inappropriately.
3. Occasionally Denlin will slip out of the city and spend a few days in the quiet of the surrounding countryside to find a little peace. He can never bring himself to truly leave Magnimar though, because he hasn't gotten rich yet, probably because he's constantly soaked in beer.

This is Selovan Atamarinde (Ah-tah-mah-rin-day), Pendin Fust's character.

I have some heavy formatting work in the profile to do and my backstory will be up later tonight.

Half-Orc Bard who's grown up wandering because of his orc features. Has cultivated his intelligence and non-lethal side to run against the grain of the brutish orc stigma. Joined the Magnimarian militia, became enamored with a captain's abilities in battle and in mercy, and found his intellect and charisma to enable him to relay praise and inspire further acts of bravery to his unit and the captain. Left the militia when he couldn't handle anymore lethality and joined the Society to help aid any groups that need it.

That's the basics.

Dark Archive

I'd like to introduce Nicolae Lovari, an ethnic Varisian who has a strong connection to the fortune telling ways of his people.

Background:

As a young boy Nicolae would spend hours playing with his families worn Harrow deck shuffling and reshuffling them over and over and making mock readings for his relatives and friends. Over time Nicolae's readings, both good and bad, began to come true. His family and relatives saved up enough money to send him to the Stone of the Seers academy in Magnimar so that he could learn to control and harness his gift. Once in Magnimar Nicolae became entranced with the city and all that it had to offer. Nicolae was particularly interested in all the ancient monuments in and around the city and would spend hours of his free time wandering the districts and examining the monoliths. He would then spend even more time in the school's library studying the history behind these icons from another time. After graduation Nicolae remained in the city rather then returning to his people. Using his knowledge of the city he often hired himself out as a guide to the various places within Magnimar. It was on one of these expeditions that he came to the notice of a pair of newcomers to the city, Sheila and Canayven Heidmarch. Fascinated with his knowledge the Heidmarches invited the young man to their manor house and there they explained about the Pathfinder Society and it's goals and aims. Excited young Nicolae volunteered to join the Society and now waits for further word from the two Venture Captains on his next assignment.

Nevermind, I'll withdraw Erothu. After having Paizo eat my character sheet and not post my initial background I'm feeling too frustrated with it to continue at the moment.

Sovereign Court

Greetings GM Tierce.

I am preparing a character for your campaign, I should be done before long - and I hope that my abilities and knowledge with the game system will be enough to make a proper character in line with your demands.

Worth noting is that I am currently participating in a Shattered Star campaign with another group and another character - but posts are few and far between - allowing me time to take part much more in another campaign.

I will post with my character concept when it is done.

Cutler, thanks for letting me know of the conflict of interest. I'm sure if you are chosen that your character can act with as much surprise as would be normally suited

Aye, looking forward to your reply concerning my concept.

Here it is, I used some of your guidelines to fashion his story - as you can see he is knowledgeable (and very much so for a fighter) and not very used to battle - a concept I like much more than a simple powerhouse character. I wish to dual-class him to Wizard eventually - though I am not 100% on your rules on the matter and what I will do with said intention.

His Stat block is in this profile.

Background:
Dressed in tattered furs hung casually over a suit of polished scale mail armor, the young man answering to the name Athyris Credo stands confident with a determined look firmly imprinted on his face. His appearance is seemingly rugged, and one could quickly assume that he is either a guardsman or blade for hire – though his eyes radiate with a color green seemingly out of place – giving him more character than one often sees in such professions. His dark hair is worn long, and his short, bushy beard sprouts from sideburn to sideburn. A Morningstar of decent quality hangs from his belt, though he feels much more at ease when it rests upon his right shoulder.

Most of his days have been spent within Magnimar's walls, where he grew up with a loving mother, father and younger brother. Though the two brothers have not always seen eye to eye, as Magnus showed great divine prowess at an astonishingly young age, the two would often enjoy each other’s company at their father's study – discussing everything from politics to the arcane or divine. Alas, a few years ago Magnus had made some poor choices in his life and ended up indebted to the Sczarni, and suddenly disappeared.

Athyris suffered much from the loss of his brother - and even more so, when the city guard dismissed his plea to investigate the matter - stating that they could not invade Sczarni territory on 'a whim'. Disheartened though still determined to find and rescue his brother, Athyris employed a small group of mercenaries with the coin he inherited from his parents.

Weeks passed and no word from the sellswords reached him. Perhaps they had taken the coin and left the city, or perhaps they had been slain – Athyris did not know. All he knew was that he would wait no longer; he cried to the heavens and begged for his deity to hear his plea. "Why had the Sczarni not ransomed his brother back to him – why had his body not been found, if they had murdered him?" Too many questions and too few answers, Athyris would sit idle no longer. If Aroden would not hear his plea, if his gold was worthless in the hands of others – and if the guards would not have faith in his words – he would find his brother himself.

The next day, the young Vasirian man spent the little coin he had left on adventuring equipment, a Morningstar and a suit of Scale Mail and enlisted with the Pathfinder Society. Perhaps working with them would both teach him the ways of the warrior and give him the opportunity so sorely needed, to find his lost brother. A man of knowledge rather than combat, now forced to forge his destiny in battle - gave one last look upon his father's library before he turned and left his home, and past, behind.

If you do like the concept I will be sure to work on his personality and post it in his profile.

Edit: This is Cutler.

Grand Lodge

This is the start of the crunch for Kate Diane everspell and have a bit of background to start of in backstory.

edit my backstory is getting pretty in depth but not quite to the joining of pathfinder society yet.

We meet again Tierce! I trust the runelords game is going well? I'll see if I can't appeal to you, as my free time at the moment is daunting.

I'll be submitting yet another Mavis from the cheliax-aligned society.

That means LE, yet again. That stabs me in the kidney as far as being able to get in, but I mostly relish in the idea of making lovely backstory for this fancy legacy I've created for myself. I'll post you a character later today.

Duboris - Society Legal rules, no Evil. Sorry buddy

Dark Archive

Looks like I'm going to have to make a Mea Culpa here. Due to the wide variety of stuff that is or is not PFS legal I usually build my characters using Herolab. Unfortunately when I built Nicolae I never clicked the Pathfinder Society button on the Configure Character screen.
Now in the light of day I went back over my submission and did that, only to find that the Harrow Chosen trait and Harrowed feat are not allowed. While this puts a dent in my concept it does not totally derail it. i'm going to replace the Harrow Chosen trait with the Harrow Born trait which is legal and I'll have to replace my feat with another, legal, one once I get a chance to think about it.

Marik, you've discovered one of the society legal things that I wish was legal. Always wanted to play a Harrower.

Just to inform the rest of the applicants as well, Society rules for this apply to character creation only. Once we are in session, leveling up will be able to branch out, so Marik you will then be able to take Harrowed feat at level 3 and be ready for the PrC if you take it.

Finished background. Still need to do spells and equipment.

I think Brennan is final. I just had to check against the PFS build requirements.

Just checking in...I've fallen ill and will try to work on the character more. Back to bed!

Heres Gregory then.

Ill be honest and say that im more interested in getting to play the character, than nessesarily playing with the crew from the other AP. Part of the charm of PbP is playing with different people. If we go as a group, grewat. But if it comes down to just my character, id prefer to be accepted individually as opposed to rejected communaly with the group.

Ill need to put a few more stat points on him since hes made for 15 point buy, and touch on his personality a bit, but otherwise he should be done.

Gregory will be a multiclasses Ranger / Alchemist, mostly leveling Alchemist. With archetypes he will be a trap handler and frontline fighter, with a few buffs for the party after level 5 (Infusion discovery)

Tierce:

I am considering a cleric of Sarenrae who met someone who worked for the mysterious Miss V. of the adventure. The man came to the cleric in a delirium state and vaguely confessed to things he had done in her employ before dying. The cleric would not know of anything specific beyond what is in the player's guide, he would be most concerned with redeeming the man's soul by confronting Miss V's plans. Would this be a problem?

I see, so PFS doesn't allow evil. Hmm. Can't blame them, really. So many people do it so horribly wrong. Wouldn't want that kind of thing to happen in a real life setting.

That being said, I think I'll gun for a Wizard interested in Ancient Thassilon, more than anything. A divinity specialist, of all things. He'd be curious as to why Thassilonians didn't incorporate it into their sin magic.

Well I was planning on rolling up a wizard, but I see we've already got a couple of wizard application that have come through. That's fine though, instead I'll try to get a different character concept together and posted later today and hopefully I won't turn out to be so busy that I can't devote any time to the task :P

Dark Archive
