Ok - Perception checks. You have Luna at +6 - I double checked HeroLab just to make sure, but I have her at +5.
Edit: Now that I have finally taken the time to put my chronicle gold in from Slave Master's Mirror, Just wanted to mention that Pooka is purchasing a ring of protection +1 retro'd to before we leave. (assuming that is ok based on our normal op. procedure)

Thank you - corrected.
Yes, totally ok to retro a purchase until the 1st encounter.

For marching order, Chumley's preferred weapon is a Longspear, so he's good with being a second-liner. However, since traps were specifically called out, do we want him searching down corridors and at doors, then moving to the second line?

![]() |

Thank you. I like how you are placing role play over sound mechanics.
I do have to say that I am not sure that Targath's abrasiveness will not become too much as the adventure progresses. Let us remember the Primary Rule of Gaming, which is have fun. I know you are having fun role playing him, and as a neutral GM, I too find him interesting.
I just don't want your character to have fun, and inhibit the enjoyment for the remainder of the table. Remember this is a shared experience.
To add on, Delzden found himself in conflict with the party last adventure, but he emulated 'good' characteristics whereas the other characters were a bit 'murder hobo-ey'. That to me is positive conflict. I liked it so much I rolled up a LG paladin that I am playing as a partial-pacifist. I think the party is getting frustrated because I have been grappling/overrunning all the bad guys and they just want to murder hobo.
If this came across judgmental, please note that it that was not the intent. As a GM I want to make sure that all my players have a fun experience.
Carry on boys!
I understand that perfectly. It's something I have pondered about myself as well. I don't want to deviate much from my original concept, but fear not; Targath has a liking to raw, brutal power and shows of combat prowess. So far the team has impressed him with the fire spells (Diri's especially was powerful), and it is only a matter of time Pooka will make Targath witness a devastating charge attack.
I personally see these conflicts to be the perfect, best fuel for roleplaying situations. Too often the characters are abiding to the same opinion and method, devoid of differing ideologies. To me that makes the game feel flat. There is a line, however, how far I can go on with Targath's insults, but as I stated above these insults will become less frequent. So far everyone has reacted properly to Targath's obnoxious behavior, especially liking Diri's unwavering demeanor.
While I do dislike the use of swear words generally, they are a key to making Targath feel and look just as obnoxious and irritating as he should be. I'm quite glad Paizo's messageboards automatically bleep them out, it tends to make the message even stronger. But if someone does feel the use of those words is unnecessary, I will stop using them and switch to some more Golarion-y.

![]() |

I was worried at first a little, but so far I think the banter has been great. The current vibe is tense, but only for my character, not for me as a player.
I have no issues with Targath's choice of words. I generally feel the same way. A well timed word, bleeped or not can add to the flavor of the situation, though I try not to use them also. Can't really add any more than that....

![]() |

I know Xull was hit by the server maintenance, hopefully we'll here back from him on how he plans to brave the elements soon (and if he has a survival roll)
On Targath, I'm ok with the banter for now, as long as the group comes together when the action starts. (I stand by the assertion that he's a foul-mouthed cretin though ;))

![]() |

I've intended to play Targath as reckless as possible, so that's why he has the diehard feat and isn't afraid of death. So he will keep standing unless there's high possibility he will not have a chance to counter-attack on his next turn.
Example: A creature with a claw claw bite routine attacks and hits with both claws, critically injuring Targath to something like -10 hit points. Since the bite COULD potentially be Targath's demise, he would fall unconscious and stop being an immediate threat.
If, however, the bite was the last attack to put him into negative hit points, he'd remain standing.
Risky, stupid, just like Targath.

Surviving the cold: Man, a load of discussion to catch up on. Hopefully Targath can help Xûll out with his woeful survival check (mind you, I was aiding... if I were rolling primary, I'd take 10).
Marching order: I'm fine to be in the middle row, but Xûll will happily stand next to Pooka if Targath ranges forwards.
RP: As for the Targath abrasive roleplay, I'm fine with it. Better than fine - I love it. It was good of Stefan to call it out in the discussion thread as something that his character does but he doesn't do personally. So far, it's absolutely fine. When it causes us a TPK... speak to me again. :-P
Paizo's servers: F.U.C.K. Y.O.U!
I personally prefer un-bleeped stuff, but if you guys would rather I don't keep on working my way around the profanity filters, let me know.

![]() |

@Xull - I don't mind your profanity filter workarounds.
In general I have always thought of bleeping like "tastful" cursing. I don't know why, but in the right context I almost find it to have more of an effect as a reader. It's kinda like Lingerie, it leaves a little to the imagination which has its own kind of charm, but you still get the #&*@ing point. (See what I did there?)
Edit: Also agree with Xull's take on the marching order. I knew I was forgetting something. I plan on making Pooka complain about it, but with my new wheeling charge feat, I can work around it, and even reference back to the wardstone patrol game when I first mentioned wanting to do something about the obstacle in my way. I am sure there will be an appropriate time to grumble about it in character. :)

![]() |

On the marching order, I forgot to add that it would be great if Chumley goes forwards to look for traps in those situations where we're dungeoning it, then reshuffle once he's got the door unlocked. Also happy for Targath to run ahead and set off the traps manually... provided he keeps his distance. ;-)

![]() |

Fun fact about traps and Targath, actually. In the first game he played in I remember saying to the GM something in the line of...
"Targath will open the door, and if there's a trap, Targath will trigger it."
That was, however, a scenario noted for being ridiculously bad and easy. Targath was grown wiser over his adventuring time (if that's possible for him) and isn't so impulsive he'd trigger every combat in the scenario at once. He's just impatient if someone (like Diri) stalls.
EDIT: Just noticed Paizo's boards are stupid and censor the word títs. I mean tits. See? It's not even a swear word!

![]() |

What was it that George Carlin used to rant about?
The original seven words are:
Shit
Piss
F%
Cunt
Cocksucker
Motherf!#!er
Tits
In his comedy special Carlin commented that at one point, a man asked him to remove motherf#~~er because, as a derivative of f&&+, it constituted a duplication:
"He says motherf%%*er is a duplication of the word f!$~, technically, because f%++ is the root form, motherf~$@er being derivative, therefore it constitutes duplication. And I said, 'Hey, motherf*@~er, how did you get my phone number, anyway?'"

TheBobJones_GM |

I saw Carlin live when I was in college. He make about a 1/3 of the crowd leave during his set.

![]() |

Well done. You made me actually feel bad enough for a Howler Demon that I risked missing rather than finishing if off. I mostly blame the fact that you named him.

TheBobJones_GM |

Just wait until you get to the encounter where I have my daughter name all the monsters after her favorite Disney Channel stars. :-)
These are viscous pack hunters. Best to put them down. But points in my book for not thinking of murder hoboing everything!

![]() |

What can I say? Chumley can empathize with demon-spawn... but he knows enough to end one that can't see reason. (squish it is, then)

TheBobJones_GM |

When prepping this a few months ago and I was reading this section I was blown away at how many freakin dice rolls there were. Do they get a bonus for adding in more than 40 dice rolls an encounter. I had to make myself an outline to keep all the rolls straight. Might be fun face to face but tedious at best over PbP. I did allow some latitude rather than rolls for some of the checks to see if people wanted to aid or cast some spells to help out.
Lastly you hit the howlers by 1 more than once and I missed by 1 at least once. Tight rolls.

![]() |

Can I just say how impressed I am that you know the word 'fugly', Stefan? Very impressed.
Also impressed at the forum's ridiculous profanity filter for leaving that in, but taking innocent words like 'tit' (tït) away.
Woah. Hold the press.
tit
t@*& (tïts)FFS.
I read this on my phone on the way into work. Think I woke someone up in the neighborhood laughing.
Still makes me chuckle

![]() |

I know a lot of words! Like nudiustertian! And jollux!
I also use this web dictionary a lot. Intriguingly it did know the word fugly as well, which roughly translated to "bucket ugly" in Finnish. I guess the origination for that is that someone is so ugly you have to put a bucket on his/her head.

TheBobJones_GM |

I was under the impression it is a merging of the two words focking-ugly. Thanks Finland for teaching me English slang!

![]() |

I meant to create a bear alias for Targath, but thanks to Paizo's inability to support custom avatars there was only one bear avatar, which uncannily is this. Understandably I forgave the idea.
Don't neglect to scour these Types when searching for weird or animal avatars:
- monstrous humanoids
- magical beasts
- fey (sometimes it just happens)
- outsiders (less often, but you never know)
I think this tattooed bear would be perfect! Search for "akyrak" to find it.
Thinking about this for Xûll when he rages and goes all 'gorilla-arms'.

![]() |

I found Chumley under Giant, of all things. Sadly, the Avatar picking system on these boards kind of sucks, so doing a mass filter of different types is kind of painful.

TheBobJones_GM |

The last house crawl I ran really dragged at points and I am trying to eliminate that here. I am going to outline some procedures but feel free to offer suggestions or feedback. Just don't be mean. I am sensitive and prone to fits of crying.
- most important - you lead the way. Once two or more agree on a course of action move yourselves and delete the spoiler on the map. I will add the second level later today.
- For all traps and evil things I will roll for you assuming that you are actively looking for these types of things.
- It only makes sense that you have a weapon drawn so please declare which one you have
- as Painlord says keep pushing. Xull can you post your tip #1
Hopefully this will keep the action up and we can slog through this with maximum enjoyment.

Diri typically travels in hostile situations with a shield and an empty hand to cast. (But does threaten with the shield, if allowable.)
If there's a trap that seems particularly egregious, she's willing to spend the time to get out of her armor, remove her shield, and lighten her load (removing the -6(!) ACP and giving her a +8 Disable Device).
Otherwise, I'll let someone else lead, to respect the fact that it's a GM Star Reply for me.

![]() |

For Traps, Chumley is actively looking for them and has a Disable Device of +12 (+14 vs. magic traps) and will burn an Inspiration if we find one, so he'll probably have it covered :) SoP is to keep out the Long Spear.
I imagine we'll systematically clear the place, probably starting with the first floor, work our way up, then go downstairs (avoiding obvious pits of Hell?)

![]() |

Oh, and Chumley is totally going to take the Blackros name when he gets married into the family. He's going to be Marquis Chumley Blackros some day :)

![]() |

TheBobJones_GM |

Chumley My primary character took that boon. He is now [i]Lord[/] Finarin.
As I stated above once two or more agree then feel free to remove spoilers. Just don't want one or two people to take over the adventure. We have some people in dramatically different time zones so I try to varry my posting times or post when I feel like most are available.
Since Diri has concurred with Xull's deceleration to move NW feel free to remove spoilers. Working on post now. And eating lunch.

![]() |

I'll get tip #1 posted. I was hoping for some feedback from Painlord himself, but he just favorited my post about it instead. Sigh.
Painlord has his head up his ass right now, but hopes to get to it this weekend. He knows he sucks, but it's been a busy week. Piddlespot that guy anyway.

On Detect Magic: I was thinking that we could just add "Detect Magic while we search the room" to the SOP. Not while we first open the door.

![]() |

Next door opened; I'll let people arrange themselves

![]() |

Ready when everyone else is.
What is kind of awkward is something like the picture. I don't remember anything about it, but what if a casual "just turn it around" means I give some sort of secret away accidentally? Now I'm hoping 'it's nothing' so that I'm not accidentally (subconsciously?) metagaming...

![]() |

In other words, don't worry dude :)

Ok, carry on ...

Posting this to all the threads to catch all the potential GMs out there...
A guy we played with regularly, Chris B, has been absent without explanation for over 2 weeks now. We hold out hope that he will return, but this is (by 2 weeks) the longest he has been away from PbP without notice.
Chris B used to run a game (as recently as 16 days ago) of Curse of the Crimson Throne for a group of people. He did so under his alias of "DM Crispy". I played in it for a while, but bowed out due to a clash of gaming preferences (posting frequency and playing style - an issue that Chris has since resolved, actually). They've been through a few iterations (change of GM, then a change of PCs) but currently have a motivated group now, who are all posting well and regularly (daily+).
Is anyone interested in stepping up and helping out? Maybe even until Chris B returns or is confirmed permanently absent.
DM Crispy's Curse of the Crimson Throne
They seem to be in the middle of book 2.
It's not PFS, but CotCT is sanctioned, so you could get GM credits and hand out chronicle sheets for it (most of them have already signed up for PFS, and I'm sure the two hold-outs wouldn't mind creating "dummy" characters).

TheBobJones_GM |

Map and Campaign Tab updated with child's picture. Her name is on the campaign tab, not sure if you have asked or deduced it from the letter or not.

TheBobJones_GM |

I wouldn't read too much into that. Surprising things happen in PFS.

Quote:Tilly Anders - Orphaned childThere goes Xûll's hope of finding her parents still alive!
Xull, my wife had to ask what was so funny, I laughed so hard at that.

![]() |

I believe that Chumley's poking of the eyes of the "just a cigar" painting quantifies the level of paranoia he / I have in incredibly creepy situations. It has absolutely nothing to do with a long-standing joke about how you should be suspicious of any child found in a combat area due to Paizo writing guidelines, I assure you. Her insistence of coming along definitely caused his evaluation of her to go from "cute kid" to "potential threat" though.
That said, if she isn't some sort of shape shifter demon-spawn and her parents end up inevitably dead, Chumley will probably adopt her. Chumley's character has grown a lot already, given that he was a ball of GM credit a couple weeks ago.
