"I'm Ready!" Ery jumps up after putting his kit away. He takes a sip from his cup before raising a brow to Tereze.
"Show off..." He smirks.
Looking down the cooridore, the elf checks for tom-foolery.
Perc: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
"Looks good. On ward!" He chuckles.
Ery slides down the Hall, to the crossway, waiting for the others as quietly as he can.

His slurps are particularly quiet.

Ahh, Eyr you just wish you had zought to do it first... Tereze replies with a grin.

"I thought being carried by vines was better..." He mumbles, kicking the ground lightly.
He shakes his head, peering down the next Hall.

There are no traps, and Locke has no trouble unlocking the door. Carved pillars in the corners of the chamber beyond hold aloft a double-vaulted ceiling of cracked frescos. On either side of the chamber, a single step leads up into a deeply recessed area that forms an arched room of its own.
You take a careful peek inside. On the floor of the east recess, the perfectly preserved body of a young boy lies in a puddle and stares silently upward. There's also a goblinoid zombie that wanders the room aimlessly.

Lifting his hand, The elf reacts, Casting magic missile to get the jump on the undead...
"Nope, down you go!" He slurps.

Marlinchen: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Zombie Goblinoid: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (1) + 0 = 1
Marlinchen will delay so you're all up together.
The zombie's still figuring out where the missiles came from, giving all of you the chance to act before it does.

Tereze moves aside to let Urbar and Ulfa pass. Urbar draws both of his swords and takes a defensive stance in front of Locke. Ulfa moves up to the zombie and bites it, after which she proceeds to drag the undead to the floor.
Fiona moves a few steps and cast a ward hex on Gwendallyn, who slips into a defensive fighting stance, slips past her companions, and throws a wild haymaker that throws her off-balance.

Tereze rushes over to see if anything can be done about the boy.
She casts a spell to look him over then if it looks clear she reaches out to see if he is alive.
Cast Detect Magic and spends 3 rounds examining him.
Heal to determine if anything is wrong: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

StephNyan |

Beneath the boy's preserved body lies a diary. The name written on the first page is Grishan Maldris. The diary's filled with incriminating information about the families of other students, and describes how Grishan made regular reports to Eagle Knight Colson Maldris. It looks like Grishan engaged in shameful acts to gather the information. If his misdeeds were to come to light, it would result in great shame to his family.
With your combined knowledge on the subjects of magic and healing, and Tereze's detect magic spell, you're able to draw several conclusions. You're postive Grishan's been dead for a very long time, most likely since the tragic incident ten years ago. The necromantic energy that fills the necropolis seems to have had a preserving effect on the corpse.
"The boy's asleep," Marlinchen says. "Maybe we should take him outside on our way out, to bring him to his family. This is no proper place to sleep."

![]() |

"Well, I think I know how to best use this information." Ery suggests that he take the journal for later use.
"It will not be wasted." He said with a fiendish smile and an odd gleam in his eye.
Looking to Marlichen, Ery shrugs. "I do suppose it would be a shame to leave him here." Ery ponders. "Marlinchen, would you mind taking him to the classroom that was topside? We'll collect him there after."[/b]

![]() |

Is it clear if he decided to do those shameful acts by himself, or that he had to resort to them, to get his work for Colson done?
"So the kid was a parttime spy, digging dirt on others for the head honcho of Liberty's Edge. Not keeping his own hands clean either."
And since said honhco assigned yours truly to join the team...
"What do you want the letter for?
I am very interested in it myself as well. A kid died, and this makes me want to have a little 'friendly chat' with Colson, very much so."
Matching the fiendish look of Ery's eyes, the words 'friendly chat' wore a judging tone of annoyance.
I wonder if anything faction related is of importance here?

![]() |

"Oh, you can have the original. I want a copy. I imagine these like cliff notes my order could use on a rainy day." He offered.

![]() |

Gwen stands up from the zombie with a disgusted look and wipes her befouled knuckles clean on Ery's robes. "What kind of foul man would let a child do such things to himself for intelligence gathering? I have never been a large fan of that man with his pompous clucking about freedom over tyranny and all that. I have heard about as much hypocrisy coming out of Andoran as I do any other country. And this is just one such instance."
She looks at the boy longer and shakes her head. "Magic does such strange things..." She then leaves him to those more inclined to such things and heads to the next door, pressing her ear against it to listen.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26

![]() |

Raising a brow to Gwen, the elf simply sighs, using the magic of 'PRESTO' to clean the debris of undead goo off his robe.
As they head out the next door, Ery slides up to Locke, placing an arm around him.
"You realize that the Calistrian information brokers and 'efficient' manner in which they deal with such hypocrisy would help all of us?"
He squeezes Locke in a side hug.
"Just image! A stinging, perhaps seductive form of quick verification!" He chuckles lightly before sipping off his cup.
"I wont pretend to know what kind of person this... "Colon Madness" is, but I'm sure that information is damning."

![]() |

Locke is surprised at the brotherly attitude coming from Ery.
Eyes narrow behind the mask in a look trying to get a reading.
Sense motive?: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
"Are you trying to win me over to your church?"
"Granted, i am in favor of some form of judgment if his service forced the kid to resort to malpractices, but i'm not material for any religion. Appearance reasons to start with."

![]() |

He's got a small mean streak somewhere in there. Feigning chumminess but seems to actually want to dick this person over in a particularly vengeful way.
Ery smirks, tilting his head back, looking Locke over, likely out of habit.
"Fret not, I wouldn't try. I was offering a more intense alternative then a casual chat."
Ery slides off of Locke and meanders to catch up with Gwen.
"To get a child killed bureaucracy's sake..." He places his arm around one of Gwen's. "Surely That has more lasting consequences then that of a firm slap on the hand?" He asked coldly.

![]() |

"What did you have in mind?
I have to be extra careful, as i was drafted as part of a deal, after an incident involving damage to that man's property, forced compensation and all that."
In response to Ery's words while hugging Gwen,
"Oh i have something in mind, if i can properly get away with it.
Maybe we should discuss this matter after we hear that man's words."

![]() |

Ery gives a light shrug.

StephNyan |

I got some facts wrong in my previous post. Reposting part of the info below, with the changes in bold.
Beneath the boy's preserved body lies a diary. The name written on the first page is Grishan Maldris. Locke knows this to be the name of the deceased younger brother of Colson Maldris, who is Liberty's Edge's faction leader. The diary's filled with incriminating information about the families of other students, and describes how Grishan made regular reports to Eagle Knight Colson Maldris his predecessor. It looks like Grishan engaged in shameful acts to gather the information. If his misdeeds were to come to light, it would result in great shame to his family.
I dropped the faction missions many scenarios ago, so we could focus on the main missions, but I'll post part of the Andoran Liberty's Edge mission below for Locke. Locke, please pretend you received this mission before heading to the Tri-Towers Yard.
Greetings, Scion of Freedom. It is with great shame I confess my needs on this dark eve. The Tri-Towers Yard was home to my younger brother Grishan, a young student who fancied himself a spy. After feigning friendship with other students, Grishan collected incriminating information about their families and made regular reports to my predecessor. My brother engaged in shameful acts and any evidence of such must be expunged. If his misdeeds come to light, it will result not only in my family’s great shame, but also my expulsion from this post.
Go with haste, and preserve the fires of freedom.
Gratefully Yours,
Captain Colson Maldris
--------------------------------------------
And onward!
"No, I have to pick up my daughter from school," Marlinchen says, and follows Gwendallyn to the door.
Gwendallyn opens the door, revealing a corridor that splits off in two directions.

![]() |

That sure makes things different for all of us.
(Poof goes part of our posts :P )
"Grishan Maldris. I know of that guy, he used to be the kid brother of Colson Madris, current head honcho of the Liberty's Edge faction."
Since Ery agreed Locke have the original, i presume Locke's carrying it currently, it not yet been copied.
With the two of them (likely) the only ones interested in it to pay any attention to it...
Sleight of hand: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30
Ery can't get near that. Sorry m8.

![]() |

Well played

![]() |

"Disgusting humans..."
Urbar says as he spits to the side. He moves on to the cross section and peers both ways, listening and looking for people or traps.
perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29

"This school seems to have suffered its share of trouble even before its destruction... and these children served as pawns for their families. I don't understand why normal people would want to educate their children in such institutions. Doing so outside the city is far better," Fiona says as she follows Gwen.

![]() |

Tereze looks up from where she finishes examining the dead boy.
Or, ze children may just be imitating what zey learned from zeir parents. Zere are ze children of nobles after all.

![]() |

"Not a good thing per sé. Aside from etiquette and practical education in private schools, subtle speech and manipulation could be learned from either their mum or dad.
There's the good and the bad everywhere. I never liked the ones acting all high and superior."
"Anyway, we've still a crypt waiting for us to explore."

StephNyan |

Gwendallyn moves over to the door. She hears nothing and opens it, after which Urbar and Ulfa pass her. Urbar stops at the cross section and listens. He doesn't hear s single sound coming from either side.
Urbar follows to corridor to the south and discovers an empty room. [ooc(That is truly empty. No Perception checks required, let's move on.)[/ooc] He moves back to the cross section and takes the corridor that leads west, which leads to another room.
Water drips from the double-vaulted ceiling and trickles down the walls to pool on the floor. Bone shards of a hundred skulls litter the room like shattered seashells. Wide stairs climb to the west. Narrow stairs dive to the north. On the south wall, an open doorway gapes, a carved relief depicting a massive battle filling the archway over the door. The rest of the walls are filled floor to ceiling with nooks that house ancient, but drenched, skeletal remains. In the center of the room sit twelve school children in a circle on the floor. One child seems to be silently telling a story, her arms moving rapidly as she makes scary faces.
Marlinchen moves up behind Urbar and Ulfa and points at the girl who's telling her silent story. "See! Alive! I knew it!"

![]() |

Tereze follows along with Marlinchen to make sure he stays safe.
Hold! All may not be what it seems.
Tereze moves close and casts a spell to help her search.
Casts Detect undead and scan the room

![]() |

Urbar looks very confused around the room, the skeletal remains in sharp contrast with the children. He immediately tries to grab Marlinchen's arm as he tries to walk forward.
Ref: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
"Hold on, until Tereze is finished at least."

![]() |

"Terez's being careful, I get it."
Ery READIES an action. The moment Tereze says the child is undead, he fires.
RTA: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23

Ery narrows his eyes, Readying his finger.

StephNyan |

Tereze doesn't sense the presence of undead in the room ahead; only the presence of twelve harmless spirits. She then suddenly picks up something else: three faint undead auras approach from the corridor north of the room with the spirit children.
Eryzule's eager to start shooting the first undead that'll appear, but he can't see anything over the shoulders and heads of all who stand in front of him.
I'll give you the chance to rearrange yourselves on the map while the undead approach.

![]() |

Ery scoots by his comrades and slips down the other hall giving the others a wink.

![]() |

Harmless Spirits in ze room, but we have zere of ze living dead coming from zere.
She points her finger at the dead, tracking their location.

![]() |

Urbar quickly moves across the room, motioning for Ulfa to follow. He positions himself in front of the southern entrance wth Ulfa on the other side.
"Here we go..."
