Sky Key Solution -- Part of PFS Gameday V

At long last, the Pathfinder Society has reassembled the Numerian device known as the Sky Key. Initial tests suggest it is capable of projecting a location’s past into the present, allowing Society agents to peruse books from destroyed libraries and speak with echoes of long-dead heroes. Now that it has perfected the Sky Key’s controls, the Pathfinder Society is prepared to extract a slice of Absalom’s history and bring it into the present; however, there’s no telling what might be waiting inside—or who in the present might wish to wield the same power.

Written by Crystal Frasier.

When

We'll begin promptly on August 27th. The special runs until October 11th.

About me

I only GM one game at a time, but I give it my all. Expect RP, story and a quick, rewarding pace.

The Recruitment

I’m not necessarily taking the first people to apply. I’m looking for people who will roleplay, push the plot forward, and have fun. This is a timed special. If we’re going to have any chance to roleplay and finish everything we set out to do, we all have to commit going at a fast pace.

My Expectations

  • This will go at a quick pace, with most players averaging 2-3 posts a day.
  • Both the players and the GM will communicate absences, or days that are usually crunch days where they can’t post much. This GM has insanely busy Wednesdays, so does not post much on those days.
  • We all have fun.
  • Players will have a full character sheet in their profile, important information in their headers, and tactics listed in case I have to bot you.

I will accept people quickly. If you check out as a fast poster and a good RP'er, I will let you in immediately. If you're new, have a character in tier, and agree to my expectations, I will give you the benefit of a doubt.

I will try to let all applicants know as quickly as possible so they can find other games if they need to do so.

Pick me! I'll get all my info filled in late as I'm traveling right now. Level 5 sorcerer.

Gerald, you're in. You are both fast and excellent with RP. Done. Do fill out your information in the next day or so though!

Hmm

I am definitely a role-player and love nothing better than a group that encourages it. I have two characters at level 5 if that is the sub-tier we are running? Didn't see it listed. D'oh! Found it in the thread title... Both can crack a trap and get into melee, but Daeris is a bit more martially inclined than Kishara. Kish is first choice, but might pick Daeris if we are light on the heavys.

____

1) Any special rules, boons, or corner cases you need to let me know about:
Unsure about this, will double check when I audit sheets before play.

2) A few sentences about your character and his or her previous adventures, both out of character and in character as your character would describe him or herself. Why are you in the society?
In the case of both characters, they are outcasts of a sort. Kishara is the half-elven daughter of an Elven ambassador and a Chelaxian noblewoman. Her father was murdered and after her own investigation failed, she fled Westcrown to keep from bringing unwanted attention on her mother and joined the Society seeking the proper connections and resources to do something once she can figure out who is truly responsible for her father's death. Her best-friend growing up was a tiefling rogue so she never judges people by appearance and looks for the best in all. She is friendly and flirty and has a soft spot for children.
Daeris is a very different story. Her father took a human mistress and she had a half-elf brother that she despised for his quick growth and magical aptitude, of which Daeris had none. When he was nearly grown, he foolishly insulted his half-sister and though she was twenty years his senior and still a child in form, she struck with murder in her heart and slew him for his insult. Her father intervened quickly and was able to save his son, but he disowned Daeris for the crime. Since then, she has wandered and followed the ways of Ketephys hoping to heal her wounded honor. She still despises human-kind and delights in opportunities when her prejudices against them are proven right and she may take her hatred out with gusto.

3) May I bot you in combat or for an occasional skill check to ensure a fast moving game?
Sure, and I will provide the dice blocks for ease of use, but I doubt I will often miss a turn.

4) What are your go-to combat tactics for botting purposes?
Kish will carry a dagger in her hand and throw it in a surprise round or if she can catch someone flat-footed. Then she will move into combat, using acrobatics to achieve a flank and then two-weapon it out for maximum sneak attacking.
Daeris is a switch-hitter, she will ranged attack using bow until the enemy closes on her and the quickdraw her elven curve blade and go to work.

5) Will you be able to post 2-3 times a day on average, barring occasional days off?
Generally yes, and will let you know if I have something coming up that will delay me.

No day job.

Reesa is a classic goody goody. Every day is great! Every adventure is a better opportunity than the last! Every person she meets is wonderfully interesting!

She has shifted her focus toward summoning after adventuring with clever summoning wizards in the past. Creating creatures to help you out just seems to be the neatest idea ever!

Liberty's Edge

Oh, I am quite tempted! Only, I've played it twice already...

Bluedove -- I've never played with you before, but I really admire the posts you've done elsewhere. Feel free to pick the character of your choice, and complete the application. Also go ahead and roll your day job now or take ten.

JAFO -- You're in my current game, and there's a small chance that there'll be an overlap between the end of Murder's Mark and the start of this Special. I think I want to prioritize my selection for this one for people not currently in one of my games. Is that okay? I could waitlist you, but that hardly seems fair. I'm going to release you to apply to other specials.

GM Zoomba is running a game at this exact tier and is also looking for good players who can post regularly. I'm sure he'd appreciate an excellent player like you!

Lissa -- Oh, I would love to have a game with your Shelynite, but I don't think this one is worth a star replay. I'm sure there'll be other chances for us connect again in another game!

GM Zoomba's Sky Key Solution is Tier 5-6. That's why I linked to it!

Good luck, JAFO!

Silver Crusade RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32

I'm definitely interested in this! The only character I have in tier is a Vigilante 6. I haven't played her since the playtest, so I might need to do some mechanical re-arranging, and I need to get her stats up in the alias. But I'll post an application in the next few days at the latest!

Yarr I spent way too much time typing this all up. I love fast pbps, but I've already played it and I don't have a character who's 5-6.

That said I'm happy to use up one of my star replays. I've written full applications for both my overpowered level 7 and my under-powered level 4.

If either the level problem or the star replay is an issue I'm more than happy to step aside.

I included links to both character's profiles in their spoilers.

Thank you for your consideration.

As part of a deal Trade-Prince Aaqir al'Hakam gave Peran a field commission and Peran has been a Pathfinder since.

Peran sniffs around, uncomfortably close to the listener as his gravely voice squeeks in places "Look, I know we almost let 'cousin' Guaril drown, but the fact is he didn't. We saved him and made this whole thing work out. I don't understand why I owe him money... Somedays Absalom's ways are still confusing" Peran recently played The Paths we Choose.

Nothing too special

2) A few sentences about your character and his or her previous adventures, both out of character and in character as your character would describe him or herself. Why are you in the society?
As a gnome, Cacumattus is always seeking new adventures. His first day in Absolom, he lifted a bright red scarf from the waist a merchant who rudely pushed past him, and has worn it around his shoulders ever since. For a while he ran what was probably the only honest shell game in the city - using his magical skills to pick the pockets of the spectators instead of cheating the players. Eventually he had enough coin to start a tiny gemcutting shop, making a little extra on the side by forging new gems from the offcuts of his work.
Such work doesn't sate his natural need for new experiences, so he applied to join the Pathfinder Society. Since then he has been sent to fight the undead, animated machines, slavers and rock people. He has recovered a fragment of the Sky Key, and was instrumental in defending the Grand Lodge from attack by the Aspis Consortium.

3) May I bot you in combat or for an occasional skill check to ensure a fast moving game?
Please do!

4) What are your go-to combat tactics for botting purposes?
(Feel free to also include this on your character sheet, where you can even have your dice rolls ready to go.)
Snipes if possible. Uses scorching ray generally once per combat, otherwise crossbow, filling in any spare standard actions with ray of frost. If forced near melee range will use his daredevil boots to avoid AoOs and attack with shocking grasp before retreating.

5) Will you be able to post 2-3 times a day on average, barring occasional days off (Cons, Work, Short Vacations, etc?)
Yes, this should be fine.

Liberty's Edge

Balon would like to join in on this quest. I am strong on the roleplay, especially for this character. He is a dhampir Reliquarian Occultist who worships Urgathoa. He is an advocate for the Pallid Princess with those who may consider themselves to be too "good" to accept her blessings.

He casts his Occultist spells as Divine spells.

2) A few sentences about your character and his or her previous adventures, both out of character and in character as your character would describe him or herself. Why are you in the society?
Balon will do anything he can to avoid death, since he has experienced it several times at this point. He wishes to eventually become a fully undead creature and live on forever aspousing the beauty and vision of Urgathoa. He was a cleric of Urgathoa for a time, but I recently used a rebuild boon to make him a Reliquarian instead. He is a polite, helpful person who wishes only for others to see his goddess as he sees her, a savior from the waste of talent that is death. He has been there for several of the Society's most famous missions (he's played in several other specials) and is fully committed to the Society's cause, even over that of his goddess.
"Oh, I would never impose my goddess's blessings on those would may not wish them! If, however, you wish to feel the beautiful pain of one of her blessings.. the term I think most use are 'diseases'.... then please make me aware. It is such a thrill to feel the frailty of the living body though her blessings, and then be brought back from the brink of death to continue her work. The closer to death I come without hurling myself over that precipice, the more I can feel the magic of the gift of the undead!"

3) May I bot you in combat or for an occasional skill check to ensure a fast moving game?
Absolutely!

4) What are your go-to combat tactics for botting purposes?
(Feel free to also include this on your character sheet, where you can even have your dice rolls ready to go.)
Mostly running straight in with his Scythe after buffing up a bit. He once was a ranged-focused caster but found that he was mostly useless in combat, and has taken Urgathoa's blessing on his scythe instead.

5) Will you be able to post 2-3 times a day on average, barring occasional days off (Cons, Work, Short Vacations, etc?)
Yes, though most of the posts will be in the evenings (Eastern standard time). I'm usually able to update my posts once in the morning before I start into work stuff, and then twice to three times in the evening, assuming my 2-year-old lets me have a few moments with my laptop.

Oh, hey! A group of almost new players for me. Cool.

So, Mechapoet, Rob, Cacumattus and Balon / Cartmanbeck -- You're all in.

Pirate Rob, I'm honored that you'll be using a star replay.

Mechapoet, I'm basing this acceptance on your posts for aliases in other games. I still want that full application and I want to see your completed vigilante. Can we see them both by the end of this weekend?

--- GAME FULL, NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICANTS ---

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Looking this over it's a pretty casty group...

Gerald's Sorcerer specializes in battlefield control and conjuration.

Bluedove is bringing either a rogue or a ranger.

Mechapoet, a vigilante -- which tells us nothing, since vigilantes are even more plastic than oracles! Is your vigilante melee-focused, Mechapoet?

Pirate Rob either an evocation Arcanist or an APG Summoner (what sort of eidolon do you have?)

Cacumattus a sorcerer/rogue. Your sheet doesn't say, but I'm assuming fey bloodline due to the entangle spell and woodland stride. Is this correct?

Balon a Reliquarian Occultist.

This will be a very enteraining group no matter what happens, but maybe not the most balanced of ones! Does anyone have thoughts on what they want Bluedove and Pirate Rob to bring in?

Hmm

Silver Crusade

I'd think the ranger would be a better fit as we have a member who has splashed as a rogue. If the ranger is a switch hitter or could front line a bit, I think that would be quite helpful.

As far as Rob goes, I'm fine with whatever he wants to bring in. If the eidolon can meat shield a bit, I could see that being very useful.

I'm still kind of working out how to rebuild her, but at her core she's melee. She focuses on tripping foes with a reach weapon. I may or may not make her a psychometrist as well for some fun gadgets. I'll have a completed profile and application for you this weekend! :3

Sparkle Weave's Eidolon is a skill focused faerie dragon wannabe.

If you're expecting any meat shield out of Orin the Eidolon you'll be sorely disappointed.

Sparkle Weave is a First World Summoner meaning...

Her Eidolon is about half as powerful as normal (fey instead of of outsider, less bab, less hp, smaller HD, no darkvision...)

However Sparkle Weave can still summon while the Eidolon is out.

Of course those summons take 1 round to cast, only last 4 rounds and come off the summon nature's ally list instead of the summon monster list. There are a couple additions to that, most notably the Pugwampi that can make monsters lives pretty miserable if appropriately positioned.

(Re-posting from application spoilers]

Sparkle Weave

Peran

Grand Lodge

Yes, fey bloodline. He'll be stoked to meet Orin.

Sounds like we do have a few options to control/harass enemies (trip, entangle, pit, couple of greases, summons) even if not a huge AC/HP tank, should make things interesting. Might need to be well-stocked with healing pots/wands though.

Grand Lodge

I am in agreement that Daeris should come. She has some leveling to do as I have not played her since level 3. Good news is she will have a new companion to bring along as well. She will need her prozac with everyone slinging spells around her, but at least she won't be in a pack of stinking apes. (Her words, not mine! XD)

Day Job Roll:
Hunting Lodge(Survival): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29

Please do note that Daeris is NON-caster Ranger archetype. I really wish I had a rebuild boon to fix her with, but it costs too much to bother with in PFS play. She can't even activate a wand, so others will have to handle the healing. =/

Balon might be able to serve as the group CLW wand monkey. I don't know if anyone else can trigger CLW wands without using UMD... Is the only group healer the soft-spoken dhampir who worships Urgathoa? Or are y'all stashing wands of Infernal Healing?

Inquiring GMs want to know!

Hmm

Liberty's Edge

Balon has no issue with using cure light wounds wands. He does carry a wand of both cure light and infernal healing at the moment. :)

Silver Crusade

Reesa is +10 to UMD. Anyone know of the top of your head what is required to cast a Spell from a wand?

If Reesa can hit the score fairly reliably, she will probably try it as Balon will scare her quite a bit, I imagine, lol!

You'll have 50-50 odds. It's a UMD 20 to activate wands not on your spell list.

Hmm

By the way, I've opened up gameplay for dot-and-delete, or for pre-game roleplay.

I've also opened up discussion so that you guys can plot, ask me questions, and other good things.

Hmm

Scarab Sages

Wands are DC 20. Sparkle Weave also has a +10 UMD. I've got faith in us.

Grand Lodge

The good news is it doesn't waste a spell from your wand even if you tank the roll. As long as we are out of combat, you'll both be able to flap that thing around until you shake a spell out of it. ^_^

My rogue does it that way... "Ala peanut-butter sandwiches!"

Day Job Roll, if any: none

____

1) Any special rules, boons, or corner cases you need to let me know about:
Nothing special! I just rebuilt this character, so I need to do some last minute bookkeeping on her equipment, as I have some extra gold to spend.

2) A few sentences about your character and his or her previous adventures, both out of character and in character as your character would describe him or herself. Why are you in the society?

Ely is a young Taldan woman from a noble family. Somewhat bored with the lap of luxury, she joined the Pathfinder Society in order to study other cultures. She's currently writing an etiquette guide, covering both current and ancient manners around the Inner Sea region. However, even this diversion doesn't sate her thirst for excitement, and she often dresses up in a fanciful costume and calls herself "The Salty Kraken." The foul-mouthed Salty Kraken isn't bound to stuffy Taldan politics and politesse, free to fight for the weak and vulnerable without worrying about navigating bureaucracy or saying the wrong thing. After some initial newbie missions in Absalom, Ely traveled mostly in western Varisia, vanquishing evil forces in the bizarre Kaer Maga, the backwoods of Magnimar, strange shadow dimensions in Nidal, and even an ancient Tar-Baphon stronghold in the middle of Lake Encarthan.

Ely: "A pleasure to meet you. Now, if you'd be so kind as to tell me, what's the proper way to greet someone here? A person of such high standing as yourself is no doubt a treasure trove of elegance and eloquence! Actually, now that I mention it - while my companions are busy for the moment - have you ever heard of the Sovereign Court?..."

The Salty Kraken: "You've messed with the wrong people, pal! You think I'm scared of you? I've been nearly eaten at least three times! Prepare to eat dirt, CLODS!"

3) May I bot you in combat or for an occasional skill check to ensure a fast moving game?
Sure! I'll get my dice rolls pre-written for you before the game starts.

4) What are your go-to combat tactics for botting purposes?
(Feel free to also include this on your character sheet, where you can even have your dice rolls ready to go.)
Pre-buffs: self Enlarge Person, and adding enhancements to my guisarme with Legacy Weapon if possible
In combat: Standard reach-weapon tactics, trying to draw multiple Attacks of Opportunity with Combat Reflexes and size increases. Try to trip anything with up to four legs.

5) Will you be able to post 2-3 times a day on average, barring occasional days off (Cons, Work, Short Vacations, etc?)
I believe so, although it will probably be closer to 2 times a day.
