Krennel Halfstool |
Calling up from the hold, "Tell her about how warm and cozy it is. Not a cube of ice to be seen.
Diplomacy, AID: 1d20 ⇒ 18
@ Ayla, have to admit, that one had me chuckling.
GM Rinaldo |
"Very well. Leave one or two of your number here with me while you go to Skelg. If he agrees to web me, bring him through the portal to me. I will use the lantern to free the ship and lift his curse, then once that is done, you can take it with you."
-------------
I realized that I forgot to answer the question about looking for Skelg's missing servant ... one of the corpses in the hold is fresher and bears his livery.
I now need to know who is going back to Skelg to present the request, and how you plan to do it.
Ayla Vivindor |
Ayla refuses to leave, instead staying to keep watch on this suspicious woman.
Barbo Beezle |
Barbo turns to the group. "I'm not the most diplomatic. I could go to help, however. "
+2 to aid diplomacy. Who has good diplomacy?
Krennel Halfstool |
"Egg's got a point Lily. You and Geico have the best chance of making that happen. you may want to impress upon him that his very life may depend on it."
Barbo Beezle |
Barbo's face lights up. "You're members of the church! You can officiate! " So proud of himself, he begins walking back to the portal.
Lilianna Thraller |
Lilianna looks at Egg, then Krennel. They have a point, but I don't like leaving friends here in the company of a necromancer...
"I see no other way of lifting the curse, let's see what Skelg has to say," she relents. Staring hard at the woman, she gives each of those who remain a small wooden holy symbol of Sarenrae before departing. "Stay alert, don't get complacent. We will return as quickly as we can. Hold these close," she whispers.
"Geico, Barbo, let's take our leave."
________
Did my sense motive reveal anything about what she said? Lying about her intent would change our response/actions.
GM Rinaldo |
Lilianna, I seem to have completely missed that post -- so sorry!
"Perhaps you could even tell us what you know about it too! Skelg has a very nice home, well provisioned, and fortified," she chimes in, hoping to overwhelm her with more comments. "How exactly did this ship become encased in ice?"
Assume this response happened at the appropriate time in the conversation:
"What I know about the lantern is perhaps negotiable information. I will tell you, though, that the ice began to encase the ship not too long ago. I suspect indiscriminate use of the lantern while it was still magically tied to this ship is the cause."----------
GM Rinaldo |
While several members of the party remain with Natalya, the rest go through the portal to speak with Skelg.
In his bedroom, he still shivers uncontrollably while his last remaining devoted servant sits by the window, trying to cool off. The warrior looks up hopefully as you enter. "Y-y-y-y-you're b-b-bback! D-d-d-d-o you h-h-h-have a c-c-c-c-cure?"
Barbo Beezle |
Barbo steps into the freezing room, pulling his cloak tighter around him. "Well... It's a little complicated. But we found a woman who would be happy to cure you of your curse if you meet one teensy tiny eensy weensy little condition." He stammers, not quite able to deliver the news.
Diplomacy, Aid: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Shoot. Good luck.
Geico All-Hearth |
Geico gets a sort of satisfied smirk. This isn't as easy as he sometimes made it look.
We have a proposal from your former beau, Natalya, she wishes that you be wed to her and fulfill your duties as an Irrisen man and marry her as you should have when you first rescued her. In exchange, she knows how to lift the curse. What do you say?
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28
GM Rinaldo |
"N-n-nataly-y-a Y-y-yagevn-n-na? H-h-hald-d-dyr's wife?"
Skelg seems confused for a moment, then gives a barely visible shrug and says, "I c-c-c-an th-th-ink of w-w-w-worse w-w-ways of g-g-g-getting c-c-cured."
He nods, and that seems the extent of his energy.
----------------
With that, you help him out of bed and down to the vault, where you carry him through the portal and to Natalya. She takes the lantern and places it on its hook at the front of the ship and lights it. The beam of light shines in front of the ship, and you hear the ice begin to crack. After a bit it starts to fall away, and you feel the ship moving forward. A large portal appears, and through it you can make out a harbor.
Skelg ceases shivering, as if freeing the ship also freed him. "Thank you, my friends. I shall remember what you have done for me. Please convey my thanks to Adril Hestram as well."
Natalya puts out the light of the lanter, and hands it to you. "Quickly, then. Back the way you came, unless you wish to come to Irrisen with us."
-----------------
Taking the lantern, you return to Absalom through Skelg's vault. The portal closes up very soon after that. You take the lantern to the Grand Lodge, where Venture-Captain Hestram is pleased to hear that you managed to both cure his friend and recover a fascinating artifact for the Pathfinder Society.
Krennel Halfstool |
"Congratulations to the newlyweds! Irrisen you say? Intriguing as that is, we really must be going back to...wait a minute. Where did Ayla go? Drat! Well Skelg, you may want to double check everything is where you left it. I would love to stay and help, but duty calls. Good luck."
Ayla Vivindor |
Krennel finds Ayla on the other side of the portal, with suspiciously bulging pockets. "Well, let's hope she wasn't a vampire!" she exclaims. "Although I guess a wedding's a cool finale, too. But why didn't she starve? And how come those undead didn't eat her? And how come she didn't freeze to death? Enquiring minds want to know! Ya' know?"
"Whatever the case, this is going to make a great story!"
Egg Fu |
"She no vampyr...she cursed like Skelg...Skelg freeze while she stuck on husband funeral barge...undead no attack her...at least Egg think so...
They be happy now...we go back to island..."
Barbo Beezle |
Barbo shakes his head. "Well that was a most surprising turn of events. But all's well that ends well, I suppose! "
Ayla's day job roll is just stealing stuff isn't it? ;)
Ayla Vivindor |
Hahahaha. You know, they wouldn't let her put that on her application for some reason! The nerve!
Geico All-Hearth |
Geico walks away with a backpack full of new insurance documents, not to mention getting the church of Abadar a percentage of the dowry I am pretty sure that witch is a necromancer of some kind, but that's not really my place to judge now is it. Pity that the good Venture Captain is going to need to find a new sparring partner though.
