"Yeah!" Ayla agrees with Egg. "We're not all going to slip in with a shift change. If they're good enough not to follow me, they're good enough to notice us! Besides, who said we'd kill them? Beating someone unconscious is NOT the same as killing." Ayla shakes her head as if Krennel's silly.

Barbo shakes his head and lifts a glass to his lips. " My eager friends, it is not the warehouse guard who will call the city guard. It is the passerby who watch us beat an innocent man senseless in broad daylight. I agree that we should wait for shift change or the sun to fall. "

Egg gets up from the table. The Alchemist watches Egg leave the tavern. <sigh> How nice it must be to have such a clear view of life.

There is literally nowhere to sneak to ... it is a roughly square building with a single door and several windows that are blocked from the inside. You know there is a boat door on the water side, those generally have to be opened from the inside.

I generally avoid putting a map down too soon, as players often get into combat mode unnecessarily. That said, this is a reasonable time for you to see the tactical view. Map is up.

It is theoretically possible to climb the wall, but not without being seen by passers-by.

That was actually a question for the GM. Whoops. Also, is the wall we are referring to the wall of the building? As in, we would climb the wall and in through a window?

She groans and throws herself around in her chair, moping like a child.

The Midnight Mirror

There is no wall to climb over ... you could conceivable climb up to the roof of the building, but during the day you would be visible.

There are windows along the building, but all are covered from the inside.

There is a loading door on the water side of all of these warehouses. You can observe ships entering and leaving some of the others, but not this one. Given that this warehouse is rented by Bengeirr, it is unlikely there would be deliveries. Most likely he brought one of his own small ships into it when he arrived.

Swimming in is theoretically possible, assuming they haven't place any sort of cover over the water inside the warehouse.

After dark, your chances of being seen drop dramatically, so even if you were to fight the guard, you would be more likely to get in without notice.

I think that answers all of the questions people asked, and dispels misconceptions I was seeing.

Let me know how you want to enter, and at what time.

Barbo sighs. "I'm getting old here. Let's just put it to a vote. I see the following options..."

-Murder-Hobo the guard at night
-Swim under the water during the day
-Climb the roof at night

Any viable options I am missing?

At the end of his list of options, Barbo says, "Personally, I vote we stun the guard and enter by night. That seems to provide a degree of success along with some level of sneakiness."

GM feel free to reinterpret this so it makes sense but...

Once night falls, Barbo pulls up his cloak and wanders around in a zigzag formation. He slowly approaches the warehouse door, attempting to look like yet another drunk bum on the wharf. Once he gets within ten feet he throws off the cloak. " SURPRISE! " With that a fountain of color shoots from his blue fingertips into the guard's eyes.

Will Save DC 17.

Color Spray:

A vivid cone of clashing colors springs forth from your hand, causing creatures to become stunned, perhaps also blinded, and possibly knocking them unconscious. Each creature within the cone is affected according to its HD.

2 HD or less: The creature is unconscious, blinded, and stunned for 2d4 rounds, then blinded and stunned for 1d4 rounds, and then stunned for 1 round. (Only living creatures are knocked unconscious.)

3 or 4 HD: The creature is blinded and stunned for 1d4 rounds, then stunned for 1 round.

5 or more HD: The creature is stunned for 1 round.

Sightless creatures are not affected by color spray.

The Midnight Mirror

OK, then. We're going with the surprise color spray after dark. Because you are near several taverns, it is not pitch black, but it is dark. Unless you have darkvision, you can see enough not to bump into things, but targets have concealment (50% miss chance) until someone brings out a light of some sort.

After a lengthy discussion fueled by several rounds of dubious beer, the group decides on a night assault. As before, a single guard stands outside (though it doesn't seem to be the same one).

With everyone else nearby, Barbo staggers toward the guard then says the incantation that briefly lights up the area with all the colors of the rainbow.
Will Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
The Ulfen is surprised, but manages to close his eyes and avoids the full effect of the spell.

I placed you randomly in the road between the tavern and the warehouse, with Barbo in the lead.

Color spray does not negate the darkness penalty, and activating your wayfinder is a standard action (as is turning it off), so you wouldn't be able to do that and also fire. Which action do you want to take?

Barbo - waited for everyone else, then opened the door
Krennel - has not posted, so is delaying

Barbo unlocks the door using the keys found on the guard, and throws it open. Inside you see a ship docked next to a platform, with two more ulfens who appear to have just gotten into position. A stair leads up to a platform. Lanterns light the room dimly, though from your angle you can't see up onto the platform.

The guards appear to have just used their actions to get into positions with their axes. Everyone is up!

Assuming I can see them from the stairs

Barbo takes action, walking up the stairs. Turning partway up, he lobs a ball of acid on the closest Ulfen.

Acid Splash, touch AC: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1

If I can't see them from the stairs, I'll stop at the bottom.
