Aliva Kulthane |
Will save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Aliva starts to nod off but then snaps out of it.
"What are you doing spirit? Trying to put us to sleep?" Aliva will look around to see if someone fell asleep
Fitliss Phitzinger |
Will Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
"G'nock!' Fitliss yells, bending over slightly to shake his prone companion. "Wake up!"
Ai'sha |
Will Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Ai'sha shakes her head. "W-what!?"
"That was...weird.", she casts detect magic as Irakelesh sugests it.
DM Hunger |
I’m going to say detect magic does not reveal anything due to the nature of the effect. It functions like a spell, but it’s not a spell, magic item, spell-like ability, etc.
As Fitless rushes to G’nock, the pile of sand suddenly swirls upward with a horrid hissing sound to form a spinning column nearly six feet high. The hissing grows louder as millions of grains rub against each other in the whirlwind. Just as suddenly as it started, the sand freezes in place, then contracts and collapses in upon itself, forming a statue – one that looks identical to Ai’sha. With a malicious grin, the sand Ai’sha looks at the real Ai’sha, ”Yes, you are a pretty thing, but I think one of us is enough, don’t you?!”
Sand Ai’sha begins sliding through the sand on the ground toward her real-life twin as a sand scimitar grows out of her hand.
To be clear, Sand Ai’sha is not walking, she is able to move through sand as it if was air, so her feet are not actually leaving the ground. Please remember this in case you are considering any attacks that affect movement, standing/prone, etc.
It is now the player’s turn. Please post your actions and I’ll summarize with your opponent’s action(s). This is a big open room with virtually no obstacles, so no map again. Charging, flanking, etc are all easily achievable if desired.
Ai'sha |
"I disagree, the more of me, the better it gets. You're not me, though!", she focuses arcane energy on her scimitar and slashes.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 1 = 6
Aliva Kulthane |
Aliva a bit shocked at what the creature does, steps up to smash it with her morning star.
"Milani help defend us against this creature."
Morning Star: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 141d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 She would mvoe to flank if possible so another +2 to hit
G'nock |
From the sleep spell: "Slapping or wounding awakens an affected creature ..." I'll assume for the sake of not delaying things that G'nock awakens on being shaken ... lemme know if otherwise..
G'nock stirs lazily, then, startled, scrambles to his feet. As he stoops to retrieve his bow, he does a double-take.
Fitless, what's happening here!?
He nocks his bow, shaking away the cobwebs.
Irakelesh |
Irakelesh's jaw drops. "What? Did you see that?" He points at the sand statue of Ai'sha. "That was amazing." Then he realizes that, amazing or not, the sand statue is moving towards Ai'sha. He moves towards the statue and gets into a position flanking it with Aliva. He brings his morningstar down in what he hopes is a crushing blow. "Ai'sha, no offense, but I really only need to have one of you around at a time." Irakelesh flashes a smile at the pretty bard.
morningstar@statue,flanking: 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 1 + 2 = 15
damage: 1d8 ⇒ 8
Fitliss Phitzinger |
"I'm not entirely certain," the oracle declares cheerfully. "But the statue kind of exploded, and then turned into sand, and then the sand turned into Ai'sha." Fitliss grins and stabs at the Sand'sha.
Longspear: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 101d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
I'm assuming he has flank from where he's at.
DM Hunger |
Ai'sha slashes at the sand version of herself, but her blow is blocked by her foe!
Aliva steps up and flanks with Irakelesh, catching Sand'sha on the shoulder and knocking a small chunk of sand out of her.
G'nock awakens from the magical sleep, scrambles to his feet and retrieves his bow.
Irakelesh brings his morningstart down in a crushing blow, with clumps of what look like wet sand fly across the room to splat against the far wall.
Fitliss darts forward and stabs at Sand'sha, his spear passing clean through to her other side, then pulling back out without any evidence of harm.
Sand'sha screams and brings her scimitar down at Ai'sha, but the blow sails to the side, cracking stone where it impacts the floor.
I'm also using Sand'sha, thanks Fitliss. That's great!
G'nock, all good, appreciate the note of explanation!
1d20 ⇒ 6
Irakelesh |
I assume we're all up again.
Irakelesh grins and points at the splat of wet sand. "That's how it's done!" He swings the morningstar at the pile of sand again. "Let me show you again, in case you missed it the first time!"
morningstar@statue,flanking: 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 1 + 2 = 16
damage: 1d8 ⇒ 1
Ai'sha |
"Well. I guess two Ai'shas would be too much of a good thing for most of you.", she winks, trying a different slash at Sand'sha.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Damage(Arcane Strike): 1d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 3 + 1 = 10
Fitliss Phitzinger |
"It is not that there is too much of you, Ai'sha, it is that this one is extra mean," Fitliss says distractedly, directing a deceptively lazy thrust at the being of sand.
Longspear: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 201d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Aliva Kulthane |
"Irakelesh make sure to hit the right Ai'Sha please." Aliva says with a bit of a smirk before swinging her morning star again.
Morning Star: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 3 + 2 = 241d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Irakelesh |
"Wait! Which one?" He makes a show of looking back and forth between the two. "They look identical to me. How can I tell?" He smiles teasingly at the real Ai'sha.
DM Hunger |
G'nock and Fitliss circle around the Sand'sha, looking for openings, but neither is able to damage the shapeshifter. G'nock's arrow punches through the sand person without leaving any lasting damage, while the gnome's spear does the same. DR
Aliva and Irakelesh manage to position themselves on opposite sides of the monster and proceed to attack in rapid succession. While neither attack does significant damage, they do manage to hurt the creature.
Ai'sha's attack against her double narrowly misses, causing Sand'sha to sneer, "No sister, like this!" Her scimitar slams into Ai'sha, feeling more like a club than a slashing weapon.
1d20 ⇒ 19
1d20 ⇒ 2
1d20 ⇒ 4
1d20 ⇒ 18
1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Ai'sha |
Will Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
How much damage do I take?
Ai'sha shakes her head.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Damage(Arcane Strike): 1d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 1 = 6
And misses again.
Fitliss Phitzinger |
"Are you okay Ai'sha?!" Fitliss cries, seeing his friend hit hard. "You should be ashamed of yourself!" he declares, turning to berate Sand'sha even as he steps in to sling a punch at her shifting form. "Why are you being so mean! We didn't do anything to you, wait, did we?" he asks, suddenly losing the head of steam he was building.
Gauntlet: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 221d2 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Irakelesh |
"Ah. I see it now. This one made of sand. Right here in front of me." Irakelesh swings at the sand once again but this time his aim is off.
morningstar@statue,flanking: 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 1 + 2 = 13
G'nock |
Dropping his bow, G'nock draws his morningstar and swings at the sand-creature. "Smaller weapons don't effect the creature; use something heavy!"
morningstar: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
"Shift around this!"
DM Hunger |
Ai'sha tries to respond to the monster's attack but her vision remains blurry from fighting off the wave of lethargy. Her attack slams into the sand floor, missing her nemesis.
Fitless stabs Sand'sha through the leg, and though his strike is true, the creature's wound closes up immediately after he pulls his spear back! DR
Irakelesh mistimes his swing, and his morningstar sails through the air a moment after Sand'sha moves her head out of harm's way.
G'nock, ignored by Sand'sha until now, deftly closes with the shapeshifter and brings his morningstar down into the middle of her back, knocking a pile of sand to the ground.
Avila seizes the opening and hits Sand'sha across the chest, sending another chunk of sand across the room.
Sand'sha snarls and she screams at Ai'sha. As she does, her face melts and shifts around to form several tentacles surrounding a large open maw lined with twisted teeth. The tentacles swing around and one hits Ai'sha in the shoulder 7 damage, Will save DC 14 as before
The creature appears to be struggling to keep its shape as sand seeps down its "legs" then gets pulled back up as it maintains its form. It is clear you have seriously hurt the monster.
Your turn - a good round might see you defeating this monster!
1d20 ⇒ 10
1d8 ⇒ 2
1d20 ⇒ 19
1d6 ⇒ 4
1d20 ⇒ 4
Ai'sha |
Will: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Ai'sha is too prideful to let some imitation put her to sleep, but her wounds look serious, she strikes again, but is more focused on the defense this time.
Attack(Combat Expertise): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Damage(Arcane Strike): 1d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 1 = 8
Aliva Kulthane |
"This sand creature is resilient to us, maybe if we add some water it will just become a large pile of mud and then we can just walk away."
Aliva smashes again with her morning star.
Morning Star: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 101d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Fitliss Phitzinger |
I attacked with my gauntlet, that would have been bludgeoning instead of piercing if it matters.
"Hey, good idea Aliva!" Fitliss says, pulling out a waterskin and pouring it on Sand'sha. Even if it provokes an attack of opportunity.
Touch Attack (if applicable): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
I just realized I hadn't been adding my size bonus to attacks, fixed.
Irakelesh |
"Ai'sha. I'm getting bored fighting with your twin." Irakelesh smacks at the sand again with his morningstar.
morningstar@sand,flanking: 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 1 + 2 = 23
crit confirm: 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 1 + 2 = 19
damage: 1d8 ⇒ 2
crit damage: 1d8 ⇒ 3
G'nock |
"At least you're trying, Irakelesh ... do try to hit the right one, though!"
morningstar: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
" ... this one!
DM Hunger |
Avila and Ai'sha attack the creature, but it's tentacles manage to block their blows.
Fitliss drenches the monster with water, drawing a horrible shriek from it as its body begins to melt as the sand runs down its body.
Seizing the opening, G'nock scores a direct hit against Sand'sha int eh chest, caving it in and causing the monster to double over.
Irakelesh's swing is already in motion, and it makes a satisfying crunch as he literally knocks Sand'sha's head off her body and into the stone floor. The body remains upright for several seconds, but all at once, the sand falls to the floor. The monster is dead!
Thanks for the catch, Fitliss. Would not have mattered in this case, but I appreciate the correction. This thing had DR 10.
What does the group want to do now?
G'nock |
G'nock examines each of the statues in turn,"They did not do what I expected; I had assumed they were there to pen the monster, but they were still all the while."
Fitliss Phitzinger |
"Did she ever actually move outside of them?" Fitliss asks thoughtfully, giving the small statues a more thorough inspection.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Ai'sha |
"If she told us to move those I think we should stay away from them..."
Ai'sha will spend a few charges of her wand to recover.
Wand of CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Wand of CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
DM Hunger |
You meander around the room, looking for more enemies, and inspecting the small statues. Once you get close, you see that the statues are not stone at all, but rather intricately molded sand. They have no magical auras, and appear to be rather easy to knock down.
While moving around the room, several of you notice strange bumps and hard objects beneath the surface of the sand. You find the following treasure:
a suit of scale mail
a light crossbow
five cold iron crossbow bolts
10 regular crossbow bolts
a gold holy symbol of Sarenrae (worth 25 gp)
3 pp
37 gp
That's all for this room. There is a stairway and bathing pool to the SW and SE respectively. Due east appears to be a kitchen, while a set of double doors can be seen to the west.
Fitliss Phitzinger |
"Well that was fun!" Fitliss exclaims once it becomes clear there is no more to dig out of the sand. "I wonder what Sand'sha was? Was she even the same thing as that statue? Oooh, maybe she was inside the talking statue, would that mean it is dead? Was it even alive?" the gnome doesn't seem to consider his own questions, wandering off to inspect the architecture while the others decide where to go next.
Ai'sha |
Would very much like the holy symbol
"I guess we should take a look around before going south.", Ai'sha will walk up to the bathing pool and examine it.
G'nock |
G'nock makes his way past the remaining statues toward the kitchen. "Any more of you interested in giving us 'help'?", he asks. I suspect the secret to these smaller statues was lost with the monster."
Irakelesh |
"Not much interesting here. Let's grab the gold and then leave the other gear here. We can pick it up on the way out." Irakelesh shuffles through the sand hoping to find something else interesting. He sneaks up behind Ai'sha as she's looking in the pool. Catching Fitliss's eye he mimes the act of pushing Ai'sha into the water with a big grin on his face and a look that asks, "Should I?".
Stealth: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (5) - 2 = 3 Did Ai'sha notice me?
Irakelesh |
Irakelesh's face changes to a sheepish grin. "I thought it was funny." He shrugs at Fitliss then turns back to Ai'sha. "Did you find anything interesting with the pool?"
DM Hunger |
A large tiled pool sits in the center of this chamber, surrounded by sloping tiled floors. A few steps descend into the basin, which has accumulated a deep layer of sand on its bottom. Faded murals on the walls depict scenes of life along a river, with recurring themes of running water and aquatic life running through the artwork. In the northeast corner, a tarnished bronze spigot juts from the wall just above head level. Archways lead north and west, and a stone door stands in the eastern wall.
Aliva, add +1 to your AC for now
-----
G'nock, apologies, you are walking into the chapel, not the kitchen. The kitchen is due north of the chapel.
Hieroglyphs and images of fantastic beings cover the walls of this small room. A small stone shrine, dusty and thoroughly defaced, stands against the eastern wall.
Irakelesh |
"But what is this spigot for? We could try turning it on to see what comes out." Irakelesh reaches for the bronze handle. He doesn't turn it yet but he looks to the others to find out their opinion.
