Irakelesh |
Irakelesh watches the others' attacks hit the sand creature but do little damage. "Ok. We're going to have to try something different here." He puts his shortbow away and pulls out his morningstar. Hefting it in his hands he says, "This will probably put a dent in that pile of sand." Irakelesh adjust his feet to take a firmer stand and readies himself for if the sand creature approaches him. He also reaches for one of his prepared extracts and gulps it down. A shimmer of energy flashes across his body for a split second as the power of a Shield spell covers his body.
Pendrak |
The sandling recoils in pain as the Fitliss removes a hand from his spear, steps forward, and sends a gauntleted fist crunching into the its face.
All of that damage went through, bringing the total to 9 damage taken by the sandling.
He puts his shortbow away and pulls out his morningstar.
It is a move action to sheathe or draw a weapon, so you're probably better off dropping the shortbow (a free action) if you also want to drink the extract.
Aliva is up. Laroisael has a readied action (I think, never got an answer) to attack when the creature comes closer, a condition which will not go off this round.
Pendrak |
We are just waiting for Aliva and the battlefield is unlikely to change drastically after she takes her action. I'm going to be busy later this afternoon and evening (running the third session of my face-to-face Strange Aeons game) and may not get to post again until tomorrow, so I am going to go ahead and roll for the sandling's attack. If Aliva posts before 5:30 PM this evening she can go ahead and take her turn, otherwise I guess I will have her draw her battle aspergillium and move SW, S, S, so that she is next to Irakelesh on the "second line" so to speak.
Regardless of Aliva's action, the sandling will be attacking Fitliss. No one likes getting punched in the face by a gnome.
The sandling snaps its maw at Fitliss's gaunleted hand.
Melee attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Bite damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Fitliss is able to snatch his hand away just in time.
The map is still current.
At 5:30 PM EST round 3 of combat begins. As I said, if Aliva posts before then, terrific, otherwise the map will look like the following:
Regardless, at the start of round 3 everyone will make a perception check:
Irakelesh Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
A'isha Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 5
Aliva Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Fitliss Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 6
Selassie Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Laroisael Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
? Stealth check: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
And nobody notices anything. At 5:30 PM, or after Aliva posts, round 3 begins and anyone can go (including Aliva again) before it will be the sandling's turn again.
Aliva Kulthane |
I shot and missed
Aliva will step in beside of Fits, setting her bow down and unhooking her battle Aspergillium. She will swing it at the Sandling.
Battle Aspergillium: 1d20 ⇒ 151d6 ⇒ 5
Aliva looks a little surprised at herself for connecting so solidly with the creature. "I have never really been good with this thing."
Irakelesh |
Irakelesh takes a five foot steps to step up the sand monster and then swings his morningstar at the creature.
morningstar: 1d20 ⇒ 7
The weapon sails harmlessly over the creature's head.
Irakelesh's movement was based on the alternative map. 1 step NW
Ai'sha |
"It seems to be working!", she says, noticing how Fitliss and Aliva's attacks do real damage to the creature.
Catching her breath, Ai'sha waits for a chance to advance and try to distract the sand monster in order to aid someone else.
Aid Another: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
I believe the frontline is full so she'll hold untill someone steps back and will then aid whoever is attacking
Fitliss Phitzinger |
Fitliss grins. "A good fight is always fun!" he declares as he punches the creature again.
Gauntlet: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 151d2 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Pendrak |
Aliva and Fitliss land solid blows on the sandling, and it appears to be in bad shape.
The sandling is at 0 hit points and is staggered.
Laroisael fires off a shot with her bow.
Critical confirmation: 1d20 ⇒ 15
Shortbow Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Critical damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (6, 6) + 4 = 16
The sandling gives a final roar and lunges towards Fitliss, but Laroisael fires a perfect shot into the creature's open mouth. It collapses into a pile of motionless sand, defeated.
Why do I never crit when I play my own characters...
However, just then, noise from behind alerts the party to new enemies.
Several cat-sized vermin, tan-colored creatures that look like ten-legged spiders, likely drawn by the noise of the brief fight with the sandling, come skittering into the room and move to attack Selassie, A'isha, and Laroisael. Two similar looking but larger creatures, the size of a large dog, also move through the doorway into the room. Oversized jaws grind together slowly beneath beady eyes.
Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Laroisael, Selassie and A'isha can make attacks of opportunity, because the tiny creatures have a reach of 0 and therefore have to enter your squares to attack. Assuming they survive the AoOs they will attack. The adults took their turns moving into the room.
Attack on Laroisael: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Bite damage on Laroisael: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
Attack on Selassie: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Bite damage on Selassie: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5
Attack on A'isha: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Bite damage on A'isha: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3
None of the solifugids are able to bite their intended prey.
You guys can all take your turns at your leisure (and your attacks of opportunity if applicable at the same time). Technically the initiative order would now be A'isha, Adult Solifugids, Young solifugids, Aliva, Fitliss, Laroisael, Irakelesh, Selassie, but to simplify this round I just had the adults go before A'isha. So the initiative, to simplify, will just go: Bad Guys, You guys. The adults are represented on the map by X and Y, and the young solifugids are represented by 1, 2, and 3.
Irakelesh |
"What are those?" Irakelesh exclaims loudly when the spidery things appear. "I've never heard of such things." One of the small spiders jumps into Laroisael and Irakelesh steps towards her. Move: SE, E Irakelesh, still wielding his morningstar, takes a swing at the small spider.
morningstar: 1d20 ⇒ 15
damage: 1d8 ⇒ 3 If hit
Aliva Kulthane |
"I just had to move up and smack this sand beast, now look I am without my bow."
Aliva will hold her turn till she has space to move to get her bow.
Can I move though Fits square since he is a small creature?"
Ai'sha |
AoO: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Ai'sha contains a scream of disgust and tries her best to kill the strange spiders before they can reach her, delivering a low diagonal ascending cut.
If she misses/fails to kill it
She then takes a step back with her foward leg, spinning with the momentum of her swing and finishing the rotation with a second attack aimed at the same spider. (Five-foot step back+attack)
If she hits and kills the thing
After killing the smaller arachnid (?), she advances towards the left-side of the giant solifugid, taking one instant to probe for a weakness before delivering a shoulder-powered slash from above. (Move one square to the east and attack the X solifugid)
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Selassie Radwan |
Selassie swings her mace at the little creature attacking her.
attack roll: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
damage roll: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
She then takes another swing at it.
attack roll: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
damage roll: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Fitliss Phitzinger |
I can't try and attack the little ones, my friends are in the way! Let's go for the bigger ones.
Fitliss moves through Irekelesh's square to engage the larger creatures.
Punching X: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 81d2 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
GM Pendrak |
"I just had to move up and smack this sand beast, now look I am without my bow."
Aliva will hold her turn till she has space to move to get her bow.
Can I move though Fits square since he is a small creature?"
You can always move at normal speed through the squares occupied by friendlies. As it stands you would provoke an attack from creature X when you move to where your bow is, but if you wait for monster #2 to chase A'isha you can move N, NE, E and use your other action to pick up the bow.
GM Pendrak |
Irakelesh moves forward and squeezes between the statue of Pharasma and the eastern wall. He swings his morningstar but is unable to make contact, and likely wouldn't have even if he wasn't worrying about the statue and the wall restricting his backswing.
I considered calling fighting in the square fighting cramped (-4 attack, -4 AC), but I didn't want to penalize you so badly especially when you are likely about to get full attacked in a second by one of the adults. I will just call it cover, so enemies you attack while squeezed in beside one of those statues get a +4 AC (and vice-versa, so you get cover when Y attacks).
A'isha swings wildly as the creature skitters close, missing, but she steps back and is able to slash the creature across the body, causing coppery, blue blood to spray across the northern wall.
A'isha misses on the attack of opportunity, but hits on her turn (almost getting the kill).
Another solifugid tries to scamper up Selassie's leg. She shakes it off and brings down her mace, missing, but her second attack is more well-aimed, smashing into the creature with a loud CRUNCH.
As with A'isha, Selassie misses the AoO and hits on her round.
Fitliss moves forward and throws a haymaker at one of the adult giant solifugids, but he misses badly.
I believe I got you in the right place on the map.
Laroisael throws aside her bow and draws her shortsword, stepping back and swinging the blade to attack the creature crawling at her.
I forgot that she didn't have a melee weapon out, so no AoO. She drops her bow as a free action, draws her sword as a move action, 5 foot steps, and attacks as a standard. She will use a 3rd round of archaeologist's luck again on her attack with the shortsword.
Shortsword damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Laroisael impales the solifugid on her shortsword like a shish-kebab, ending its meager existence.
Another kill for Laroisael (who appears to mostly be a GMPC at this point).
One of the young wind scorpions tries to bite and claw at Selassie.
Claw Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Claw Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Bite Damage: 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3
Claw Damage: 1d2 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
Claw Damage: 1d2 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
The creature bites and claws at her leg, and bloody wounds appear on Selassies's calf, bleeding profusely.
Selassie takes 4 damage total. I should note that I made a mistake in the previous round on the damage for the young ones, it should be 1d4 for the bite, not 1d6 as in the case of the adults (but they didn't hit anybody).
The other nymphal instar skitters after A'isha.
It provokes an attack of opportunity again (and the other one was in the previous round, so you can take another even if you don't have Combat Reflexes).
Bite Damage: 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
A'isha deftly dodges its maw.
The adults attack Fitliss and Irakelesh, myriad eyes filled with malice.
Claw Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Claw Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Bite Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Claw Damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Claw Damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Fitliss is barely recovered from throwing his punch when one of the adults turns and rips into him with jaw and claw. The gnome falls unconscious, his life-blood pouring from a pair of gaping wounds in the chest and shoulder onto the dusty stone floor.
Fitliss is hit 3 times, taking a total of 10 damage, rendering him unconscious. I believe you are at -4 HP currently, and will die when you reach -15. On your turn, which is forthcoming, you need to make a Fortitude DC 14 to stabilize, or you will take another point of damage. If someone heals you before, you don't need to make the check.
Claw Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Claw Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Bite Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Claw Damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Claw Damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Irakelesh is far luckier, and none of the creature's attacks are effective, thanks in part to the shimmering force-shield of magic protecting him, and in part to the statue of the the Lady of Graves.
Aliva moves across the room, picks up her bow, and prepares to attack next round.
That brings up you guys. A'isha gets an AoO in addition to her regular turn. The AC is 14 for the adults, and 16 for the youths. The two remaining youths are at 5/9 (Selassie's and 1/9 (A'isha's) hit points. Also, I feel bad about what happened to Fitliss, if it makes anyone feel any better.
Ai'sha |
If only i remembered to do arcane strike =x
Ai'sha keeps movings, making it as hard as she can for the spiders to touch her. As the critter aproaches, she once again takes a swing trying to keep it away.
AoO: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
As her blade misses, she takes a moment to read the battlefield.
"Fitliss!", she disengages from the small spider, dashing across the room to fight the bigger solifugids. As she moves, her left hand touches the blade of the scimitar, giving it a faint glow before she strikes at the monster with a horizontal defensive cut.
I'm moving to the square south of Fitliss (move) + Arcane Strike (swift) + Attack with Combat Expertise (standard)
Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Damage: 1d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 1 = 7
Aliva Kulthane |
Aliva can step back 5 feet (west) since the small ones cannot do an AOO, she can heal
Aliva will grasp her holy Symbol, "Milani please bless me with the divine power to protect my little friend.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Irakelesh |
"Fitless!" Irakelesh blurts out in horror as he sees the giant spiders tear into the gnome. "Ok you foul beasts. Your time is up!" Irakelesh looks intently at the spider in front of him and then takes a swing at it.
morningstar,inspiration: 1d20 + 1d6 ⇒ (19) + (6) = 25
damage: 1d8 ⇒ 7
Used 2 inspiration points to add to the attack roll -- looks like I didn't need it... Sadly 19 isn't a crit for a morning star. Hmm. Now that I look at the rules, I can decide to use inspiration _after_ the roll. Mr. GM, do you agree? If so, then since my attack roll was already 19, I will not use the inspiration. Please let me know.
GM Pendrak |

Yes, that is correct. You hit, and didn't expend any inspiration. Monster Y is at 6/13 hit points.
Selassie Radwan |
Selassie steps clear of the little creature and swings her mace at it again hoping to finish it off stepping back so the little pest will have to take another AoO to attack again then attacking it.
attack roll: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
damage roll: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
GM Pendrak |
Selassie steps back and clobbers the young solifugid once more.
It is now at 3/9 HP. I am going to go ahead for Laroisael again as well. Also I just noticed that she has Lingering Performance for her feat, which actually does not work with Archaeologist's Luck. If she returns we will discuss picking another feat.
Laroisael critical confirmation: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Short sword damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Critical damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Laroisael, bolstered by her slaying the previous round, stabs at the creature that Selassie has been fighting, and skewers yet another of the creatures.
Another critical, wow, 11 damage total. That puts Fitliss up.
Fitliss Phitzinger |
At 7 because of Fey Foundling
Blinking back to consciousness, Fitliss surveys the situation. Uh oh, he thinks, looking up at the spider-thingy standing over him. I don't think I'm getting up without getting hit.
Sorry to rely on someone else, but I'm on my phone and at an event. Fitliss's priorities: get up>don't get hit>Punch X. If someone could do that for me, it would be much appreciated.
Punch, if applicable: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 121d2 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Pendrak |
Fitliss stands, and the creatures both lash at him as he does.
Bite damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Melee attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Bite damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Neither creature is able to hit him. Fitliss takes a weak swing against the nearest camel spider.
The creatures do not seem to view him as much of threat since taking him down previously, and direct their primary attacks at Irakelesh and A'isha.
Bite damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Melee attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Claw damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Melee attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Claw damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Bite damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Melee attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Claw damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Melee attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Claw damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
One of the solifugids manages to slash A'isha with a claw, but none of the other creatures attacks manage to connect with Irakelesh.
The remaining young solifugid moves and attacks Selassie.
Selassie can take an AoO.
Bite damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
The tiny vermin is unable to get a hold on Selassie.
A'isha takes 3 damage, but now that it is your guys turn the damage transfers to Fitliss because of the life-link. You guys are up again.
Ai'sha |
"Seems i'll have to take you insects seriously.", she mutters, recoiling from another attack. Ai'sha makes a spinning dance move that ends in another slash, her scimitar still glowing with magic.
(Battle Dance(Move)+Arcane Strike(Swift)+Attack the Y with C.Expertise(Standard)
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Confirmation: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Damage: 1d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 1 = 9
GM Pendrak |
A'isha's scimitar slash brings down the first of the adult solifugids, greenish blood pouring out as its legs curl up under it.
A'isha gets the kill. You're on the home stretch.
Aliva moves over to attack, but the creature skitters aside as she swings her aspergillium.
Irakelesh |
I think that Y is gone.
"Great job, Ai'sha!" Irakelesh says when the giant camel spider in front of her collapses. "Now we just need to poke this other one and we'll be through with this horrendous creatures."
Irakelesh steps forward (N) and takes a swing at the remaining adult.
morningstar: 1d20 ⇒ 18

Selassie Radwan |
Selassie takes a swing at the creature as it attempts to attack her AoO: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
AoO damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
but misses
She steps over the little beast to stand near Aliva and takes another swing at it.
attack roll: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
GM Pendrak |
Irakelesh moves over the corpse of one of the solifugids and brings down his morningstar onto the other creature with a sickening squishing noise.
Irakelesh deals 4 damage to the unharmed (I believe that was the first time it was hit) solifugid. It is at 9/13 hit points.
Selassie is unable to land a blow on the creature. Laroisael tries to stab the same one as Selassie moves aside, and once again she is able to finish off the disgusting creature.
Short Sword damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Laroisael hits and kills the remaining youth.
Fitliss Phitzinger |
Fitliss grunts as he siphons off Ai'sha's injuries. Let's finish this, before I go down again. Fitliss shifts directly away from the creature and stabs at it with his spear.
Longspear: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 161d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Pendrak |
Fitliss lands a blow with his longspear, just as an arrow from Aliva hits the creature among its multitudinous eyes. The creature goes down, and Pharasma's Seekers breath a collective sigh of relief.
Victory at last! You've completed your first combat. The obvious exits are east, or west into the room you started to go into. Side note: I may not be able to post again until later tomorrow evening (other than possibly once more tonight). Also, like I said I will be using ad hoc leveling, so don't worry about experience.
Fitliss Phitzinger |
Fitliss lays a hand glowing with The Lady of The Sword's light on himself as he inspects the fallen creatures.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Aliva Kulthane |
"Fits are you ok? I am glad that Milani gave me the strength to protect you."
Aliva will inspect the doors to the West, then half way to the east the spot where the Sandling came out to attack.
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15 east door
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 stairs
Irakelesh |
"That finishes that!" Irakelesh says as the last of the gigantic spiders falls. "And those are ugly! Is anyone else hurt? We should make sure that everyone gets patched up before we move on. We don't know what else we'll run into."
Irakelesh takes a couple strides to where he dropped his bow on the ground and picks it up. "A bow like this is a great weapon from a distance but sometimes you just have to be up and personal!"
We came from the north, right? And is this the room with the giant mirror?
GM Pendrak |
We came from the north, right? And is this the room with the giant mirror?
Yes, you came from the north and this fight pretty much all took place in the "Chamber of Reflection." You guys opened the west doors to the broken stairs, from which the sandling emerged. The doors to the east are slightly ajar, and that is where the solifugids came from. I think Aliva got her directions reversed in her post, but I'm pretty sure the below is what she wanted to do. Long story short she doesn't find much of note, though you would have to go into the eastern chamber to truly search the room.
Aliva walks down the broken stairs and investigates the room which served as a lair for the sandling. To the south there are a number of tiny burrows or tunnels that pock-mark the wall, too small for even Fitliss to comfortably navigate, and further to the west stand closed double-doors engraved with a golden scarab. Returning to the reflection chamber, Aliva goes to investigate the eastern doors, from which emerged the strange arachnid creatures. She steps over the corpses of the creatures and peers into the room through the slightly open doors.
She can see that pillars line the wall of a rectangular chamber, interspersed with stone jackal heads extending from the walls. A stone altar, covered in a layer of dust, sits at the eastern end of the room.
Fitliss Phitzinger |
"Everyone seems fine to me, thanks Selassie. How about we check out that Eastern room before moving downward," Fitliss says, taking his own advice as he wanders in and glances around.
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 8
GM Pendrak |
This appears to be the preparation chamber, where Akhentepi's body was embalmed (along with those of his cats and slaves who were buried in the tomb with him) and where the final mummification rites and interment rituals were performed. From here, the bodies must have been carried to their respective resting places before the tomb was sealed. The altar is dedicated to the ancient Osirian god Anubis, patron of embalmers and guardian of tombs, whom you remember from earlier in the tomb, and the funerary masks on the walls depict him. The masks also seem to function as torch holders, as in the antechamber. The tracks present in the dust are more numerous in this room, and it appears that the solifugids made their nest under the altar. There is nothing else of particular note in the room.
Irakelesh |
"This is all so interesting." Irakelesh closely examines each of the masks and the stone alter. "An embalming room." He runs his fingers over the surface of the alter. "And to think, at one point Akhentepi himself was laying here on this alter. Magnificent!"
After the investigation Irakelesh walks back out to the reflection room. "So let's see what's down there." He points west. "Aliva, you said there were more doors? Did you check if they were locked?"
Aliva Kulthane |
Aliva turns from the altar as Irakelesh speaks to her, "I had not yet, I didn't go down the stairs all the way, just to where the Sandling came out. I can run there now to see, if someone else wants to join me, I don't feel like venturing here alone."
Aliva will head to the top of the stairs to wait for someone else, then proceed down the stairs.
Fitliss Phitzinger |
"Yep, looks like time to head down the stairs!" Fitliss declares cheerfully, moving to head down with Aliva.
Ai'sha |
Ai'sha cleans her blade with a small square of fabric, but doesn't sheathe it. She takes her position ahead of the group again.
"Y-you didn't had to do that wound-sharing thing, you know?", she says to Fitliss, part thankful and part embarassed.
Fitliss Phitzinger |
"All's well that ends well!" Fitliss declares cheerfully, proceeding down the steps now that most of the party is there. "Are you coming Irakelesh?!" he calls over his shoulder as he descends.
GM Pendrak |
Fitliss and A'isha open the decorated doors to the west to reveal another chamber. A tapestry hangs from a frame against the south wall of this large chamber; it depicts an otherworldly vista where the souls of the dead, shepherded by strange beings, enter an ethereal river ambling through space toward a landscape dominated by an impossibly tall spire. Columns sculpted in the shape of Osirian warriors wielding khopheshes stand in all four corners of the room. The floor is tiled in a white spiral pattern on a black background, and this spiral pattern is repeated on the stone double doors to the north, east, and west.
A'isha Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 3
Aliva Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Fitliss Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 1
Selassie Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
No one sees anything else of particular note.
Selassie and others immediately recognize the spiral on the floor tiles and the doors as the holy symbol of Pharasma, and it is also clear to her that the tapestry depicts the descent of the soul from the world of the living to that of the dead. The great spire depicted must be Pharasma's Spire, atop which sits the Boneyard, a sort of purgatory where souls are judged before being sent on to their appropriate afterlives. This room must be what was known as the "Hall of the Soul's Crossing," a common feature in Osirian tombs.
A cursory inspection of the north and west doors reveals that both are locked. They are heavy stone doors like the rest in this tomb.
As the group enters the chamber, Laroisael stops at the eastern doors at the head of the stairs.
"I...I'm sorry," she says quietly, her quavering voice echoing down the passage, her face pale in the torchlight, "I, I don't think I can do this. I am so sorry. I have to go," with that, she turns and runs north, presumably up and out of the dungeon. It would seem that she is suffering from some form of post-traumatic stress, and is unable to continue.
And then there were 5. Obvious exits are double doors to the north and west, both pairs of which are locked.

Post-traumatic stress?! She killed everything she attacked, or at least came close! ;)
"I can't get through those things," Fitliss declares after one look at the doors, before wandering into the room to investigate it.
