Ai'sha
"I think i hate bugs more than i hate creepy dolls, at this point!", Ai'sha goes for another swing.
Attack(Arcane Strike): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 1 = 6
Fitliss Phitzinger
"I could feed him, but if you don't like bugs Ai'sha, I can find a different pet," Fitliss sighs, stabbing at 2 one of the beetles.
Longspear: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 161d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
GM Pendrak
Aliva and Ai'sha gracefully dispatch the two remaining beetles, and Fitliss stabs in for good measure, finishing the job.
There is another door at the end of the corridor.
Another battle well-fought.
GM Pendrak
Fitliss pushes open the door. It seems to have been a secret door, at least if you were coming from the other side; on this side it was very clearly a door.
The group enters a short hallway that narrows sharply to the west, descending to a set of stairs that abruptly end in a rock wall. The room seems unfinished.
Those who studies the documents from the room where you fought the doll (I know Selassie did at the inn, can't remember who else) realizes what this room might have been. The documents mentioned that Akhentepi remarried later in life, and this was likely supposed to be the addition to his tomb for his second wife. However, Akhentepi predeceased his second, much younger wife, and apparently her part of the tomb was never finished.
Heading back to the stairs to the west of the false burial chamber seems to be the only real avenue you haven't gone down.
Aliva Kulthane
Aliva will look around but there isn't much to see, "Looks like we are going back the way we came then."
She she goes back by she will move the dead beetles off to the side with her foot.
"Think the dead we have left behind will attack more unwanted creatures?"
Irakelesh
"Yeah, this is just a dead end. I'm pretty sure it is that unfinished part of the tomb. So yep, let's go back. Those stairs near that nasty sarcophagus are the only way forward." Irakelesh stretches and stifles a yawn.
"But you know, I've had a lot of adventure so far today. I wouldn't mind if we headed back to the Tooth and got some sleep. We can come back here tomorrow full of energy. I mean, this place isn't going anywhere."
Irakelesh looks around at the group seeking agreement.
Fitliss Phitzinger
"If you guys want to back I will go too, but I would prefer to press on," Fitliss says, glancing around at the others.
G'nock
|
I feel prepared to continue, though I would not mind a moment to eat, responds G'nock, sniffing at the least damaged of the beetles.
What of the users of magic, though. Have their powers not been taxed by these trials?
Irakelesh
"Well my curiosity is starting to kick in. Maybe we should go check out that other area. Just at least enough to see what it is. If it leads to a much larger area then I think I'll want to come back tomorrow. But if it's just a small room, it would be nice to know."
Ai'sha
"Come on, Irakelesh, you really think you'd be able to rest with your mind wondering what was left in the tomb? Lets finish this!", Ai'sha is ready for more adventure.
GM Pendrak
Pharasma's Seekers make their way back to the stairs leading downward. They investigate the doors, and finding them unlocked and seemingly untrapped, they open them, revealing another chamber.
This room holds several neatly arrayed chests, boxes, and urns. The dust of centuries cover every surface. There does not seem to be another exit at first glance.
Akhentepi's grave goods were placed in this chamber, in keeping with the Osirian cultural belief that his soul would have access to those items in the Boneyard while he awaited judgement, a judgement which surely came long ago, if ever.
The Seekers investigate the chamber. None of the chests in the room are locked, as the items within them were the most personal to Akhentepi, and his soul might have wanted immediate access to them. Most of the goods in the chests, such as once-fine clothing and sealed jars of food, no longer have any value after the passage of centuries, but among the spoiled and ruined grave goods are several salvageable items of value, including two vials of silversheen, a masterwork longbow, 10 cold iron arrows, a gold scarab clasp, an onyx and silver holy symbol of Pharasma, a silver hand mirror, and a wax-sealed clay urn of nard.
Irakelesh Appraise: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Aliva Appraise: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Fitliss Appraise: 1d20 ⇒ 7
Selassie Appraise: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
G'nock Appraise: 1d20 ⇒ 6
Irakelesh is convinced that the silver hand mirror is worth a fortune, as it could be a very early example of a mirror. G'nock believes that a strange looking rock that he found on the ground in the corner is the most valuable thing in the room. Fitliss thinks that the nard smells gross, that it is wortheless, and and that the group should dispose of it. In general no one can get an idea of what this treasure is worth, if anything, other than the combat gear.
With nowhere else to turn, the Seekers search the room more thoroughly.
Irakelesh Perception: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 5 + 2 = 20

Selassie Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
G'nock Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
At almost the same time, Irakelesh and Aliva notice another secret door to the east. However, Aliva also notices that the secret door is trapped with some magical spell that will affect anyone who comes within ten feet of the door if it is not disabled.
Aliva Kulthane
"Everyone stop"
Aliva will move towards the edge of the trapped area and pull out some chalk, drawing a line around where it is trapped.
"Don't cross over here, G'Nock your the trap expert, how do we get by this?"
Fitliss Phitzinger
"Ooh, I can help, let's see what this does," Fitliss says enthusiastically, casting a spell from a safe distance.
Detect Magic (Spellcraft): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
GM Pendrak
It would actually be Knowledge (arcana) to identify the auras, but you can confirm the presence of a magical trap. G'nock can still try to disable it.
Fitliss Phitzinger
Oops, my bad. I was sure the whole thing used spellcraft. I don't have knowledge arcana, so that's as far as I get.
Oh wait, I get to know how strong it is, that doesn't require a check.
GM Pendrak
The aura of magic that Fitliss detects is faint, but there is certainly the presence of magic.
G'nock moves to the edge of the zone of the magical alarm, kneels, and go to work disabling the trap.
Disable Device: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
I takes him about a minute, but he scratches away a few runes in just the right places, disabling both the alarm and the spell it might have triggered. The erstwhile-secret door does not appear to be locked.
The door leads to a small hallway. As you pass through, a few droplets of water drip down onto your heads, and you realize you are probably under the aqueduct that fed the trap in the false burial chamber. The hall leads to another door, which is also unlocked and untrapped. Opening it, you reveal one last room.
A sarcophagus covered in gold leaf rests on a raised stone platform in the center of this chamber. The casket's cover is carved in the likeness of an adult man with his arms crossed over his chest, and covered in a thick coat of dust. Two ornate chests sit beyond the dais in the northeast and southeast corners, and between them stand two large funerary urns. There is no other exit, besides the way the group entered.
This must be the burial chamber of Akhentepi.
Irakelesh Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

Selassie Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
G'nock Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
The group begins to move into the room, but Fitliss and Selassie hear something stir from behind the dais.

A serpentine creature springs out from behind the dais. It resembles a small, metallic cobra. Its body is made of overlapping iron plates, and its eyes are pinpoints of red light.
It slithers over towards Fitliss.
Once again, since we are dealing with a construct, no one has any idea what they are fighting. Fitliss and Selassie get surprise rounds, and Aliva can take her turn.
Ai'sha
Man, with so many monsters with hardness in this tomb i can see a lot of party compositions having a terrible time in this adventure.
Ai'sha walks up to the serpentine creature and strikes with her scimitar.
Attak(Arcane Strike): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 1 = 7
Fitliss Phitzinger
Thanks Aliva.
"Ooh, what is that thing?" Fitliss ponders aloud, taking a heavy thrust at the approaching construct almost as an afterthought, and even punching it when it comes inside the reach of his spear.
Longspear AoO: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 141d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Gauntlet: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 171d2 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Knowledge History: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
It occurred to me that Fitliss might have heard of how tombs were protected, so I figured I'd try.
GM Pendrak
Actually, sorry to say, Fit doesn't get an AoO because he had not yet acted when the construct moved on the surprise round. Didn't hit anyway. Fitliss does remember that the Ancient Osiriani were obsessed with protecting their tombs, so nothing you've seen is out of order, but you still don't know anything about constructs.
Fitliss manages to punch the iron cobra in the back of the hood as it slithers into position, but he doesn't seem to hurt it.
Aliva moves into position, but she finds herself a little cramped because of the chest. It'll be treated as partial cover for the iron cobra, so it will get a +2 AC vs. your attacks.
Ai'sha can't act quite yet, but I'll use that for the action if you are able to get into position. You may need to climb onto the sarcophagus, unless folk move out of the way, but you can do so with a DC 12 Acrobatics check (to jump up onto it), or a DC 10 climb check (to just climb up), either of which you have the movement speed to do. You can't take a 10, since you are distracted, but it should be pretty easy. You will also get the benefit of high ground, which grants a +1 to attack. We will give Selassie until morning to take her action, or I'll do something for her.
GM Pendrak
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe Selassie ever used the bless spell she prepared. Better late than never, she will cast that now. Also Aliva's round should have been a normal round, so when you take your second turn here you can use two standards.
Selassie begins chanting a hymnal to Pharasma, and Pharasma's Seekers are filled with a feeling of great courage and boldness to overcome their enemy.
+1 morale bonus on attack rolls and on saving throws against fear.
The metallic serpent springs, and bites at Fitliss in a lightning fast motion.
Bite attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18Bite damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
It bites Fitliss in the calf, and pain surges up his entire leg.
Fitliss is hit for 6 damage and needs to make a Fortitude save.

Irakelesh sprints back the way they came to the room filled with all kinds of equipment. He quickly locates and grabs the longbow and cold iron arrows.
I assume that will take my whole turn. Or maybe even more than 1 turn.
Aliva Kulthane
I thought it would be a full round to get around everyone.
Aliva will swing at the snake with her Morning Star, trying to push the beast bast.
"Milani help me destroy this creation so as to protect those in my trust."
Swift action to Fervor for Divine Favor

Irakelesh runs back toward the Chamber of Grave Goods.
From where you are it will take a double move to get to the bow and arrows, and another double move to get back to where you were.
Aliva swings her morningstar and smashes into the cobra, denting it. Fitliss shrugs off the poison, and hits it again with a mailed fist, but once more doesn't seem to do any damage.
Eh, Aliva can get there in one move action from where you were. You can still take your round 2 action.

GM Pendrak
Aliva gets in another wallop, but this time doesn't seem to hurt it.
I'm not sure where you intend for G'nock to move to. Unless Fitliss 5-ft. steps there is nowhere for you to stand, save for atop the sarcophagus (where you will get a +1 to hit for high ground), or behind it (where the serpent will get a +4 cover bonus to AC). If you'd like to do the former, roll Acrobatics or Climb. I'll assume you do the latter, unless you correct me. I am going to have Ai'sha go ahead and try an Acrobatics check to hop up. I believe Selassie has another Channel Energy left (might be her last but I think she only used 4), so she will do that.
Ai'sha attempts to leap up onto the ornate sarcophagus to swarm the iron cobra.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
She nearly stumbles, but manages to get atop the casket. She slashes the serpentine construct with her scimitar, leaving a deep gash in its metal skin.
Selassie calls out to Pharasma for healing, channeling positive energy to mend the wounds of the Seekers.
Channel Energy: 1d6 ⇒ 2
The cobra turns and lunges at Aliva.
Bite Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21Bite Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

G'nock switches weapons; in the crowded alcove his Morningstar seems the wrong choice. He drops it, draws his bow, and fires:
Longbow: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 1 = 7
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
GM Pendrak
Fitliss stabs the metallic snake, but none of the damage penetrates its hard body. The others are unable to touch it.
As G'nock fires off a shot, the cobra sees a chance to strike at him.
G'nock provokes an AoO for firing a ranged weapon.
Bite Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17Bite Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
The snake smacks into one of the jars that G'nock is standing behind, and can't get to him.
Selassie moves up to fill the gap opened by Fitliss, and brings her light mace to bear.
Mace attack: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 2 + 1 = 10Mace damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

The cobra makes yet another lunge, biting at Aliva again.
Bite Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14Bite Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
