G'nock
|
G'nock eyes the sarcophagus, fairly certain he's scored a direct hit on the horror.
1d6 ⇒ 1
But he's somewhat disappointed with the result. Perhaps the alchemical wonder had passed its expiration date. He hopes that the flames will continue to burn the creature going forward.
GM Pendrak
Fitliss manages to hit the creature in a vulnerable joint below the knee, and does a bit of damage. Aliva misses her shot.
Ai'sha delivers a perfectly placed blow, that takes off the better part of the sarcophagus's stoic face, but it stays standing through either sheer will (unlikely) or powerful magic (bingo).
She then steps backwards, just as G'nock launches a vial of alchemist's fire, which engulfs the creature in flames, though a bit of the fiery liquid sets Irakelesh's pant leg on fire.
Fitliss gets through 1 point of damage. Ai'sha lands a solid critical. I forgot about the splash damage on the alchemist's fire, so I'm allowing that Ai'sha manages her 5 ft. step before it hits, but Irakelesh takes 1 damage. G'nock, go ahead and roll another 1d6, because on its turn the construct takes another round of damage unless it spends a full round action to make a DC 15 Reflex save to put the fires out, which it isn't intelligent enough to do (let alone "stopping, dropping, and rolling" for the +2 bonus). So after Irakelesh and Selassie, the creature is up and will take that damage. Although I think Irakelesh might not be acting this round, to prevent an AoO.
Selassie 4/10 HP, 26 rds. of holding breath (soon to be 25)
Sarcophagus 12/36 HP
Aliva 10/10 HP
Ai'sha 8/10 HP
Fitliss 8/10 HP
G'nock 4/13 HP
Irakelesh 1/10 HP
Irakelesh
If I'm following correctly, Irakelesh is at 1 hp. So yeah, no action. :-)
Irakelesh is barely holding onto consciousness but he is aware enough to see that the mad sarcophagus is still standing and threatening him. He pulls back his arms and makes his tall frame as small as possible hoping to avoid sustaining another attack.
Total defence.
GM Pendrak
Selassie makes another desperate attempt to break free. She is beginning to feel a bit warm in there, and wishes she knew what was happening on the outside. The rest of the group can heard another loud THUNK from inside the construct, indicating that their friend is still alive and fighting.
Light mace: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
The construct, now engulfed in flames, lumbers after Ai'sha, trying to once more to smash the life out of her.
Slam: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Alchemist's fire: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Again, through skill or fortune, Ai'sha deftly dodges the attacks.
Selassie hits but doesn't get through hardness. I think her last post was Saturday, so hopefully she will rejoin us soon.
I went ahead and rolled for G'nocks second round of fire damage. By the way, you guys are free to look at the GM Notes section, honestly, although you never know that info in character. Let me know if you ever notice anything that seems off, especially with your own HP.
Also, I just had a thought, and I don't know why I didn't think of it before. Although you don't know it in character, healing doesn't affect constructs. Selassie has a lot of channel energy uses left. She does not need to speak (and therefore stop holding her breath) to do it. That said, I'm going to say that for this coming turn she gets a sudden insight from Pharasma, who seems to want her Seekers to survive, and decides to channel energy. Hopefully Selassie won't be upset I took a couple of turns for her, but that will be her action in the upcoming round, and you guys can go ahead and adjust your health accordingly, as this will happen before the creature's turn.
Channel Energy: 1d6 ⇒ 1
And you guys are up once more, round 8.
Selassie 5/10 HP, 26 rds. of holding breath (soon to be 25)
Sarcophagus 6/36 HP
Aliva 10/10 HP
Ai'sha 9/10 HP
Fitliss 9/10 HP
G'nock 5/13 HP
Irakelesh 2/10 HP
Aliva Kulthane
Aliva will move West 1 step then north 2, drawing her bow back and hoping to hit with some force this time.
Short Bow+PBS+elevation?: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 4 + 1 = 241d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
G'nock
|
G'nock draws back his bow, exhales and pauses for a moment, the lets fly:
1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 4 + 1 = 17
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Fitliss Phitzinger
"Great shot G'nock!" Fitliss cries, seeing the arrow hit home as he reaches down to heal Irakelesh. "There you go!" he declares cheerfully when he finishes. "You should stop getting hit so hard."
3rd cast today (healed myself once after arrows, again after G'nock took a hit, and now), so I still have one more in me. And I just remembered that I should be two higher from Fey Foundling when I healed myself after G'nock got hit.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Ai'sha
Last turn of battle dance, make it count, Ai'sha :x
"Let. Her. GO!", after dodging two attacks once again, Ai'sha passes into an agressive stance. Feeling the warm of the dawnflower guiding her blade even in this dark tomb, she attacks once again.
Attack(Arcane Strike, Battle Dance): 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 + 2 = 23
CRIT!?: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 + 2 = 21
Damage: 1d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 1 = 7
Critical: 1d6 + 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 1 + 2 = 8
I guess Ai'sha is on fire right now, literally
Selassie Radwan
I apologize for being spacy and I forgot that healing doesn't affect constructs also, channel energy is a good idea and I would have done it sooner if I'd remembered
Selassie suddenly realizes in a flash of insight that constructs like this are not affected by positive energy and sliently calls on healing energy to bathe the company
channel healing: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Irakelesh
Surges of healing energy flow into Irakelesh's body bringing him back to full health. "Now I feel better!" he says while he stands up. He nods to Fitliss, "Thanks for the healing and I will try to avoid getting hit." He picks up his morningstar and waves it in a threatening manner at the sarcophagus. "Ok you beast, or rather, box, I think we've had enough of you."
I think it is move action to stand and move action to pick up weapon. Also, with Selassie's channel I'm back to full HP.
GM Pendrak
Aliva hits it again, but the arrow just bounces off.
G'nock takes a careful shot, and hits the creature right where its sternum would be, had it bones. The chest-plate of the sarcophagus cracks open, and a rush of air goes into it, allowing Selassie to breathe once more.
Then Ai'sha, seeming to be on a roll, strikes the creature hard, smashing most of the back off the already heavily damaged construct in an epic blow.
It collapses to one side, and becomes nothing but a normal sarcophagus once more, its lid opening.
Selassie stands up, dusts herself off, and after another channeling of positive energies, everyone's wounds disappear with the blessings of Iomedae and Pharasma.
Pharasma's Seekers feel a deep sense of accomplishment, almost as if the experience of this encounter had served as a crucible which had strengthened their mettle and resolve to go forward.
You did it! You beat the walking casket! Nice job, for real. You also gained a level. Direct all questions to the Discussion thread.
GM Pendrak
As the dust settles, the group surveys the room and ponders its next options. As they do, the water on the floor slowly drains away, and after a few minutes there is a click. It sounds like the doors to the south could be opened again, and the ones to the north could be closed. G'nock also discovered secret doors to the east before the search was put on hold due to traps and travails.
It appears that this was a false burial chamber, a trap designed to kill would be tomb-robbers. There isn't anything of value, with the sole exception of the sarcophagus itself, which is leafed in gold in certain places.
You could spend 1/2 an hour scraping the gold flakes, and get about 75 gp worth.
Beyond the north doors there is a small chamber with a large grate, obviously the source of the water for the trap. The only obvious exit is east through the secret doors, but you could continue to search the room.
Take your time leveling up, but I'm ready when you are.
Irakelesh
Once the water drains from the room Irakelesh plops down on the floor to rest. "That was quite the battle. And Ai'sha, I have to admit, reluctantly, of course, that was some extraordinary fighting. I don't know that I've seen that temper of your flare so much for a long time. Oh, Selassie, what was it like inside that thing? I mean, not many people get to be enclosed in a coffin like that. Did it smell bad? I'm just curious, you know." He pauses to take a drink of water and gaze around the room. His eyes searching for anything interesting or out of the ordinary.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Aliva Kulthane
Aliva will move over to Selassie, checking on the woman to make sure she is ok. Helping her to stand up as well.
"Not quite what I had thought this tomb delve would be like. Are you up for continuing Selassie?"
Aliva will turn her head to G'nock, "Did you not say you found a set of hidden doors?" Can you open them?"
G'nock
|
G'nock is amazed; they were only just standing, at least three of them almost (or momentarily) killed ... and Aliva was ready to go into yet another, doubtless similarly trapped room.
"Yes,", he replies, making no further move.
Fitliss Phitzinger
"I think I can do another link now," Fitliss says, reaching over to touch Irakelesh on the arm. "If you are going to get hit so much, I can at least do this much."
Irakelesh
He nods and grins at Ai'sha, "Not letting it go to your head or anything, right?" He starts to unfold his long legs and gets ready to stand up. When Fitliss makes his link he replies. "Well, I'll take you up on your offer Mister Phitzinger. And don't worry, I won't squander this by not getting hit."
Irakelesh stands and raises his arms in a long stretch. "So if we're going to do this, let's do this. You know, a closed door is only closed so that you can open it. Aliva, isn't that a saying of Milani? Or maybe I'm just making that up."
He walks over to Selassie and puts his arm around her. "So really, did it smell bad inside that sarcophagus?"
GM Pendrak
I think we're just waiting on G'nock and Selassie to level.
Ai'sha
"Leave your creepy questions for when we're back at the Tooth and Hookah, Irakelesh, don't you see she isn't well right now!? Besides we might find another sarcophagus and then you can try it for yourself."
G'nock
|
Done leveling-up/fiddling with skills, etc.
G'nock checks the secret doors for traps:
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
"I don't see anything to prevent us from opening these; is everyone ready?"
Selassie Radwan
Everything should be updated
Selassie shrugs Irakelesh's arm off her shoulder,
"I'd rather not talk about that right now, thank you."
GM Pendrak
Fitliss wedges the point of his spear in the small crack between the secret doors, and G'nock is gradually able to get a grip on them and open them.
The doors are open to reveal a small room filled with human-shaped bundles wrapped in linen. Each wears small medallion marked with Pharasma's spiral around its neck. There seem to be a dozen.
Irakelesh Knowledge (history) with inspiration: 1d20 + 1d6 + 10 ⇒ (13) + (3) + 10 = 26
Fitliss Knowledge (history): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Selassie Knowledge (history): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Irakelesh has a macabre revelation. These were probably the slaves that built this tomb, killed and entombed after its completion to ensure they could never speak of its secrets.
There doesn't seem to be much else in this small room, and nothing of value except perhaps the 12 wooden holy symbols of Pharasma.
Pharasma's seekers again seem faced with a dead end, though they could continue searching the room.
You guys can either try searching parts of this room again, or even take a 20. Otherwise there are also the locked western doors back in the Hall of the Soul's Crossing (room A12, the one with the cool Pharasma tapestry).
Irakelesh
"Yep. These are the slaves." Irakelesh says as he waves towards the wrapped mummies. "In reward for all their hard work building the tombs, the slaves were always killed and buried in the tomb. That prevented them from giving away the tomb's secrets. Or that was the theory." Irakelesh continues to search through the room.
Taking 20 on Perception. Perception = 25, 27 for ancient osiriani secret doors
GM Pendrak
Irakelesh continues to walks around the walls of the room, searching for another similar set of doors. He finds it, directly opposite the other set of secret doors, on the western wall. The secret doors are opened, and they reveal another set of doors.
Irakelesh Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

Selassie Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
G'nock Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
The doors do not seem to be trapped or locked, so they too are opened. There is a small hallway, and then a set of stairs, off to your right, descends to the north. In the torchlight you can see another set of doors at the foot of the stairs.
Irakelesh Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
A'isha Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

Selassie Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
G'nock Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
However, Selassie also notices a secret door leading to the south.
Fitliss Phitzinger
"Wow, these guys really liked their secret doors," Fitliss observes brightly. "I think we should check them out before we go further down."
Aliva Kulthane
Aliva will strap the Scarab shield onto her arm and draw her Morning star, She will move up towards the southern doors that Irakelesh found and motion for someone to open them.
Readied action to attack of something comes lunging out at them.
GM Pendrak
Aliva lies in wait, while G'nock and Fitliss open the door to reveal a rough earthen passage, which in contrast to the rest of the tomb is not lined with masonry. At various points along the tunnel, sections of the walls have crumbled, as if something had dug small tunnels in the walls that subsequently collapsed. The tunnel heads south, and then seems to turn east after 30 feet.
If you guys elect to go into the tunnel, give me a marching order since it is single file.
Ai'sha
"This seems odd...Maybie this corridor had a trap and triggering it did this?", Ai'sha aproaches the tunnel carefully, waiting for G'Nock to inspect it.
I'd say G'Nock, Aliva, Ai'sha, Fitliss, Selassie, Irakelesh.
GM Pendrak
The group moves down the unfinished tunnel, G'nock leading the way.

There is another door at the end of the corridor, which can be seen as G'nock turns the corner, but at the same time there comes a rumbling from certain parts of the wall of the chamber, as if something were burrowing towards the group.
Suddenly a number of beetles come bursting out of the sandy walls, their glowing carapaces further lighting the corridor.
Four of the creatures get surprise rounds, as they beat everybody's perception.
3 Bite attack (Selassie): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 213 Bite damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
5 Bite attack (Fitliss): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 65 Bite damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
6 Bite attack (Ai'sha): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 126 Bite damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
One of the beetles bites into Selassie's hand, drawing a bead of blood.
Looks like nobody has Knowledge (nature) still, so no one knows what these things are. There are six total that burst out from various places in the wall or floor. These housecat-sized beetles are a dull brown color brightened by two glowing green-yellow spots on their carapace. G'nock technically acts prior to the other two beetles getting an attack, but I am going to roll for them anyway so that once he goes we can keep moving. If he happens to kill beetle 1, then its attack obviously won't go off (and it is against his normal AC anyway, since he wouldn't be flat-footed by the time it goes.
4 Bite attack (Aliva): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 114 Bite damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
So yeah, if G'nock kills beetle 1 this round, it doesn't get it attack off. Otherwise G'nock is will take 3 damage, which will then immediately heal and transfer to Fitliss when the gnome acts. Also, in order to try to better keep tracks of rounds of combat I'm going to steal some things I've picked up from other games.

Ai'sha brings down a powerful slash at one of the insectoids, and Fitliss skewers one of the beetles with his longspear, but both bugs are barely still standing. Selassie goes for 3.
