All 5th Edition Game Discussion and Character Generation can go here.

okay, so I'm currently running an Shadowrun 5th edition campaign set in Des Moines, so I am somewhat familiar with the rules (except for the matrix stuff, which I don't wanna learn tbh). With that being said, I would be willing to run any of the following archetypes: PhysAd, Face, Mystic Adept/Mage, or Bioware-based Street Sam. Fixer, did you have an idea for what city, if any, you want to be based out of?

I'm definitely going technomancer

I am actually in the process of looking through the information I have for a good city. Though for now assume it will be Seattle.

And the Matrix Stuff seems easier in 5th than in 4th...

Good deal. It will be good to get back to basics. how would you like to do character sheets? just create an alias and post in there, or send you character sheets?

Both Preferably. That way I have an easy way to access your characters.

I'm thinking of a 'Gunfighter' type, that is highly skilled with Armorer (Firearms). Street Handle would be Gunsmith, and he'd be an ex-Lone Star Detective forced to take a break after a major incident forced him to have at least a Cyberleg, and possible an arm and eye on the same side...

Handguns would be his specialty at using, but about any firearm, he could use as well as fix.

Thoughts?

Nice. Though remember Cybereyes typically come in pairs. Though one might be more obvious. Maybe his Lone Star era Cybereye had its covering damage and is obvious?

Also Spare Clips need to be labeled with what gun they are for.

Troll phys adept, does just what his call sign advertises. High bod, mystic armor, healing factor. No fear baby.

Think I'm going race, magic, attributes, skills, Nuyen. But playing with it right now.

Oh yeah, can everyone at least post their Priority Choices up.

Say something like:

Priority A: Skills(46/10)
Priority B: Attributes(20)
Priority C: Resources(140,000)
Priority D: Metatype(Human[3])
Priority E: Magic/Resonance(-)

Though feel free to put them in your Alias.

Okay.

Magic using demolitions expert.

Human, full-suspected mage, explosives, chemistry, and demolitions know-how.

Probably ex-IRA, on the lam from international police interests.

You know I am playing a Demolitions expert but haven't actually needed to use 5th Editions Explosives rules...

And after looking them up... Yikes.

So, Mister Fixer, how do you feel about exceptional attribute (magic)?

male human

I will go with my idea of the doc wagon paramedic. I had him mostly built from a few weeks back when I was trying out the character creation with the new edition.

FYI I've tried running a shadowrun pbp with "some" success before. There are some logistical considerations. The three worlds (astral, matrix, physical) can be a little tough to juggle (even in a face to face game), so if I were running it I'd try to downplay at least one of the three worlds. Personally, I'd prefer to focus more on the physical world and downplay magic.

The game I ran on play by post focused mainly on investigation and rp with some physical combat and the odd bit of hacking. I found that worked fairly well because it didn't require a huge amount of dice rolling and players could contribute pretty easily without getting bogged down by mechanics. Personally, although I like the Shadowrun system, it's hardly a rules lite type of system, and I don't think it's especially well suited to php. That being said, I still think it's doable if we focus more on the rp and less on the crunchy stuff.

Exceptional Attribute(Magic) is fine. Though remember that it costs Special Attribute Points to raise magic.

My group has found an interesting way of doing it, Though that is on another site that is slightly better suited for Shadowrun, but it should work on here okay.

I have found that the Astral World even IRL is the easiest to downplay as well. Especially when you only use it for scouting or as Adepts.

Mostly I run mine as RP with the occasional rolling for Stealth and such. Most of the Crunchy Stuff at least for these initial 3 Runs will be Hacking, Stealth, and maybe a little combat.

Also I am guessing your character will be a member of DocWagon/CrashCart/etc's HTR Squads? Or maybe even a former Member.

My character is mostly going to be using spells to manipulate the world, with astral stuff for scouting, esp type stuff.

Spirits will be less of a focus for him.

Should have a rough work up avail tomorrow, jotting stuff down and working off tablet right now.

I mostly work off a Gz'One Commando Phone. I envy you right now...

And that is another thing that confuses me are Spirits and Sprites...

Ha. I used to have a ZoNe back when.

I mostly use a Samsung Galaxy S3 and my Nook Tablet nowadays.

I work evenings, so this is all from my desk nowadays.

Thanks for listing my priorities for me. :)

Priority A: Skills(46/10)
Priority B: Attributes(20)
Priority C: Resources(140,000)
Priority D: Metatype(Human[3])
Priority E: Magic/Resonance(-)

Will try to put something more together in the morning. :)

Went as I said. Race Magic Attribute Skill Resources.

On a more interesting note, what do you think of a phys adept with a toxic spirit mentor?(regular spirit mentor mechanics just happens to be toxic.)

Those are the Priorities I am using for quite a few of the earlier Prime Runners as well.

@B.C.: Can you give me more details? Like is it something from a 4E book or what?

The toxic path is one of hatred and madness. Those who follow can be gleefully insane, nihilistic, Eco-terrorists, or even full on Darwinists. I would be running a reaper, someone who believes that humanity as a whole is a pestilence on mother earth and they are by and large in need of wiping out. Would be running a reskinned bear as a hatred spirit.

Seems interesting. Feel free to run with it.

Cool. Figure at the beginning of game he has just come under the sway of his new mentor. We will see how play pushes him.

Probably further into its grasp...

Most likely. Have the crunch done. Still have to get all the dice pools in place and the limits. Fluff is going to be pretty easy, he is young poor and angry. Fresh from his first run he purchased himself a spiffy armored coat. His handle comes from an officer asking him what his proffesion was when he gave business as reason for traveling past the checkpoint, he flipantly said he caught bullets and it stuck as his call sign. He is a little slow but has an odd ability to pick up a smattering of languages with ease. He has caught the attention of a toxic spirit that has begun to teach him its own take on life. I also have to put in contact but that should be pretty easy.

Be sure to list out your skills Ranks as well as Dice Pools.

Already have skill ranks listed. Pretty sure I have Everything set right.

Having looked it over, it looks like 5th edition went back closer to 3rd than 4th.

ya, it definitely has that feel to it (which I like TBH).

I do like the more simplified skill system, and the nuyen reduction, 3rd was insane about how much cash it took to do anything.

I also like how taking more than the minimum priority in race does stuff too...

so for my character, I was thinking that the reason that his resources were so low is that he just paid for lionization. short form background: He was born in 1975 and has survived to the modern day. became a somewhat famous shadowrunner who managed to retire then was running out of money so decided to do the only thing he really knows how: Shadowrunning. hence, he ponied up the money and became 20 something again. Leaving his old name behind, he has taken a new one and moved to a new city (I'm basing him loosely off a npc in my home game) and taken a new id to start from scratch.

Pretty groovy, Vrog.

I'm torn right now on how much to drop on explosives. If we have a team vehicle, and/or some crash space, that would help my decision making.

Btw, are we an established group? Or specialists brought in for the run?

HP/SP: 28 (28) / 36 (36) | EAC/KAC: 18/18 | Init: +3 | Fort: +7; Ref: +8; Will: +4 | Resolve: 2 (5) | Perception: +6 Force Ward: 16 (16); regen 4 hp/min | Elemental Overflow (+2 to Dex)

while I don't have him completely built yet, this is the avatar I will be using for my character. just posting here as a placeholder, and will get him statted up probably tomorrow (forgot to copy the book to my phone, and trying to dl it at work from my dropbox didn't work...)

Everyone is looking good so far.

@Psionic: That is up to you. Some might be a group with others brought in for the job/introduced to you.

Fixer,
I sent you a PM, apparently you didn't get the response to the last one I sent agreeing to your request?

Probably going to change his name, but here's the general basics of my mage.

Probably gonna move some skills around now that we have a real face with us.

I got it. Just wanted to make sure you were fine with doing that.

Ok, clarified some stuff. :)

So, Fixer has asked me to play a bit part in the 5th edition game as well. Basically as a way to funnel disinform.. er, plot twi.. er to help the characters along if they get stuck. Yeah, that's the ticket. Kind of a mix of independent plot device and general helpful chaos maker. :)

So I'll wait until all the full on full bore players are in and characters created and then mock up something that covers any holes that might be in there, and put in the skills necessary to act as a low level fixer/corp liaison/client watchdog.

I forgot all about Starting Nuyen!

You guys get Max Starting Nuyen.

male human

Is our team going to be linked by a common Fixer or anything? Will it be assumed that we've worked together in the past or are we being assembled together as a team for the first time by either a fixer or Mr. J?

Oh no, I got max poor as heck. :)

Sczarni

Male Cuddly L'il Fuzzy Hamster Psion (Telepath) 20

I think its easiest if we all come in as a team. At least loosely organized, if not a full on uniforms and badges squad.

Considering this is supposed to be Bullet Catchers second run I was hoping to have him be introduces to the group as a little extra muscle.
