The smell is much stronger as you approach the door and they seem cooler to the touch than the surrounding area. After a few seconds you notice the mechanics of a trap, which seem slack now. Possibly this was related to the trap you disarmed previously, though you also can tell that opening these doors could put the group in danger again.
There is still plenty of time to kill while Harmini is patching up Wynrey.
Hey guys, I've found a new way to kill us all. There is a trap on these doors behind which is the stale water smell (I suspect a huge unwashed water elemental).
I'll try to disarm the trap when we have Wynrey fully patched up.
Has anyone poked around in the remains of the killer box to see if there is anything interesting there?
The trap is already disarmed. Sorry if that was confusing.
Wynrey:
Wynrey is still being attended to by Harmini so searching is difficult, but from where you are you can tell that the sarcophagus doesn't contain anything valuable, though the gold leaf on it could be scraped off with some work.
As you look for the locks you notice the doors seem to have a slight bend to them as if some great pressure is on them. The water it seems is held back by the doors. While the trap was disarmed, you can still release this danger by opening the door.
Chui determines the doors are safe, revealing another set of doors. Again, examining them and determining they are safe as well. Once these doors are open it becomes clear these short halls connect back up with the main section the party left when they found the hidden corridor.
Moving things along... Nothing but a corridor really.
Let's check out this door at the bottom of the stairs. Once we find what's there or determine there is nothing there for us, we can try to open double doors with water behind them.
Since the stairs go down, any water we release will drain down them. That's why I'd like to look there before attempting the double doors in the room of the bitey box.
[b]I'm ok with this plan Chui it seems sound. Though I don't appreciate being called a kitten my savage kitty cat...I've heard you talk about "kittens"[B]
elendra pulls out the wand of detect undead just to be safe.
My deepest apologies Miss Elendra and to you other ladies. I'm afraid the excitement of battle lead me to make a most ungallant remark and for that I am sincerely sorry
Chui quickly moves down the stairs in order to get between Wynrey and the doors.
PRRR, Wynrey, I'm afraid that I've not yet checked for traps or enemies beyond these doors.
Would you mind if I do that first before we go forward? That way,
we'll have a better idea about the possibility of animated objects seeing you as breakfast.
Also, perhaps it would make sense for me to go through first in a stealthy manner, OK?
Oh yeah, go for it, sorry for jumping ahead, I thought you covered this already. I might still be filling up with the new blood Harmini gave me, hopefully I'll keep most of it this time.
Chui carefully (take 20) checks the double doors for traps and evidence of anything beyond, including scent. Then, if the doors are unlocked, he carefully (take 10) opens them and slips through.
This room holds several neatly arrayed chests, boxes, and urns. The dust of centuries covers every surface. The only exit is a set
of stone double doors to the south.
There could be neatly stored cash money in the chests and crates in this room. Can I get someone to fully open the door and cast detect magic from just outside the room?
Chui carefully moves and searches for traps around the room, checking all of the chests, boxes, and urns.
As you search around the room you find no traps on the contents of the room, but then after a few minutes you locate what appears to be another secret door, and upon it a magical trap.
Great! Everyone stand back and make ready all your healing spells, hexes, wands, and whatnot. I'm going to try to disable this magical trap, and I may very well explode!
Chui is examining the section of wall, running his paw through the air finding the magic lines of the trap. He quickly figures it out and begins to try and unravel it, then something goes wrong. His paw slips and touches the wall and the spell lines glow for a second.
A sound begins to build as if a thousand bugs are crawling through the walls. Then from below the door they begin to appear. First one, then two, but ever growing faster. They are obviously a form of carrion bug, cockroaches maybe, and the form into a swarm around Chui.
Sorry, the trap went off. Time for INITIATIVE as Combat begins.
For real though...unless someone has a way of dealing with swarms we need to book it away from this thing. We could run away, all the way out of this tomb and get some alchemist fire while someone kites it in a circle outside(swarms normally are not very fast), open the door with water behind it to try to drown it(a bad idea), or if anyone else has a plan I would hear that out.
Another crazy idea, we could clog up the openings in the door with the tapestries we took. We could wait them out since we know the the swarm was magically summoned.
Chui comes trotting out of the room and slams the door shut with a low boom. From the looks of the door it may slow them down but they will eventually be able to get through.
My sword can’t do much against those bugs unless we can convince them to all line up and they will get through this door soon. We try to seal them in or we run.
Perception:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
This could be really bad. Mom used to tell me stories of body retrieval missions and the more than a few of those involved a rookie team of Pathfinders walking into a room and being eaten by a swarm they couldn’t deal with.
My legs become weak for a moment but I lean against the wall and steady myself while my eyes grow wide in horror, my pupils dilated.
They eat your eyes and crawl down your throat after they kill you to lay their eggs. That will NOT BE ME!
That's disgusting... We should probably just leave and come back later. Though I would like something to show for our troubles at this point... and it's probably behind this door.
Harmini sighs audibly.
I do have a wand that might help. Elendra, do you have any of that fire left inside you?
Elendra has taken the fire breath revelation but I'm rping its discovery here. Delay until i see the mass of critters perception:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17 Harmini I´m sorry i don't have the will to produce any flames.
I grab my hip flask, drink from it and wait for the swarm to appear.
This day keeps getting better and better. I’ll try to keep them off you while you hit them.
I need to trust that the others can handle this. They can handle anything. If they can pull me out of a living coffin, they can deal with a few bugs. I just need to make sure the bugs don’t go after them
elendra comes out of delay and moves he appearing swarm is cought at the edge of the. 15' cone of fire. And ready the following as my action.triggered when the swarm enters our area. *breathe deep my dear*
Elendra listens to the beautiful voice and breaths deep exhaling a cone of flame in the process.
That's new. What was that voice?is this a gift from sarenrae? Guys i think it may be time to run now
fire breath:
fire damage:1d4 ⇒ 2
DC 14 ref for half
spend hero point for extra standard an use it to move 30 ft away from the swarm. at work so i cant time this the way i wanted to i hope is is ok
