Wynrey, your turn.

Liberty's Edge

Female Half-Elf Unbreakable Fighter/1

Untrained Knowledge: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

I think it's a sand monster. I going to wrangle it!

Wiggling Grapple: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23

this is going to provoke.

The snake is focused on Chui and does not take the opportunity to strike at Wynrey. Wynrey moves in an grabs the snake, holding it still for Chui.

Chui, go ahead.

Catfolk Ninja Gigolo

Five foot diagonal step to get into flanking, icon moved.

Chui approaches rear of the creature on all fours and prepares to rip a huge hunk out of it with his canines.

SNARL

Attack:
Bite (bless and flanking) 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Damage (+sneak damage) 1d4 + 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + (1) + 1 = 5

Chui's bite rips more sand from the beast and it wreathes as it is struck. Then with a voice like windblown sand it begins to speak.

Chkko Flrrws!

Harmini, your turn.

Scarab Sages

Female Shabti Witch (Hex Channeler) 5

Oh my! It's intelligent sand... I hope Chui rips it to smithereens.

Good work, Chui. It appears injured. Keep biting!

5' Step next to Elendra. No actions.

Liberty's Edge

Female Half-Elf Unbreakable Fighter/1

Did it say it wanted chaco flowers?

How am I even holding onto this thing? Can I grapple the water out of a bucket next? Never-mind its fine I'm fine.

Linguistics can identify the language and possibly what was said.

The sand snake begins to grow more agitated. It rears back and strikes at Wynrey with it's fangs. The strike misses as Wynrey dodges.

Sand Snake Attack:
  • Bite 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
  • Damage 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

Elenrda, your turn.

oh i hope this works
After muttering under her breath elendra creates water and douses the sand hoping to solidify the creature

linguistics: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17

The water cascades across the creature and Wynrey, soaking them. As the water absorbs into the snake its movements becomes stiffer and more labored.

Elendra:
You can't quite make out what it is saying but the language is definitely Terran, than languages of creatures from the elemental plane of earth.

Wynrey, your turn.

Liberty's Edge

Female Half-Elf Unbreakable Fighter/1

Maybe now that I have him grappled I can understand what he wants from us, meld with his mind.

Sense Motive: 1d20 ⇒ 1

Guys, we need to find his choco flower!

Maintain Grapple(bless+flanking): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

If that check is successful I would like to pin him

Catfolk Ninja Gigolo

Sweet Mother of Bastet! "Find his choco flower!" Was she deliberately dropped on her head as a child?

Let's just make friends the old fashioned way. Kill them!

Wynrey, in the future make sure to account for the +5 bonus grapples if you are continuing the grapple.

Wynrey get's herself over the top of the snake and manages to press it to the floor. It is still struggling but has less leverage to do much more than that.

The thing is pinned Chui. Do what you want to it.

Catfolk Ninja Gigolo

Attack:
Bite 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Damage 1d4 + 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + (6) + 1 = 11

Chui sinks his teeth into what can only be considered the creatures neck. The sand snake screeches like glass breaking and goes limp in Wynrey's grasp. The wet sand of it's form seems to be slowly crumbling.

It seems unconscious and possibly dying, but it may not be dead.

Harmini, your turn.

Scarab Sages

Female Shabti Witch (Hex Channeler) 5

Harmini delays.

Is it dead yet? It certainly wasn't very friendly.

Snake Stabilization:
1d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 11

The snake is limp but the degrading of it's form stops. It seems unconscious but no longer dying.

Given that there is an ongoing spell effect, we can continue in rounds if you like as you move forward, or we can let it end and move to normal exploration. Your call.

Liberty's Edge

Female Half-Elf Unbreakable Fighter/1

Oh man, I say we just dump it in the corner and leave it. If nothing else, I am getting a pet sand snake on the way out...

I look over a a slightly sandy Chui and smile.

...and I he tastes terrible anyway.

Catfolk Ninja Gigolo

Chui is already rinsing his mouth out with fermented goats blood, and he shakes his head furiously.

Kill the damn thing so it doesn't attack us on the way out!

He pulls out an arrow and prepares to use it as an improvised weapon to deliver a coup de grace to the damp, but not fully dead sand thing.

Unless any one objects, Chui's coup de grace finishes it off.

Liberty's Edge

Female Half-Elf Unbreakable Fighter/1

Well at least I can make a nice sand castle later.

Ehh, very well.

Liberty's Edge

Female Half-Elf Unbreakable Fighter/1

Wow that the creature is dead I move into the room and look around.

Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20

Liberty's Edge

Female Half-Elf Unbreakable Fighter/1

Sorry, I meant to type "When that creature is dead"

Catfolk Ninja Gigolo

Chui moves carefully into the room alongside Wynrey, paying particular attention to the small tunnels going off to the north-west, north, and north-east.

By carefully, I mean taking 10 on Stealth checks and taking 20 on Perception checks

Once we're sure this space is clear, then we can check those double doors going off to the east

A flight of steps gradually descends to the west down this passage. Halfway down the stairs, small holes and burrowed tunnels riddle what remains of the passage’s southern wall. Earth and sand have spilled over the collapsed masonry, covering the stairs with dirt and rubble. Stone doors engraved with a golden scarab, its wings open beneath a golden sun, stand at either end of the stairs.

A quick search if the room turns up nothing of interested. After that search, Chui checks at the further doors but finds nothing of concern. The door is unlocked.

This expends two more rounds, so six rounds left of bless.

Catfolk Ninja Gigolo

Sorry, temporarily got turned around on north-south

Chai carefully cracks open one of the double doors, creating a space just wide enough for him to slip into the room. Having done so, he enters the room.

A tapestry hangs from a frame against the south wall of this large chamber; it depicts an otherworldly vista where the souls of the dead, shepherded by strange beings, enter an ethereal river ambling through space toward a landscape dominated by an impossibly tall spire. Columns sculpted in the shape of Osirian warriors wielding khopeshes stand in all four corners of the room. The floor is tiled in a white spiral pattern on a black background, and this spiral pattern is repeated on the stone double doors to the north, east, and west.

Chui:
No threat seems apparent at first glance. An untrained Knwoledge (religion) check can provide more information.

Catfolk Ninja Gigolo

Knowledge (religion):
untrained 1d20 ⇒ 10

Damn, people believe some weird s+!~. If it ain't got nekid kittens, it ain't for me.

Chui:
You recognize the tall spire and the spiraling patterns as symbols of Pharasma. Her symbols are common in tombs as people believe she watches over the dead.

Catfolk Ninja Gigolo

Chai whispers back to the rest of the party.

Some crazy symbols of Pharasma here on a tapestry, the floor, and the doors.

Don't know how much Chui knows. I find it interesting that the tomb has both symbols of Pharasma, a relatively new good in the context of Osirion, and Anubis, the ancient Osirian god of the dead. However, I don't know if this would occur to Chui.

Liberty's Edge

Female Half-Elf Unbreakable Fighter/1

Another tapestry? Well ok, let's check the room out and then we can remove it. I'm sure the clerics upstairs will love Pharasma work made during that time.

Elendra cautiously enters the room and gets a look around. Rubbing her forehead she mutters under her breath.
casts detect magic on the room
Everywhere else in this place has been bad news why should here be any different

Catfolk Ninja Gigolo

By "love," you mean pay us huge piles of gold, right?

Elendra, anything?

Liberty's Edge

Female Half-Elf Unbreakable Fighter/1

Well that goes without saying, Chui. I didn't learn much at Fangwood, but I do know that "Gold keeps the wheels moving". Is this business, it seems that the more historical something is, the more people will pay for it.

Something isn't right. This tomb has been just a bunch of empty rooms! If this guy's grave is this big then he should have been loaded. There should be things in these rooms, crumbling fancy furniture, various religious stuff, his personal things, and instead we get a dead thief with old rope and a blocked outer door. Someone's been here and took everything from these outer rooms. Maybe they couldn't get everything and there is an untouched room or two. I hope so.

Spoiler:
Elendra, nothing magical shows up with a quick scan.

Elendra's search with detect magic takes 2 more rounds.

Scarab Sages

Female Shabti Witch (Hex Channeler) 5

Harmini saunters into the room casually with Alabaster following along closely behind her. She takes a quick but clearly uninterested view of the surroundings.

So... Not much new going on here. The silly tapestry and symbols are likely just more Pharasmins' empty warnings. We should continue on.

So far this little excursion has been fruitless. I hope there's something more interesting further in.

Catfolk Ninja Gigolo

Chui carefully checks one set of doors and then the other, sniffing all the while.

Take 20 Perception checks at each set of doors, including scent ability

Chui:
The door to the north is locked but does not seem to have any hazards associated with it.

The door to the west is also locked, and does not appear hazardous, but you get a scent like fresh earth. Well, fresher than the rest of this place.

Liberty's Edge

Female Half-Elf Unbreakable Fighter/1

Hey Elendra, help me take this thing down while Chui checks the doors.

sure wynrey just a moment i want get a good look if anything is magical
Elendra continues to look around casting detect magic/taking extra rounds to get a proper sense if anything is off in this room before helping wynrey with yet another tapestry

Catfolk Ninja Gigolo

I get the smell of fresh earth behind the door to the west. It seems slightly similar to the smell of earth I picked up outside the room where we fought the two spider-scorpions

Is it similar? It seemed to be described in similar terms

Neither door appears to be trapped, but both are locked. I recommend going west and dealing with whatever is there first, OK?

Liberty's Edge

Female Half-Elf Unbreakable Fighter/1

I like that idea.

Chui:
The scent is similar but doesn't have the additional scent of something being active there. No death or decay, just fresh dug earth.

Liberty's Edge

Female Half-Elf Unbreakable Fighter/1

Fresh earth? Maybe its how the bugs are getting in? Let's check it out!

Catfolk Ninja Gigolo

OK people, I think we all know the drill by now. Harmini and Elendra pull open the doors, one on each side. Wynrey charges in and engages whatever baddie is waiting for us, and then I swing around the baddie's back side and rip it into tiny pieces.

So, once more with feeling?

Liberty's Edge

Female Half-Elf Unbreakable Fighter/1

Ok, lets do that.

I'm assuming that we took the tapestry down already.

Yes, the tapestry can be removed, but first someone needs to unlock the door.

Catfolk Ninja Gigolo

Yes, of course unlocking the door has been a key part of my cunning plan all along.

Disable Device:
picking lock1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24

Chui:
With a satisfying click the lock turns and the door can now be opened.

The Bless spell has run out. See discussion for me info on this concept.

So, assuming everyone else is ready, we can move on to opening the doors.
