Harmini:
This is a fine mask and should cost around 500 gold.

Scarab Sages

Female Shabti Witch (Hex Channeler) 5

Harmini collects the mask and puts it in her pack.

About time we found something worthwhile...

They do make lovely masks though... Akhentepi won't be needing this anymore. Shall we continue on and see if there is anything else of any value down here?

Liberty's Edge

Female Half-Elf Unbreakable Fighter/1

I think we should look around a bit more but it must be getting late in the day. Lets see if we missed anything on our way out and then once we are out of here we can rest and relax. Also I don't know about you three but I am starting to get hungry.

With us taking 20 on perception check the whole way down, that must have eaten up a lot of time. Or maybe it hasn't in which case nevermind.

You have been down here roughly three or four hours I would say.

There is one section left unexplored if you wish to head back that way.

Liberty's Edge

Female Half-Elf Unbreakable Fighter/1

Three to four hours? Its almost time for lunch

Follow me friends!

I walk to the unexplored section.

Scarab Sages

Female Shabti Witch (Hex Channeler) 5

Harmini follows Wynrey to the unexplored section.

Catfolk Ninja Gigolo

Lunch? Maybe I can lure that little snack out of Winery's backpack.

So, we're going back to look at those doors with the water behind them are we?

Liberty's Edge

Female Half-Elf Unbreakable Fighter/1

Yep, you checked it for traps so slip in and tell me what you see

Catfolk Ninja Gigolo

Well, "slipping in" would involve opening the doors and possibly unleashing a massive amount of water.

I have some major cat thinking that I'd like to run by you.

Wati is on the River Sphinx, right? Looking at the map of the city, we're right near the river, correct? Is it possible that these doors are a form of trap which would allow the river to enter the tomb and flood it (and drown us in the process)?

Finally, how well do we all breath water?

Chui stands at the door and confirms everyone is ready. He pulls on the door trying to gently open it, but immediately things start to go wrong. Water begins to seep in around the sides and Chui is forced back, trying to hold the door from pushing open fully.

In a matter of seconds the water starts to rise and it continues to flood in.

What is everyone doing?

Scarab Sages

Female Shabti Witch (Hex Channeler) 5

ugh... really? He must be the runt of the litter.

Harmini crosses her arms and speaks with a bit a frustration.

No Chui. None of us breath water. I suggest we continue on to the unexplored area that won't drown us all. Yes, that's a much better idea.

She exits the room and trods off toward the unexplored area where she waits impatiently for the others.

Scratch all this... Chui and I must have posted at the same time.

Catfolk Ninja Gigolo

This cat's not as dumb as a doggo.

Harmini seems to be doing some inspiring marching off, I'll follow her.

Chui tries to whistle/purr/etc. at a range above human hearing to see if he can attract the attention of Wynrey's dog without the others noticing.

The Exchange

big cat. want play? too big. stay. am dog. yes.

Rosa sticks her head out of Wynrey’s pack and begins to pant.

Moving things along...

Chui carefully eases the door open and slips through to see if it is safe.

Chui:
A brightly painted chariot sits in the center of this chamber.Beyond the chariot, a large canvas stretches between two stone columns. The skins of several animals—antelopes, great cats, and crocodiles—now faded and deteriorated with age, are tacked to this canvas. A wooden chest, lacquered white and trimmed with gold inlay, sits in the southeast corner. In each corner of the room a small stone shield is molded into the masonry at shoulder height. An open hallway leads to the east, and a set of stone double doors leads south.

Liberty's Edge

Female Half-Elf Unbreakable Fighter/1

I peek into the room.

This day is getting better and better. Now we could have a way to get around, assuming that this chariot works, we buy a horse, and we don't mind getting around in a gaudy, cramped vehicle...although it still beats walking everywhere.

Catfolk Ninja Gigolo

Chui appears not be listening to Wynrey.

Mental image of Chui driving chariot through town with several female catfolk draped over him, reins in one hand and bottle of double fermented goat blood in the other.

What? Oh yes, "beats walking," absolutely!

Can I get a little detect magic action? Then, I'll check for traps and all on chariot, chest, and whatnot.

Liberty's Edge

Female Half-Elf Unbreakable Fighter/1

Oh, if only I had brought my Numarian tape player we could have stuck it to the back of this thing and REALLY tear the streets up. There's no way I could have carried it here, also it wasn't technically mine...loved the music though.

DANGER ZONE!

Assuming Elendra and Harmini use Detect Magic to scane the room.

Elendra and Harmini:
There are two auras coming from within the chest. Checking further, there are also four auras coming from the room to the south. Three auras to the east and one to the west.

Catfolk Ninja Gigolo

I'll carefully check the chest, the chariot, and the skin/canvas thing on the wall for traps in that order.

Hey everyone there is magic coming from within the chest and some from the north, east and west rooms, so do be careful.
Elendra is cautiously looking over the room scanning with detect magic as Jeremy assumed.
I'd really like to get out of this wretched place now

Chui:
The chest is trapped. It seems to be some sort of bladed attack trap.

Please give me a disable device check.

Catfolk Ninja Gigolo

Disable Device:
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12

A normal, non-magical trap. I feel almost giddy.

Catfolk Ninja Gigolo

Maybe too giddy.

Chui Nyeusi wrote:
Maybe too giddy.

Yeah...

Chui squats and begins working on the chest. After some seconds later there is a soft clicking sound and Chui jumps back as a sharp blade with a dark stain on it spring out.

Trap Attack:
  • bladed trap 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
  • damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Chui stand up and returns to the chest, opening it carefully to make sure he does not touch the blade. Within it there are two small vials of fluid and two books whose pages are gold plated sheets. Harmini and Elendra quickly confirm the vials are magic potions, but the books are simple mundane works.

Please feel free to give me perception and/or spellcraft checks to identify the potions. Please give me appraise checks for the books.

Liberty's Edge

Female Half-Elf Unbreakable Fighter/1

I gently pick up the books one at a time, paging through them slowly.

Appraise: 1d20 ⇒ 13

Writing something into gold? Is this a cultural thing or had they not yet invented the concept of being tacky?

Pass on the perception checks, Wynrey is too busy looking at books

I also need two addition appraise checks for the chariot and the chest itself.

Catfolk Ninja Gigolo

For those interest in the finer points of disarming traps, I used the trigger and dodge technique here. Just one of the many skills I learned as a young gentletom Murraseth Guild of Expedited Departure.

Now, what do we have here?

Perception potion 1:
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17

Perception potion 2:
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

Appraise books:
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14

Appraise chest:
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Oh yeah, Chui needs a ride!

Appraise chariot:
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Elendra is more concerned with the auras eminating from the other and hastily examines the viles.
spellcraft: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
spellcraft2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

Scarab Sages

Female Shabti Witch (Hex Channeler) 5

Harmini moves over to Wynrey to examine the books.

I'm impressed Wynrey can even read...

She smiles.

Let me help you with those, dear.

Appraise:

Book 1: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Book 2: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Chariot: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Chest: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16

Question for the GM: Can Harmini read the language in the books?

Looks like these books would be best melted down and sold for their weight in gold. Same goes for that donkey cart. The chest needs to come back with us, however.

She points over to the chariot without even looking at it.

The party spends a little time going over the treasure.

GM Rolls:
  • 1d20 ⇒ 18
  • 1d20 ⇒ 20
  • 1d20 ⇒ 9
  • 1d20 ⇒ 16

Wynrey & Chui:
Looking over the books they appears to be quite valuable. To the right person you could probably sell the first one for about 225 gold, and the other for about half that much.

Chui & Elendra:
Examining the potions via taste test and the confirmed via magic, there appear to be 2 potions of cure light wounds ans a potion of darkvision.

Harmini:
The chest is quite well crafter, and the trap adds to that value. You could probably sell it for about 110 gold coins. The chariot is a different story. It would probably sell for about 90 coins if it is removed safely and restored.

To safely remove and restore the chariot will require a Craft (carpentry) or profession (driver) check

Liberty's Edge

Lets take what we can. The cart, sadly, might have to stay down here. I mean, who would pull this thing up and get it out the door? Would it even survive the trip? I doubt it. We will have to find a ride elsewhere.

Catfolk Ninja Gigolo

But I want a cool chariot!

Somewhat sullenly, Chui agrees

OK, OK, we leave the chariot. You guys are all big squares!

Oh, and I'd very much like that darkvision potion, thank you very much. And one of the cure light potions too. I seem to be injury prone.

Liberty's Edge

Female Half-Elf Unbreakable Fighter/1

That makes sense. Once we have everything packed up we should head out, was this the last room left unexplored? Or did I forget something? If it is we could make our way back to the Pharasmins, then lunch...you guys like shawarma? I smelled some yesterday and let me tell you...

Wynrey stands still, lost in thought for a moment when a snort from Rosa snaps her out of it.

What was I talking about just now? Oh right, I think there is one section left that we haven't looked at in the room with the coffin that ate me. We should go there next.

Catfolk Ninja Gigolo

Um, we still need to look over this last room down here, beyond the one with the cool chariot.

Oh dear, the one that Wynrey appears to have walked into before I've had a chance to check it for traps.

Wynrey heads east down a hall. To one side of the hall hangs four funerary masks, each staring down in judgement at those that pass.

Wynrey then enters the last room where she finds a table displaying a three-dimensional diorama occupies much of the north side of this room. Three shields with different designs are displayed upon a rack against the east wall, while various weapons hang from another rack along the south wall. Arrayed around the room are five small chests and a clay urn.

Chui suddenly rushes ahead seeing that Wynrey has not taken the precaution of letting him check things out.

Wynrey, give me a perception check and everyone (including Wynrey) give me Initiative.

GM Initiative:
[list]
  • 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
  • 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22

  • Catfolk Ninja Gigolo

    GURRHR

    Bastet - really, really?

    Initiative:
    1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

    Scarab Sages

Female Shabti Witch (Hex Channeler) 5

    Initiative:
    1d20 ⇒ 15

    Liberty's Edge

    Female Half-Elf Unbreakable Fighter/1

That's my mistake, I thought this was part of the room we had checked out, oh dear...

Oh I thought you looked here, well I haven't exploded yet.

    I look around the room.

Anyone there? If you're here to kill me, please take a number and get in line.

    Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13

    Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11

    initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
    everyone please be careful

As Wynrey begins looking around, the two dolls on the diorama begin to move. The short wooden toys move gracefully and seem to have a strength beyond something their size would normally produce. Wynrey fails to notice them at first as the climb down to the floor and begin to position themselves. Just as they prepare to strike she sees them finally.

No surprise round. Initiative is posted.

One of the dolls moves from around the side of the table and raises its hands to strike Wynrey. The first strike is off the mark but the second hits her hard in the leg.

    Warrior Doll Attack:
    • Slam 1 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
    • Damage 1d3 ⇒ 1
    • Slam 2 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
    • Damage 1d3 ⇒ 3
    • Slam 2 Confirmation 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
    • Damage Confirmation 1d3 ⇒ 3

    Elendra, your turn.

    Catfolk Ninja Gigolo

Chui nearly topples over with laughter

Careful? If we were careful, we sure as heck wouldn't be down here!

Elendra draws her wand. Holds it high in the air.
may the light of sarenrae guide your hands
    uses wand to cast bless
    Elendra steps back

    Liberty's Edge

    Female Half-Elf Unbreakable Fighter/1

Yeah, who needs careful, this is way more fun!

The second doll mimics its companion, raising its fists and attempts to batter Wynrey. Wynrey is caught off guard and the doll slams her hard. The cold black eyes stare forward unnervingly.

    Warrior Doll Attack:
    • Slam 1 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
    • Damage 1d3 ⇒ 3
    • Slam 2 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
    • Damage 1d3 ⇒ 1

Harmini, your turn. Feel free to give me a Knowledge (arcana) to identify these dolls.

    Scarab Sages

Female Shabti Witch (Hex Channeler) 5

    Knowledge Arcana:
    1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20

What kind of creepy dolls are these? I’d like to know defenses/weaknesses and HD.

    Harmini:
These dolls are a variety of animated object. They appear to be made of wood, material which tends lead to minor hardness and a vulnerability to fire. Animated objects of this size tend to be fairly weak as well.

Mechcanically, they have hardness 5, vulnerable to fire, and 1 HD.

    Catfolk Ninja Gigolo

    Am I up now?

    Scarab Sages

Female Shabti Witch (Hex Channeler) 5

Oh how nice. Adorable little flammable dolls... Wynery, darling. You should move out of the way.

Harmini approaches the dolls and within an instant, a wand appears in her raised hand.

Move Action - Move 10' southeast. Swift Action - Activate spring-loaded wrist sheath to produce a wand of burning hands. Standard Action - Ready an action to activate the wand once Wynrey is clear of the 15' cone drawn on the map. DC 11 Reflex save for half.

    Readied Action:
    Burning Hands: 5d4 ⇒ (1, 4, 3, 2, 1) = 11 Adding 50% =
    16. Succesful save = 8.

    Catfolk Ninja Gigolo

    MRRROWW! I like this plan!

After all, the motto of my old school was "If it's not burning, pour more kerosene on it."

Wynrey, please move so that I gain flanking on the first doll.

Delaying until after Harmini's readied action goes off.
