Chui turns to the sound of his companion screaming and responds in turn. He bites the scorpion's tail as it whips around and drives the claws of one hand into it's back.
The scorpion turns to this new threat and strikes with both claws and it's tail. Chui easily dodges the claws coming at him but his moves put him in line for the tail to follow up.
- Claw 1 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
- Claw 1 Damage 1d3 ⇒ 2
- Claw 2 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
- Claw 2 Damage 1d3 ⇒ 2
- Tail 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
- Tail Damage 1d3 ⇒ 2
Please give me a FORTITUDE save.
Wynrey, it is your turn.

OK, lets try this again.
I step a around Harmini and attempt to use my acrobatics skill to avoid the attack from the scorpion.
acrobatics: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
I then draw my katana and answer with a swing of my own!
Katana strike: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 181d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Watch out for its tail, it's poisoned!
Harmini retreats further southwest next to Chui. She then retrieves a kit from a hook on the side of her backpack, opens it up quickly and smears a strange smelling paste-like substance to the area where Chui was stung.
This will help the numbness pass.
Free Action - 5' step southwest. Move Action - Retrieve a stored item. Standard Action - Treat poison using the Heal skill w/ a Healing Kit. 9 uses remaining.

OK, I see what I was doing wrong. I'm in.

Chui Nyeusi |

With both Elendra and Wynrey now "wiggling," Chui wonders if it would be better to fight with his eyes closed.
5' step to north to get into flanking and full attack
Damage 1d4 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + (2) = 3
Damage 1d4 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + (1) = 4
Damage 1d4 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + (4) = 8

Chui's bite tears the scorpion's tail off and his claws open up the carapice. The scorpion lies on the floor twitching as it begins to die.
Unless there is a reason to you four want to stay in rounds, combat is over. Continue as normal. Also, I opened the door on the map. Forgot to do that for you at the start.

Chui Nyeusi |

Since my one point of Str loss is ability damage, I won't take any mechanical penalties until I take a second point of Str damage, correct? I think I made a mistake not adding my +1 Str bonus to the damage of my last round of attacks.
Also, I recover the point loss after 24 hours or through a lesser restoration spell, right?
Chai takes a swig of fermented goat's blood, swishes it around in his mouth, and spits it out.
I would prefer better tasting foes.

That was unpleasant... I've certainly had worse. I can take care of this small puncture later. At least my companions seem capable in a fight.
Harmini puts away her healing kit. Her face twists in disgust at Chui's comment and action.
That's quite disgusting. You should know that.
She then turns her attention to Elendra.
Yes, I suggest we continue also. I am very interested to see what's on the other side of this door.
Harmini peeks inside as well since she's already there.

The light from Chui's ioun torch shines in the room revealing the room.
This square room is starkly devoid of any markings or adornment. In the center of the chamber’s floor, a square shaft drops straight down into darkness. A faint musty odor rises from the pit. A single piton has been hammered into the stone floor by the northeast corner of the pit, and a dusty length of rope dangles from the piton into the darkness of the shaft.

Shit! Bad news guys, it looks like we aren't the first people to come through here. Does that mean the bug came here after them? Did they put the bug here after them to guard or did they...not make it and now there are undead shuffling around there. Hmmm. Can someone smart check out this piton and guess how long its been in here?
I peek down the hole
enginnering: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15

yeah, we can stop for a bit I don't mind that at all. In the meantime...
After pulling up the rope, I stand up and walk outside of the tomb and start digging around my mules packs.
I'm not comfortable having half the members of this group shaking off the effects of poison. Lets take a break and I can set a few amenities up.

Talalmackk Chirronna |

After a slight break the Tossers return to the room with the shaft leading down. Wynrey once again checks the rope she pulled up and this time notices the clean slice in it about 5 feet down, in addition to it's age which makes it unreliable to climb down. It appears that this rope is possibly older than most of the members of the party.

![]() |

Oh man, this rope is super old so whoever used this is more than likely dead or not here. Or undead and still here, fun either way! Speaking of undead, this hole is built to keep things from climbing up so that could make escape a problem. Oh and if the door closes then the wheel that opens it needs to be operated by two people. So who wants to climb down the dark scary hole filled with monsters first?
Oh golly, I hope its me!

![]() |

Well if you insist, I do have this knotted rope and grappling hook. With that and this piton, I'm sure I could work something out. Anyone have more rope? If not I might have to un-knot it.
You're killing it with the puns today Wynrey!
In all seriousness, 60 feet down is a big drop. Let me check our stuff...wait is Elendra the only other person who brought rope?
I get that Chui is a cat man, and cat men do climb, but rope costs a gold. Who goes on an adventure and doesn't bring rope? Ehh, it all good, I can work with this.
I look at Elendra.
Hey girl, wanna be rope buddies?

Chui Nyeusi |

I'm going to be working from home today, so I'll be online and available for most of the day
Chui returns to the room with the pit and ancient rope, snacking on a still struggling and squeaking sand rat that made the mistake of crossing his path.
MROW, I got rope and pitons; as you might guess the motto of my old school was "Be Prepared."
Does the undead sniffing wand reach all the way to the bottom of this hole?
Chui knots his rope, attaches it to Wynrey's, and secures one end to a freshly installed set of new pitons.
Unless that undead sniffer finds something, I'm heading down
Chui tosses the last bit of rat into his mouth and gives a big toothy, bloody grin.
Why doesn't someone close the outermost set of doors, so we won't be disturbed as we die screaming below.

Chui Nyeusi |

After I hear word on the want of undead detection.
Chui has +13 Climb, so taking 10 on a knotted rope shouldn't require a die roll
Chui slowly and quietly moves down the rope.
About 20 feet from the floor below and thus about 10 feet from where the bottom of the pit opens into the chamber's roof, Chui pauses to sniff the air.

Talalmackk Chirronna |

The two ropes together easily reach the floor below.
Chui casually slides down the rope, stopping just before the shaft ends and the room opens up.
There does not appear to be anything moving below.

Chui Nyeusi |

Chui sighs and scampers back up the rope.
Let's try to avoid too much yelling.
There is an old body on the floor and a set of doors. I'm going to go back down and check on them.
Start down when I tug on the rope or if you hear fighting.
Chui heads down again, going all the way to the floor this time. He moves quietly over to the body and gives it a visual inspection.

![]() |

Harmini waits patiently for Chui to give the all clear below.
Well, our catfolk companion certainly is brave, even if he is disgusting. I'm glad none of them expect me to go first... Though, being last didn't help much either. That scorpion came out of nowhere! Did Wynrey just say this large stone door might close? That would not be good for us...
She walks past Wynrey into the room with the others.
Wynrey, did you say that this large door may close? That would be quite unfortunate, do you think you might be able to secure it open somehow?
