You do not see any tunnels they may have dug but you do see more tracks similar to the ones from the previous room. It is a good assumption that these bugs made both sets of tracks.
Chui, give me a knowledge (religion) check. This can be made untrained.
The altar in the room seems to be dedicated to one of the old gods. You are 100% sure but you believe it is dedicated to Anubis, god of tombs and the patron of embalmers.
Hey guys, we're in the way, way back machine here. It looks like the altar here was dedicated to Anubis, god of tombs and the patron of embalmers, and a big pre-Qadiran god around these parts. Check out his ugly dog head.
Chui likes the cute gods with the cat heads! That's some religion I can get behind!
Anubis huh? That's interesting. It would make sense the a tomb god would be in a tomb. Oh do you want us to make him our group mascot? It might make him less upset with us when we keep showing up near his shrines and I like to keep the gods that are upset with me to under five.
I'll pass on the god that looks like a dog as mascot, unless we want to call him Fido and toss him the bones of the undead we kill
Looks like Harmini is right. This is a dead end. We had some fun, killed some things, and now it's time to check to the door to the west in the room with the once annoying, but now broken, mirror of head burning.
Doing the same thing here, that I did at the door to the east
Chui carefully approaches it, checking for traps and trying to ascertain what might be on the other side. Then, when he is confident that the way is clear, he opens the doors only as much as is necessary to peer through and see what's on the other side.
As you push open the door you hear what sounds like shifting sand.
Please give me a PERCEPTION check as you look around the door
A flight of steps gradually descends to the west down this passage. Halfway down the stairs, small holes and burrowed tunnels riddle what remains of the passage’s southern wall. Earth and sand have spilled over the collapsed masonry, covering the stairs with dirt and rubble. Stone doors engraved with a golden scarab, its wings open beneath a golden sun, stand at either end of the stairs.
GM ROLL:
1d20 ⇒ 2
The door is not open but giving Chui a look. The orange outlines area is loose sand and debris, these squares are considered difficult terrain.
Sorry about that, just meant that I opened it on the map so you could see the map. The door is not a mimic... THIS TIME!
Chui:
As you look around the door the source of the sound becomes clear. The sand itself seems alive as a serentine form slithers along the stairs. This is no natural creature though as it's body is composed completely of sand.
Well that tapestry was a nice find but we haven't found anything significant, except a magic mirror which we smashed. Has this tomb already been plundered?
Since it worked well last time... Let's get initiative. This time I do need Wynrey to roll, and if you wish to let her lead, people will hold their actions.
As for what the creature is, that would be a knowledge (planes) check, but I do not think anyone has that skill.
gone for weekend. Back late sunday, GM feel free to act as elendra until i can get back. My first action after opening the door is use a charge of wand of bless initiative:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Elendra and Harmini pull open the door and Wynrey goes to step up, but the snake-like creature seemed to be ready and it darts forward to strike at you.
Sand Snake Attack:
Bite 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Damage 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
The creatures maw slams into Wynrey's shield, the blow driving Wynrey to stumble back a bit.
Elendra in shock of the sudden rush stumbles back a bit but then recovers herself. She raises her wand and chants softly for a second, then a halo of light expands out from the wand and washes over her and her companions.
Elendra casts BLESS on the party. Harmini, it is your turn.
Chui steps around to the side trying to get an advantageous position. He launches himself at the creature. His teeth ripe into it and the sand flows like blood from his mouth. His claws follow but while the slice through the beast, it again seems to feel nothing from it.
