Now that the party's been chosen, here's the space to talk about your characters and change anything you want to change about them.
As a reminder, I'm going to be at Gen Con from August 12th-18th. Gameplay will really pick up when I get back.
Alraniel "Nel" Sandhal
Excellent! Quick question: How do you want to deal with animal companion initiative, do you want them to be with the main characters, or do you want to go on their own initiative?
Pluck
Hello everyone and thanks for the selection LS! I'll be at Gen Con too and then taking my son off to his freshman year at Iowa State the very next day. Should be able to post fine between now and the start of Gen Con, but will probably disappear from the 13th to the 18th (with botting aok). After that, normal posting will resume. BTW, thank you asked for time zone and I am CST.
Lunar Sloth
Well, in a play-by-post, initiative is a kinda wonky thing to begin with. I'm just going to have any animal companions/mounts/familiars/other pets go on their owners initiative.

Hi Everyone,
I am looking forward to discovering Riddleport with everyone. Like my character I am familiar with Sandpoint, but Riddleport will be a totally new adventure.
I only wish I was going to Gencon. Pluck and LS Enjoy your time there. Please tell us non-attendees all about it.
I am in the Eastern time zone, Southern US. Dragoncon is about as close as I ever get to a Con.
My character is looking forward to a round of ale, or two, or three with you all.
Cheers,
M

Much greetings to all from the Land of the Linnorm kings! Aviara shall probably not introduce herself as such. She shall go by the name Vara initially, and I shall be using two aliases for the same character, if that is okay.
Initially, she will look more like this. Hair down, face partly covered, ears covered, and not making direct eye contact. This will all change substantially as the adventure goes on.
Btw, I love it that we have two other half-elves in the party! And that one is a cavalier. Expect many questions about the meaning of bravery. (^_^)
I also love that we have a cleric of Cayden Caliean. With a few drinks in her, Vara / Aviara may open up just a little bit more. (^_^)
AvaeVara Mjötviðra
I shall eventually switch to this alias for my character. Aviara shall begin doing her hair up in a pony tail, showing off her elf-ears, and her birthmark on her belly, at some point in the story once she feels she has redeemed herself for her past failings.
I do not expect anyone to have to RP Aviara out of her shell. She'll go through her change on her own once she feels she has faced danger and shown courage in a significant way.
Even so, I am looking forward to interaction with the other characters. This looks like a great group. I look forward to an exciting adventure! (^_^)
And btw, the two I know who are going, have plenty of fun at GenCon! Slow or fast paced, I am excited about this game. Thanks for the invite, LS! (^_^)

Now that our group is set, would you guys prefer a bard that is more roguey than buffy? I would happily make some adjustments. Bottom line I want to create a party composition with the highest chance of success. This AP can be brutal from what I've read.
Also, I guess at some point (if I stay buffy bard) we should address the overlap of the cavalier banner vs my flagbearer feat (although it doesn't come into play until very much later in our game).
Varknarnost Kettlewidget
I guess I just want to do my best to enhance the party as much as possible, whether it be through buffing my allies or becoming mechanically stronger myself. I was eyeballing archeologist or sandman, but I think I like Vark as a vanilla buffer bard.
"Vara" Mjötviðra
The vanilla bard is one of the funnest classes in my opinion. There is a lot of potential for creativity there, as you can come up with the songs your character sings, and describe bardic antics. (^_^)
Now, looking again at the party list, we do not appear to have a rogue, but we have a good variety of characters. If we work well together as a group with the abilities we have, I think we should be able to do well.
Lunar Sloth
Plus with two melee fighters, each with horses... I think you're going to be good in that regard. You may want someone in the party to put a rank in disable device, though.
The one thing to pay attention to, particularly between Mazra and Varknarost, and Aviara to a point, is to just check over any buffs you plan on using on a regular basis, since morale bonuses don't stack.
Also, if everyone update the "status" spoilers (this can be done by adding them in to your race and class blocks) to include their HP and tracked abilities (bardic performance, challenges - that sort of thing), that would be wonderful. If you could have a stats spoiler as well that includes AC (with touch and flat-footed), total HP, saves, perception and initiative, it'll make my job as gm a lot smoother.
I'm hoping to post the gameplay thread tonight so you can at least begin mingling in-character before the Tournament begins.
I have already read (and own - thanks, Nel!) the first book of Second Darkness and am almost done with the second book. In general. I'm following the recommended conversion paths, and only major NPCs are being fully rebuilt instead of the quick conversions. Personally, I love Golarion's lore and the Darklands are a particular favorite area. I'm so excited to be running this AP and look forward to seeing this group go the distance!
Varknarnost Kettlewidget
Sounds good. Has our samurai friend checked in yet?
For now, the two buffs I will have up pretty much constantly are:
Inspire Courage: An affected ally receives a +1 morale bonus on saving throws against charm and fear effects and a +1 competence bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls.
Flagbearer: As long as you hold your party’s flag, members within 30 feet who can see the flag gain a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls, weapon damage rolls, and saving throws against fear and charm effects.
Tamiro
Hello hello! Sorry I have not checked in, been a bit busy!
Just to give a quick synopsis on my characters strategy:
He will be a frontline two-weapon fighter tank: Combat Expertise, Two-Weapon Shield, etc.
Lunar Sloth
Gameplay thread has been established here.
If you wish to make any character changes, you're more than welcome to do so before you hit level two. Please, however, keep the same class and general character backstory. Changes should be logged in this thread.
Alraniel "Nel" Sandhal
Yo, Slothsy, could you post the rules for ghoulette and heave here or in the gameplay thread? I would like to know the mechanics before I commit to either game.
Lunar Sloth
It's okay, and I'll be sure to do that.
Working on typing up the rules now for Ghoulette. I'll also post the rules for heave as soon as I have access to the book it's from.
Varknarnost Kettlewidget
I've got my son all day today, so I won't be able to get a decent post up until this evening. Gonna be in and out of airports all day tomorrow so I might not be able to post.
Lunar Sloth
Please don't try to exploit the obvious flaw in the tournament (ie, just buying tons of chips to win). All will be done in due time.
Lunar Sloth
No worries. I totally feel that as well :)
Also, as a note, I'm in full Gen Con-prep mode (I'm running 8 PFS scenarios over the course of the convention... ooof!). You'll have until I return to continue gambling, interacting with other characters and doing whatever else you want. I will not have internet access from Tuesday 8/11-Monday 8/18.
Pluck
I'm in full on Gen Con prep mode too. Today is a heavy day for me getting everything ready to go, then normal PFS tomorrow, then I have a pitch for work that I'm prepping for Mon-Tue with the pitch out of town Wednesday, fly into Indy Wednesday night for the following schedule
I'm GMing 6 slots this year and playing the other 4!

Sun 8/17/2014 8:00:00 GM The Merchant's Wake (1-5)

So bottom line is that expect a post a day from me from now until Wednesday (I hope) and then dead zone till the 19th.

I set up Mazra in Herolab. Realized I had spent 1 point too many for ability scores. Lowered Wisdom from 17 to 16. This gave two points to spend, which I then added to Dexterity. I modified all related effects accordingly. Hope this was OK.

I found the heave drinking game online as listed from Skull and Shackles:
Heave: This potentially deadly drinking game is played with rum and takes place between any number of pirates, who bet to predict the winner beforehand. Each pirate drinks a half pint of rum in one swig. Doing so forces participants to make a successful DC 15 Fortitude save or have the damage dealt by the rum ration increase by +1 (see sidebar; this is in addition to the normal effects of the rum ration). This DC increases by +3 for each consecutive drink. Pirates then take turns drinking until only one is left standing. Some tales tell of entire crews drinking themselves to death through this game, leaving ships of drunk ghosts wandering the shipping routes.
Pluck
Yes, that one can really be deadly. We ran a modified version when I was in a PbP for it.
Heads up that I'm likely to have few if any updates until Tue Aug 19 or Wed Aug 20 due to
1. Important pitch this week
2. Losing several days to Gen Con (every slot is full)
3. Taking my oldest off to college
Always a chance I'll slip a post in here or there, but please GMPC me as needed to keep things moving.
Lunar Sloth
I found the heave drinking game online as listed from Skull and Shackles:
Thank you for grabbing this!
Also, I leave for Gen Con tomorrow. I am not going to be paying 20/night for wifi in my hotel room (really? really?), so expect few to no updates over the week.
Varknarnost Kettlewidget
Good, because this test I'm on is absolutely bonkers. Spent all day hiking with a squad of rangers through the mountains. I am beat to say the least. Two weeks of this!
Varknarnost Kettlewidget
I don't think I'll have time to sift through all of the posts with a fine-toothed comb being away for work and all, but I would like to throw up a post soon. Could someone just give me a quick rundown of who is seated together and playing which game? That would do me worlds of good.
Thanks!

If I am not mistaken, i am at a table playing "other games" with Pluck, Tamiro and Nel. Vara is at the Ghoulette wheel. Hope this helps and is accurate.
Cheers,
Lunar Sloth
I'm back from Gen Con and will be posting tonight in the thread. It seems like everyone's pretty much done with the games - is that correct?
"Vara" Mjötviðra
I did win one round with Ghoullette and wanted to try my luck again, but I am fine ending it on a high note if everyone is ready to move on. (^_^)
Lunar Sloth
If you want to take one or two more rounds of gambling, I'll be happy to accommodate that. Tonight I'll start moving things along!
Pluck
Me and my boys had a blast at Gen Con as usual. Also really, really excited about both the Occult Adventures and Hell's Rebels announcements!
Tough call on favorite game as a player. Probably the Friday Night Special, but Silver Mount Collection was also a lot of fun. Both of those games I got to play with both of my boys which made them extra special.
Favorite game as a GM was easily Paths We Choose. I had a great group of players who all knew each other and we had an especially tough battle in one of the mini scenarios that had one of the players die and another one drop. One of those fights where everyone was on the edge of their seat.
Bonekeep was also a very good run. Another group of players who all knew one another and a poor Arcane Trickster who just kept getting dropped. Finally died in the third and final (for them) room, though fortunately the cleric was able to bring him back with a breath of life.
Lunar Sloth
Gen Con was tons of fun! I ran lots of PFS and ended up running a post-con game on Sunday night as well. It was a great experience!
Sadly, one of player characters died in the Legacy of the Stonelords - I crit on a level one with a halbred and uh there's not much that can be done with that.
I got to play the Paths We Choose with a table full of my friends, which just made it a great experience in general. Plenty of Taldan noble fun going on at that table. It was just a really good time, though my voice is now shot.
Lunar Sloth
With our first combat, a few things to note. If you wish to move, please note the grib location you're moving to and I'll do so accordingly. Also, please post at least something each round, even if it's as simple as "I got to the closest thing and hit it with my longsword". Finally, most everyone except Mazra is blinded for the next three rounds after I rolled a group will save.
In addition, Flagbearer is not yet active as the flag does not have a state allegiance yet (and there was no time to make it for the party, as you've barely introduced yourselves to each other).
Lunar Sloth
Awesome! I just wanted to make that clear to everyone involved. All, uh, one of you that aren't blind.

Glad to hear all had a good time at Gen Con. Someday I hope to attend.
Back to gaming discussion:
My PC is the only one that can see, and he has last initiative. This should be fun. :)

I will be at the beach all this week and the wifi here appears to be pretty spotty. I will still keep up with things and should be able to maintain posting as needed.
So excited to finally be playing in SD!
