I'm so proud! Also, I'm in this campaign for the long haul - you don't have to worry about me disappearing. I've always wanted to run Second Darkness, but I really don't think I'll be able to run it with any of my in-person groups. Of course, I know that there's always some die-off of players with pbps when real life gets in the way. I want to avoid this from happening as much as possible, so my personal goal is to post twice a day so that you guys stay motivated to check regularly :D

Also, as a note, I'm pretty liberal with the "take 10" option, especially on a play-by-post. While you haven't done anything dungeon-y yet, if you want to take 10 perception the whole way through, or set up a standard operating procedure (we check the door with a take 10 perception) before going in, let me know. Of course, this is within limits of the rules - you can only take 10 when you aren't distracted. I consider distracted to be when you're in battle or if you're having to perform more than one check at a time, such as climbing and looking.

You don't know how glad I am to hear that. Every game I've been in so far has ended for that exact reason. Here's hoping this one does indeed go the distance.

I can't control anyone else (except for sometimes poking Nel!), but I'm keeping up my bargain. My biggest concern is 1) making it past the 3-month mark and 2) keeping up posting during the holidays.
You guys have some time right now (IRL) to do what you would like in regards to roleplaying, etc. I'm planning on posting the next "big" event Tuesday night at 8 PM.

Also, if anyone wants my personal email to either chat about the current storyline, character backgrounds or side-roleplay things you're doing, drop me a PM. I've been getting 50+ spam messages a day, so I don't want to post it publicly. Plus, it'll give you a way to bug me if I disappear, haha! (I promise I won't disappear without giving you notice!)

Hi guys, I'm still here. I will post in the morning, as I have gotten suddenly busy. Sorry about the delay, but I'm trying to come up with a good response.
"Vara" Mjötviðra
Yay for RP! Glad you're still with us, Nel. I understand the whole busy thing all too well. :)
In response to all the stuff earlier about the long haul, I definitely want to see this game through to the end. I'm really enjoying playing with this group, and it's a great campaign as well. So yeah, I'm in for as long as it goes, hopefully all the way! (^_^)
Alraniel "Nel" Sandhal
Right... Nel's hit points. The hit points for Nel.
Hp: 1d10 ⇒ 6
Hp2: 1d10 ⇒ 3
How were we doing animal companion hit points? Gabralter gets a hd at this level too. I've rolled below, but I am okay with re-averaging them out too.
Horse: 1d8 ⇒ 3
Horse 2: 1d8 ⇒ 6

Quick audit of leveled characters:
In addition, the armor bonus from the Bracers of Armor and your Leather armor doesn't stack. Your AC should only be 16. Also, I notice yuo use a heavy wooden shield. While you're mainly an unarmed fighter, keep in mind that you won't be able to cast spells while holding both your shield and a weapon.
Also, skill ranks for level 2 aren't factored into your stats.
Varknarnost Kettlewidget
5 escape artist = 1 rank, 3 class skill, 2 DEX, -1 ACP
I can break them all down for you in this fashion if you require, but it will have to wait until Monday.

I also added a rank count for my skills, as well as a tally of where other bonuses come from.
And- I changed my AC. I'm bummed to see that indeed, the bracers of AC do not stack with my armor! Since that is the case, I think it would be more valuable for our party to sell them and share the gold. ^^

Moving this over to the Discussion thread. Thanks Slothsy for your explanations. It makes more sense now. I was a 3.5 DM for many years in a Home Brew. When 4e came out, we jumped into it with both feet. For over two years we played in 4e, but became discouraged with the system. I decided to give RotR a try using 3.5 rules from the original AP. Quite frankly it was like putting on a comfortable pair of shoes after wearing ones that did not fit quite right. I am now so entrenched in Pathfinder, that I have no desire to go elsewhere. But subtle changes in the Pathfinder game does mess with me from 3.5. So, thanks again for keeping me straight.

I figured it was something like that :) I understand the confusion - it's so similar that it makes it easy to forget the differences!
As a head's up, I am in the middle of the heaviest point of year at my job and things are starting to ramp up academically. In addition, I'm applying to a new job and starting that process. If my posts are little less detailed or slower, that's what's going on. I'm still 100% committed to this play-by-post.
Alraniel "Nel" Sandhal
Hey Slothsy,
I just realized that opportunistic gambler (My campaign trait) informs me that I recently paid off a loan to Lymas Sneed. What does Nel know about him, since she has had dealings with him in the past.

Also, having reviewed the Occult Adventures playtest (and built a PFS character out a blob of GM credit), I've come to the conclusion that it doesn't really fit the flavor of Second Darkness and will not be using it/opening it for PC use. I don't think anyone was really thinking about using it, but I figured I'd make a statement about.
Of course, I'm willing to be swayed by a particular argument or concept.

Also, next post won't be till late tonight or tomorrow - work is busy today and I have class till 10:00 PM. There is a wave coming. It's pretty obvious. You can brace yourself against the wave, help out others get to safety, or just generally watch in awe.
This is an unusual occurrence.

Hey, sorry for the slow weekend. I'm feeling massively under the weather, in that generic-y flu/cold/allergies way. Most of my free time has been spent sleeping, to be perfectly honest. In addition, I want to resolve the current scene with Nel before bringing the rest of the party back to the Gold Goblin (due to the fact that she left early). You'll probably all conveniently arrive right after Nel finishes speaking to Saul, if you choose to go straight back to the Gold Goblin rather than visit Larur Feldin's house.
"Vara" Mjötviðra
That is totally understandable; I am sorry to hear that you have been sick. I hope you feel better soon! :)
I didn't mean to rush anything- I was just trying to keep thread alive with a post / day. ^^ Would it be okay to continue the conversation we have on the way back to the Gold Goblin if there is interest? )
It also appears that we have so far agreed in character to check in on the Golden Goblin rather than visit Feldin with one companion short. ^^
As for the Occult stuff, I definitely like Vara as a druid, so I probably won't be looking at any of the Occult Adventures material.
Alraniel "Nel" Sandhal
Nel's going to start to gather everyone up. Her plan is to talk with Saul, and then go back out to see Larur's home.
Varknarnost Kettlewidget
Sorry, busy day being off yesterday and trying to get ready for my son's birthday party this weekend and this morning we had the higher ups coming through the office for a visit. Vark post incoming!
If we're being brutally honest, I'm ready for some action. Let's go check out Feldin's place, although in character I don't think it would make sense until the morning. Tidal waves are kind of a big deal.
"Vara" Mjötviðra
*******************************************
I want to see how any conversation concerning Saul's treachery plays out. Vara's plan is similar to Nel's, though she definitely wants the other half-elf to do the talking. She is going to be very cautious around Saul from now on.
Vara is quietly rooting for Vark to be successful with Sam. :) The flamboyant gnome and sweet half-elf would make an interesting and cute couple. However, if Vark does get a knee- wouldn't it more likely be to the face? ;b
And for a few words on an earlier topic.... ^^
That's it! Vara and Mazra worked together to realize that Vark was sobbing over his ruined clothes. I could see this. It is no secret that Vark cares deeply for his wardrobe. ;)
I imagine the exchange must have been something like... Mazra looks down at Vark, sees his sob, turns confused glance at Vara who grabs her own clothing and gives it a little tug to indicate- he's crying over his attire! She means it as a joke, when suddenly they both realize- wait, it's Vark. That probably is what's upsetting him! Mazra then speaks his words of comfort followed by Vara. ;)
Varknarnost Kettlewidget
Yay. I'm very curious to see how Vark reacts to finally encountering Drow. Probably lots of slack-jawed, speechless moments, haha. And terror. Lots of terror.
Varknarnost Kettlewidget
Woo. When my f2f game had a TPK at the end of the second book of RotRL, I tried to give it a little reboot by incorporating a little bit of the SD AP (the beginning of book 3), but it didn't even last an entire session.
So, I'm going in blind for the most part, exactly the way I like it.
"Vara" Mjötviðra
Never played this AP, so I'm going in blind as well. Yay! I'm having so much fun already, and it only gets better from here- an elf city- and drow! What I really love about this first adventure is how well it foreshadows what's to come. And I think everyone of our characters has a back story that adds to that foreshadowing! It's terrific! (^_^)
EDIT: Foreshadows. (Tehe!) Get it. With the blot too, and all. Shadows. Hehehe! And we got a frightened wayang bartender- ah life is good!
"Vara" Mjötviðra
(At work.^^)
I believe that was all in spoilers... Yeah, so everyone since the bracers don't give a bonus that stacks with my normal armor, I decided to sell the bracers of armor so we each can all split the gold! ^^

Just chiming in, I am new to this AP too. Just rolling with whatever comes up.
Concerning the TPK at the end of RotR, can you say Xanesha? The party ran after two had fallen. It was a great encounter for the GM. ;)
Varknarnost Kettlewidget
Exactly. In my case I had a mad dog barbarian gmpc with a raptor pet that got charmed and summarily pounded the rest of the party into pulp.
It was the first time I'd ever gmed and I only had a party of three. It was doomed from the start.
"Vara" Mjötviðra
>_> Oy. Looks like I got carried away with the lioness motif. Sorry everyone! I don't think Vara would be that awkward. That was just me doing something that I thought was neat that maybe was more over the top than I intended. <_<
