Hello everyone!
I am returning from my long absence, if you'll have me. Life has thrown multiple things at once at me, but I would like to continue with the game it you will have me.
I am still alive and well, and it appears so is Vara. I am thinking that she would probably attempt damage control, considering that she has been unarmored in this fight, and has used up most of her spells.

Thank you so much everyone! I feel so welcome and appreciated. :3
I love it how we have such camaraderie in this group!
I look forward to continuing the story and eventually killing drow with all of you! ;D

I think I'm going to wait until Nel's accusatory post (if she chooses to play it out that way) before spilling my guts about what happened with Zincher. Plus, I have quite a few PMs to sort through to gather up all that info, haha.
Wooh, level 3!

Varknarnost Kettlewidget |

Not much changed for Vark. Took Extra Performance (17 rds/day woot!) for my feat and obtained Inspire Competence. For spells I added Light and the nifty Liberating Command (don't say I never did anything for you!).

Also, as a reminder there's a loot spreadsheet on the "campaign info" tab.
Currently floating in party loot is:
+1 Cloak of Resistance (Korvosan Insignia - unless someone grabbed this?)
Masterwork Longsword
Banded Mail
+1 Amulet of Mighty Fists
Platinum and Silver Necklace (Art) worth 500 gp
2 Chainmail
2 Heavy Steel Shield
Longsword
3 Shortbow
60 shortbow arrows
81 gp
3 Shortswords
2 Studded Leather Armor
Wand of Shocking Grasp (8 charges)

Vara is taking a level in brawler!
Even though she kinda missed this last one, she has fought in all the other battles with her fists- even clobbered a snake up close! Also, her massage has kind of made her a better puncher too. Like many martial artists, her massage and fighting go hand in hand (ha! ;D). She does deep tissue, and often massages some clients by getting and walking on them. It feels good, honest! Anyway, she has developed the sensitivity for devastating and penetrating strikes.
So yeah, brawler.
Brawler 1st roll: 1d10 ⇒ 2 + 2 = 4
Brawler 2nd roll: 1d10 ⇒ 4 + 2 = 6
Vara would very much like the amulet of mighty fists. :3

Busy weekend so I probably won't be able to continue the heated discussion with Nel till Monday. Great stuff so far, though. It'll take some thought on exactly how Vark will respond to that last bit.

Alraniel "Nel" Sandhal |

Nel's late to the level up party:
Cavailer HP level 3: 1d10 ⇒ 10
Cavailer HP level 3: 1d10 ⇒ 6
EDIT Well, I guess she's late, but brings the extra punch!
Edit 2: Recapping Nel's changes from level 2 to 3
Hp went up by 13. Gained power attack as a feat. Put skill points in Diplomacy, Handle Animal, Knowledge Arcana, Linguistics, and Ride. Nel picked up Undercommon as a bonus language. Nel gained Cavalier's Charge, which gives her +4 to hit and no AC penalties when charging with Gabraltar.
Gabraltar changes from level 2 to 3
Gained Evasion, +2 to AC, +1 to STR/DEX, learned the Exclusive trick.

Pro hint: When you go to hide a campaign from one of your alias's it hides it in all of your alias's. I am posting here, in hopes that this will appear on the "my campaign" tag again...

If you wish to go in mounted, a combat-trained horse is only 110 GP and a combat-trained pony is 45 gp. The gear you need (saddles, bit and bridle, etc) total up to be 12 gp per animal.
As for checks, it's a DC 10 ride check to fight with a war-trained mount if you've also directed it to attack. If you're just sitting in the back of battle, it's a DC 5 ride check to have both hands free.
Something to think about!

Varknarnost Kettlewidget |

Vark will purchase a pony when he is filled in on the details of the plan. I will subtract it from his wealth in my Hero Lab. If I remember correctly he was also supposed to take the wand of shocking grasp or did we decide to sell it? In character Vark wouldn't want it, but it makes sense from a meta point of view.

Vara would be interested in having a mount. However, I was wondering what my chances of getting an elk for a mount from the forest would be? *Hopeful grin!* Would you allow a survival check and possibly a wild empathy or handle animal?
If it's not realistic, then she would maybe she can summon a mount for now, and then look for an elk for next time. I really like the idea of my druid riding an elk. (^_^)

Uh, well, it takes Nel and Tamiro (who have serious class features allowing this) a week to train a horse for combat. There's really no way you could train an elk in just a day. Looking at the handle animal skill, which I think is a good framework, it'll take 3 weeks to train an animal, but it assume that it's domesticated. It's a larger check to rear an animal to domesticity (which assumes you're starting with a baby and raising them to an adult - in this case, 6 to 8 years). Let me think on it, but it may be something that happens at later levels. It's cool, I must admit, but I'll have to figure out all the checks it'll take, since it'll be the equivalent in many of ways as also having an animal companion.

"Vara" Mjötviðra |

It makes sense that it would not be easy and take lot's of time to train an animal, especially a wild one, to be a combat mount. I probably wouldn't necessarily expect to take the mount into combat, at least not often, since being a mounted warrior isn't Vara's theme. The mount would mainly be a way to get around, out run or keep up with a swift enemy. Hmmm... I do wonder though what aid spells could provide to speed the process. There is a particular spell and feat combination that I would like to explore at much higher levels, if you would allow them, that would grant me an animal cohort of sorts!
So, if I don't expect a permanent companion, but for the purposes of having a mount for this one trip, how much would charm animal get me? Would I be able to ride an elk one-way, one-time into the forest, and maybe hitch a ride with a companion on the way back? Would a good empathy check allow for a one-time ride?
For some reason, I had thought the spell mount was on the druid list. It turns out that it is not, so unless there is some other way for the same, it looks like Vara will be going reluctantly to buy a mount after all. :3

Vara - The issue is a little less the "finding an elk and making it friendly" part and more the war-training part. Charm animal and a survival check will get you a elk to ride, but not one that's trained (so to command it will be full-round DC 25 Handle Animal checks, since it will need to be constantly pushed).
What spell/feat combo is that you're talking about? I don't know all of the books and I'm interested in seeing how it works!
Vark - Moving this over from the gameplay thread. In this case, yes, it's a moot point, since both DCs were higher than you would've gotten. In this case, I was using bluff since Vark was trying to get him to believe something that isn't true (i.e., I belong in the office because I was sent by Saul to get the thing). He's trying to bluff his way there, and I figured it was closer to the Bluff skill than diplomacy in that case.

"Vara" Mjötviðra |

Selected spells: magic fang, cure light and ray of sickening. Entangle is always prepared as my domain spell. I posted in my gameplay entry that I am keeping it simple, and if it's okay, I'm just buying a mount along with everyone else. >_> .... <_< For now....
The combination I am referencing is entirely from the Core: awaken and leadership! Turn an elk fully sentient and then recruit it as a cohort. :3 I would understand if you were to rule that as overpowered, but it would be a lot of fun to have elk mount with rage or alternatively, flurry of antlers. (^_^)

Varknarnost Kettlewidget |

OOC, obviously, but just so I'm understanding the scene correctly, a drow appears to be helping the party? Or by dark-skinned do you simply mean tanned?

Ugh, swarms and haunts - the bane of many ill-prepared low-level parties. :P
Slight RotRL spoilers...
The first time I GMed Pathfinder was for three friends running RotRL anniv. ed. They were a summoner, gunslinger, and ranger. When they got to Foxglove Manor in the second book, they had absolutely no way of harming the 9 billion haunts there. Talk about a string of rough sessions... And that is why my group hates haunts.

Pluck |

Ugh, swarms and haunts - the bane of many ill-prepared low-level parties. :P
That might include us! I see acid and alchemist's fire with Nel, but I think that's it. Pluck isn't an evoker so no burning hands from him. I probably could have justified having Pluck be smart enough to know about swarms from city life and have picked up some alchemist's fire, but didn't think of it :(
