Dungeon Kobold |
Farrukh slips on his other glasses and goes to work on the first lock.
Take 10 for a 30?
The lock clicks open.
This dark chamber is absolutely packed with harmless boxes and bookcases overflowing with ledgers and papers in no apparent order.
Farrukh Al'Khatel |
Farrukh makes as sure as he can that the room isn't dangerous before picking up a paper at random and seeing what it reads.
37 Perception, and if no danger, snatch a paper.
Dungeon Kobold |
Farrukh reads the paper.

Farrukh also finds a shiny, very thin ring of mithral that was dropped into one of the boxes, likely by accident.
Astraden Limhaare |
Astraden follows Farrukh and stands in the doorway. "Eben, can we get a little light in here?" she calls, picking up a sheaf of papers to look them over.
Farrukh Al'Khatel |

Farrukh picks up the ring, and reads the paper.
"Woah, this is interesting."
"Did you guys know you can make bank deposits by Sending now? Magic these days, man. Crazy stuff."
He shakes his head.
"Oh and uh, I found this."
Astraden Limhaare |
The Oeridian examines the ring. "That . . . reminds me of someone."
Appraise: Does it look like it came from her godfather's mail?: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Dungeon Kobold |
The Oeridian examines the ring. "That . . . reminds me of someone."
[dice=Appraise: Does it look like it came from her godfather's mail?]1d20+7
Astraden can't tell where the ring comes from.
Farrukh Al'Khatel |
Farrukh gives it a cursory inspection in case it has some distinguishing marks.
Perception: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (10) + 15 = 25
"Maybe it's magic? I'd have no idea."
Carina Viera |
Carina peeks over Astraden's shoulder at the ring. "Um..."
Appraise (Untrained): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
...and has absolutely no idea where it comes from, either.
"Sorry, I don't know what's up with it either."
Astraden Limhaare |
"Oh, I guess I can check for that," Astraden says, picking the ring up and pulling her fingers across her eyes. Switching to Flan, she mutters, "Ilmestys," and holds the ring up to her ear.
Detect magic.

Detect magic.
No magic.
Dungeon Kobold |
Finally managed to update the map, not that there's much to add..
Dungeon Kobold |
This chamber is littered with loose stones and dust. It contains a decrepit ladder leading up to a platform level with the catwalk.
Dungeon Kobold |
Also, guys, even if you don't have anything to say, try to keep your PCs relatively up-to-date on the map. It would've mattered for the pit trap, and may matter in the future. Just a semi-regular checkup is nice.
Carina Viera |
Carina trails behind Farrukh, trying not to get in his way as he canvasses the area.
Cuetzpalli |
Damn y'all post a lot when I'm sleeping sometimes.
Cuetzpalli follows the others into the center of the room and waits for Farrukh to finish scouting the place. He scrutinizes the objects in the warehouse closely, in case any of them start moving.
Dungeon Kobold |
Farrukh reaches up and grasps the ladder rung. Instantly, the slayer knows he's made a mistake as the rung breaks apart in his hands, causing the whole apparatus to shake...and collapse.
Debris comes tumbling down from what remains of the large wooden ladder onto the heads of the three.
Reflex saves from Carina, Cuetzpalli and Farrukh.
Carina Viera |
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Carina manages to avoid the worst of the ladder falling on her head. When all is said and done, she only has a bruise on her cheek as a result.
"Um... oops?" She sheepishly scratches her head.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |
Tanith curses when the ladder comes apart and rains down on the party.
"Everyone okay?"
Astraden Limhaare |
Earlier: "Yep, no magic. I'll hold onto it for now," says Astraden, tucking the ring into a pocket in her backpack.
---
Astraden hears the racket and looks up from the papers. "What was that!?"
KC, could I get a synopsis of the subject of the forms and stuff in this second room? The general gist?
Farrukh Al'Khatel |
Reflex: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31
Farrukh looks annoyed as the ladder falls apart unexpectedly.
"Damn. Left my grappling hook in Diamond Lake, too."
Does the wall look climbable?
Eben MacTeague |
Astraden follows Farrukh and stands in the doorway. "Eben, can we get a little light in here?" she calls, picking up a sheaf of papers to look them over.
Happy to be of service, Eben brings his artistic set of lights down into the room to hover over Astraden and Farrukh's shoulders, providing excellent reading light. Until, that is, about six seconds later when the lights wink out, their one minute duration having expired. Grumbling, he recasts the spell.
Damn y'all post a lot when I'm sleeping sometimes.
Or when I'm at work. Ah, the heartbreak of having a freakish night schedule...
He lingers behind, giving Astraden her requested light while the others move on to the next room. The sounds of a ladder collapsing on everyone's head brings him to the doorway, though. "Oh. Well, at least that's better than a doppelganger ladder..."
Farrukh looks annoyed as the ladder falls apart unexpectedly.
"Damn. Left my grappling hook in Diamond Lake, too."
"Well, what about that magic climbing rope you guys found back in the Ebon Triad's shrine?"
Just sayin'... it's been lingering on the loot sheet as a group item for ages...
Dungeon Kobold |
Astraden follows Farrukh and stands in the doorway. "Eben, can we get a little light in here?" she calls, picking up a sheaf of papers to look them over.
Again, the whole place is generally lit with torches up above unless stated otherwise.
Farrukh looks annoyed as the ladder falls apart unexpectedly.
"Damn. Left my grappling hook in Diamond Lake, too."
Does the wall look climbable?
The wall looks reasonably climbable, given a boost and perhaps a few tries. DC 25.
Astraden Linguistics: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Astraden spends ten minutes poring over the documents. These papers detail several businesses that ran in this building, the latest of which went out of business roughly ten years ago. They look to have been thrown in here with no particular regard to organization, and it's very difficult to make sense of them.
The most recent paper Astraden is able to find indicates that the previous owners sold the building to one "Gattel Watam". There are no papers documenting his business, whatever it is or was.
Dungeon Kobold |
A 60-foot-long rope of climbing is no thicker than a wand, but it is strong enough to support 3,000 pounds. Upon command, the rope snakes forward, upward, downward, or in any other direction at 10 feet per round, attaching itself securely wherever its owner desires. It can unfasten itself and return in the same manner.
A rope of climbing can be commanded to knot or unknot itself. This causes large knots to appear at 1-foot intervals along the rope. Knotting shortens the rope to a 50-foot length until the knots are untied, but lowers the DC of Climb checks while using it by 10. A creature must hold one end of the rope when its magic is invoked.
Dungeon Kobold |
Whether Farrukh ascends through magic or wall-stabbing, he's ultimately able to make it up. The door proves to be unlocked.
Cuetzpalli |
Reflex save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Cuetzpalli gets whacked with a piece of wood, but it doesn't do much to him.
Eben MacTeague |
Hey, are there any more crates & barrels in the main room post-mimic attack? If so, Eben will go poke around them (avoiding the trapped area) while Astraden reads and Farrukh climbs.
Dungeon Kobold |
Eben doesn't find much of interest—a crate full of what look like very old plum pits, a box of netting, and a barrel of a fairly strong-tasting sour alcoholic drink.
Carina Viera |
Tanith curses when the ladder comes apart and rains down on the party.
"Everyone okay?"
Carina rubs the bruise on her cheek. "I'm okay, Tanith--the ladder was just in serious need of repair, that's all."
Dungeon Kobold |
I hate to split hairs, but assuming Carina has shield other up as usual, she'd have taken about zero damage. :P
Astraden Limhaare |
I assume I'm still out of commission in terms of reading. Or could I leave off where I am now and come back to it later?
Dungeon Kobold |
The ten minutes pass, as Farrukh determines that the northern door along the catwalk is also untrapped. He picks the lock with the same ease.
Astraden Limhaare |
Having finished in spite of the interruption, Astraden comes back out of the storage room. Holding one of the papers, she says, "Apparently someone named Gattel Watam was the most recent owner of this building. Eben, do you know anyone by that name?"
Coming around the wall of boxes, she sees the devastated ladder. "Huh. Farrukh, are you carrying bricks around in your pack?"

Coming around the wall of boxes, she sees the devastated ladder. "Huh. Farrukh, are you carrying bricks around in your pack?"
"Nah. Just rope, needle, thread, lanterns, oil, a whistle, flint, my spare mug, candles, chalk, torches, tindertwig, a hammer, and those pitons."
"Not much, really. I didn't want to over pack."
Dungeon Kobold |
Waiting for someone to make a move. Time to head for the last door?
Farrukh Al'Khatel |
You mean the trapped one? There's no door on the map for the rafters level.
Farrukh heads to the last available door then.
"Everyone stay back in case I royally screw this up."
He makes his way down his pitons and works his way to the last door, then disables the trap as carefully as he's able.
Disable Device: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (16) + 21 = 37
Eben MacTeague |
Eben cocks his head to the side, scrunches up his brow, and mutters to himself, "Gattel Wattam? Hmmm..."
Knowledge (Local): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
After a long, long pause, he says, "Stupid name, anyway."
Astraden Limhaare |
"If your spare mug is in your pack, then where is your usual mug?" Astraden asks, moving to the edge of the region Farrukh indicated.

"I wish I knew. I used to have one that read 'World's Greatest Hunter' but I lost it a few days before we met up. I still feel sad sometimes."
