It has been more than a century since Mylosis fell to the disgraces of hell. The events that followed unleashed a tide of hellspawn and other disgraces upon the Western Realm. The land is in a time of crucial flux, and the reigns of freedom are being seized by our intrepid heroes.

"So yeah, you're here to get saved, after all. Just take what you need, kiddo." He turns to the old elf and lowers his voice, trying not to be overheard. "This is not the best place to raise children, and you know that, don't you?"
Chezarion and Tessandriel,
There are many trees, buildings and homes that could make for a stealthy approach. It seems that most if not all of these buildings are vacant at the moment.
You both keep a sharp lookout, and there is nothing more of note.
Roland,
The elf dips his head to you in deference. The young one claps and smiles widely. She grabs an empty sack from your wagon and places a few potatoes inside. She says, "Thank you so much, it means a lot to us both." The two of them begin to walk away, and child keeps turning back and waving. The pair are almost lost among the crowd when you hear the child's high pitched voice cut through the noise of the market, "Come now Walker, lets go find us a pot to boil these in. Golly, am I hungry!"

His discarded suspicious suddenly gets alive and confirmed, and Roland mutters under his breath to no one but himself to hear it. "Who in seven hells said Walker was a human!"
He looks at the wizard beside him, keeping his voice low and trying to control his urge to rush after him. "After them Catcher! I'll get the old Gromff!"
Still keeping an eye on their cargo, he opens the door to the Inn searching for the disguised dwarf, and calls him outside.
The wizard is already running when Roland urge her to go after the pair.
She runs at top of her sleep and reach then breathless.
”Hey! Wait!” she calls after them.
”Little one, you never told me your name!” she says to the little girl.
To the elf, she says ”We’ve been looking for you. My name is Catcher;” she will show the Dwarf ring ”I’m sorry we are late. Can you please come with me? I’ll explain everything later. We’re running against time.”
The elf child says "My name is Aersensi. This is Walker."
Walker looks at Tylz' ring in Catchers hands and his eyes flash with recognition for a brief moment, then he shows a look of confusion and deep thought.
The girl then says "Oh, so you're the ones I've been looking for? Okay then, let's go talk. Where shall we go?"
”Hello Aersensi, hello Walker.” says Cather to both.
”I’ve got a pot, I may know how to boil, but since we are here, let’s go eat at the Honeymead Inn! Pretty girls like you should never go hungry!” says the mage extending her arms, offering to carry the girl.
”Why you said you’re looking for us, Aersensi?” the young woman asks the child while they head back in the Roland’s direction.
As Catcher, Roland, Gromff, Aersensi, and Walker head back to the Honeypot for a table and conversation, Tessandriel and Chezarion make their way back from the lonely quiet zone south of Mainstreet, now that they've completed their scouting.
20 more minutes have gone by. Gromff's illusion has 1 hour and 10 minutes left.
You find a corner table that looks like you could have a fairly private discussion. With the group all together again, I am going to assume that you all share information with one another. Please correct me if I am wrong. Everyone is now aware of the blacksmith building being guarded, the carrion pit with the hellhound, the assumption that Tylz was killed, and that you are sharing a table with your quarry--- Walker. Your previous information from Meldara was that Walker was an old human man, yet this elf who sits before you doesn't appear to be old at all.
Aersensi says "Walker and I look after each other. We're the best of friends!...though I've only known him for a few days." She gets a shrewd appraising look about her, "You all don't seem like the bad guys, so you must be the ones who are meant to find us. It is a pretty town here, but I think we're ready to leave. Are you going to help Walker?
After bits of conversation, you now believe she was looking for you because she expected you... but she is never really clear about how she knew to expect you. She dodges the question or skirts around it skillfully. In one final bit of illuminating discussion she reveals that "Yes, Walker is human. I have this illusion on him to keep him safe for now, since he's on the run from Karaxa's and Grolmgor's thugs. -That's where he lost his foot!" She then whispers..."He seems a bit...befuddled... but he barely even noticed that his leg was bleeding so much. When I pointed the wound out to him, he simply waved his hand and it healed over--snap!--just like that! He is really special."

Sorry for the hiatus. On vacation, and a phone, and spotty connection. Posts will be short and uninspieed till saturday. Assume i am still a dwarf that looks like am old man that acts like a dwarf. I can't think of anything to add to the current conversation except asking the fate of Tylz from the girl who appears to be Walkers's mouth for now.
No need to apologize Gromff. I hope you're having fun on vacation!
To Gromff, Aersensi says "Tylz? I heard Walker say that name in his sleep!...but I don't know who that person is."
To Chezarion, she says, "I don't know elven, but it sure is pretty. Can you teach me?"
You sense no deception or malice from her. She appears to be forthcoming and honest. You perceive nothing particularly out of the ordinary except for her hair. It is unheard of for an elf to have hair of pure gold appearance --- much less to be mixed with the rare silvery hair that she has.
”We’ll leave shortly Aersensi, but we need to find Tylz backpack first.” she looks to Chez and says ”That forge, they may have taken it there.”
Slowly and quietly, Catcher will cast detect magic and inspect the surrounds then she looks around and say ”I need to confirm something, give me some seconds.” If nothing to suspicious, as maybe a illusion aura, flying near us can be found, she’ll says the words bellow.
k:Arcana:1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
”We can teach you many things. You know, I’ll be a magical sword-woman someday. You said you used magic to turn Walker into an elf. Can you do it again? But this time making some of us look like guards? That would allow us to investigate the forge, and then we would be able to leave faster.”

Regardless of anything else, Chezarion can't help but be somewhat suspicious of an "elf" who can't speak elven.
Chezarion says, "Our time is running out. One way or another we need to get out of here. We might want to pack the wagon and head for the south gate, finalizing our plans en route."

"But we really need those notes... and it doesn't sound much like a hard task, getting in and out. Decide what you want to do, and let's move to catch up later. We need the notes, and to get out of here without being noticed. Gromff doesn't need to go inside the barrel, but we can buy some kind of fertilizer to put in the place of the potatoes, and hide the girl inside." Roland scratches his head and once again comes back to the subject. "If you need a diversion to get to that house, I might provide you some." It's not hard to guess what he's thinking about...

Chezarion comments "There's not too much to it. Two guards outside, an imp inside. One option is to just roll up in the wagon, and everybody except Catcher and our guests dog piles them. Pick the lock or break the door down, take out the imp and whoever else needs to get pounded on, search and then leave. Once we hit the forge our time is limited and we will have to leave as fast as we can without being too obvious."

Chezarion says, "That is a potential problem. We could hold one melee person in reserve physically blocking the doorway with Catcher to back them up telling them where the imp is. It's not a perfect solution, but we have limited planning time. If someone has a better idea let's hear it."
”Chezarion, I hope you understand when I say that magical detection is not really effective in combat. It only works after some precious seconds, and all effort is wasted if the magical source keeps moving.”

"I have an idea. I go there to return the favor to that freaking devil, and I bet half the city will come after the responsible. Meanwhile, you will have a more easier task, and probably Meldara also will."
”No way Roland. You don’t have to prove anything, to nobody. Doing that will only get you captured, worse, killed. That considering the devil is still sleeping and that you can get to it while it sleeps. If he is awaken, then only with everybody else help you have hope of defeating it. And if they are organized, that may not even make the guards leave their posts.” she shakes her head ”Too much to risk, too little to gain.”

Roland smiles with so much concern with his safety, while he doesn't think a big deal of it, in times. "The point is not to prove anything. I'll be lowering their numbers and putting some fear on their hearths, while at the same time serving as a distraction for a greater goal, saving Walker and the girl, plus getting the notes. If it's not sleeping I'll come back. If it awakes mid-approach I'll run. And I can run pretty fast, trust me. I've killed enemies this way several times, so you shouldn't worry that much about it." He scratches his chin, again. "After that the only problem is that I probably will have to abandon my weapon. But sneaking out shouldn't be a problem, specially if no one saw who did it, or keep their mouths shut, which is usually the case."
"And I don't think the guards will abandon their posts, no, but only the flying units and maybe that devilish woman will go check what happened. Then it's time for you to move. I may even be able to circle around town and meet you there."

Chezarion says, "I have to agree with Catcher. Besides, we found out last time that those imps can be a handful. If the little pest casts the wrong spell before we can close it can potentially take two of us out of action. With you someplace else that leaves only one person to engage the imp and then it could get away. I see too much risk and too little benefit to letting you have your side excursion. There are more than enough devils running around as it is. You'll get your shot at one eventually when it makes sense to do so."

Roland eyes Chezarion with a harsh look, but after a few seconds his expression softens, and he agrees with the chosen path. "Then let's go and get these notes, so we can get out of here."
He pulls the mule and their cart in that direction.
couple of things,
-Catcher is correct about her ability to hone in on an invisible target, with detect magic. At best, if the invisible creature stood still, she would need to concentrate for multiple rounds and then have a chance to pinpoint it.
-The imp that Chezarion saw was outside the building, just like the guards. The guards flank the door, and the imp's tail(which I'll remind is all that was actually seen) was sticking out of the cold forge near the anvil and workbenches--all of which are outside.
-Roland, regarding your request for an updated map, I see where you're coming from but I am going to decline for a couple of reasons. You're in an unfamiliar town, so providing a map here would be giving away too much. The available "map" was a simple drawing in the mud by Meldara, and it was meant to be minimal.
”We can teach you many things. You know, I’ll be a magical sword-woman someday. You said you used magic to turn Walker into an elf. Can you do it again? But this time making some of us look like guards? That would allow us to investigate the forge, and then we would be able to leave faster.”
"Ooh that sounds like fun! I can try, but I don't know what will happen."
Catcher you do not see any indication of invisibility nearby. You do detect illusion magic covering Walker, but this aura is almost completely obscured by nearly overwhelming auras of transmutation and enchantment on Aersensi.
Male Elf Rogue 2|AC 16, Touch 14, FF 13| HP 17/17 | Fort +1, Ref +6, Will +0 | Init +3 |Senses Low light vision | Perception +7/+8 vs traps
My bad then. I thought that the imp was inside the building with his tail sticking out. Knowing that he's outside the building puts a different spin on it. Hmmm. Let me think on this.
”Who are you? What are you?” the mage says surprised.
After some more moments, she gets back to herself and asks ”What could happen when you try to use your magic?”

I still don't see too many choices. Probably best if Tessandriel and I scout the forge just shortly before the wagon gets there. If the imp is still outside and we can get to within 30 feet of it we can try to take it out as Gromff and Roland hammer the guards out front. If it appears to have gone then Tessandriel and I join Gromff and Roland in pounding the guards. But for right now let's see how our guest replies to Catcher.

Jeez guys. I go to bed with 1 update and wake up to see 17.
I think ye're all missin something. Im itchin for a fight as much as the next person but i ain't too keen to take on a whole town. Specially not an ogre, a hellhound, and a bearded devil. Sometimes the best plan is to fall back to a new one. Get walker out first. He IS the noted we're lookin for. Somebody in ashvale has to have some mind magic to help us get the knowledge from his head. Only problem is the imp that showed up on the way in. If'n its there we might have a problem. "
”We can’t do only that. Sometimes I think I’m the only one thinking in a bigger picture here. We can save the walker now, it avails us nothing if the dwarf notes fall in their hands. We don’t know what’s in there. Too much of a risk to allow it go unchecked. ”

Chezarion says, "I concede that going for the notes is risky, but I think we have a reasonable chance of doing it. Unless there is a very powerful and highly skilled cleric available in Archdale it could be very hard to find out what Walker knows. Getting the notes could save us a lot of time."

"Besides, leaving with Walker, the girl and the kids that Meldara is rescuing will certainly make them more careful for the next time, and we are already pretty much marked. "Do tell, why is it that you see a picture that somehow eludes everyone else? We have different perspectives, and you would do well to remember that seeing something differently does not make it good or bad, just an alternate way of seeing things."
Looking over at Roland:
"Roland, I agree. We need to quickly come to a course of action and do it. We are short on time and should act with swift precision."
Catcher gives Tessa a flat look and tries to decide if is worth explain the situation, after a few seconds she says pretending to be Meldara
”Tylz kept logs of his journeys, bits of lore, and he certainly will have kept record of anything important Walker had to say. It is imperative that we find those men, or at the very least, Tylz' logs.”
With a petulant look she continues ”Trapped inside of his head are secrets and knowledge that could shift the balance of power back to mortal folk once again.”

Archdale is over a hundred miles from Sojourn, mostly northbound, FYI
A gray housecat saunters into the Inn. It walks directly to the table where you all are seated, and hops up deftly onto your tabletop. It meows, then decides to lay down next to your food and drink, tucking its legs comfortably underneath its body. You hear it purring contentedly.
There is a small scroll tied around its neck.
Scroll:
I hope you have found your quarries. I have determined that the...sheep have been removed from their pen and are being...herded northwards. Their shepherd is now in pursuit.

Recruiting is now open! I invite you to read through the spoiler tabs in the Campaign Info tab for details.
I plan on keep recruitment open for as long as necessary, be it 2 days or 2 weeks.
This Game:
Homebrew setting, Pathfinder rules. Looking for 4-6 players. Pathfinder/Golarion Pantheon primarily but the heavens are vast... If you prefer a deity from another edition of D&D of from other sources, run it by me and I'll probably OK it.
I expect the standard 1 post per weekday, but I would prefer more, to keep the game moving. If 1 post/day is what you can muster, that is fine.
Character Creation:
Basics: 20 Point buy. 250 GP starting wealth. No evil alignments.
Classes, Races, Feats, Spells: Core Rulebook, Advanced Player Guide only. *One exception. I will allow tieflings as they directly tie into the theme of the campaign. If you choose tiefling as a race in this campaign, you must be Good-aligned. That's my only caveat. I will likely not pick more than one tiefling PC unless I'm really feeling generous. I really prefer the classic feel to my games, so I prefer sticking close to core.
Class archetypes and racial feature swaps: APG only.
Background Story: I'm big on flavor. I want a background story in your profile and I want it to make me either laugh, cry, or go "hell ya!" It doesn't have to be ultra long, just make it count for something.
Take a look at the "Factions of Note" spoiler, it will help with understanding your place in this land. All the players will be unofficial members of the Consortium of Light. As it is more or less a motley crew of heroes, your backgrounds can be as varied as you want. Feel free to make up town/city names, we might could revisit those places later if the story arc takes us there.
I probably won't posting much this weekend because of the holiday, so forgive me if there is a lull.
You seem to be a dedicated GM that puts pride and effort into his work. I have a few character concepts I'm interested in. I assume we start at level one?
Dotting for interest. Quick question, do you have a problem with summoners? A lot of DMs do so before I consider submitting a Summoner I'd like to know your feelings on them.
1) yes this will start at level 1
2) re: summoners, I'm not certain yet. I see on these forums many GMs who ban them but I'm not familiar enough with the system to know why. I will make a decision on summoners very soon, and I'll leave a message here in the recruitment thread (and update the character creation)
3)Traits- yes, I forgot to mention traits. You may choose 2 traits from the APG(different types of traits, no two from the same category).
Aku, I see your PM, I will get back to you when I've read it in full, probably later tonight after work.
Summoners are often unwelcome because they have a tendency to bog down the game with lots of summoned creatures. This probably isn't a big deal in a pbp due to the slower pace.
Many people say to avoid Eidolons however since its easy to misinterpret the rules in a game breaking way.
Your campaign sounds interesting by the way. I'll post a couple of character concepts later.
Throwing my hat in the ring here. This character was originally drawn up for another campaign so I will rewrite him to fit in with this one. He's pretty much a "vanilla" elven rogue with lots of skills including Use Magic Device and Survival.
Sounds fun. I always love darker, fighting the apocalypse style games. If you need any additional inspiration, the Midnight setting by Fantasy Flight games was really good.
FYI While I am very experienced in gaming and with pathfinder in particular, I am moderately new to pbp. Think I have things figured out. Of course, saying this seems to have lost me a spot in a pbp AP I was really wanting to play in, but <shrug> rather be honest.
I would see playing as a wandering monk of Erastil(zen archer sounds good) that quietly works to help those that still hold good in their hearts. A poor farmer offers a wanderer a place to sleep in his barn, he may find one of his chickens has layed a pouch of money. A noble\merchant kicks him out for asking for a drink from his well, may find that his coffers weren't as full as he thought.
No armor, no weapons beyond a bow for hunting, who would possibly think he is anything more than a peasant? Always a loner before, he now is having dreams that tell him he will need to join with a greater community if the Armies of Sin are going to be dealt with.
I am probably ok with most of what is on that page. I'm on lunch break, so I don't have time to read it all.
For now consider it tentative. If you have a specific couple/few archetypes/racial bonuses you have in mind, run them by me.
Doomguide wrote:

I too am new to PbP Doomguide. This will be my first GMing PbP, so being new to this or having oodles of experience will not affect my decision in any fashion.
I would like to make a half-elf ranger (wild shadow). The archetype is under the half-elf. The character I want to use is Tessandriel Mithlynnta. I used her in another game. With some reasonable alterations to her level, background, traits, and gear I think I will be able to fit her easily into the theme of the game. I will be dropping the suspicious trait and the paranoid drawback.
How are racial relations with being drow-like? Or are there no such prejudices? If it comes down to it I am willing to rewrite the background entirely. Doesn't bother me if I need to.

I will say that my concept character for the summoner is intrinsically tied to her Eidolon and to be honest, I'd much rather trade away the Summon Monster class feature for something more combat oriented like a Cavalier order or Barbarian rage or something. As a DM myself, I too hate flooding battlefields with summoned monsters and bogging down combat. :)
As for the Eidolon itself, I have a campaigns worth of experience with the Eidolon and how its built and how its rules work. I can't say that mistakes wont be made, but they shouldn't be big game breaking ones.
Not sure if you'll allow variant tiefling heritages but if you do I'd like to present for your consideration Mr Kincaid. Crunch is in his profile.
Background:
The tavern is almost full tonight, the sounds of music and laughter mixing with the heady aroma of ale and tobacco.
You look around, there's no where to sit apart from next to the one figure everyone is studiously ignoring. The 6'6" heavily cloaked stranger. Apart from drink and chain smoke cigars, he's not done anything overt to draw attention but you can't help feel there's something off about him. Time and again, without realizing you find you eye drawn to him like a moth to a flame.
Perhaps you've had more to drink than you realize because you find yourself take a seat by him. For long moment nothing happens, perhaps he hasn't noticed? Suddenly with a start you notice the ruddy light of a cigar glinting like coals from the strangers eyes with all other features hidden by shadow. Were those eyes slitted? No surely not, no one had slitted eyes!
A plume of fragrant smoke envelops you and he laughs a deep gravely laugh, borne of gin and cigars, "The smoke bothering you? Ha! They say these things will kill me!"
He pauses to consider the cigar before saying, "I should be so lucky. My death will be at the hands of something much, much worse. More than likely something a little closer to home..."
A brief waft of brimstone and then it's gone. The stranger continues, "Lets just say I burnt my bridges with home and I'm persona non gratis... How did that happen you ask?" The stranger produces two shot glasses, bangs them the table and pushes one your way, "Gin. If you're buying, I'm telling."
You catch the bartender's eye and with a worried glance he hands you a full bottle, which you pour out. The stranger watches you drink, and you shudder as the bitter liquid burns your throat. He grins and downs his shot in one before pouring another.
"When I say I burnt my bridges, that wasn't technically true. They burnt the bridge while I was in it. A corporate take over, nothing personal, it's just business when somebody liquidates the former CEO's family. Something snagged me on the way down, my brothers and sisters were not so lucky. Oh don't be sorry for me, they almost certainly deserved it. I know I did, you see I was destined to follow in my father's shoes and my father is not a nice man. And before it was taken away, my father's business was not a nice business.
It's funny how you imagine you'll grow up doing one thing and end up doing something entirely different. In my case I had a epiphany, that I was going to die. It's the sort of thing that comes to you after you've been hanging by your ankles for two days and a night over a deep gorge and at first I thought it terribly unfair, then by degrees it came to me that I truly deserved it, and death was a release. Eventually something gave way, I fell and all was darkness for a time.
Later, half drowned, I was pulled out of the river by a holy man. I think he nearly killed me when I opened my eyes, for he drew back like he'd been bitten and in a blur, his sword surrounded by a luminous blue light, was digging into my throat. Yet something stayed his hand, he stared at me for a long while before sheathing that sword and half carrying, half dragging me back to his mountain hut. And there I remained for many a year, until I understood the real meaning of a single, very particular word. And that word was "Mercy'. It changed everything..."
Description:
From a distance Kincaid, could pass for a tall well muscled holy man with a simple monk's habit, wreathed in cigar smoke. A closer inspection reveals the holy symbol of Sarenrae and a giant axe slung over his shoulders, with several other weapons hidden within the folds of his hessian cloak. Kincaid's tainted heritage becomes shockingly clear when he lifts up his hood, for two shorn off horns decorate his ruddy scalp, and his eyes are at once both human and reptilian. Yet despite his shocking appearance and deep gravely voice, the world brightens when he laughs and his eyes are full of humor and kindness.
I have decided against allowing Summoners. I am not that familiar with them, and I don't particularly like the flavor of the class for this campaign.
I'm adding a couple of house-rules to the campaign info tab. I'll place them here for convenience.
House Rules:
1)XP I don't use XP. It is pointless busy work that takes up my time, when then end result is the players would accumulate enough to level up every so often. I will arbitrarily level you up, every so often.
2) Hit Points Max HP at lvl 1. At level up roll as normal, but take a minimum of half your hit die if you roll low.
3) Crits A natural 20 is an auto-confirm crit, unless your opponent is 2+ HD more than you. The idea is to make natural 20s more exciting when your in combat with an opponent that is about your level or lower.
DFang-- two traits, from APG. Equipment, like everything else needs to be limited to the CRB and APG. If there is something specific you want from another source, I'll take a look.
Kincaid-- your character looks pretty solid. I looked over the variant Tiefling heritages, and the only one that makes sense in this campaign is the Hellspawn. If you would like to choose that, I am okaying it.
Grand Moff Vixen-- Drow traits are a no-go. As far as the half-elven archetype Wild Shadow, it looks fine.
Finished rewriting him for this campaign. Hopefully I got the timing of things right. Let me know if that isn't so and I will change things as needed.
Looks pretty sweet Chezarion. Only problem I'm seeing is your traits. It looks like you have 3-
sacred touch, poverty stricken, and lightbringer
None of them are from the APG (which I suppose I can be flexible with) but more importantly the Lightbringer in your profile is quite a bit more powerful than the Lightbringer that I found.
I'm ok with any 2 of the 3 you picked, but if you pick lightbringer it must match the one in my link above.
I like your backstory. Side-note, this PBP campaign is taking place about 100 years in the future of my current home campaign. The scene in Mylosis played out during our game, and there was chaos in the streets. Your backstory reminded me of that game session!
Both look good, both fit the campaign, both need some work before approval. (see above)
I'm looking forward to the final drafts, and looking forward to more submissions.
I have decided to scrap the current character I posted and write up a whole new background for this ranger. I have some new ideas that I think would work better. I will work on it and post an update as soon as I have more.
Chezarion, how do you feel about your father having fled, survived, and remarried in a different area that was unknown to the both of you? He would train another child as a ranger, and we could come up with a way in game that would allow us to realize we have the same father.

The lightbringer trait that I'm using is an alternate racial trait for elves that comes out of the "elves" race section of the APG. It replaces the elven magic and elven immunities racial traits.
The other traits of sacred touch and poverty stricken come from the "Character Traits Web Enhancement". I thought that was pretty much included verbatim in the APG when that came out. I'll double check the PRD here to make sure.
And after double checking the PRD they're both there. In the APG under the "New Rules" section under the heading of Basic traits, further broken down into subsections, combat, faith, Magic and social. Sacred touch is a faith trait and poverty stricken is a social trait.

What do you think?
That could work. It would mean that my Mom is dead though [boo hoo :-(]. It also leaves open the question of why Dad didn't try to track me down. You also need to consider your character's age. Chezarion is 130 years old. If your character is another elf then she shouldn't be any younger than about 116. If she's a half elf then she can be a lot younger though.
As to figuring out the relationship, one of the easier ways to do that would be to say that the dagger Chezarion's father gave him was one of a specially commissioned matched set. It's the dagger that Chezarion is currently wearing openly on the center front of his weapon belt. Your character has the other dagger.
re: Lightbringer, you are correct, my misunderstanding.
re: other two traits-- They're not in my hardcopy of APG, so I didn't recognize them as such. That said, I am ok with both. They are a good fit for your story. (the name poverty-stricken is a misnomer, it is just a place keeper for your father's influence)
Dotting in too. Not sure if I want to use a character I already have or come up with something new. Lot of stuff to work with here. Should be fun.
*edit I am thinking an Oracle (Bones) or Cleric (Undead Lord) of Anubis or similar deity if you can think of one. He watches over the souls of the dead much like his deity but because of the current upheaval in the underworld and the enormous amount of souls in fluctuation he is sent to help.
Gonna spend some more time developing the background, but I'm trying to decide between a rebellious young sorcerer who grew up in Maiden's Wharf and is trying to do the right thing or a druid of the Perfect Circle that survived in the woods after his town was conquered.

As for why dad didn't try to track you down, he thought you died. It looked like you darted into a building to escape and a few seconds afterward the house exploded into flames.
He would not have remarried immediately. Eventually he did and had another child, a half-elven child. She would be trained as a ranger. I have not decided if he taught her about Desna in memory of his lost wife. Do you have any other ideas on why dad would think you dead?
Do you have any other ideas on why dad would think you dead?
There are other possibilities too. Think of all the variables in warzone. The father might have:
-been a POW
-been severely injured, unable to pursue
-been enslaved
-been charmed/magicked
In the chaos of a war-torn countryside, maybe it was less that he thought Chezarion dead, but more that he simply didn't have the means to find him. As the weeks, months, years went on, the leads grew colder and the two men drifted farther apart.
”Stupid kid” - called the fiend-like human, in a weird accent. Roland could not complain about it, laying there on the ground with his jaw aching from the punch he just received. He was indeed stupid, or mad, or both, cause no human from Tarlof would dare face the constant hellspawn that raided and charged taxes from the surrounding farms. Especially when armed only with a stick. Especially when being a 7-year-old human child. Pathetic, really. But that kid was raised like a slave, with no toys or friends to play with, no family to comfort or advise him. There were demons and devils, thieves and scoundrel. And a lot of job to do, carrying stuff and trying to breed animals for the hordes of hell. He had nothing to lose, mind you, aside from his life, which was not worth much either.
So one day he rose up to the challenge, took the weapons he had and proceeded to start a revolution! He approached the enemies with a murderous intent, using the shadows to conceal his presence. When close to the leader of a little hellish group, he lifted his weapon high summoning all his strength and.... Yes, he took a beating he would probably never forget. What were you expecting? A god-like child? The punches and kicks he received came out of the freaking nowhere, or so he imagined. ”How fast!” thought Roland. In his perception they were like speed itself! But we know they were just normal hell-spawn, which cannot be compared to a kid, right?
Anyway, they pitied him, and made fun of the child for a long time, but they let little Roland live, fun as he was to them. His wounds healed after a couple days, since they were not too harsh (or otherwise he could not work for the hordes). But although he should have learned his lesson, he rose up again, took his stick, and tried again. Man, do you imagine how crazy can a kid be to try that again? Roland once again took some farming tools and tried the same ambush, watchful for his flanks now. Once again he was about to kill that m$!**+*#@!$!, and then…. surprise!! He took another beating!
But after a couple more days he was there again, failing again! The boss of that little group, Baltazar, started enjoying the kid's futile acts, so much that he thought about inviting him in. But Roland would not hear about it, for his own sake. ”We will teach you how to fight, kid!" - screamed one of the soldiers while punching him - "We are strong, you can also be!" - called another - "We will beat your soul out of your body if you don’t!” Trust me, they could be pretty convincing, but we’re not talking about a regular person. This kid was as obstinate as one could get, and his futile tries eventually got known around the region, giving him some (lame) fame. After some time the soldiers of hell brought their own spawn to give little Roland a beating, making a show out of it!
Roland realized that, although he was getting tougher, his plan was getting nowhere. There were too many for him to have a real chance, and of course he didn't have the surprise element anymore, thus it would be better to seek new targets. And so he did. Finding a lone thief sleeping inside a cave, he approached silently. Now you’re mine! – he thought. But when he brought his fork down on the victim, the body was not there anymore, and Roland did not see the kick that drove him out of his balance, nor the other one who pushed his weapon away. He only saw the steel coming for his head. It was the end for him, he knew. But the sword stopped midair, and the wielder made a funny face toward him. ”You’re the stupid kid they are talking about, aren't you?” Roland escaped from this event without injuries, and he even got a nice rusted longsword, that by the time was way too big for his small hands. But it was a real weapon. One he would use to kill Baltazar! And thus he approached the tiefling, ready to shower death over the poor hell-spawn!
Of course he failed, again, and took another beating, but it didn't prevent him from trying again, searching new targets around the place. He failed over and over and over, and survived by a combination of fame, pity, luck and determination, which was, to say the list, certainly the work of fate. But one day the scenario would change. His first kill he made at the age of 11, and it only increased his hope to succeed in the ridiculous task of freeing the land from those creatures. At the age of 13 he had several kills to boast off, but as he became a real threat some folks found him. ”It’s time to put and end to your little shows, stupid.” A feeling of dreadful desperation took hold of Roland, and he realized in an instant how lucky he was to be alive up to that moment. He could not throw that away, and he was no match to Baltazar and his gang. But he could run, and much faster than those weak and undertrained bandits. It was not easy to escape from them, but once again luck guided him, and for days he traveled east to get into a place where he could be safe.
And this is pretty much the story of Roland, the kid who dared to challenge the hordes of hell, without fully knowing what it represented. Of course, stupid and all, but his lack of wits was his salvation, and he learned his lesson. For long years after, he traveled seeking allies to practice and eventually try to free someone from the demon's grasp, which they often succeeded at. Nowadays, he’s an awesome warrior, doing what he can to stop his enemies, but don’t make a mistake to think he does this for the greater good, no, he does it because fighting is what he's good at, and combating demons is a long trained practiced in his mind. Just that. And maybe some long-sustained-rage for the beatings he took.
That's a plain human barbarian, I'll be doing the crunch later ^_^
Another point now that I think of it would have been that Chezarion was deliberately trying to hide his trail. He wouldn't be able to do so anywhere near as well as a fully trained ranger could, but his efforts wouldn't have been totally ineffective. Knowing something of what was out there trying to track down refugees for "fun"/food he wouldn't have been taking any chances he didn't think he needed to.
It's just that part of my problem is my mind keeps replaying that scene from "The Lord of the Rings" where Aragorn tracks the two hobbits through the area where the Rohirrim wiped out the Uruk Hai. :-)

We could go the route of dad wasn't able to follow your trail initially due to not being able to make it back to the area for some time. Being severely injured is quite plausible a reason as to why he didn't try before.

Background:
Being born in a poor family, in Korvosa poorest district, she grew always hungry and with almost nothing to eat.
Despite of that, she was a cute child, sparkling green eyes, golden hair.
She could not understand whom those men’s that took her away from her family were. Mom only cried, Father would not look in her eyes, but she never forgot the distinct sound of coins thrown to father.
She was seven.
After that, life only got worse. Her new ‘family’ were always travelling, her new ‘father’ always looked at her with strange eyes, her new ‘mother’ however, was really nice. Of course, she would always get a beating for not doing her chores, even if she did it. However, at the end of the day, ‘mother’ would embrace her, and sing songs to make her sleep, and even thought life was hard, she was happy. She no longer would go hungry for days.
One night, after a particularly hard day, she was sleeping when mother came. Without saying anything, the woman hugged her, and then, mother started to cry, singing soft children songs. Not much later, father came, a strange look in his eyes ”It’s yer fault for being pretty…” it was all he said as he took the children from the woman’s embrace.
She was eleven.
They were near Korvosa again, and she were sold to a man called ‘Lamm’
Lamm took her back to the city, and life that already was bad, became hell.
The first days were especially worse. They hurt her in manners she was not aware they could hurt someone.
She became Lamm’s Pet; she would attend to his every need. To get him food, clean his room. Whenever he went, Lamm took her along.
In one of those times, when he took her to a meeting with an ex-member from the Academae, the mage took a liking to her. It did not needed much to frighten Lamm into trading the girl, once more, she saw her life take a turn, for worse, she thought. More after the murderous look Lamm gave her before leaving.
She was thirteen.
The first thing sir Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa did, was to make her clean. Servants took her and after a bath in hot water (which nearly killed her of fear, since it was her first time cleaning that way), and changing some simple, but clean clothes, she was brought to her new ‘master’.
Inside his studio, he was sitting comfortably, while observing her.
Once more, she prepared herself mentally for the worse, since child, she had learned to enter in a ‘special place’, where she could ignore all things that happened to her body, she would only feel the afterwards. However, strange enough, he was only looking.
”I am sure you have experienced a lot of hardship in your life. I can see it in your eyes.” still in his chair, he leans towards her and continues. ”I’m not saying your life here will be easier,” that made her tremble in fear, “But the only punishment you’ll receive, are those you earn.” after saying that, he got up from his chair using a cane to help him walk. ”Here in my household, no one is treated in an unfair manner. You get what you deserve, nothing more, and nothing less. In addition, if you try to flee, know that I have means to find you, no matter where you hide. Now go and attend to the servant quarters, they will tell you what is expected of you.”
Despite of her new master threats, life got better. She still got punished, from time to time, but it was only due her own failings, and less than she was used too.
They taught her how to read and write, and a proper etiquette for a servant woman. Her duty was to serve the master needs. To keep his room and his studio clean.
One day, her curiosity got the best of her, and the master found her reading his diaries. She saw in him that day, an array of strange expressions, dreading for the worse, she closed her eyes and waited for punishment.
”It occurs to me, that you have been working under this house for almost a year now, and I do not know your name.”
She was startled, her name? What was it? She could not remember. ”I do not know it master.” ”How can you be here for an entire year and do not have a name?” question Agrippa.
”They call me Catcher, master.” says the girl
Smiling at the name the master asked “And why is that?” ”They found me trying to catch an apple in the garden, on my first day here, master.” answer Catcher.
Laughing the mage continue, ”Yes, yes. Very fitting. Tell me Catcher, what do you think of my diary?”
The question surprised her; she was not going to be punished?
”Its confusing master. I can understand you use the diagrams and formulae to call something from another place, and bind it to your will, but I got lost with all those numbers and calculus…”
The master blinked in surprise. ”How… were you able to understand it?” ”I do not know master; it just made sense that it worked that way.”
Still smiling in disbelief Agrippa asked ”Would you like to learn more about it, Catcher?”
Sensing an opportunity and being cautious she answered ”Only if you see fitting to teach me, master.”
This was how she turned to be personal assistant and pupil of Sir Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa, ex-member of the academae.
She was fourteen.
The next three years passed in a blur.
She was free from house chores; her only duties were to assist the master and to study, which made her happy.
Nothing would work in the two first years of training, she doubt for a moment that she had what it takes to be a wizard, but her effort paid in the end.
Master had mastered the arcane ways of conjuring things and making things appear out of blue.
Her power however, focused in the raw power of magic, more fitting to transform and enhance, than to create or conjure.
She was seventeen when Agrippa officially declared her no longer an apprentice, and gave her first and real grimoire.
That was the happiest day of Catcher life.
Her relationship with the master only improved after that, they never saw each other as man and woman; it was more like father and daughter.
In a peculiar day, Agrippa called her into his studio. He seemed different, anxious.
”Catcher, it has been four years you were brought into this house, and three years since I began to teach you.” looking at the window he continued ”You gained my trust and affection in this period of time, not out of compassion, but because you deserved it.”
His words filled her with pride and fear.
”Today, a matter of extreme importance has surfaced. I can trust only you to help me.”
He turned and faced her, in his hands a small message container ”I need this delivered with utmost secrecy to an associate of mine that lives in Magnimar.”
He looked at the window again ”I know it’s a long travel, but I think it will be good for you to know new places.”
After saying that, he walk to her and in an unexpected gesture, gave her a hug
”You made me proud of teaching you. Do not disappoint me in this.”
In the next day, she left Korvosa, with a secret to deliver, and despite of all, she was happy.
Dressed as an adventurer, the mercenary group hired to escort her seemed a bit familiar, but Catcher did not paid any attention to it.
In the first night, tired from the long day of journey, she did not waked up when someone entered her tent. What followed next was not easy to remember later. The mercenaries tortured her for hours, and before passing out, she was able to see Lamm entering her tent, a wicked smile in his lips. ”Finish her” was the only thing she remember before passing out in pain.
Catcher was found, days later, half-dead in a riverside.
Her recovery was a slow one, more than one month later when she was back at Korvosa.
In that time spam, her guardian had been accused and his house taken as property of his Highness. Rumor said Agrippa fled, after an ugly confrontation with the city guard.
Slipping inside the now abandoned house, she searched her master studio, for the secret places she knew. All save one already found. Inside it, she found her master old grimoire, from his time as an academae student, a huge sword, with some personal heraldry, some golden coins.
Taking it all, she left the house, promising to avenge the master and bring Lamm to steel justice.
personality:
She is a methodic person (Lawful), and likes to calculate before doing things. She is accustomed to brutal things and not really into giving her life for those she does not know or have no feelings, but she is true to her friends (not that she as one). (Neutral)
Even then, she is open minded and easy going. Having no real experience with others, she will be delighted and easy influenced by the others. But it’s hard to gain her trust, because things that happened to her in the past.
Party Role:
She will serve at first as the party mage. Being an Transmuter (not sure yet the opposite schools), she will still get the opposite spells, if they are needed. Later, I plan to have her dip into fighter (possible training with one of the group members) and lastly at Eldrich knight. She will then move to a secondary melee character, staying in middle term between front linier and a mage.

Hey there, I would be interested in this! I've been chewing on a character concept of a chaotic good lovable joyful caster (can't decide between wizard or cleric) who is totally devoted to utilitarian ideals, and in particular, the use of undead for social good!
It would be neat to try to help people this way. I suppose his end goal might be to settle down of mayor as some frontier town and improve people's lives through the industrial and agricultural use of undead, freeing laborers to pursue leisure, art, or other trades.
Of course all of this is just a pipe dream at level 1, and the main thing for this character would be to enjoy life, and do his best to be sure others are too (100% lovable utilitarian).
I'd love your input on creating and developing this character if you find this short explanation of the concept interesting enough to consider!
Edit: one of the important things is to know what makes undead evil in your world! Do undead raised by conventional means automatically attack the living unless ordered otherwise? If so then this character would need to devote a lot of time to researching the undead and the magic that animates them and trying to create the perfect fearless obedient peaceful (almost) indestructible workers.
I made him for another game that never took off so I changed up his story a little to fit because I really liked it and made his mechanics geared for this game. :)
