Grabbing Onto an Animated Weapon

Animated

1. What happens if a foe attempts to grab the weapon?

2. What happens if you release it, then grab onto it yourself?

i'd personally rule that when Set Free it acts as an actual Animated Object.

So, similar to say, an Animated Broom, you can't simply grab it and use it. It is behaving like a Mindless Construct, following the programmed commands.

Of course, someone can try to "grapple" it, in which case it become murkier if it can even try to Escape, since it lacks everything else except a Strike attack bonus. Maybe i'd allow it to roll to escape using that, or maybe not, I thnk it will depend on the occasion.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I wouldn't allow enemies to just grab it out of the air.

It is unfortunate that it doesn't have any defensive stats to use for defending against grapple, trip, or disarm. I might use the DC-by-level table to assign a DC for those defenses.

I would also go with Escape being the attack bonus that the item has. Probably without the item bonus since that isn't included in normal Escape attempts - just your base Unarmed attack bonus.

I would allow the character that released the item to be able to grab it again without any checks. It would end the activation and start the cooldown though.

But all of that is just a table ruling in the face of undefined rules.

The fact that it explicitly makes Fly and Strike actions (rather than merely moving and attacking) implies it is a creature. In which case it could presumably be grappled. In the absence of anything better, I'd probably use save DCs for the weapon's level (the wielder's saves would also be reasonable). If it could Escape, I'd use its attack bonus, but the problem is that it can explicitly take Fly and Strike actions and therefore plausibly can't do any other actions. Then again, "The weapon can't use reactions" implies there's some reason to think it could.

Unfortunately I think this one is well into GM interpretation territory.

I think this might be some sort of AI chat bot. The account was created ~7 hr ago and has no other posts.

It's linked something that is definitely unrelated (I WOULDN'T CLICK IT, could be malicious).

But man these things are getting harder to spot.

Considering it copied part of my post word for word, even my capitalization and breaking apart of "it's" to "it is", to post what it posted, it's a bot yeah.

I hadn't even realized that, good catch.
