Shaun returns Bronwyn’s questioning glance. What? I miss something?
"I don't know, Kaoru. Sure I'd take a ninja in a fight any day, but come on, for a movie? Swashbucklery, rope swinging, the spray of the sea, passion and quips? Give me any pirate movie any day."
The mental brake lock Shaun mind goes through is all but outright audible. ”Waitaf%#@, If he’s Kaoru, then...” Things started clicking together in his mind, and a mischievous grin crossed his face. Oh-hohoho, well then Kaoru, let’s see how much of a living hell I can make this non-date for you.
"You only say that because movies don't include scents with them. If they did, let's see then how much you'd like a movie about a bunch of people stuck on a boat for weeks at a time. Not to mention the scurvy and bad teeth." Kaoru smirked at Bronwyn before switching to a perfect pirate accent. "Besides, their quips be below parrr."
”Yea’, but y’never see ninja jokes comin’.” He pauses for comedic effect. ”’Sides, ninjas win ev’ry time. No contest.” He casually leans forward. ”They take their time, plan every detail, down ta’ what they wear. Pirates do too, but they try ta’ act like they don’t care. Doesn’t even have much function, just looks ridiculous.” The entire time he’s talking, his eyes never leave Kaoru. C’mon, take the bait you a$$!&...
Bronwyn Pascal
Bronwyn turned her entire body to give Kaoru an incredulous look, unfortunately forcing her to swing her legs up and across Shayera's lap. "Did I say anything about wanting to smell real life pirates? Besides, if you keep making fun of my favorite scurvy dogs, I'll have to go off somewhere and shed a private-tear."
Kaoru Miyamoto
unfortunately forcing her to swing her legs up and across Shayera's lap
Awww, poor baby. I feel soooo bad Kaoru forced you into such a compromising situation.
”Yea’, but y’never see ninja jokes comin’.”
Kaoru tried to stifle a snort. The joke actually wasn't half bad, which was...surprising given its source. But then Shaun's comments just got...weird. He was clearly trying to pull something. And judging by his tone and aggressive posture, he was probably trying to insult her. Except that it didn't actually make any sense. I mean, he *does* realize that I just came down on the side of ninjas on this ninja vs pirate thing, right? And why is he so hung up on clothing? Perhaps he's taken one too many blows to the head lately. Her response was mild. "I agree. Planning ahead is often the source of victory. And properly choosing clothing ahead of time can make all the difference. It's why actual ninjas didn't wear the all-black outfits portrayed in the media; that would immediately identify who they were. Instead, they'd dress up as farmers or beggars, so their target would simply overlook them." She then turned her attention back to Bronwyn.
"Did I say anything about wanting to smell real life pirates? Besides, if you keep making fun of my favorite scurvy dogs, I'll have to go off somewhere and shed a private-tear."
She tensed slightly as Bronwyn promptly invaded Wingblade's personal space. Her eyes flicked to the local hero, making sure she didn't plan to respond poorly to Bronwyn's action, before flicking back to the athlete. Her face a mask of seriousness, she responded, "Better stay close though. Because pirates don't like to go very farrr."

He’s not biting...or he’s dumber than I thought. He chuckles dryly, then returns to his relaxed position. Whatever. I’ll keep my ears open, then we’ll see how this guy likes being the one in the firing line for a change...
Losing intrest in Kaoru for the time being, his eyes slide over to his neighbor, Ms. Familiar. He adjusts himself a touch to face her. ”A’ight, this is gonna sound a bit wierd, but I swear I’ve seen ya’ somewhere before. Do ye’ live near Lone Pine maybe? Or...wait, ye’re not livin’ in there, are ye’?”
Alexis AKA Mercy
The young girl is trying to keep up with the conversation. But she seemed confused and lost by some of the terms that people were using. She wanted to tell Kaoru why she enjoyed reading Shakespeare, but then she'd gotten embroiled in a conversation about how ninjas were better than pirates, and she didn't quite understand.
"...Um." Alexis looks nervous and awkward as she asks the question. "What's a ninja? Why do they fight pirates?"
Bronwyn Pascal
1 person marked this as a favorite.
"Arr you serious? You don't sea me retreading the same waters for the same defishient wordplay." Her eyes twinkled as she narrowly kept from a solid self-laugh, "Are you shore you're up to this?"
Kaoru Miyamoto
Kaoru raised one eyebrow at Bronwyn, corners of her lips twitching in the barest hint of a smile. Without breaking eye-contact, she quickly answered Alexis' question. "Ninjas are Japanese warriors from feudal Japan specializing in stealth, infiltration, and target elimination ops. The internet has made them sworn enemies with pirates." If the girl used to be part of some military thing, that would probably be the most understandable explanation she could give.
"Them's fightin' words, Bron. Trying to start a warrr? 'Cause I'm not sure you would wyn. Or would you just like a gold starrr? Though you're setting a pretty low barrr for these jokes."
I swear I read Bronwyn's statement 3 times and kept finding new jokes. Well played.
Hex - AKA. Cassie Helious
Bronwyn: Maybe go behind a corner at an appropriate moment if you're not SURE?
Cassie: Yeah, that's prob better
Bronwyn: I'll cover if that helps, but I think it'd be good for them to meet-meet you.
Cassie: Cool, sounds good
Bronwyn: ur choice obvs
Cassie sits back, smiling at the banter. She tries once or twice to interject but then feels Shaun's eyes on her. ”A’ight, this is gonna sound a bit wierd, but I swear I’ve seen ya’ somewhere before. Do ye’ live near Lone Pine maybe? Or...wait, ye’re not livin’ in there, are ye’?”
Uh,.. yeah." she replied, "We've actually met... First day of school?, The Museum?, Biology? No? god I hate this f~@@ing charm.
THE KILT
Shaun brow furrows as he thinks. Then his eyebrows shoot up as he snaps his fingers. "Oh yea'! Cassiphione, right? Ta' one interested in that staff? I knew I knew ya'." He settles back in his seat, completely unaware of the charm-defying information he'd just dispensed. "I hope ya' didn't try ta' touch that thin', turned out ta' be some crazy super-artifact or somethin'. Was still kinda cool though." He looks back towards her. "I'm Shaun, by ta' way."
Wingblade
Shayera leans back in her seat and observes the interplay like she used to do in the early days. When everyone started making pirate jokes, she found them really funny and had to clap her hands over her mouth to stifle her laughter. It got so bad that her eyes started to tear up and she had to fish out a tissue from her purse to keep from ruining her eye makeup.
Shayera doesn't make any move to stop Bronwyn's legs from lying across her lap.
When the subject of Cassie comes up, Shayera leans as best she can with her legs pinned and tries to introduce herself. "Hi again."
Bronwyn Pascal
Feeling warm and fuzzy as her favorite slippers as she felt Shayera laugh beneath her, Bronwyn fake-complained, "Oh come on there's got to be some kind of pun-ishment for just reusing the same sound. I'm thinking a bucc-an-arrr."
Did Shaun just-? Oh, did she take off the glamer? Play it cool for now.
Kaoru Miyamoto
Kaoru briefly felt a moment of regret that Bronwyn didn't know her hacker name. It meant she couldn't claim the other girl would be unable to pas Cal, even if she did use some different jokes. She shrugged, though her eyes betrayed how much she was enjoying this. "You sure you want to go for a bucc-an-arr? Unless you can keep this up for three hours, you'd get more for a bucc-an-ear. Perhaps if you agree to that, we'll finally be able to see aye to aye. Though now I'm afraid you've gotten me a bit hooked on this. How else am I going to use the joke book I bought on sail? Though even so, it still cost an arrrm and a leg."

(DM MODE) The Highway
The best movie multiplex in Halcyon City was too far to make it in time to their showing by the local streets. So Reginald took them up onto the highway overpass, stretching across the city in a marveled display of human engineering. Hundreds of commuters going to and from their workplaces, heading north or east for their weekend getaways, or the plentiful commercial vehicles loaded with everything from soda to lumber can be found running on this long stretch of four lane asphalt.
Alexis watches quietly out of the window, when something peculiar catches her interests as she pushes her face closer to the glass towards the back of the limo. "...Something noisy is coming," She comments. Reginald is about to tell her to seat herself properly, when he glances into his rearview mirror and straightens his posture.
"Apologies, miss, but I fear we may be late for your showing," he speaks up - as a massive air horn blasts from behind them!
A huge truck, loaded with at least twenty luxury model sports car, is racing forward down the highway. An open jeep rides alongside it, driven by what appears to be a woman - if a woman had scales, feathers, claws, and a mouthful of sharp teeth. Clinging to either side of the truck are two other lizard like humanoids, one male with a strip of plates along his back ending in a spiked tail, the other female with a club tail that's warding off cars from them. In the driver's seat is a man with thick horns on his head shouting loudly but unheard over the air horn, and flying above the truck is another woman, her arms splayed out with powerful looking wings keeping her aloft.
Standing in the back of the jeep, the biggest member of this lot stands tall and proud, his powerful physique barely contained in the tank top he wears, letting out a mighty roar that somehow overpowers the airhorn. "Out of the way! THE SAURIANS are coming through with our payday!"
The truck accelerates, moving off to one side of the limousine. In a warning to get out of the way, the club tailed Saurian smashes her attached weapon into the sunroof window, smashing it to bits!
What Do You Do?
And here we go. Note that I work on Sundays, so I'll be checking in periodically but I may not be able to type up a reply until later tonight for everyone. For the sake of Team, we're adding the standard 2 Team for the start of the encounter, and removing 1 since everyone's ill-prepared for this (Currently counting 4 Team Total). In your posts, please address your purpose in this fight, and whether you mistrust the team or not. Looking forward to seeing how you all react!
Alexandra E. Walker
capture, and given their theme, Humiliate, these c-listers. and She actively distrusts 1/3 of the team, and is pretty sure half of it does the same to her.
I Legitimately didn't think it was possible to be lamer than Ronnie Alexandra says to herself
Well, Shite she says raising her boot, and pushing her hair over her face, before sticking her head out the sun-roof. she brings a domino mask from her pocket and puts it on as she climbs out the window., onto the speeding car.
A$@*~, you dumb enough to think you wouldn't meet any supers speeding through Halcyon, or arrogant enough to think you could take them if you did? She says, throwing a dart with a gredade attached by string.
Directly engage: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 1) = 7
I'm gonna take their Mobility... This is a bit Mad-Max for Alexandra
The dart sinks into the hood, and the grenade rolls under the car, the front of it raises a few feet int he air, and when it slams back down, the tires are shredded.
Is it a "mark a condition" hit, or a "Take a powerful Blow" hit
THE KILT
Objective: stop the hijackers, and maybe show off to the heroes in the limo...just a little bit. I’m actually split on how he feels about the team as a whole, but since Alexis just earned a brownie point with my boy I’d say his current mood is overall positive. Yeah Kaoru’s a big drag factor, but Bronwyn, Wingblade, and Cassie are ALL pluses.
The second Shaun hears the booming voice of the Saurian leader, he gets out of his seat and whips out the kit. By the time the club-tail hits the sunroof, he’s got a smear of blue warpaint across his eyes in classic mask fashion. As Alexandra dons a mask of her own and hops onto the roof, he’s got a fistful of throwing knives in one hand and some kind of jury-rigged spray can in the other. ”Here we go...!” he mutters, a massive smile on his face.
Sticking his head out the side window, he shouts out to the dino-gang. ”HEY! LOVE TA’ LAND BEFORE TIME COSPLAY, BUT YE’ GOT A FEW DETAILS WRONG!” He winds back the hand carrying the can for a pitch. ”FOR ONE, YE’ CAN’T FLY PETRIE!”
It doesn’t make a numbers difference, but I am using “Always prepared to roll Uleash with Superior.
Unleash My Invention: 2d6 - 1 ⇒ (2, 1) - 1 = 2
...*deep sigh* Whelp, potential for me...
He hurls the improvised gadget up towards the winged goon, but with a quick flip she knocks it off-course, causing the can to pop into a ball of quick-dry foam harmlessly in the air.
Shaun grumbles. ”Damnit! That cost forty bucks!” Then his eyes lock with the semi-rex in the tank. The smile returns to the Scotsman’s face. ”Dibs on ta’ boss!” He withdraws back into the limo then clambers onto the roof, clearing preparing to jump to the jeep.
Hex - AKA. Cassie Helious
1: He thinks her name is Cassandra (or Cassie) not Cassiphone (that's her real name),...
2: I don't think Shaun didn't saw Uninteresting Cassie near the staff, he saw Hex/Cassiphone/Magic Girl there (she'd taken off the charm by then).
Sorry if its a bit hard to follow who she is at any given moment / how the charm works. Hopefully it won't be too much of an issue for too long.
Cassie smiles at Shayera but can't help feeling her eyes drawn to the other girl's amulet. She's just about to answer when she hears the Saurian's voice and Shaun begins rummaging in his bag, pulling out his kilt. Turning to look at what's going on through the car's rear window she sees the mayhem being caused, flinching and doing her best to cover herself as the tail-club smashes through the sunroof.
Assess: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 5) + 1 = 10 What here is the biggest threat? What here is in the greatest danger?
Did Shaun just strip in the car?.. on the seat next to Cassie??
Kaoru Miyamoto
Ahh, saved from more terrible puns by dinosaurs. Now y'all know never to put Kaoru and Bronwyn in the same room together.
Kaoru had been far too distracted trying to get Bronwyn to laugh to notice the dinosaur-people approach (Seriously? MORE dinosaurs?). She gritted her teeth. To be honest, she had expected this. Kanga Ronnie on Monday. Bone Daddy on Wednesday. Simple pattern matching decreed something would happen on Friday (and that something was still to come on Sunday). But still, she had kind of hoped she'd be proven wrong.
She winced as the sunroof got smashed. Renting a limo split 7 ways was probably affordable. Paying for a whole new limo was...well, probably still affordable but almost certainly meant she'd be cut off financially for the foreseeable future. Not a great outcome if she was going to try to make useful things in her spare time. She had kind of really hoped they would just let the dino-people go along their merry way and stay out of it since they didn't seem to be in any immediate danger. This was apparently also not in the cards. She probably should have been able to predict that.
Her stomach lurched as she watched Alexandra climb out onto the car. Was she insane? She was making herself a huge target! Not to mention that car surfing wasn't exactly the safest thing in the first place. She used her backpack to push the shattered remains of the sun roof out of her way with only minimal glass cuts. She then launched her trusty drone out, hoping to distract the dinosaurs from retribution.
Defend Alexandra, influence: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (1, 6) + 1 = 8
Expose myself to danger. Hard to come up with flavor text since I don't know what threat exactly I'm defending Alexandra from. If it's a heavy blow, I was thinking something swings at her, use the drone to knock the blow off-kilter, and then the blow hits me instead? Or if she's about to fall off the car, try to stabilize/grab her which somehow puts me in danger instead. If it's a condition...I have no idea what that would look like.
Edit: Oh wait! Defending also does other stuff! I'll use it to...clear Insecure because I'm being helpful! And because I'll probably be taking 2 conditions from a heavy blow or something.
Purpose: Back up Alexandra and pray they don't all get in a giant car accident
Team: Currently also mistrusts about a 1/3 of it
THE KILT
NO! Just put on facepaint and grabbed some weapons, not in costume.
Also, yes, I know that if the charm were effecting him in the same way it was effecting the others, that’s what he would have seen and know. But then, it isn’t effecting him the same way as it effects others. ;) I’ll PM you in a second to let you know what’s going on.
Hex - AKA. Cassie Helious
"Oh yea'! Cassiphione, right? Ta' one interested in that staff? I knew I knew ya'. I hope ya' didn't try ta' touch that thin', turned out ta' be some crazy super-artifact or somethin'. Was still kinda cool though.I'm Shaun, by ta' way."
Cassie's eyes go wide and she turns to face Shaun, stammering, "Wha,... no I'm, um my name's Cassandra. That wasn't me at the museum! You must have me confused with, someone or something."
Her hand starts to edge towards her bag just as she hears the Saurian's voice and Shaun begins rummaging in his bag, pulling out his kilt. Still in shock, she turns to look at what's going on through the car's rear window she sees the mayhem being caused, flinching and doing her best to cover herself as the tail-club smashes through the sunroof. [/s]
From spoilered Assess roll (10) above: What here is the biggest threat? What here is in the greatest danger?
Wingblade
Kaoru, since you're Insecure, you take a -2 to Defend someone. But that's all right; I'll spend a Team to kick your Defend up to a 7.
Shayera says "揭示," and suddenly her nice dress, heels and stylish hair and makeup fades, and is replaced by a basic black tank top, cargo pants, and a pair of metallic wings on her back. She glances over to see Kaoru deploying some sort of drone from the backpack he'd been clutching the whole time. As it starts to rise up, it catches on a flapping seat belt and is prevented from exiting the limo. With a quick flick of one razor-sharp wing, she severs the strap and the drone is deployed.
One Team spent
Then without any further hesitation, Wingblade launches herself out through the sunroof and begins flapping her wings in a blur to match the speed of the limo and the Saurians' vehicle.
As she banks over to fly alongside the open air jeep, she yells, "I'm gonna have to see some license and registration!" She performs a quick wingover and lands on the hood of the jeep, the tips of her wings digging into the metal to keep her anchored in case they try some crazy maneuvers.
Directly Engage: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 2) + 2 = 9

Bronwyn Pascal
Okay, there's five of them. Shayera, Alexis, and Alexandra can take care of themselves, and Shaun can too, I guess, but if he isn't careful he could just get run over...
No, I should armor up.
Can't just do it here though...
There's gotta be somewhere I can hide, probably safer for Kaoru, maybe that's what Cassie will want to do. Actually, I have no idea how close she has to be to help.
Assess: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 4) + 1 = 7 What here can I use to find a discrete place to transform?
Bronwyn trusts the team. Her goal is to take down the prehistoric pilferers with as little collateral damage as possible.
Alexis AKA Mercy
DM Notes
Since everyone currently has some mistrust in some of the team, no bonus team for that.
Alexandra, that roll was more of an Unleash Powers effect - you're trying to reshape the environment by getting the truck to slow down and not actually directly engaging a threat (The Saurians). Since you're up to take a condition instead of making it unstable or temporary, we can do that here.
Cassie, you can see that the biggest threat at the moment is the eighteen wheeler that is now threatening to jack knive since they lost some tires. What's in the biggest danger are the many, many civilian cars and vehicles in the way of the truck.
The Saurians are so cocksure and confident, and the air horn is so loud that only their flyer notices Shaun and Alexandra coming out of the smashed sunroof, before throwing their bombs. Shaun's jury rigged device misses his mark. Alexandra's on the other hand does what she intended it to do, as the thirty ton truck is blown upwards before slamming hard enough to pop some tires. It slows significantly, but is still pushing along.
Her bomb also blew a massive hole in the highway, left behind them and causing a pile up of cars crashing into each other and making a huge traffic jam! Alexandra, take Guilty.
Her shock makes her a prime target for the club tailed dinowoman, but is distracted by the suddenly buzzing drone in her face. Snarling, she slams her tail into the side of the limo, making it skid dangerously - and one the opposing passenger doors snap open, as Kaoru finds himself hanging onto dear life inches from the pavement!
Shaun's attempt to foam the flying dinowoman makes her dive in, and with her large claw like feet, she snatches him up from the top of the limo, throwing him on top of the car trailer! Landing hard on a silver sports car, he can see the spike-tailed dinoman climb up towards him.
Wingblade seeks out the head of the pack, but his driver squawks out in despair as her wings dig into the Jeep. "My baby! Get off! Rex, get her off!" She calls to the larger man. Rex grins and crawls forward, getting close enough to throw punches at Wingblade's face!
Bronwyn, seeking privacy, realizes the only place she could effectively hide is in the trunk of the limousine. Checking the back seat, she can see that there's a way to crawl in from here!
Defend Kaoru: 2d6 + 0 ⇒ (3, 5) + 0 = 8
"Kaoru!" Alexis is there to help drag her friend away from immediate peril, when the car swerves and she tumbles out - right in time to get hit in the face with a club tail.
Take A Powerful Blow: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 2) + 2 = 8
Stumbling back, her nose crushed and bleeding, the armored club tail woman takes the opportunity to leap off onto the limo's roof, staring down Alexandra. "You trying to kill everyone with those fireworks?" She asked.
What do you do?
Hex - AKA. Cassie Helious
Cassie lunges forward to help Alexis pull Kaoru back into the car, just as it swerves sending Alexis flying and Cassie slams against the side of the compartment. Reaching to grab Alexis, she sees the other girls bloody face and turns to Bron. "What're you waiting for? Summon him!"
Provoke Bron to 'summon' Bran: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (6, 6) + 1 = 13 If she does it add 1 to Team, if not mark a condition.
Bronwyn Pascal
"We're- we're moving too fast. I need to be able to concentrate and-" **CRUNCH**
There's no time anyways. Can't we for once get a moment to just enjoy something?! Marking Angry
Okay, she's big; she's armored; she's clubby. Punching her out would give me away, but her balance can't be *that* good.
Bronwyn quickly centered her balance in the sliding limo and leapt for the sunroof, caroming into Ankyla's legs to knock her onto the highway!
Directly Engage: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 6) = 9 That sounds like somewhere between Taking her Balance or Providing my Teammates with an Opportunity (aka some breathing space). If someone tosses some team my way then I'll resist her blows too.
Kaoru Miyamoto
Aww crap, forgot to check condition penalties. Sorry! :/ I'll pay you back by helping your gf. ;-)
Kaoru was about to let her drone out to try to distract the dinos when she saw Wingblade transform. And suddenly her reaction to the girl's voice made a lot more sense. It distracted her enough that her drone got caught in a seatbelt. She cursed mentally, flinching slightly as she saw Wingblade spread her very, very sharp looking wings. But the girl only cut the seatbelt and then flew off to engage one of the other dinosaurs on a jeep. The drone was freed just in time to thankfully knock the blow aimed for Alexandra wide. Kaoru has just enough time to think Have I...misjudged Wingblade? before she's practically thrown from the car. Kaoru will remember that.
She then winces as Alexis takes a very painful blow to the face in her attempt to grab her and prevent her. G*ddamn it, why do people keep trying to rescue me? Why do people keep *needing* to rescue me? I've got to get better at this. She grabs Cassie's arm, helping to haul herself back up as the girl is confusingly yelling about summoning someone. Does Bronwyn have some summoning ability? Is that what Alexandra was talking about earlier? Not that now was really the time to ask. But next thing she knew, now Bronwyn was on top of the car. Seriously, what is wrong with everybody? Why do people keep feeling the need to jump into the middle of everything?
Quickly realizing what exactly she was trying to do, Kaoru whipped off her belt, wrapping it around the dino-woman's other leg and tugging. Spending a team to help Bronwyn. She gives the athlete her best glare, "No. Walking. The. Plank. Got it?" She then quickly ducks back into the limo. She was really no use when it came to a fight, but she was pretty sure trying to dodge traffic was making it even harder for her friends (and she supposed, Shaun as well. Who probably didn't deserve to die. Probably) to keep their balance. Maybe I can do something about that.
She pulled her computer out of her backpack and started trying to hack into the traffic light system. If I can just stop people from entering the highway and expedite those trying to get off, maybe we can actually drive straight.
Unleash (reshape environment): 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (2, 5) + 2 = 9 Trying to reduce/remove traffic
I'll mark Guilty. She keeps trying to help and then other people end up needing to rescue her. :/ On the bright side, finally hacked something in combat!
I believe we're now at 2 Team in the pool

Should I roll a Powerful Blow?
”...ow.” Kilt has landed on his chest, putting a sizable dent in the Audi’s roof, but thankfully his head hasn’t smashed into the windscreen. ”A’ight, feelin’ that was a little uncalled f’r.”
As he picks himself up, a few details of the current predicament stick out to him. Firstly is Wingblade engaging the big boss, which he distinctly remembered calling dibs on a few seconds ago. Secondly is the seriously concerning way the truck is shuddering and lurching from side-to-side, which was probably a bit more pressing than a stolen baddie. Thirdly is the thorn-butt crawling his way towards the Scotsman. That was definitely priority number one.
Directly Engage Steg: 2d6 - 1 ⇒ (3, 6) - 1 = 8
I will choose to avoid their blows.
As the dinoman clambered up onto the top of the trailer, Kilt took a horse stance on his car cushion. ”Hiya’ Spike. How’s Ducky doin’?” Gripping a knife in his mouth (like a pirate), he sent two others flying toward the scaly mutant. They weren’t aimed for anything important, but the guy predictably flinched and used his plates to knock the blades away. At the same time, Kilt leapt forward and grabbed onto his oppoent’s tail.
The result of this to anyone watching is Kilt swinging out and around, using the tail like a very dangerous rope, to reach a part of the truck closer to the cab. Meanwhile the thorn-butt grabs desperately at the trailer trying to not lose his balance and fall onto pavement.
I’ll leave it to the GM whether or not he falls off. Don’t know if these guys are acting as one villain as a unit or if they each have their own stats, so I don’t want to knock one out of the fight early.
Wingblade
Wingblade grins defiantly as the big anthro T-rex comes up to dance.
"The last T-rex I tangled with lost its head. So why don't you give up now before something like that happens to you?"
To give Rex some encouragement, she blocks, parties and stymies every attack he throws at her, and gives him a nerve strike each time he overextends himself.

DM Notes: I'll be sure to let you all know when to Take a Powerful Blow. When I do, make sure to roll and resolve for that at the beginning of your posts before anything else you do.
Cassie manages to help pull Kaoru back into the limo and slam shut the opened door to prevent further tumbles from the car. Reginald is doing his best to keep the limo steady and avoiding incoming traffic - though thanks to Kaoru's surprisingly superhuman efforts with her computer, the traffic is lightening up, passenger cars fleeing the highway and only the larger autonomously driven commercial semi-trucks with their loads staying onto the highway, oblivious to the fight around them.
Ankyla laughed as Alexandra's dart simply broke off on her rather tough plated exterior. "What are you pitiful toys going to do against a superior species?" She boasts to her, trying to stomp forward - and struggling, confused as she looks to see a selt belt wrapped around her leg. And then she tumbles forward as Bronwyn kicks her knee out from under her - right on top of Alexandra! Alexandra, Take A Powerful Blow.
Steg stares down at Kilt as they fight each other, the dinoman not letting him use his own tail as his rope, as he swings Kilt around and tosses him until he lands on the rearmost sports car, a tiny pink thing suitable for someone's sweet sixteen. Steg stomps over, then grins at Kilt. And he snaps his tail to hit the car release. Kilt finds the car he's on sliding back towards the highway, as his opponent mockingly waves goodbye to him!
Rex snarls and gnashes his teeth at Wingblade, rage on his face as she prevents him from landing a telling blow. Growing frustrated, he shouts at his driver. "The hell are you doing? Help me, Velo!"
"I'm trying not to get us all killed!" She shouts back, before a look of inspiration occurs to her, as she reaches around the windshield, adjusting the nozzle - and a spray of antifreeze washer fluid sprays into Wingblade's face! Its distracting spray buys her opponents precious seconds as she's blinded temporarily - enough for her to feel the crunch of her bones as Rex's powerful jaw snaps closed around her shoulder, tearing away with his sharp teeth! Wingblade, Take A Powerful Blow.
He looks less than pleased. "Oh, gross! That's just nasty! Never trying that again!" He spits blood, looking disgusted.
In the truck cab, Cera lays his foot down on the gas, pushing the dangerously unsteady truck to go faster, trying to pull away from the limo.
Alexis stands up, concerned as she looks around, trying to see how she could help. She decides to try and deal with the truck, leaping out to grab onto it, climbing towards the cab - and wailing as Dack swoops in with a piercing shriek that makes her ears bleed!
Take A Powerful BLow: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (2, 5) + 2 = 9
It's too much, as she freezes in place, unable to advance. Giving Dack the opportunity to fly to Ankyla's aid, landing next to Bronwyn and attempting to pin her down! Bronwyn, Take A Powerful Blow.
What Do You Do?
THE KILT
Whoa, Steg's actually his name!? I was completely guessing! Lol!
Ow the sequel. Kilt looks up from his position draped over a faux-leather passenger seat just in time to see the scale-faced shithead waving goodbye. Kilt snarls, and starts hauling his freshly bruised butt to the front of the mini-car. It becomes rapidly clear however that he won't make it out before the convertible falls off.
Then he spies the controls for the ramp bellow him, partially obscured by the grated ramp floor. ...oh this is gonna be fun.
As the pink vehicle starts to fall off the back of the truck, Kilt vaults the windshield while simultaneously throwing one of his two remaining knives towards the controls.
Unleash: 2d6 - 1 ⇒ (1, 4) - 1 = 4
God damn it, why do these "dice" hate me!? Hurgh, potential, and my SECOND advancement...
The dagger goes wide, hitting jack-all and sailing off towards the other side of the highway. His plan of sending the pinkmobile back at the dinoman thoroughly shot now, Kilt's hands scrambled for anything to grab onto; hopefully some part of the truck, but anything to keep him from hitting the fast-moving pavement would be nice...!
GM's choice on where my boy ends up. I'd like to not just be out of a scene due to a bad roll, but I know it makes the most logical sense. As for my advancement, I'm gonna take a move from another playbook and grab "Never give up, never surrender" from the Legacy. With how the dice have been treating me, something tells me I'm gonna need it...
Hex - AKA. Cassie Helious
Cassie gasps as she hears the thud of the club tailed saurian hitting the roof of the car and reaches for the Bron's legs and pulling her out of the way just before Dack lands where she had been.
Defend Bron: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (6, 6) + 1 = 13 Clear Afraid
Wingblade
Powerful Blow: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6
Neat! Marking potential
As the spray temporarily blinds her, Wingblade tries to turn to put her wings between her and Rex, He's too fast, though, and she feels teeth sink into her shoulder. Not willing to risk being tossed into the air blindly by the Saurian's head jerk, she keeps anchored in place at the cost of his bite becoming a ripping tear of her flesh.
Blood fountains in his mouth, though thankfully it was all soft tissue damage. She'll be better in a manner of seconds. As her eyes clear, she sees that Rex found a mouthful of human flesh and blood to be decidedly unpleasant. I can use that, she thinks.
One arm clutches at her ruined shoulder and she lets out a horrified scream. "MY AAAARRRMMM!! How could you!!"
Then as her wound knits together, Wingblade straightens and with a note of contempt she says, "Okay, I was kidding. Give it up, Rex. You're not the alpha predator here."
Provoke: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (3, 1) + 2 = 6
Wanting him to give up and rethink his life, if his main power is a bite attack and he doesn't like the taste of human blood.
Oof. Well, in case someone spends a Team, I'll inflict Guilty on him.
Kaoru Miyamoto
Kaoru's eyes go wide as she sees the very large, and very heavy-looking, armored woman start falling towards Alexandra. Desperately she tugs the belt to the side in an attempt to redirect the woman's fall.
Defend Alexandra, totally not insecure this time, influence: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (1, 5) + 1 = 7
I'll add a Team to the pool this time and once again expose myself to danger.
Team Pool: 3
Bronwyn Pascal
I'm assuming Cassie's Defend negates the Take a Powerful.
"Urk! Bronwyn briefly flailed as Cassie yanked her off-balance, narrowly being missed by Dack's claws.
"Reginald - if I hold onto the Shadow can you shake the rest off?"
Standing back up mostly through the roof, she leaned over to grab hold of Alexandra, ready to haul her back in as soon as Ankyla shifted her weight.
Defend: 2d6 + 0 ⇒ (1, 1) + 0 = 2 Seems more right than Unleash, but it's the same roll. And you know, snake eyes aren't going to pass anything...
Alexis AKA Mercy
1 person marked this as a favorite.
Since it's been about 24 hours since my last post, I'm advancing the scene - Alexandra, if you want to work in what she does before the contents of this post, go ahead and post for that, then for after this post.
As Kilt tries to get fancy and turn the tables on Steg, he finds himself missing the mark, landing on the hood of the pinkmobile as it falls off the edge! A chain connecting the vehicle to the trailer goes taut, and he tumbles into the driver's seat. Steg lurches forward, seeing that Kilt is still hanging on by the chains, and grabs onto them, pulling hard and tearing the links apart! He grins as he holds onto the lifeline keeping the car rolling along in neutral behind the trailer. "Any last words?" He mocks Kilt.
Ankyla and Dack seem to be the most entangled with the crew in the limousine, as they slowly pass by an autonomous shipping truck that pins the car between two larger vehicles. Ankyla bares misses falling on Alexandra thanks to Kaoru's timely interference (And despite Bronwyn's failed attempt to get to Alexandra), as she dents in the roof. "Oh, you'll pay for that," She grumbles as her attention is now on the hacker, trying to crawl into the limo to get at him!
Dack on the other hand is irritated at both Bronwyn and Cassie. "This was supposed to be an easy smash and grab, and you're ruining it!" She wails - quite loudly, her high intensity shriek loud enough to rob both of them of their balance and hearing! Cassie, Bronwyn, Take A Powerful Blow.
Cera seems to stumble as another tire shreds, as the truck swerves dangerously, threatening to crush the limo between it and the opposing autonomous truck. Sparks fly up from the rim that grinds against the asphalt, as Reginald pumps his brakes to slow down and move towards the back of the stolen semi, where Steg and Kilt are in conflict.
On the opposite side, Velo is also dropping back, seeing the danger that their payday is presenting. "Cera, slow down or you'll crash the whole thing!" She shouts, before glaring at Steg. "Stop playing around and just drop him!"
Rex snarls at Wingblade. "We're just getting started, you stupid metal chicken! In fact, it's time for you to take a tumble!" He says as he roars and smashes her hard with his foot, dislodging her from the hood of the jeep. He grins at his success, laughing and pumping his fists in the air. "I AM PURE SAURIAN! NO ONE CAN CHALLENGE ME!"
Directly Engage (In A China Shop): 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (6, 4) + 2 = 12
And then a small, light blue missile smashes so hard into the Jeep that Velo loses all control, as it spins around like a top before getting caught on the back of the trailer, both her and Rex dizzy and confused. Alexis is staring angrily at both of them, as the Saurians gape at the screaming girl.
"YOU'RE RUINING MY HANG OUT!" She yells at them.
Alexis is resisting blows, frightening the opposition, and creating an opportunity for her allies.
What Do You Do?
Bronwyn Pascal
Bronwyn lunged once more, but her equilibrium was gone. She twisted, slipped, fell, skidded, barely caught herself on the side of the limo all of it in a blur, her head still swimming. A truck was coming straight for her before swerving away again before she could react.
Okay. Okay.
Okay.
Gotta get some space, gotta... Hoo... This is a bad plan.
As the limo got a little bit of space off to the side, she saw them. A nice little pile of water barrels near the next off ramp, coming closer, closer, now.
Her head tucked, arms held out in a big hoop to minimize the impact, Bronwyn smashed into the barrels like a game of ten-pin.
Owwwwwwww...
Take a Powerful Blow (I am not my body): 2d6 ⇒ (5, 3) = 8 I'll give ground rather literally since I've been trying to fall off of this thing :-p
Once the chase has swept past her
A towering warrior emerged, untroubled by the broken arm of his 'summoner', and began to run, barreling forward like a locomotive as he sprinted, faster and faster back towards the fray. Latching onto vehicles that could support his weight and using the sheer strength and power of his form when he could not, he gained on them, step by step.
Unleash: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 4) = 10
Alexandra E. Walker
Alexandra freezes a second, caught between two options... and Kaoru has to save her. Well, I owe them. she mentally notes
Y'know, you probably shouldn't have mentioned your fear of "Fireworks" she says, another dart embedding itself in Ankyla's armour, before two kicks, one tot he knees, one to the now, shifted centre of balance, send her onto her stomach as the explosive attached to the dart blows under her... that would be fine, the limo would probably keep running.
directly engage: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 5) = 8 avoiding, obviously
Who the f++~ even.... Why would you hybridize Dinosaurs with... This f*~!in' town. She says
THE KILT
A friendly reminder to those in the limo: my boy’s kit is still in there, and still contains approximately too many knives of various kinds (inside the kilt proper) and one massive claymore. So if you need a weapon... ;)
Kilt rights himself in the driver’s seat, taking in the automotive pile-on sandwich he just became the innards of. On his left, Rex and the chicken lady we’re going toe-to-toe with Wingblade and Alexis. On his right, the limo (and presumably the rest of the movie group) was being ripped into by club-tail and the flying one. On top of all this, Steg was toying with him and really asking for a solid boot to the face.
For a half-second, Kilt freezes, an assortment of feeling pulling him towards any of the melees. He’d called dibs on Rex, but Steg was in need of some broken teeth, but there were still people on the limo (or in Alexandra’s case, on the limo), but-!
He pauses, smiles, then looks Steg dead in the eyes as he takes the dagger out of his teeth. ”S’RIOGHAL MO DHREAM MOTHERF#&!ER!”
He vaults the passenger-side door and leaps onto the limo’s roof, making a beeline for the winged woman screeching like a dying bird.
Defend the Limo Passengers!: 2d6 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (5, 1) + 3 - 2 = 7
Clearing Guilty.
One hand wraps around her neck while the other clamps a hand over her mouth. ”SHUT. THE F&&@. UP!” Despite the anger in his voice, he wore a massive smile. That’s more like it!
Hex - AKA. Cassie Helious
Take a blow: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (6, 4) + 1 = 11 Marking Afraid and Guilty AND presenting an opportunity.
At the screech, Cassie's hands go to her ears, trying to block out the sound. As the car swerves, and without a handhold, she slams, once again into, and through the damaged door, which flings open, leaving her dangling on the side of the limo, barely holding on with just one hand. Flailing in the air, she grabs at whatever she can and tries to catch one of Dack's legs. Her falling hand, however fails to find the Saurian.
Directly engage (Afraid): 2d6 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (1, 2) + 1 - 2 = 2
Bronwyn Pascal
If I hadn't managed to finally get knocked out of the limo, assorted knives was definitely going to be Bron's next stop :-p
Kaoru Miyamoto
A look of immense relief comes across Kaoru's face as her attempt to help Bronwyn trip the woman doesn't result in Alexandra getting crushed to death. But things still weren't looking good for them. They now had two pissed off dinosaurs coming after them and really the only hero here was Silver Shadow sans normal outfit. Sure, Alexandra had said everybody in the car either had superpowers or had tried to do the whole 'hero' gig, but Bronwyn was just so normal and Cassie was just...meh. On the bright side, while that scream sounded painful, it probably wasn't lethal. If Silver Shadow could just take out the ground-bound one, she could get the other two out of the way while SS then dealt with the flying one.
And then before she could even start trying to distract Ankyla, Bronwyn fell off the car. At a very high velocity. D*mnit, while she had been trying to figure out her next move she had missed what kind of danger the girl was in. She just prayed the fall hadn't been fatal. Or that maybe one of the group that was engaging the other vehicles had noticed and grabbed her. And that she wouldn't get run over by one of the trucks. Or that-- She shook her head. Freaking out wasn't going to help them and it certainly wasn't going to help Bronwyn. Their best bet was to deal with the threat at hand and go back for her and pray that that wasn't too late.
Well, I have the ankylosaurus' attention. Best to play off of that. If I can keep her attention on me instead of Alexandra, that should give her an opening. She raised one cocky eyebrow as the large beast moving towards her. "I'll pay? No, I think you should pay for making me look at your ugly mug this up close. Let me guess, your mom was so hideous she couldn't find a normal human to hook up with and so horney she was down to try fking a lizard instead. Now because she's a whore the rest of us have to suffer?" As she talked, she began slowly backing up further into the limo.
Are you watching closely?: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 6) + 3 = 10
Get an opportunity, expose a weakness or flaw, avoid further entanglement. Open to other ideas/whatever DM!Alexis wants, but I was thinking maybe the flaw is that she's too big to get into the limo through the sunroof and the opportunity comes from her getting stuck trying to reach me. And I guess avoiding further entanglement is that she can't reach me while she's stuck. Just an idea though. *shrugs*
When you mislead, distract, or trick someone, roll + Superior. On a hit, they are fooled, at least for a moment. On a 10+, choose three. On a 7- 9, choose two.
- You get an opportunity
- You expose a weakness or flaw
- You confuse them for some time
- You avoid further entanglement
On a miss, you're hopelessly embroiled in it and under pressure; mark a condition.
Wingblade
Since no one spent a Team, I picked up another Potential and therefore an advancement. I'm picking up an Adult move: Overwhelm a Vulnerable Foe.
Rex dislodges Wingblade from the jeep and sends her flying -- which isn't a terrible thing for the winged heroine. From that vantage point in the air, she sees Bronwyn dive out of the limo at a high rate of speed and crash into the embankment. It looked ugly.
And with that, the Red comes back in full force. She pivots in mid-air and dives down at Rex with wing blades pointed downward. With the Saurian leader dazed from the spinning car, he doesn't react when Wingblade crashes into him and sends him off the highway and down an embankment.
Overwhelm: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 3) + 2 = 9
Taking a powerful blow and doing more harm than intended
Powerful Blow: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 4) = 7
Taking Angry and Guilty
Alexis AKA Mercy
Ankyla is reaching for Kaoru when Alexandra slams another explosive dart into her stomach. She scrabbles to try and remove it, but the concussive blast blows her off, bouncing off of her armored back as she tumbles off behind the fight. As she comes to a stop, she looks almost relieved - until knocked unconscious as a newly arrived hero uses her as a jumping platform, rolling off into the divider away from traffic.
Bran can see that from his position on an automated truck advertising the new Quench Cola, that Cera has locked the steering column and is climbing out to assist his allies. Though taking a look at what is going on, he heads instead to one of the sports cars to make a hasty escape, and Bran can see why - there's a bend in the highway coming up, meaning the whole rig is going to crash straight towards a city park! There's probably only a minute to spare!
Dack squawks and chokes as the Kilt grabs her by the throat, wriggling around and flailing her winged arms around. Panicked, she takes off, even with Kilt clinging to her, flying higher...and higher...
...and it's really, really high up now. Dack glares at him, before spinning around and suddenly starting to suicide dive towards the truck!
Rex looks incredibly angry, as he thinks that he should smash this girl who'd smashed his girlfriend's Jeep - and then he loses consciousness as a Wingblade-shaped missile smashes him so hard that he flies off the highway, clipping a concrete barrier as he does so and flipping like a rag doll - Wingblade isn't sure she didn't just kill him!
Neither is Velo, as in shrieks of sorrow her claw-tipped kicks come out for her, balanced on the edge of the Jeep. "You monster! I'll kill you!" She snarls, her hits coming hard and faster than Wingblade is able to keep up! Wingblade, take Hopeless.
Meanwhile, Cassie and Kaoru both notice as well that they're going to be running out of highway soon - if they don't act quickly, it's possible the whole truck will hurt dozens of people when it crashes! But Kaoru's quick thinking allows him to notice a few things - first, the cab is empty, meaning someone can take control if they get there. Second, the automated trucks around them would be even easier to crack than the traffic lights. Third, Steg and Cera seem to be attempting to load off on a couple of sports cars and trying to get away.
Defend Wingblade: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (1, 3) + 1 = 5
Alexis comes to Wingblade's aid as she attempts to hold Velo down. But the feathered raptor girl whips her tail back and prevents her from getting close enough, as Alexis tumbles back and hangs on desperately to the Jeep's windshield to avoid falling off.
There's only a minute to spare before the semitruck drives off the highway - What Do You Do?
THE KILT
Kilt wasn’t usually nervous around heights. In this moment though...?
OH F+%& OH F~@! OH F~@~ OH-!!!
”UH, WINGBLADE!? A LITTLE HELP IF YA’ WOULD LASS!”
The winged woman begins her dive.
SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT-!!!
”WINGBLADE!?!”
Then he sees that the cab is unoccupied. Another idea pops into his head. ...to whoever’s deciding how many of these Ow movies they’re making, please don’t make this a trilogy! He releases his hold on the woman’s mouth, shifts his dagger over to the newly free hand, and thrusts the blade directly into her shoulder. ”RIGHT TURN DOLL! THIS IS MY STOP!”
Unleash My Piloting: 2d6 - 1 ⇒ (4, 1) - 1 = 4
...uh-oh. +1 potential, but I have the distinct impression I just did an impression of a mosquito hitting the windshield.
Alexandra E. Walker
Alexandra gets out ehr crossbow, no point in hiding it anymore, and point it toward the sky, trying to figure out how to stop the lizard from using shaun as landing gear.
then the word Doll comes out of his mouth as excessive volume, and Alexandra decided he'll be fine, and Wingblade seems in more danger. she takes a potshot at Velo, deciding she doesn't look armoured enough to justify using explosives, so she hoped the dart penetrated
Directly engage: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 5) = 7
Avoid
afterwards, she ducks back into the limo, using it as cover and nods to Kaoru
You doing okay? She asks
Kaoru Miyamoto
Kaoru looks vaguely annoyed as the random armored dude ruins her perfectly executed ploy. But I guess I can't argue with the results... She nods at Alexandra. "Yup, I'm fine." Which is more than I can say for Alexis' face and dress or possibly for Bronwyn. I should've been paying more attention and grabbed her! A look of guilt crosses her face. "We get everyone on the limo? Is so, we should go back and find Bronwyn. She fell off, and I'm not sure if she's ok." She pulls out her phone to begin trying to call the other girl.
Which is to say that Kaoru definitely cares more about finding/helping Bronwyn than some random civilians. :x
