Dox of the ParaDox twins |
Hi all. Just a simple question since I'm lacking ideas. I can go into detail about the lore of the race if asked. But I'd really rather not.
Ability mods: +2int +2dex -2str
Size: small
Type: humanoid
Base speed: 20ft
Langauges: common, aklo
Darkvision: 60ft
Telepathy: 30ft
Shards of knowledge: +2 to two knowledge skills. They are both class skills for you
Sleep immunity: immune to magical sleep effects
Detect magic: constant SLA
So yeah. What would you build with this race.
Thanks all

Telepathy could make charms and language-dependent spells easier to use; say hi to a psychic?
Or if spellcasting isn't your cup of tea as your previous enquiries suggest, a psychometrist vigilante with lethal grace has uses for both Int and Dex.
Psychic is really interesting, psychometrist is neat, I've never seen it before. thanks.
also it's not that I dislike casting, I just happen to be building more martials at the moment

So, suggestion if you're still taking them.
Mouser
How about taking advantage of that small size?
EDIT: I can't get this damn HTML to work properly, its the Mouser Swashbuckler archetype.

Always taking suggestions, cant have too many character ideas, thanks

I have an invisible Ninja sniper this would be good for.
1Fighter: Precise Shot
2F1Ninja1: Sneak Attack 1d6
3F1N2: Ki Pool, Ninja Vanishing Trick, Extra Trick: Rogue Talent: False Attacker
So this character can turn Invisible as a Swift Action then shoot you, as a Standard Action because he is Invisible, and that means your targets don't get their Dex Mods against you. You become visible again immediately, so what you do is instead of shooting on your first round, you use Stealth to find a hidy-hole to shoot from. Maintaining Stealth under those circumstances imposes a -20 on your check, but with False Attacker, you automatically succeed if you make a simple Stealth Check; your opponent thinks the attack came from somewhere else.
The question is where to go next with this character. With even 1 level in Sorcerer, Wizard, or Arcanist, you can use Magic Wands such a a Wand of Scorching Ray, so you make Ranged Touch Attacks vs Flatfooted AC that lock in your Sneak Attack Damage. If you take 3 levels in Wizard and another level in Ninja, you can start taking levels in Arcane Trickster.
4F1N2Wizard1
5F1N3W1: Deadly Aim, Sneak Attack 2d6
6F1N3W2
7F1N3W3: Accomplished Sneak Attacker, Sneak Attack 3d6
8F1N3W3Arcane Trickster...
Another way to go to be a magic thief might be Vivisectionist Alchemist. You might dip a level in Snakebite Striker Brawler to get an extra +1d6 SA Damage and +1 BAB. You might get your Ranged Touch Attacks with a level in Gunslinger or Arcanist.
Well... what is the race?
It might inform my advice to know that as well.
For instance, what is Telepathy? You know, in game terms.

Telepathy is exactly what it sounds like. The ability to communicate silently with anyone which shares a language. Probably worded that horribly. But yeah.
Arcane trickster is something I never would have thought of. That's really cool
So, it allows voluntary communication, not mind reading, and it's 1 power, not a family of powers. Can you use it as often as you want? Does it have a range? It sounds like the ideal complement to the powers of a magic invisible ninja sniper.

I'm also very curious to know what the race is. I'd never mock anyone for what they choose to play. It's not my cup of tea, but I once played in a My Little Pony campaign, because one of our table mates was a fan with a dream.
Anyway, for something different, I saw an inquisitor, ranger, slayer, or maybe archer cavalier/samurai. Something that hunts and pursues specific foes or prey. The telepathy, is good for coordinating efforts quietly on the hunt. The constant detect magic and dark vision aid in pursuit of more esoteric kinds of prey.
Also, the Int boost makes the inquisitor's monster knowledges that much more effective.

Well, some people just suck. By Gray Alien, I'm assuming you mean the other popular alien concept that parallels or substitutes for "little green men" amongst UFO and alien enthusiaists? (My spelling is terrible today)
Not my particular brand of interest or fandom, but there's nothing wrong with it. I like a smidge more fantasy or exoticness in my aliens, so I go more towards Star Trek or Wars. But, the possibility of real, intelligent , alien life having come to our world is a fun theory to explore.
Could even still fit with the hunter types I put out. But, now a certain style of vigilante seems possibly appropriate too.

I'm so confused. A playable race of grays is worthy of mockery...how? That sounds awesome!
A lost traveler of the void, crashed on a distant planet, trying to rebuild it's star ship and return home.
Or maybe it's a play on faerie-stories. The fae used to steal babies from their cribs. Now it's aliens that abduct people. So...is it just a strange coincidence, or are they the same entities, interpreted through the filter of the time?
(To answer the OP, a rogue seems like a solid choice, but after your explanation, I feel like an alchemist is just an amazing story opportunity. Trying to rebuild lost technology, etc.)

Once one learns that that was the first book series I ever started for myself, and purchased, read, and saved them all start to series end, is it any wonder that Druid is my favorite class (at least conceptually)?
Andalites would probably be a +2 Int, +2 Dex, -2 Con race. I love the species, but I'm starting to find that stat combo rather boring.
They'd need telepathy; a perception bonus and flanking immunity or at least mitigation for the stalk eyes; a custom slashing tail attack (maybe with reach or an initiative boost or DR bypass).
Bonus for fine manipulation skills (instruments, disable device, certain crafts), but penalty to grip strength because of the many fine fingers. Maybe must wield all weapons as one category up with a penalty on two handed. So, light and 1 hand, 1 handed as 2.
Vulnerability to injected toxins. Not sure how to make them eating through their hooves relevant. Maybe a food needs reduction as long as traveling over any plant based terrain.
Favored classes Alchemist, Investigator, or is Artificer still a thing?

I don't know dawg, you can find my old thread if you look hard enough, I'll probably post this build of the race along with its alt racial features in the homebrew forum soon if you want to check it out

On the original topic: The race doesn't really have defining characteristics relevant enough to affect class/build selection beyond the ability scores, size, and speed.
• Speed 20 means that, depending on the starting level and group, melee builds without a speed boost might struggle. Especially those that want to get into specific positions, e.g. Rogue.
• -2 Str +2 Dex leans towards dex-based builds without str-to-dmg - dex-to-damage, firearms, Alchemist's bombs, Kineticist's blasts, or anything caster. Archery still works, too.
• +2 Int leans towards one of the int-based casters (or alchemical classes), or one of the martials that don't use mental ability scores much (Barbarian, Fighter, Rogue, Cavalier, Samurai, Brawler, Slayer, or Vigilante).
• Small size doesn't actually change much, I mainly mention it because people tend to vastly overrate it.
The flavor makes me think psychic casting. Since you said you'd prefer martials, maybe Mindblade Magus, Occultist, or Psychic Detective Investigator?
I'm so confused. A playable race of grays is worthy of mockery...how?
Well, to be honest, the posts in the thread in question don't really look like mockery to me. One guy voiced his disliking of the flavor a tad gruffly, but in text-base communication I would be hesitant to read much into that.
It's not my cup of tea, but I once played in a My Little Pony campaign, because one of our table mates was a fan with a dream.
I sincerely believe that if the system is sound, and the players are fun people to play with, pretty much any setting can be enjoyable.
