Looks like 2nd Edition doesn't give you much way of getting bonus damage for a charge, unless you load up a Jousting weapon (Lance is the only one that has that property right now) with a bunch of Striking Runes, and even then the Jousting damage bonus will just make up for the decrease in damage die size due to one-handing it instead of two-handing it.

Rhino Hide is weird, because while THAT lets you do extra damage on a Sudden Charge, it requires you to be NOT heavily armored, so it doesn't work for heavily armored Knights that you would think of as being the scariest Lancers.

Had a silly optimization idea regarding the Aldori Duelist build in the guide. See, the Aldori Duelist Dedication means you are as proficient with the Aldori dueling sword as you are with your highest proficiency weapons. That being the case, you get all the benefits of higher proficiency with the Aldori dueling sword, even if you don't specialize in Swords at 5th level, right? Also, the Swords category doesn't have a thrown weapon, but Axes or Hammers do. Finally, you take Aldori Duelist Dedication at Level 2, and don't get Fighter Weapon Mastery until 5. Is there an advantage to choosing Swords instead of Axes or Hammers in a build with Aldori Duelist Dedication, or would it be better to cheese it and have your master swordsman character actually specialized in Hammers instead, for throwing light hammers at full bonus?

I love your guides. I've learned so much from them.

I have created a guide to the Second Edition Fighter.

HERE IS THE FIRST DRAFT. I would appreciate your comments and corrections.

Enjoy!

FYI, I also have a guide to the Second Edition Wizard HERE.

Great Job and Thanks.

Had a Fighter Build in mind and used your guide to flesh him out.

Will be playing a Polearm Half-Orc Fighter with the Marshall Dedication in Abomination Vaults.

Next I was thinking of playing a Swashbuckler. Do you have any plans of making a guide for that?

Thanks.

Why not have them specialize in Bows? Dueling Swords are finesse weapons, so you can start a fight with some shots with a longbow and then draw your curling sword when enemies close in, with both methods of attack being equally as accurate.

If Tarondor ever peeks back in here, Great stuff! Any thoughts on some more recent options, like the Wrestler archetype?

I was looking at the Archer Archetype. Torandor has it orange and calls it a feat tax. I mostly agree with that, with a big caveat.

The fighter at 5th level gains Fighter Weapon Mastery and chooses a group of weapons to increase to Master.

Similarly, at 13th level gains Weapon Legend and chooses a group of weapons to increase to Legendary.

If you select something like the Archer archetype from the APG it gives you the equivalent highest proficiency in the Bow Weapon Group.

So at 5th level if you select Sword for your weapon group, both Swords and Bows increase to Master. At 13th level if you select sword, both Swords and Bows increase to Legendary.

I think this should be at least green because of this trick to get two weapon groups upgraded earlier. It's essentially a +2 to hit.

Alternatively, why not specialise in the "shield" weapon group? Only Aldori Parry requires you to have a free hand, while the rest of the weapon archetype works very well without one...
