What is the argument for the SEASON BOON (YEAR OF SCOURED STARS) being a capstone boon? It's in its own section, not in the capstone boon section, and it's called a season boon, not a capstone boon.

It says right in the text describing the Season Boon that it is a Capstone boon.
Throughout the course of the first season of the Starfinder Society Roleplaying Guild (Starfinder Society Scenarios #1–01 to #1–39), players have the chance to collect several unique boons relating to the primary storyline associated with the season. These boons, titled “Journey to the Scoured Stars: Segments 1–8,” each contribute to a single Capstone boon associated with Season 1. Any player can purchase this boon if they meet the prerequisites listed below.
The question is whether or not the wording was intentional. Was it intended that no PC who bought or benefited from a Capstone boon could take the season boon? Or was it a case of someone using the word "capstone" to mean "the crowning achievement" without remembering that word triggers specific limitations for SFS boons?

I would say that this is quite disappointing for me, as that basically makes me have to choose between getting to play a Ghibrani, or giving my Envoy a much needed buff. That already means my Mechanic who technically gets some mechanical benefit from Rising Star (the potential to be written into the campaign) can't buy it, even though he did most of the legwork in earning the parts. My Exo Guardian Soldier and Dataphile Operative also have to choose between benefiting personally from the seasonal capstone, or buying a faction capstone for the benefit of some other character.

This is one of the many times I wish the PFS/SFS forums had a FAQ button. I have several local players who will be wanting to know the answer to this.

I believe it's an issue where the word "Capstone" was used within the boon text which isn't intended to "type" it but instead was being used within the context of it being a capstone of larger efforts.
The TL;DR: being "the word capstone has a specific meaning with boons" and now it's generating confusion :P

A character can purchase only a single capstone boon during his or her career. A new character receiving the benefits of a capstone boon can only ever benefit from one capstone boon (though he can still purchase a capstone boon when he qualifies).

So what's the difference between a "capstone" and a "Capstone?" The capitalization is throwing me off. The actual capstone rules don't capitalize it, so is the Season 1 boon Capstone just a name (and therefore not actually a "capstone" for the purposes of the faction finale rules)? These are the things that keep my English major brain up at night.
I was considering a career change for my -707 from Shock & Awe Soldier to Experimental Armor Mechanic once COM is sanctioned, but this character happened to receive my Exo-Guardians capstone from my -701; without being able to apply a +2 to Intelligence, it throws the whole plan into question.
The extra weird thing is that capstones originated as something you buy for your next character; the Season 1 boon is something you buy for yourself, so it throws off all sorts of calculations.

I think you need to look at the whole section:
CAPSTONE BOONS
In addition to the boons presented above, each faction has
access to a unique Reputation Tier 4 boon that grants a truly
special benefit.
Special: A character can purchase only a single capstone
boon during his or her career. A new character receiving the
benefits of a capstone boon can only ever benefit from one
capstone boon (though he can still purchase a capstone boon
when he qualifies). A new character who benefits from any of
the following capstone boon effects does not have to meet the
prerequisites listed in the boon.
Capstone boons are first defined as unique tier 4 boons. Then we get a "special" subsection adding some limitations to them.
When we get a new section titled "Season Boon". You would think that this is a new definition scope that has nothing to do with capstone boons. But yeah, you get that weird capitalized Capstone in the middle of the text.
My take is that the capitalization is an accident and that Season Boons != Capstone Boons.

Thurston Hillman wrote:I'll clarify this in the next iteration of the guide. It should be not a "Capstone Boon" per the existing faction capstone boons.Thank you for clarifying that, Thursty. Saved me some distress. Maybe call it a "Culmination" boon instead!
Or maybe "Finisher", kinda like those mudrun t-shirts. The PF2 playtest showed that we should avoid having too many polysyllabic C-words :P

There are 2 or 3 online opportunities to run 2-00 this year, via PbP and VTT.
Thanks, I was a little confused when I read that requirement in the guide because it made it sound like the tag was a bit more common than just he big convention modules.

If PFS 1e is used as precedent, there will definitely be other "special" scenarios in the future. However, there are no additional scenarios that I am aware of at this time.

What is unfortunate is that they changed their minds and will not allow GMs who ran 1-00 at Gencon when Starfinder came out as a special towards the 5-Novas.

I'm on my weekend, but since this is just devolving into #RampantSpeculation
I'll make an official post later when I'm not alt-tabbed from a Warframe run :PFor now. This is a player-based boon. It can be applied to _any_ character. There is only one version of this boon per player (Playing or GMing ). You also apply the effect IMMEDIATELY and it does not grow if you later collect more (choose activation time wisely).
Just collected my last remaining of the Journey boons, so was looking to buy this Season Boon ... and am running into the same question that motivated much of this thread. I can't find Thursty's follow-up post, if he ever made it, but I have a slightly different question than the one that was posed here:
Does the "All Factions Tier 3" requirement apply to the character who receives the boon, or does the "It can be applied to _any_ character" mean that so long as I have a total of 25 Reputation on a character (or across all characters), I as a player qualify for the boon and can then apply it to any character?
I assume the 8 Fame has to be paid by the character who receives the boon.

I can't find a followup post either, but based on the discussion that took place before this post, I'm pretty sure what Thursty is saying is that it doesn't matter which character has the chronicles. Sum up the total number of different Scoured Stars segments you have across all your characters. Everything else is like a standard boon.
So each of my characters that buys it has to (individually) have All Factions Tier 3. And spend the required Fame (8 for the first character and 24 for any other characters that buy it).
But I can see how Thursty's post could be read as making the reputation requirement a "group effort." Pretty sure that's not the intention, but the grammar is imprecise.

I have a question about the Season Boon.
Prerequisites: All Factions Tier 3; at least four of the Journey to the Scoured Stars segment boons Cost: 8 Fame (24 on subsequent purchases)
Benefit: When you select this boon for a character, pick one of the following to apply to your character immediately:
• You gain 1 extra Resolve Point. If you've collected all eight segments, then this increases to 2 Resolve Points.
• You gain 1 extra Hit Point for every character level you have. If you have collected all eight segments, then this increases to 2 Hit Points for every level you have.
• You can select a single saving throw (Fortitude, Reflex, or Will) and increase your bonus to that save by 1. If you have collected six or seven segments, then you can select one of the remaining two saves to increase, and if you've collected all eight segments, then you instead increase all your saves by 1.
• If you've collected all eight segments, then you can increase one of your ability scores that is currently 16 or lower by 2.Special: When you first apply this boon to a character, it costs 8 Fame. You can apply this boon only once to a given character. Subsequent purchases of this boon for different characters cost 24 Fame.
So... Theoretically if I have all 8 segments I can get +1 to all saves and +2 to attribute that is 16 or lower? Or does selecting the attribute mean that I cannot boost the saves?
