Iruxi is pronounced the way Gabe said it.

At least, that's how I've been saying the word since 1990, when I made it up for my homebrew when I realized I needed a name for lizard people that wasn't "lizardman."

Gabe was super paranoid about pronouncing it wrong in the stream, so we had an Iruxi Pronunciation Session before-hand.

In any event, "iruxi" is the name the lizardfolks know themselves as, just as we humans are "humans" and not "monkeyfolks." Or "caligni" for the dark folk, or "xulgath" for troglodytes, etc. ALL of the "...folk" people will have proper names going forward. The word "iruxi" is mentioned and supported in the Bestiary entry for lizardfolk, in any event, so it won't be confusing to folks once 2nd edition comes along.

Awesome!

What about halflings?

They're still called halflings. That's not something that got solved in time for the Core Rulebook, alas. We'll have some info about their history and names for halfling ethnicities eventually I hope, but it won't be in the Core Rules. Maybe something we can fix in 3rd or 4th or 8th or 32nd or 481st edition. I can't fix everything all at once. :-/

*offers hugs*

Also, "hobbit" is one of the more... well-protected... names for a race. XD

Yeah, that one no touchy.

Do we know if Paizo will release these on YouTube after they’ve been on Twitch? I can’t stand the Twitch interface and don’t think I’ll be able to stomach checking these play sessions out on Twitch.

Actually, does Paizo have a YouTube channel??

Hey Shisumo,

Go for it! I'll try to answer any questions as best I can :)

Thanks much!

My question is this: since Mykah didn't actually finish her formal wizard training, does she actually have a thesis?

OMG I am sorry I dropped the ball so hard on answering this, Shisumo! I was out part of last week because of sickness and moving. x_x

To answer your question, I'm not actually 100% sure. I've got a couple in mind, but I'm going to have to talk to Jason to figure out if anything needs to be tweaked to fit Mykah's story. Sorry that after all this time it's kind of a non-answer. But I'm sure we'll both find out soon enough! :D

Thanks for the answer!

It occurs to me that we probably need to start a new thread in the Second Edition forum to handle the inevitable finely-sliced analysis we will all obsessively do in search of rules info once the game proper begins...

On the stream today, Sara Marie mentioned that her character might still need a last name.

Should Carina want it, the Thunderpike clan would welcome you with open arms. :D

Most of my Dwarves are named Thunderpike, so if nothing else she might have distant relatives out there somewhere playing in Pathfinder Society.

I'm really looking forward to playing a Neutral Good Holy Warrior type character. As I mentioned on the stream, Pharasma is my favorite deity in Golarion's pantheon and I am excited to explore what this means for gameplay.

If you've got a suggestion for a good Dwarven last name or a sweet battle cry, I'm all ears.

Well, for battle cries, I saw a couple of good ones in the chat:

"Don't make me ax you twice!"

"Pharasma wants a word with you!"

And for the last name, why not go back to the Quest for Sky? Skyseeker!

I'm curious if Carina would make up her own last name after the split with her family. So instead of being tied to the family name, she could forge her own identity that reflected her values and goals?

Or maybe claim no clan at all, depending on how angry she was with them.

And in time found her own new clan?

Today's game was great and everyone did an amazing job getting this series started. It is a highlight of my week and something I will look forward to in the weeks and months to come. Stay awesome everyone!!

One thing I am curious about, some of the players mentioned a questionnaire that Jason had them fill out to get them thinking about their character. I was wondering if we could get a copy of that questionnaire because I'm very interested in using something like that for my next game.

Thanks!! And it was an awesome stream!!

Awesome stream. It was good to see you guys didn't just pick the most experienced gamers/roleplayers as the game feels more "real" than alot of streams.

Everyone did an excellent job. So far I'm going to go have to go with Owen's character Qundle as my favorite so far!

Seems like it may have been tailored to each PC based on ancestry and class, since Sara Marie's specifically asked about her dwarf dagger.

I think some of the players are less experienced than others, especially with PF2. Just because you work at Paizo doesn't mean you're a die-hard gamer.

As far as the pregame goes, we all sat down in a group to talk about characters. What roles we were interested in and what roles we'd be comfortable playing for an audience. After that we talked a little bit about the adventure background and how it would start, where the setting was, etc. Jason gave us some questions to start us thinking, and then later followed up with some questions specifically tailored to our characters.

Group Questions: (with some editorializing from me for clarity):

  • What is your character's ancestry?
  • Does your character have a prior relationship with any other characters?
  • What do you see as your character's party role?
  • Describe your character's appearance.

Character Specific Questions:

  • Ustalav is far from Dwarven homelands. Who sent you here to become a champion?
  • The clan knife you carry is not the one that was made to celebrate your birth. Whose is it and what happened to yours?
  • Who is the one person you wish you could apologize to, even though you know you never will?
  • Give me one embarrassing detail about your character.

Once I sent in answers for those, Jason and I emailed back and forth a couple times to reframe some of the questions and my answers, such as no one "sent" Carina from Dwarven homelands; she's in the area because her family is from Lastwall. I really appreciated that the questions were meant as a leaping off point and questions that were setting plot or background in stone.

Hope that helps! It was definitely a fun/enjoyable experience to be able to collaborate with both the GM and the other players for the character backstories.

I'm curious about the answers to these myself, especially the dagger.

I think some of the players are less experienced than others, especially with PF2. Just because you work at Paizo doesn't mean you're a die-hard gamer.

Also, even when you're a die hard gamer, (including when you're one of the people designing the game), you will not always get the rules 100% right 100% of the time, and getting a detail wrong does not prohibit you from having a good time and telling a engaging story.

And when you're starting out with a new edition or new set of rules, there's a learning curve and that's okay.

I talked a little bit about it in my character intro. (Also I get really into background details). Looking at my notes, I think there may have been more questions that I can't find at the moment because I have bullet points for her family, rivals, her childhood, her formative experiences, personality, etc.

Here's the final text I gave Jason for the question about the clan dagger.

Carina's Backstory wrote:

As she entered into adulthood and prepared to take the Oath to the Tribune of Faith, Carina began to question how much of her life she had chosen, and how much had been shaped and directed by her parents. Standing at the precipice of a major life decision, unable to see a clear future for herself, Carina happened to hear of a small group of clerics of Pharasma who were looking for a few folks to provide them with security as they toured through Lastwall on a holy mission. They were on a budget and happy to enlist someone with minimal combat training who’s salary demands would be more cost effective.

Carina made up her mind to join their band for a year or so to experience the world separate from the influences of her family. However, when she discussed this with her parents, they were furious. They’d just expended social capital to secure her a very nice position as soon as she received her Shield-Mark and it was not an opportunity that would wait for her to return from “finding herself”. Angry and hurt by her parents lack of acceptance, and believing they cared more about worldly achievements for the family than the spiritual health of their daughter, Carina decided to leave with the clerics anyway. She waited until the cover of darkness to sneak out her families’ estate, only to be stopped by Teveh (her older sister), who was disappointed Carina was not only throwing away the opportunity her parents had secured, but leaving in an underhanded manner, without even saying goodbye.

The two sisters got into a bitter argument that ended with a nasty physical fight. It was the first time the two clashed that wasn’t for training or show. Teveh handily won and in a moment of heated anger, she stripped Carina’s clan dagger from her. Shocked, but stubbornly refusing to concede, Carina defiantly stood her ground. Teveh spit out the most cutting thing she could think of and turned her back on Carina. As Teveh’s footsteps faded into the night, Carina’s heart sank. She silently wiped away her tears and began to walk away when her little sister Nekoh ran out from the shadows. She hugged Carina tightly while choking back sobs. Wordlessly she unstrapped her own clan dagger from her belt and pressed it into Carina’s hands.

I thought you were joking about "Dwarf son of Dwarf" being a spoiler.

I do now want to play literally Dwarf son of Dwarf and turn him into an interesting character.
