Theory craft assistance Critical focused TWF Warpriest

Advice

Hi all. Need help with a theory craft. As the title says, I have gotten a critical hit focused Warpriest in my head. So far I have him twfing with weapon finesse and then getting some crit feats at 9+ I am not sure what to do with my feats at 3 and one I get at 6 though. Also, direction on diety and blessings would be nice. Right now I have down Kurgess for Strength and Community. I would really like to get Scaly-Kind, but I feel like the are not any playable deities that offer it.

Here is my current feat tree:

Feats
1 Weapon Focus: Kukri Weapon Finesse Two weapon fighting
3 Two weapon defense? Combat reflexes?
6 Improved Two Weapon Fighting Vital strike?
9 Improved Critical Critical Focus
12 Greater Two Weapon Fighting Critical Versatility
15 Critical Staggering Critical Bleeding
18 Critical Mastery Critical Censoring

Right now I am planning on Warpriest straight through, but I am open to other thoughts a well.

If you're getting vital strike but no further feats in that line, you've wasted a feat. On the other hand if you go with Kurgess there's an occasionally fun feat you might like, intrepid rescuer. Or perhaps bodyguard if you might have someone else on the front line with you.

It's only the bonus feats you get as a class feature which count as full BAB, level=fighter level as I understand it. You're a 3/4 BAB class otherwise which may cause some problems with your plan. Also, remember that you do get feats at levels like 5, 7, 11, 13 and 17. PF gives feats at all odd levels rather than D&D 3.x's every 3rd level. If you were assuming the latter, you can still get the number of feats you planned due to a warpriest's bonus feats and a human warpriest's alternate favored class bonus option of a combat feat every 6 levels. You'll just have 5 more feats to pick.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

You want another power attack or piranhas strike. Weapon focus. Weapon specialization. Hammer The Gap. Martial focus (maybe)

Dark Archive

Blighted Critical
Blind-Fight
Combat Reflexes
Critical Focus
Critical Mastery
Critical Versatility
Greater Two-Weapon Fighting
Greater Weapon Focus: Kukri
Greater Weapon Specialization: Kukri
Hammer the Gap
Improved Critical: Kukri
Improved Two-Weapon Fighting
Modified Weapon Proficiency
Power Attack
Two-Weapon Fighting
Two-Weapon Rend
Weapon Finesse
Weapon Focus: Kukri
Weapon Specialization: Kukri

Still 2 more feats to take. Improved blind fight and greater blind fighting maybe

Slashing grace and 2 weapon grace good too. Or get agile enchanted on the kukris

Silver Crusade

Critical Versatility is a trap on a Warpriest. Warpriests count as full BAB only for the purposes of the bonus feats. This means that, while at 12th level they count as BAB +12 for the purposes of qualifying for Critical Versatility, they still have only BAB +9 for the purposes of critical feats they can choose through to Critical Versatility.

Stats: 7 18+2 14 11 14 7
Traits: Fate's Favored, Seeker
Feats:

Bonus feats
Bonus feats at full BAB/Fighter level
Bonus feats at full BAB/Fighter level from Human FCB

1- Weapon Finesse, Weapon Focus (Kukri), Slashing Grace
3- Piranha Strike, TWF
5- Two Weapon Grace
6- Weapon Specialisation (Kukri), iTWF
7- Double Slice
9- Lunge (or anything else), i Critical > retrain to Critical Focus at 11th lvl, or pick Critical Focus now and just wait 2 levels for i Critical
11- i Critical
12- gTWF, use the FCB to get +1hp or skill rank
13- Hammer the Gap (or anything else), delayed FCB feat > Staggering Critical
15- Bleeding Critical, Critical Mastery
17- Two-Weapon Rend (or anything else)
18- Stunning Critical

Since retraining is not always seen in a good light by many GMs and players (apart from being extremely difficult to pull off in fast paced campaigns), I've tried to keep retrains at virtually zero. The only retrain is at level 9 to be able to get improved Critical (arguably your main feat) asap, but if it's not possible the build stands, but you simply need to wait 2 levels.

Warpriest can do a ton of interesting things beyond just TWF kukri fishing, considering all their abilities and Archetypes. The Champion of the Faith Warpriest is great for TWF, since it replaces Sacred Weapon enhancement with a Smite ability.

It might work better to just go strength-based with the 17DEX needed to do TWF well. Warpriest has no problem wearing armor for AC, and needing two Agile weapons is a massive nuisance. Warpriest has enough feats to cover spreading ability scores thinner pretty easily.

For a TWF build, having tripping and Felling Smash can be extremely useful when unable to full attack.

For a truly Savage crit-damage build, consider a Sacred Fist of Magdh using classic Flurry of Blows with a Crusader's Flurry scythe. Up to six scythe striker per round before level 10.

Thanks for the help guys. I rebuilt my feat tree to make sure I had the feats on the right levels. I think is much better.

Thoughts?

Probably try to get 2 cold steel kukris, by my reading they are by far the best of the material mastery benefits.

As a warpriest you have two types of feats: the feats you get via the bonus feat class feature, and everything else. The former you can pick as if you had full BAB and had fighter levels equal to your warpriest levels, the latter you pick using your real BAB (3/4) and no fighter levels unless you're multiclassed.

Also you can't delay feats, though it is possible to retrain them if you have time and a teacher.

Here's how the feats might go with that constraint:

1: W. Focus, W. Finesse, TWF
3: Piranha strike, modified weapon prof.
5: Double slice (required for two-weapon rend - drop this if a poor feat for 10 levels seems too much & retraining is not available)
6: W. Spec., weapon versatility
7: Martial focus
9: GW. Focus, improved TWF
11: Lunge
12: Greater TWF, critical focus
13: Weapon material mastery
15: Staggering critical, two-weapon rend
17: Difficult swings
18: Stunning critical, blind-fight
19: improved blind-fight

There is one way I can delay feats...I get 1/6 of a bonus feat as an FCB for being human. I can get to 5/6 and then not take that FCB until I want that feat...that is what I am doing to delay the 12th level FCB bonus feat to level 13.

I did miss the two weapon rend prereq though...that is a good call out.

If human, hElf, or hOrc, use the human favored class bonus to get a bonus feat. But rather than work towards the bonus feat right off the bat at level 1, don't start taking the 1/6th of a bonus feat until 3rd level so you can get Improved Critical at the very earliest possible at 8th.

Personally I recommend half orc for the sacred tattoo/fates favored combo and worship Gorum for the destruction blessing and war or stength blessing. At 11th level you can get quicken blessing to get 1/2 your WP level as bonus damage as a swift action.

Double Slice is not a great feat, but a couple extra points of damage in your offhand can help a lot at lower levels. Also, it is a prereq for two weapon rend which can be picked up at 12th level, which is really nice extra damage.

Personally I wouldn't recommend hammer the Gap as it doesn't add consistent damage. You're better off just sticking with power attack/piranha strike, divine favor, and destruction blessing.
