Got into a talk about old TV shows people would like to see rebooted. Of course some of the obvious ones came up like Firefly, Farscape, Babylon 5, Buffy, Xena, Darkwing Duck etc...
but then the really old obscure stuff starts to show up; Things like Forever Knight, War of the Worlds and "Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future"
So I just figured I'd see what I can dig out of the minds of folks around here and what do you think is worth ressurecting

Anyone remember Brisco County Jr.?
I almost added it to my list. I loved it as a kid, however, a number of years ago I got the DVDs from netflix and it wasn't so rosy. I do love the pilot, but I think its all down hill afterwards for ol Brisco.

I'd love to see a new attempt at Cleopatra 2525.
The thing is, you'd have to do without Cleopatra. Or at least totally rewrite her.
Cleopatra 2525 was a whacky low-budget dystopic future sci-fi made in the year 2000 that involved an asskicking Gina Torres in ridiculously tight polyvinyl (Zoe from Firefly is a total ripoff of Hel in slightly more sensible clothing). It was made by the same folks who made Xena and Hercules and aired in the same hour as that Bruce Campbell show where he was someone back in a vague prior period of history. Jack of all Trades, I think it was called.
Cleopatra 2525 was cheesy as f!~$ with some fairly bad dialogue, but yet it also had a huge amount going for it. The world-build was really interesting--basically sort of a future where a Skynet-like machine entity won and the humans who survived dwelled in this vast underground city that went miles deep. It had this big cyberpunk feel. The main characters were a Birds-of-Prey-like trio of rebels who were guided by an Oracle-esque "Voice" whom they never met, who were out to save humanity. It had a ridiculously so-bad-it's-awesome theme song and did I mention Gina Torres?
The main problem with the show (aside from no budget and less marketing) was the main character, unfortunately. Cleopatra was accidentally brought from the past to the future in a weird Futurama-esque-like storyline; she was basically this nice but ditzy weirdo who was supposed to help these awesome utterly badass chicks save the world because of reasons that were never particularly apparent. The character was annoying, badly written, and sadly, very poorly acted. Moreover, there was no point to the character being from the past--save as an exposition convenience, which I don't think was necessary. I'm not sure why her name was Cleopatra as neither she nor the show was in any way a callback to the Egyptian queen. (Well except that it was the girl's stripper name, but I remember seeing the title and thinking it would be like ancient Egypt but the future, and it wasn't.)
I'd love to see a reboot that entirely eliminated the dumb-chick-from-the-past storyline and focused on a trio of badass possibly cyborg chicks trying to save humanity from the tyranny of machines in a dystopic underground cyber-dungeon-city. You could always rename "Voice" "Cleopatra" as a reason for the name of the show.

I'd also dig a new "Pirates of Dark Water." Live action, even! That cartoon had an amazing world to it.
I definitely get wanting to change the Cleopatra character from Cleo2525 but for me that was always part of the charm. Some shows just need an element of "what the hell is going on here?" Reminds me of Stanley from Lexx.
Back to good pilots and crappy seasons, I guess I'd put Sledge Hammer! in the same boat as Brisco County Jr. I just thoroughly enjoyed the theme of Naked Gun meets Dirty Harry.
I'd love to see another Farscape run. I think the show suffered from constant re-direction of writing. Though it was one of the few Sci-Fi shows that made aliens feel alien. I was excited at first for Defiance, but it turned out to be much worse in the writing department than Farscape ever was.

I gather new Animaniacs is incoming along with Pinky and the Brain. Unfortunately it'll be a WB subscription Streaming service
I don't actually want a remake of it, but I wish Shadowchasers would come out on DVD.
And that TVLand, or MeTV, or some similar channel would dig up The Second Hundred Years.
But who do we get to voice Captain planet? Don Cheadle or Ted Turner?

Captain Future
A Science fiction anime show that seems to be known mostly in Japan, Germany and France. It is actually a pretty good show, even by todays standards. As far as I know a couple of German filmmakers who have done a cool low budget science fiction movie before got the rights for a llife action Captain future but are still looking for a studio.
The Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers which I try to rewatch, but I am not sure I can handle the level of 80's involved.

I was introduced to TORG RPG sometime around 2012 (give or take a couple years), and since then I've thought it would make a great TV show - particularly because of the "reality wars" theme that I've come to view as a prescient allegory.
Anyways if they made it, it would be cool if it were done in the artistic styles one would associate with the higher-concept cartoons of the late-80s/early-90s, since that was when TORG was published (yes, I know about the current "reboot", and would love to get in on it). Here's what would be really ingenious, though: Make that style just for the Core Earth cosm, and all the different "invader" cosms, and everyone and everything in them, done in a different, theme-fitting art/animation style - like Drawn Together (back near the beginning when it was good):
Orrorsh: something similar to the style of Edward Gorey
The Living Land: faux-cave paintings
The Nile Empire: 1930s pulp comics (naturally), but specifically with a nod to Ancient Egyptian art
Cyperpapacy: 80s/90s CGI, influenced by High Medieval European art
Aysle: something akin to the late-70s Tolkien movies
Nippon Tech: anime (duh)
Tharkold: something evocative of H.R. Giger
Starsphere: a much more polished version of pre-Columbian Mesoamerican art

This one I agree with (sorry, Vidmaster).
Speaking of awesome theme songs ("Wings of silver, wills of steel, SILVER-HAWWWWWWWKS, partly metal, partly real, SILVER-HAWWWWWWWWWKS"). And this one I think could be remade into either something really gritty or really campy and either would be awesome. What's not to love about winged cyborgs in space? It was a hideously written show and the concept deserves another chance.

The new comic was... decent. It started off strong but went off the rails (they made the Misfits waaaaaaaaaay too nice, and the author tended to just let the status quo return to itself rather than truly deal with any real conflict with lasting consequences). I think a show or movie that was built off the reboot concept used in the comics but plotted by someone who is willing to make things higher stakes would be good.
An actually good live action movie that builds on the sci-fi-ness and... I don't know, starred adults and had a budget, would have been amazing.

Over on the Tor Books site, James Nicoll has written about something tangentially related to this--not reboots, but the creation of new works based on the original concept behind something that wasn't executed well the first time. It's mostly written F&SF, but he includes "The Starlost" as an example.
I'm just gonna keep referencing an entire planet of Mimes. If they experienced a natural disaster would it be real or mimed? maybe they do both? mime it as practice. No one can call out for help and half the population would be stuck in invisible boxes.
Ugh, not the Tick. That show weirded me out as a kid.
And The Venture Brothers is not really a family friendly show.
