ways to get proficient with the whip

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I know I can get it with a feat, I know the Mysterious Avenger can get it, and i know the fighter can get it in the flail weapon group. And half-orcs and hobgoblins have alternative racial traits that give them the ability to be proficient with whips.

is there any other class archetypes that one can dip into to get whip proficiency?

bards, mesmerist, calistrian hunter fighter, calistia faithful ranger style, huntmaster cavalier, spellscar drifter cavalier, warlord fighter, jungle lord ranger, hangman vigilante, cleric, warpriest, inquisitor, or zealot vigilante with deity that favors whips.

Scarab Sages

To add to Jae's list, Kensai magus, Pain Taster prc, and Human Military Tradition will give you both whip and scorpion whip.

thank you Imbicatus I missed that military tradition that's work the bonus feat.

a fighter's Weapon Training (Ex) does it count as proficiency?

No, but if you take weapon training in a group (in this case flails) and then take the "Combat Competence" Advanced Weapon Training, you will be proficient in the entire group when your weapon training bonus becomes 4 (or +2 with gloves of duelling). That's probably less useful than just spending a feat on proficiency in this particular case.

I had to ask. thank you.

Since it hasn't been mentioned yet: Ancestral Arms (Half-elf Alternate Racial Trait).

The Exchange

Not exactly a feat or class - but calistrian priestesses and succubi are likely Handy with a whip....or a riding crop at least.

You could always just spend some quality time learning from them :)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

My favorite way to get Whip Proficiency is with the Caravan Drover Half-Orc racial trait (you can get it via adopted if need be) that makes whips Martial weapons.

That's a good one, but it is a Race Trait not a Racial Trait. Adopted wouldn't let you take it if it was a Racial Trait.

i think some outsiders get free proficiency with it
