The Pathfinder Society Organized Play Team join know direction to talk about the future of PFS and have implied there will be an important announcement.

Rampant speculation on the announcement in 3..2..1...

humans to be banned in season 9

season 8 renamed to "year of the unhappy rogue"

season 9: year of the optional pants

We BC before goblins, set in prehistoric golarion time

humans banned... cool... if I can pick a race to replace my humans... it will all be tieflings / aasimars!

(yes, I love those 2 races)

Let's just hope there are announcements. They have done interviews where they refused to reveal anything in the past.

Ok, somewhere between rampant speculation and a wishlist. . .

I honestly wouldn't mind a bit if the Kitsune, Tengu, Nagaji, and Wayang where retired and something new (OR OLD) where cycled back in.

Possibly an announcement of a Core + style play, allowing a very limited amount of material beyond the CRB, but not even a quarter of what's allowed in Standard PFS.

An announcement that breaks away from the last two Seasons for the upcoming year, which I've generally found very lacking and uninteresting.

A fixed PFS Guide.

The return of the missed Shadow Lodge.

Factions being more powerful and relevant.

The return of the Good Elemental Lords, (and as valid divine Patrons).

Planar Adventures.

A return to the themes of Seasons 0-3, with some wonky things like becoming Undead for a weekend or tackling an ancient "alien" ghost ship or piloting a giant golem.

More mid level, non1-2 replayable scenarios. More options for replay in general.

Holiday Boons.

I would love for a return to the Season 5, where all the adventures were connected to the central goal.

Seasons 6, 7, and 8 have felt too scattershot, which is a giant middle finger to players who want to tailor a PC to the season. (My Numerian Specialist Witch, Aspis-slayer Inquisitor, and Elemental scholar Investigator have all gotten screwed.)

While neat and nifty stuff in a scenario is cool, it's also problematic as if it deviates TOO much from fantasy then folks get a bit upset, as well as if the rules are too convoluted and take an entire session to figure out.

Miss Holiday boons but understand why they aren't more common -- some of us have to WORK for a living and can't just 'play on the holiday at the drop of a dime', which makes it difficult.

The idea of the rest of First Steps being brought back, Bigger, Badder, with More Awesome might be a thought, or some of the retired scenarios given the upgrade treatment -- They do exist, because they've been showcased at PaizoCon and other venues...

And we definitely need moar Hats.

In fact, there's a whole history of otyugh in Korvosa who were brought in and effectively enslaved... could Hats join Liberty's Edge, become the new faction lead, and send the Pathfinders on adventures to liberate them??

EDIT:

Other 'fun ideas':

L11 Iconics to allow folks to pregen into higher content without being a detriment to folks what wanna play up.

More post-12 content, including some more L18-20 bridges?

I think they've been really good with the themes this season. Outside of the callback scenarios every other one has had some significant tie or potential tie to the other planes.

There's already enough impetus to specialize characters, without needing a season theme that caters to one. The number of aasimar paladins during Year of the Demon was ridiculous. Pathfinders are supposed to be versatile and resourceful, and take whatever mission they're assigned. YMMV, of course, but a specialized theme can make it difficult for those of us who don't want to play specialized, tailored-to-the-theme characters.

Factions are great for flavor, and I like the fact that now missions are season-wide and not "go to this place no one's been to in ten thousand years, and pick up a Taldan tea set that belonged to my mother that just happens to have been put there." Some of those old scenarios are in fact hard to run without giving out the faction missions, since there is so much information contained therein.

I'm currently at no stars. I would probably be a two or three star by GenCon IF...

...they announced that they were pulling the races out, or it was hinted at I'd be stuck with one of three unpalatable options:

1. Stop playing PFS.

2. Run forty gazillion 'evergreens' to build up a 'Tengu Reserve' (Hey, assimar and Teeflings were allowed to do that, right?)

Spoiler:
They really weren't supposed to be, but that's the impression I've gotten of what happened?

3. Scrape up every single Raven-blooded Boon that's out there and grip them in a completely non-community type fashion.

Why do we need to *remove* races? Shouldn't the goal be 'working towards more inclusion', not 'restriction'?

I am all for building a wall across the crown of the world and reducing our race selection accordingly.

And then get Tian Xia to pay for it.

For the older scenarios, I tend to give out the missions. I explain that doing them has no effect on prestige.

During a run of Infernal Vault, our GM gave us the faction missions as if they were active, to give us a 'feel' for what would be needed to accomplish them 'the old way', then gave us each a new Faction Card for comparison while explaining what the distinction was.

It was a nice bit of history and sense of perspective.

If you run forty evergreens you end up with 40 level 2 characters. You do not need 40 level 2 characters.

I still want to see We Be 5pace Goblins!, but perhaps that will be next year after Starfinder is released. We can't expect a WBG every year.

A replayable Free RPG Day scenario featuring the Occult Adventures iconics would be very cool to see. Something set in Pathfinder, but using Starfinder monsters sounds more likely, which would go well with the First Contact product being compatible with both systems.

For past convention specials, we have We Be Aspis, We Be Aspis 2, We Be Elementals, and We Be Kobolds. Since Crystal Frasier announced how she likes a variety of oozes on a previous Know Direction podcast, I want to see a We Be Ooze special! :)

If you run forty evergreens you end up with 40 level 2 characters. You do not need 40 level 2 characters.

That's operating under the basic *yet flawed* premise that one would selfishly want to run nothing *but* 3-pt modules for that.

Scenarios give one point, and aside from which, that's the legendry that has grown of the Great Assimar Growth Frenzy (my term for it).

And there may not be a *need* for 40 characters under 'normal permissive conditions' but if restrictions go in place, that becomes a very valuable resource...

Wei Ji the Learner wrote:

Need is always a strong word in these situations, but I do want races more restricted.

When I first got into PFS one of the selling points was that Golarion was a human-centrist world and wasn't into the "Alien-Cantina" vibe of Living Forgotten Realms. Slowly over the last five years PFS has drifted far from that. Which means that the Organized Play system that I've GMed over 200 games for and spent way more money then I should have to support, is no longer one I like to be apart of. Core play doesn't work for me, because I like classes.

So what you see as inclusion, is seen as exclusion for some.

Now I doubt that what I want [only core race without a boon], or even a compromise of what I want [small list of rotating open races and limited boon access to racial boons] is ever actually going to happen because the trend of the campaign has been less restrictive.

Personally when I first started boons where far rarer and racial boons even more so. Those rewards seemed special, now I tend to just hand boons I've earned out to people because they're neither as special nor rare.

[With one boon exception for me that isn't a charity boon, but is rare and treasured]

I guess the summary of it all is that some people want a play style that is closer to what PFS was years ago, and that means that the rules of the game would be more restrictive rather then less so.

As i often joke to some of the younger players, if you just consider core (which is not that different from 3.5) i've been playing longer than they've been alive. I've pretty much done everything i'd want to with the standard races.

On a more serious note, a special using pregen characters from the Pathfinder Tales novels would be very interesting. It could also tie in to the announced character decks for the Adventure Card Game by bringing the stories of those characters to a wider audience who may not read the novels.

As I mentioned in the post, no.

But to expand, I don't care for hard-mode PFS. I like being able to be saved, or to save character by using First Aid Gloves. I like having items that that mitigate the negative effects of Save or Suck spells, and I like classes because some of the core classes don't stack up well with other core classes. I found appeal min the human-centric Golarion that once existed.

BigNorseWolf wrote:

Locally to me, nearly 0. Only two people locally went out of their way to exploit the planetouch baby boom as you called it and those players weren't well received locally by the majority in my area anyway.

Not just that part, the year of availability. With the bloodlines they were the best race for pretty much every build. thats a big reason why they were wildly popular .

No thats actually running off of running the best available content at that level range. Evergreen modules have become so much better than the corresponding scenarios nowadays and they actually fit into the same time slot that it becomes a case of why bother running the others outside of maybe introducing people to Absalom.
