I've got to read up on leadership feat. Kingmaker sounds like the perfect gane for it and I think allowing it as a free feat would be good especially for feat starved classes who want to take it but are worried about loosing a feat. That has no bearing on me as John is a fighter and if selected would take it either way, it sounds fun.

If I do go that route (and I am leaning that direction) it would be a bonus feat at 7th level with your cohort likely chosen (or at least strongly encouraged to be chosen) from existing NPCs that you have met up to that point of game.

I understand why there are so few Arcane applicants, given that I said that the one filled slot is a sorcerer. That being said his intention is to go Dragon Disciple, so he will not be dedicated arcane if there are those who would like to make an arcane submission.

Applicants so far (in no particular order):

Arcane:

Aest - Arisl'ariel Tathmir (Elf Occultist Arcanist)
Drogeny - Morrigyn (Human Crossblooded Sorcerer)

Divine:

Blue Drake - Bron "Wolf Arrow" (Human Wolf Shaman Druid)
Aiden Ramisg - Senan (Half-Elf Treesinger Druid)
Briccone - Kabal Boarstooth (Half-Orc Bear Shaman Druid)
Veshly - Anton Domnoff Lebeda (Half-Orc Cleric of Gorum)
Fabian Benavente - Jacobus Varadin (Human Inquisitor of Abadar)
Kaavek - Tove Hellstrom (Human Cleric of Erastil)

Skilled:

Jesse Heinig - Ivo Crownwheel (Gnome Unchained Rogue)
WarforgedMan - Khosis Aeranae (Half-Elf Empiricist Investigator)
Vanulf Wulfson - Arianna Ravenswood (Human Unchained Rogue)

Martial:

Cavaliers:

Aldizog - Sir Wulfric of Eagle’s Watch (Human Courtly Knight Order of the Cockatrice Cavalier)
Jovich - Lord Christian D'Elagante (Human Courtly Knight Order of the Dragon Cavalier)
Captain Ford - Colt R. Warwick (Human Order of the Dragon Cavalier)

Fighters:

Zahariel - Ion Ardelean (Human Two Handed Fighter)
Uthraed - John Logger (Human Fighter)

Rangers:

Chapel36 - Rhonir (Half-Elf Wild Shadow Ranger)
Inlaa - Zaqar (Lizardfolk Divine Tracker Ranger)
Simeon - Orandek Slagboulder (Dwarf Ranger)
colin spear - Tethon (Elf Ranger)

Other Martial Types

Azih - Jenya Poole (Human Pistolero Gunslinger)
Gramork - Vladimir Snow-Surtova (Human Slayer)
Grumbaki - Godwyn Blaecwulf (Human Swashbuckler)

Expessed Interest (Various States of Completeness)

Master Han Del of the Web - (Elf of Half-Elf Hooded Champion or Fortune Finder Ranger)
Faelar Braegen - (Halfling Order of the Blue Rose Cavalier)
Cuàn - (Divine Paragon Cleric)
Trinam - (Bard)
Ken Marabel - (Half-Orc Skald)
TheSilverDreamer - (Lamplighter Investigator)
Narrater - (Magus)
JDPhipps - (Android Bladebound/Kensai Magus)
Diamondust - (Diviner)
The Chess
TheSuperDodo
Guy St-Amant
ElegantlyWasted

I think that's everyone so far. If I have missed someone, please let me know.

Orandek could make a pretty good warden, as he has a decent strength and constitution. He'd also be a decent Marshal, and would certainly enjoy visiting remote parts of the kingdom.

Just finishing up the character, so will be posting him shortly. As for the Leadership feat, even if it isn't given for free at Level 7 I will be taking it if allowed. It makes perfect sense for my character.

Leadership will be allowed without question. The only question is if I end up making it a bonus feat.

Cool, another question. Offering terms of Surrender is a Standard action, will that be off of my Diplomacy check or is there a special rule for it?

There's no special rule that I am aware of. So yes, it would be based off of your diplomacy (with situational modifiers).

A quick note about Aris. She's an occultist right now, but I know that some GMs don't like dealing with summoner-centric builds, so I have a buffer build using the Brown-Fur Transmuter archetype as well. If you'd prefer I not summon, let me know.

No problem with the occultist arcanist. I was actually going to ask you about the brown-fur transmuter stuff you had in the character.

As far as the summoning/summoners go, I don't really have too many issues with them after unchained (the summoner as written in the APG was a bit on the too easily broken side in my opinion). The only issue I still have around it is really more in a face to face game and a player not being prepared with their summoned creature and bogging down the game while everyone waits for them to get their temporary pets together. :)

1 bad side of a summoner in this campaign, the people of this area abhore slavery and they consider summoned creatures as slaves. I remember reading that somewhere.

Khosis is an excellent face character once he hits level 2. He begins using his Intelligence for almost all his social abilities as well as Perception, Disable Device, Sense Motive, all of that fun stuff. He currently is just an excellent liar and debater with the Student of Philosophy trait, using facts and logic to convince and trick people.

I had him set originally to fill in the Spy Master position; I really liked the concept that an Investigator could be a criminal mastermind and that was where I was wanting him to develop to. He could also any of the other Intelligence-based roles for the kingdom.

He'll be very skill-related and very supportive in his role. He'll still hit pretty hard but most of his stuff is going to be used to make his skills better or to make his potions more useful for everyone else. I'm all about giving the melee guy's long arm and enlarge and helping others with things. He is also big on using Disguise Self to sneak into enemy territory and help sabotage things from the inside out. (using pitons to block off enemy reinforcements, sabotage gates and traps, so on and so forth.)

2nd Level, I plan on going pretty hard into all the knowledges so I can get the best use of my Inspiration ability. That extra 1d6 for free will be big.

As for prisoners and such, as long as we have a means to keep them and a way to ensure they won't harm those who ally with us, Khosis will be tolerant of the practice. It is more effective to make an enemy a friend than to just kill them.

Hi Talomyr,

It's Chess here, with my submission. I'd like to submit Krayn, the Issian. He is a Ghost Rider Cavalier of the Order of Vengeance. I believe his profile is complete, but please let me know if I need to provide anything else. I do realize we're full of martial characters already - especially Cavaliers - but I always wanted to try this concept so I couldn't miss the chance.

Thanks!

Wow, I didn't realize that Archetype existed Krayn, awesome!

If he should be selected, Sir Wulfric will be a very capable face. As to the role, he would desire to be Ruler (Order of the Cockatrice, after all), but could settle for one of the Str-based roles, such as General or Royal Enforcer.

To some degree, he'd resemble a Neutral version of Frank Underwood -- concerned with his own success and willing to Bluff, Intimidate, or Diplomacy his way to get what he wants, relying on Sense Motive to figure out the best way to influence specific people. His personality could change due to his interactions with other PCs over time.

His combat style will also incorporate his social skills (Snake Style, Feint, and Dazzling Display). He won't focus on mounted combat, but it will remain an option for when circumstances permit.

Right he isn't 100% finished, I still have to do his Backstory, as well as see if there is anything else I wish to buy. But this should give you a rough idea of what he is like.

Outrider: Some half lings specialize in mounted combat. Half lings with this racial trait gain a +2 bonus on Handle Animal and Ride checks. This racial trait replaces sure-footed.
Underfoot: Halflings must train hard to effectively fight bigger opponents. Halflings with this racial trait gain a +1 dodge bonus to AC against foes larger than themselves and a +1 bonus on Reflex saving throws to avoid trample attacks. This racial trait replaces halfling luck.
Sword Scion: You have lived all your life in and around the city of Restov, growing up on tales of Baron Sirian Aldori and the exploits of your home city’s heroic and legendary swordlords. Perhaps one of your family members was an Aldori swordlord, you have a contact among their members, or you have dreamed since childhood of joining. Regardless, you idolize the heroes, styles, and philosophies of the Aldori and have sought to mimic their vaunted art. Before you can petition to join their ranks, however, you feel that you must test your mettle. Joining an expedition into the Stolen Lands seems like a perfect way to improve your skills and begin a legend comparable to that of Baron Aldori. You begin play with a longsword or Aldori dueling sword and gain a +1 trait bonus on all attacks and combat maneuvers made with such weapons.
Helpful: You see nothing wrong with letting others achieve greatness so long as the job gets done. Whenever you successfully perform an aid another action, you grant your ally a +4 bonus instead of the normal +2.
Challenge (Ex): Once per day, a cavalier can challenge a foe to combat. As a swift action, the cavalier chooses one target within sight to challenge. The cavalier’s melee attacks deal extra damage whenever the attacks are made against the target of his challenge. This extra damage is equal to the cavalier’s level. The cavalier can use this ability once per day at 1st level, plus one additional time per day for every three levels beyond 1st, to a maximum of seven times per day at 19th level. Challenging a foe requires much of the cavalier’s concentration. The cavalier takes a –2 penalty to his Armor Class, except against attacks made by the target of his challenge. The challenge remains in effect until the target is dead or unconscious or until the combat ends. Whenever an order of the paw cavalier issues a challenge, his mount gains a +1 dodge bonus to AC as long it is threatening the target of the cavalier’s challenge and the cavalier is riding the mount. This bonus increases by +1 for every four levels the cavalier possesses. Whenever an order of the blue rose cavalier issues a challenge, he receives a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls made against the target of his challenge, if the target is an intelligent creature to whom the cavalier offered the chance to surrender (by taking a standard action to offer terms). This bonus increases by +1 for every four levels the cavalier possesses (to a maximum of +5 at 17th level).
Sworn Defense (Ex): At 1st level, whenever an honour guard issues a challenge, he can select one ally as his ward for the duration of the challenge. Whenever the honour guard is adjacent to his ward, he takes a –1 penalty to Armor Class, and the ward receives a +1 dodge bonus to AC. This modifies the challenge ability.
Mount (Ex): A cavalier gains the service of a loyal and trusty steed to carry him into battle. This mount functions as a druid’s animal companion, using the cavalier’s level as his effective druid level. The creature must be one that he is capable of riding and is suitable as a mount. A cavalier does not take an armor check penalty on Ride checks while riding his mount. The mount is always considered combat trained and begins play with Light Armor Proficiency as a bonus feat. A cavalier’s mount does not gain the share spells special ability. A cavalier’s bond with his mount is strong, with the pair learning to anticipate each other’s moods and moves. Should a cavalier’s mount die, the cavalier may find another mount to serve him after 1 week of mourning. This new mount does not gain the link, evasion, devotion, or improved evasion special abilities until the next time the cavalier gains a level.
Order (Ex): At 1st level, a cavalier must pledge himself to a specific order. The order grants the cavalier a number of bonuses, class skills, and special abilities. In addition, each order includes a number of edicts that the cavalier must follow. If he violates any of these edicts, he loses the benefits from his order’s challenge ability for 24 hours. The violation of an edict is subject to GM interpretation. A cavalier cannot change his order without undertaking a lengthy process to dedicate himself to a new cause. When this choice is made, he immediately loses all of the benef its from his old order. He must then follow the edicts of his new order for one entire level without gaining any benef its from that order. Once accomplished, he gains all of the bonuses from his new order. Note that the names of these orders might vary depending upon the campaign setting or GM’s preference.

--------------------
Tricks
--------------------
Track (DC 20): The animal tracks the scent presented to it. (This requires the animal to have the scent ability.)
{Combat Training DC:20 Attack, Come, Defend, Down, Guard, Heel}
Attack (DC 20): The animal attacks apparent enemies. You may point to a particular creature that you wish the animal to attack, and it will comply if able. Normally, an animal will attack only humanoids, monstrous humanoids, giants, or other animals. Teaching an animal to attack all creatures (including such unnatural creatures as undead and aberrations) counts as two tricks.
Come (DC 15): The animal comes to you, even if it normally would not do so.
Defend (DC 20): The animal defends you (or is ready to defend you if no threat is present), even without any command being given. Alternatively, you can command the animal to defend another specific character.
Down (DC 15): The animal breaks off from combat or otherwise backs down. An animal that doesn’t know this trick continues to fight until it must f lee (due to injury, a fear effect, or the like) or its opponent is defeated.
Guard (DC 20): The animal stays in place and prevents others from approaching.
Heel (DC 15): The animal follows you closely, even to places where it normally wouldn’t go.

Theodore Logan? Where's Bill S. Preston?

Missed opportunity there, his wyld stallyn mount should have been named Bill Preston...

I haven't put it in yet, but the wolf shall be called Rufus. In all honesty, I like the name Theodore and Logan just popped in my head. So figured I would role with it, I love the first film so it's all good.

You sure you don't want to make a submission for this game? ;)

No worries. You've got plenty of time. Submission deadline is the 15th.

Maybe it's the nature of the campaign but, I am noticing a trend with mounted characters. XD If I manage to work up an arcane build soon would it be alright if I throw in a second submission?

DM Talomyr - Kingmaker wrote:

A couple of comments on the recruiting process:

1) I don't believe this has come up as of yet, but please only one submission per potential player.

2) As I said in the initial post, I have a strong preference for Core races, but may be willing to accept one "oddball". At most there would be one, but there is not a guarantee of one.

Fair or not, but in the spirit of transparency, submissions that are for a non-core race will be gathered into what will effectively be a pool of their own and whittled down before being compared to the remainder of the pool of core race candidates.

Sorry Rhonir, I suspect by Wednesday I'll have enough to go through without multiple submissions from individual players.

That said, if you come up with a concept you like better than Rhonir, feel free to switch out your submission.

It's cool right? I think it has a cool thematic plus role-playing type of approach. Technically, however, it's a cavalier who loses the best the class has to offer, for the payoff of riding a cool looking ghost mount. Since Kingmaker is a lot more about RP and kingdoms and whatnot, I thought the trade off wasn't going to make my character terrible and still would provide me with great theme/story opportunities.

Plus I get to ride a phantom horse. Yeah, cool effect!

Faelar Braegen wrote:
Actually, I am going down the Aid Another route. I haven't even heard of half of those feats, I will check them all out. Thank you for the speedy response.

Dude, any time you want advice on Aid Another builds, talk to me. I love them. It's one of my favorite concepts.

Me yapping about Aid Another stuff:

Things you might want to consider for the future:

You're a halfling, and you'll be in the front with the other martials, aye? Consider taking Cautious Fighter and Blundering Defense. If you get in, ask the GM how he feels about how Blundering Defense works with the Crane Style feat and Combat Expertise.

Also, consider the Combat Reflexes + Bodyguard route for yourself or your mount. Or both.

And definitely get Harrying Partners if you go for the Aid Another route. And maybe take levels in a class that'll upgrade your Aid Another skill, like the Golden Legionnaire. Andoran is freedom-oriented and halfling friendly - I don't see your backstory anywhere, but if he has any relations to the Eagle Knights of Andoran, that'd be a good reason to take the Golden Legionnaire class later. It may not be possible, however, since I'm assuming your character is from Restov given his traits.

Finally, consider the benefits of the Benevolent armor enchantment and the Benevolent weapon enchantment for any Aid Another build.

Hopefully this isn't an information overload.

Intro:

"Our story starts with an elven, orphan, young man named Aleksand in the streets striving to survive. One day a noble of a family, whose estate happened to be nearby, took a liking to Aleksand and offered him a place as a stable boy. The generous patriarch began spending time getting to know Aleksand. As some years drew on, the house began treating Aleksand as their own.

During the passing years though, the heir to the house, a headstrong young man, grew jealous of his father’s affection for Aleksand. The young man began claiming that Aleksand was trying to take his position as heir to the family. Upon hearing such accusations the family laughed and told him to 'grow up'. Persistent was this young man though, and he escalated with a claim one evening in the middle of the night that Aleksand had tried to use magic on him. Now it was well known that Aleskand had some minor ability to move objects and other small things around, but it never grew to more than that, maybe that was why he was a passable archer. The family, irritated at the young man’s claims, told him that enough was enough. But, his thick-headedness knew no bounds and he challenged Aleksand to a duel. Despite the family's feelings, tradition tied their hands and they had to relent and allow it. The next morning on the field stood Aleksand facing death for he could not match the young man’s martial prowess. As the duel started Aleksand threw down his sword bravely and humbly saying, 'Do what you will to sate your hatred for me!' Enraged the young man charged Aleksand only to be stopped by his father’s words. The father, accepting the tradition and his son’s position, presented an option to spare the life of Aleksand. He proposed that Aleksand be exiled in return for his life. Caving to his family’s wishes the young man agreed. Aleksand was cast out with many heart-warming goodbyes and was supplied enough to get him far enough away for the young man’s liking.

Days of traveling passed. As Aleksand began to run low on rations when he was waylaid by a group of bandits. Seeing that Aleksand had little they were about to kill him when his pleas for life won out and his execution was stayed for one day. The next morning the bandit group’s leader allowed Aleksand to defend his life. Aleksand then explained his proficiencies with horse keeping and bows and minor ability of telekinesis. Within no time Aleksand found a place among the thieves. He had found a new family. Aleksand spent some time with the bandits sometimes even devising some of the plans that succeeded greatly. Deep inside Alesand knew that it was time for him to move on and he left the bandits with promises of visits. Venturing toward civilization, Aleksand found himself in a place called Oleg’s Trading Post and soon found and adventure that could be worth his time and here he stands before you,” and with a sweep of his arms a proud elf stands before the small crowd, his clearly worn, travel cloak over his lean, wiry form. As the Elf stands he has meager possessions except a tall thin wooden staff with a bowstring tied just short of the top and a quiver on his back.

My first real attempt at a PbP. Critiques welcome.

A Kingmaker appears! How nice, I've been looking for an opportunity to play it for a good while now.

I reckon I'll take a bard. A rostlander minstrel girl swept away with a tale of brave warriors of Brevoy taming unclaimed wilderness and protecting the borders of the realm from lurking threats outside, naturally she'll go forth to support them and record this noble endeavor for posterity.

@Talomyr, do you think I could refluff Dervish Dance feat that lets one use Dex for figting with a scimitar to apply to spears instead? It's reasonable in-universe, given eastern spear styles, and I'm looking at an ACF that lets a bard improve their spear skills via Perform (Dance). I'm tempted, but I don't want to cheeze it with an elven branched spear.

Inlaa:
A few more great suggestions, I will definitely have a look at Cautious Fighter. As for Bodyguard I get it at level 3 for free due to being an Honour Guard (replaces Cavaliers Charge). I also have a trait from Halflings of Golorian that increases the Aid Another bonus from +2 - +4. Which would help a lot. I had thought of getting him to try to go into the Eagle Knights or Steel Falcons (I think thats the name), he is a knight or at least wants to be.

Do we have anyone focused on creating magical items? I haven't looked through everyones submissions yet.

If I do get selected that's the plan, though aside from being a wizard and planning to take the feats I have no strong focus on it.

@Tavarokk: It would be a long game, but you could go: spear dancing spiral combat (eventually) (it would take most of your feats to get there)

My investigator will pick up Brew Potion but that is about it in regards to crafting ability. That and all the alchemical items ever.

Way too long. I was planning to take Finesse and one dex damage feat (if spear's no good, would just switch to fencing) to shore up my ability to defend myself without blowing limited resources, then prioritize bard and spellcasting feats to develop support aspect.

AVR : I have to say, the concept of your Wood Wizard has me intrigued!

Would a Virtuous Bravo paladin from Heroes of the High Court be okay, or is it too early for that? I'm thinking about a halfling Virtuous Bravo paladin of Iomedae. A Surtovan noble found him preaching in the streets of Port Ice and decided to adopt him as a "pet hero" - the idea of a short, young halfling trying to be a gallant and chivalrous hero seemed hilarious to him (I'll write a more detailed backstory should you allow the use of this archetype).

I understand why there are so few Arcane applicants, given that I said that the one filled slot is a sorcerer. That being said his intention is to go Dragon Disciple, so he will not be dedicated arcane if there are those who would like to make an arcane submission.

Yep, Virtuous Bravo is fine.

I'm willing to entertain the idea, but only if it only applies to one type of spear (i.e you get either shortspears, spears, or longspears etc. not all).

We can certainly discuss what you have in mind either here of via PM.

This thing, basically. Longspear is likely way too unwieldy to even qualify, and I presume fighting with shortspear is sufficiently different (held in one hand overhead like early greek fighters did, maybe?) to require a separate feat.

I would have put forth my Halfling Sorceress, unfortunately she is also a Draconic Sorcerer going into Dragon Disciple.

I was dreading using the Order of the Blue Rose, but the more I prepare the character, the more I am looking forward to it. I know it will be difficult though. Can I offer terms of surrender multiple times in battle, or should I do so at the beginning of the battle? This is of course, if I get selected.

There is a recent feat for Shelynites called bladed brush, forget all the pre-requisite but it causes a glaive to be treated as a light or one handed slashing weapon for feats and other purposes. It comes from the Paths of the righteous book.

Faelar:
One more thing to consider, then: Mount archetypes. Of special note for you are Charger and Bodyguard.

Bodyguard turns your mount into an Aid Another pal as well thanks to getting the Bodyguard feat as a potential bonus feat, and Alterness sure doesn't hurt. No Evasion or Improved Evasion DOES hurt, however.

Charger makes your mount benefit from your mounted challenge and generally become better at being an armored mount.[/url]

Inlaa:
While the Archetypes do look interesting, some of them replace the Share Spells which I don't get anyway. Also as you stated Evasion and Improved Evasion are very nice, so may go with a basic Companion. I do appreciate the link though, half of the stuff you are showing me I have never even seen.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

And just like all popular AP recruitments there's enough great applications here to fill up five or six very large parties :)

Faelar:
No problem! Like I said, I love Aid Another builds. When I first started posting on these forums I was tinkering with how on earth to make the Tactician archetype for the Fighter actually worth the cost, so I've spent a LONG time researching this stuff.

As far as Share Spells goes, the developers have explicitly said in the past that these archetypes are meant to apply to classes that don't get Share Spells. The Charger one is designed specifically for Cavaliers in fact. Basically, you're replacing an ability you don't get, so for you it's almost a free bonus.

But yes, the base animal companion getting improved evasion is very nice.

Oh: the last line of feats I'll point you toward before I stop talking about Aid Another for a while (I'm sure others are getting annoyed by me) is the Vanguard Style and Ward feats. They're relatively low-investment, but they DO clash with another important feat (Crane Style). You can't have two sets of style feats on at once unless one of them is a weapon style and you have weapon style mastery or unless you are a Master of Many Styles Monk (which doesn't seem like a good fit for your character), so you'll either have to pick Crane Style, Vanguard Style, or a different style entirely. (Some people swear by Archon Style.)

Aid Another Builds:
Speaking of Aid Another builds. I saw a build from another player which was a combat oriented wolf themed druid that just summoned a large number of lower level wolves as his 'pack' that just aided another his attack or AC. Was a wonderful idea and worked quite well and it was a huge bummer when the GM kiboshed it because he thought it was 'overpowered'.

I am usually more of a supportive player than central player, so Aid Another is perfect for me. As are Bards, but I was drawn to the Cavalier for reasons unknown to me.

I am looking at Halfling Trail rations and they have 2 listed prices! In the table it states 2 GP each, where as in the description it states 1 SP each. What would your ruling be GM?

Grand Lodge

Full disclosure: I'm a little relieved you said that.

Still working on the Divine Paragon.

I'm just in doubt whether to go for a Human following Erastil and going full archery or a Halfling following Desna and taking a more mixed approach.

I like both, now I just need to make up my mind.

GM, would you be willing to remove the caveat of Slashing Grace not working with Spell Combat? It feels like it was intended as a way to limit Dexterity-to-damage, but doing so is already obnoxiously difficult and requires such specific builds without it. I would build a Dervish Dance magus (who need originality, right?) except my character concept has absolutely no reason to have ever taken a singular rank in Perform (Dance) and I was also hoping not to use a scimitar. I'd love to use either a falcata or Aldori Dueling Sword (in which case I'd have him be a new student of the Aldori Swordlords), but the only way as a magus that I could gain dexterity to damage with those weapons is to wait until ~6th level or so when I have the money to purchase a +1 Agile weapon and put said enchantments on my black blade.

If not, I may have to adjust my concept again some, but I figured I'd ask.
