Will the core rule book be available as a PDF before or at Gen Con? I'd like to play at Gen Con, so I'd like to read the rules beforehand. Ideally I'd want to download the PDF Wednesday morning so I could read it on the drive to Indy. Being available for download during the Con would be almost as good. (I am trying to go all digital with RPG books to save shelf space).
Any chance of this being possible or will it be just physical books at the Con?
Thanks.

I just pre ordered several items and am having the same issue. do you have an update, as I'd rather not have 7 packages for 7 items.

Hi Majesticmoose,
Thanks for letting us know! I've consolidated all of your preorders into one order, and you'll be receiving an updated confirmation email in just a moment. Please feel free to review it and make sure everything looks correct. If anything needs to be adjusted or if you have any questions in the meantime, please don't hesitate to let me know and I will be more than happy to assist you.
Thanks!

Is there going to be a print/PDF bundle? I'm only interested in getting the print copy if I can get a PDF to go with it.
Like Samy, I will happily preorder the hardcover if I can get a PDF. I won't be using the hardcover myself. It'll be there as a table reference for the Starfinder tables that I GM, so that my players can do quick look-ups as we're all learning the new system.
I want the ability to pre-order a PDF, and I would love a PDF-hardcover bundle.
PDFs is how I do all my rulebooks these days. I highlight, annotate and take notes right in the PDF.
Please, please, please sell to this willing market of online GMs! I want to strap on my jetpack, and take my players through a madcap tour of Golarian's solar system!

We currently don't offer preorders for PDFs. Since you have to come to our site to download the PDF when it's released anyway, I'm not clear on what the benefit to you of preordering it is. What do you see as the benefit?
And while we don't generally offer print+PDF bundles, our RPG book subscriptions include free PDFs of the books you receive as part of your subscription. So if you want the PDF for a book that hasn't been released yet, the smart play is to subscribe to that line for the release of that product. If you don't want to get other products in the line, cancel your sub after that.

Since it won't be released until Gen Con, being able to pre-order means you're not using public WiFi at the con to submit credit card info and the like.

Presumably if we've preordered the Starfinder books, and a subscription is later announced, we will be able to shift our preorders over to subscriptions?
When you subscribe to a line in which you have already preordered products, we automatically reduce the number of preorders you have for those products by 1 (since you will have 1 copy fulfilled by the subscription). So if you had preordered 1 copy, you will get 1 copy with subscriber benefits; if you had preordered 2 copies, you'll get 1 copy with subscriber benefits plus an additional copy.

Me? I see the benefit is: Paizo gets more of my money. <Grin>
This is a very minor thing and probably not worth the coding time needed to implement it, but there have been a non-zero number of times that I've seen a reference to a product before it's released, and I decided I wouldn't mind owning it as a PDF. If there was a pre-order PDF option, boom, click, impulse-purchase complete. Days or weeks later, I'd get a nice e-mail reminding me of my whim. Christmas!
Now, I recognize there are a couple things here... first, I could probably use a wishlist... but did I mention impulse-purchase? Second, I totally get it that some people might cease having sufficient funds between "purchase" and release date, and that alone is probably a good enough reason to never introduce this.
But there's my answer. Would I use it? Occasionally. Would it get you more sales (from me)? Some. Would it create more work than it's worth? Probably.

First, when you do commerce with us, your personal information is encrypted whether you're using public wi-fi or not. We meet or exceed all of the required standards for data security regardless of the actions you take.
Second, if you've already used a particular payment method with us, your cardholder data isn't even transmitted—you're just asking us to use information that's already stored on our end. (Your encrypted username and site password *would* be transmitted... but you have to transmit that information to download a previously purchased PDF too, so the security implications are exactly the same in those two cases.)
Third, in past years, when we have released a hardcover at Gen Con, we have often offered purchasers the ability to add the PDF at a special price when checking out at our booth, and that transaction would occur via hardwired internet. (I can't yet promise that we'll do that for this book this year, though.)

Well, I used to put products that I intended to buy PDFs of into "Saved Items -- To Buy Later" so that I would remember to buy them when they became available. It would be nice if there were some way to express interest in a product so as to trigger an e-mail when the PDF actually becomes available. At the customer's option, the PDF release could also trigger a purchase (using a saved credit card as for a subscription). One would still have to visit the Downloads page to actually download the PDF, but it would save a few steps by having us do them sooner.

I would love being part of the initial order. You want to know how much demand there is, right? PDF data is part of that.
I want to place my order and know that I am part of Starfinder from its very beginnings. I want to support you and your final development. Yes, I know that I can buy at GenCon. But why not grab me as a customer now?
Hmm

For products with physical versions it's a nonissue in my case (since I rarely download the PDF anyhow but usually get it for nothing) however, it's no coincidence that I bought the first four seasons of PF Society in patches, then fell behind and never bothered catching up once it got to a certain point. When you introduced subscriptions I immediately signed up and then went back and ordered all the ones I missed.
Short answer: it mitigates my laziness.
There's a weird psychological difference between having the PDF in my downloads (requiring several mouseclicks for me to access it) and having the PDF available to put in my downloads (requiring a few additional mouseclicks prior to the aforementioned number of mouseclicks). It doesn't really make sense, but it's a real barrier of purchase for me and hopefully relatively easy (?) money for you.

Also - I hope subscriptions to the recently announced Starfinder pre-painted miniatures will be a thing. (Or to phrase it as a question: Will subscriptions to the recently announced Starfinder pre-painted miniatures be a thing?)
That is an excellent question, and one which I am currently unable to shed much light on. I do think it's safe to say that such a subscription will probably not be launching at the time we launch the book subscriptions.

I`m having same problem here with preorder and separate shipments. Would appreciate a fix.

Hello Nikita,
I can get them all merged into one order for you, but I need you to submit the order first. If I merge them all in your cart the system is going to separate them into child orders again when you submit the order. You won't be charged as we don't charge for anything until it ships. You may see an authorization for a short time though.

very droll....but thanks for the answer, that opens up the opportunities for the non-Americans to look at the combined cost of book and postage and make an informed decision as to what suits them and their wallet. That said, I will still probably subscribe to the adventure path once it is announced, depending on subscriber benefits.

Submitted it. Thanks for a quick reply.
And now I`ll just have to wait `till August. Hopefully, soon our party of space dwarfs will begin their journey full of discovery, adventure and somewhat liberal usage of explosive ordnance.

Diego Valdez Customer Service Representative |

Hello Nikita,
Thank you. I have merged all of the Starfinder items into one order. You will be receiving an updated email confirmation. I left the non Starfinder items in their own order so they don't wait for August to ship out. If you want them to wait for the Starfinder items let me know and I will merge them into the same order also.
You have priority mail selected and that means that the Starfinder items will still have to go in 2 separate packages. Both standard post and UPS Ground are cheaper and would go in a single package, though they would also be slower (4-8 business days for standard post and 5 business days for UPS Ground versus 2-5 business days for priority mail). If you would like to have that changed please let me know.
Sounds like you have some fun adventures ahead of you. Liberal usage of explosive ordinance is often the best solution!

Are the pdfs for the starfinder materials going to be released the same day the physical books are? I need to be able to run this stuff post Gencon.
It's a little annoying that we have to wait for people to collect their flayed, dead tree stuff before we can get our hands on the materials.

Starfinder items that have PDFs should have their PDFs go live on the website for purchase on the same release day as the physical product.

I have just submitted an order for all August items. Please merge the cart so I can save on shipping.
Hi Rick - I have merged your items into one order and you should get an order confirmation email.
Remind to folks: if you need your items combined, it would be best to let us know by email, a new thread, or phone call. Thanks!

Hi there,
I apologise in advance if this has already been asked!
I live in Australia and was just wondering if I pre-ordered (assuming pre-orders are even open for those of us outside the US), would there be any chance I could expect to receive the books on or around the same time as everyone else?
Thanks in advance for your help!

International preordering is not a problem.
Depending on what shipping option you choose, you might get the books in August or September. If you opt for a subscription, you will receive access to the PDF's as soon as your books are packed for shipping, so you don't have to wait that long.

Franz, thank you so much for getting back to me so promptly. Along with PDF access, I'm sold. Will place the order tomorrow! Cheers!

I'm in Australia too and get monthly subscriptions. It varies from month to month, but in general if i choose USPS priority I get them about the same time as street date, UPS is generally up to a week early (but very pricey!) Note that international orders over a certain limit have to go international priority and you might be surprised by the shipping charges, so be warned!
If you like PDFs and opt for a subscription (when such becomes available and presuming free PDFs are a subscription perk) you'll get access to those as soon as your book ships - usually before street date (sometimes as much as two weeks before). FWIW, the subscriptions usually offer a discount too, which mitigates some of the freight cost (the free PDF likely to cover a lot of it too).
Hmm...all of that will be much simpler once subscriptions are an actual thing and we don't have to guess the details. Short answer - yes you'll get them around the same time, but unless you opt for a subscription it's going to be very pricey compared to other avenues of buying the book (amazon, game stores, etcetera).

I am still requesting the ability to preorder PDFs, whether alone or bundled with the print copy. Thank you.
I want to support this early, but I don't read rulebooks in hardcover. Part of it is an accessibility issue for me. Large print (blown up on my iPad) is so much easier for me to read these days.
Hmm

Our goal is to get subscription orders and preorders to most of our US customers on or before the release date, but we can't guarantee that. And regardless of when retailers receive them, they aren't allowed to sell them until the release date.
So if you order from us, there is a chance you will get it prior to the release date—but there's also a chance that you will get it on or even after the release date. If you buy from a store, you won't get it early, but (assuming your store has ordered enough copies, and ordered on time), you should be able to get it on the release date.

That's basically what I wanted to hear. I definitely didn't want to wait too long after GenCon to get it! Thanks!
