I'm still around, I've been keeping up with this thread even though I've not posted much. I mentioned earlier that I'd be pretty busy up until the third week of April, so you can expect more updates starting next week.
I'm curious to know what everyone's thoughts are on a vigilante only game - the archetypes seem to contain enough variety to support a range of concepts and roles that an otherwise single class party couldn't fill, so I think it could be a fun experiment.

I'm down for vigilante only. I already built Shona that way. I agree that the class with its archetypes gives quite a bit of variety. Not as much as the occultist, but pretty close.

One thing I'm not sure I understand. The House of Unyielding Radiance sounds like a Superhero School, not Normal People School. Why do our characters need dual identities at Superhero School? The students at Xavier's School for Gifted Children didn't use dual identities. Sailor Moon and friends had dual identities, because they went to Normal People School.
I'm just wondering about the flavor of the setting really.
Also I've grown a bit attached to my paladin/swordlord concept

I kind of agree - counterintuitive as it feels to say, I think it would be substantially more fun (and more suited to what little I've seen of the genre) if we were in a more "mundane" milieu.
Also, regarding the need for Vigilante levels: Perhaps we could make the Vigilante portion a Variant Multiclassing schema, since the Social Guise (and Magical Child Archetype variant thereupon) class feature is presumably a necessity for our common concept. Of course there aren't any official Variant Multiclassing Vigilante rules yet (as far as I'm aware), but we could easily make our own. Maybe we'd get Social Guise et al as a 1st-level bonus feat (since I'm pretty sure the genre would demand this be an exceptionally high-powered game anyways), and it would work more normally from there.

If this, story-wise, goes somewhat in the direction of RWBY, they have their fighting school reality, but then the secret mission they're sneaking around dealing with, so that would still use the secret identity if it goes that direction, though I did wonder about the dual identity otherwise.
Realistically, I just really like the overall concept and am really excited to play this character whether she really needs the dual identity or not.

If it were more the other way, though, our "girl" identities would be more relevant and we'd be playing as them as well as our "magical girl" identities, which I think would work better for many of them (including mine), since it means a double-life where the people (who think they're) close to us only know us as one.
I assume the tone is kind of on the frequency of Power Rangers/Sailor Moon, or maybe even a bit satirical thereof, right?

See I was figuring the alternate identities won't really be "secret" at all, and they'll simply be the "fighting mode" for the characters. But we'll see what Tuxedo comes up with. I'm sure it'll be great!
Not liking that overmuch. That would not work nearly as well for my character concept, nor most "dual persona" concepts (which was what I thought the schtick was for this game, though I could be mistaken).

My current plans are to emphasize the "magical girl academy" aspect over the "secret identity" aspect. That being said, I do want to include a mix of adventures within home turf (where secret identities won't matter) as well as out in the world abroad (for at least some chance to use secret identities).

With the release of Ultimate Intrigue and the creation of the Magical Child archetype, I was wondering if anyone has (as of yet) done a recruitment for a Magical Girl themed game? We're talking full-on Sailor Moon/TONS of other anime.
I don't have time to GM such a game, but would LOVE to play in one. Any takers??
GeekandSundry did some L3 Sailor Moon DnD characters.

If for some reason you do go that route, make sure you have a friend who specializes in time magic!
Seriously, though, I think character creation guidelines and the magical girl template will probably be posted within the next week or so per GM Tuxedo's earlier post, so just keep an eye out for that.Yokaiboy |

Hrm.....if I were to do this I would have to make the base archetype one that is variable. Allow them to choose their choice of mental stat for casting and then pick from a list of things that can get in place of either the summoner casting and the familiar which has too much focus in the actual archetype. Probably buff the whole thing up so that the base variant with it's focus on the familiar is more of a flying turret and also a transformable weapon depending on what casting stat you go with.
Then if you were to give that up instead you would get initiating with recovery mechanics based on your chosen initiator stat. You would get that instead of spells and maybe a pool to use some spell like effects and to empower your weapons with. Either way all the variants would be able to fly and would be basically g gundam levels of stupid whenever they fought.

Consider my interest piqued. Assuming it's possible, I would be interested in playing a shadow caller spiritualist magical girl. I know it sounds a bit.. Off, but trust me on this, it fits my girls personality. The idea is that she could be described as quiet and quirky (if you're generous,) sort of like a cross of Vanilla from Galaxy Angel and the one hikikomori girl from Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, but with a bit of a calculating dark side that shows up when she gets really upset.

Update: MordredofFairy has too many time commitments at this point and can't step in for this.
Any of the potential players in this thread feel comfortable taking on the GM role? I definitely don't have that comfort level on a PbP setting, but if any of the rest of you do, maybe we could still make this happen? Or maybe Tux could magically reappear? Or something?
