2 people marked this as a favorite.

With the release of Ultimate Intrigue and the creation of the Magical Child archetype, I was wondering if anyone has (as of yet) done a recruitment for a Magical Girl themed game? We're talking full-on Sailor Moon/TONS of other anime.

I don't have time to GM such a game, but would LOVE to play in one. Any takers??

I would actually play this..

I call Ladybug

I'll be happy to send you the info. I'll PM you in a few here.

thx

Dark Archive

While I know have the archetype rules, I don't have them for the class itself.

Kawaii Cataclysm. It's fun.

Had to make an account just to get in on this!

When my regular group inevitably shoots down my pleas for a magical girl game I might actually be down to run one here.

I won't commit to anything just yet, but what kind of tone were people thinking of? Something fun and and silly or more of a "bright lights in a very, very dark world" type game? Relatively mundane complicated by the fantastic or over-the-top high flying fantasy all the way?

My magical girl viewing experience is limited to Madoka Magica and vague memories of Sailor Moon, so recommendations are welcome!

Kill la Kill is one.... right?

I'm not too keen on Madoka Magica but Kill la Kill mixed with Cardcaptor Sakura sounds fun!

Kill la Kill is fantastic, definitely one of my favorites, although I never thought about it as part of the magical girl genre. I suppose it does have the whole "magical costume shift" thing going on though. I'd absolutely love to do a campaign with Kill la Kill flavorings.

I'll check out Cardcaptor Sakura as well, I've heard of it but never seen any of it.

Kill la Kill is EXACTLY the type of thing I was thinking of. If it's a bit more adult-themed like that, all the better!

Every time I read Kill la Kill it makes me want to run this even more!

Anyone have any strong opinions on setting? We could go the magical girls on Golarion route or more of a patchwork setting that gets made up as we go along or some combination of those two. Centralized location like the school in Kill la Kill or globe spanning adventure?

Dark Archive

I'll try to create a charcter today. I only need the starting base saves and BAB from the looks of things and I'll be all set to brain storm ideas. Thanks again beck for providing the info.

For setting, it's all up to the GM in the end. Maybe a light hearted but Kill la Kill style and Sailor Moon style put in for flavor.

Silver Crusade

I guess a "magical child" from Nick Jr. would not qualify. ;-)

Grand Lodge

From the sounds of things, Hell's Rebels might be a pretty good APG with the Magical Child archetype....

Silver Crusade RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16

I'm fine with any setting, thought I'm most familiar with the world of Golarion. I'll start on my character tonight, though if the GM would like to set us up with a "team" type backstory or something I'd want to know that first before coming up with my concept.

Interesting concept and I'd be interested in joining if there's room (and a GM, of course).
Question, though, is it a requirement that we're all using the magical child archetype or is there flexibility in that?

I am interested but I do not have access to the class info :(

Yeah, might be a while before any of this is OGC or similar.

On the other hand... one person could play a magic butler instead?

Will watch and see if a GM shows up for this one.

Silver Crusade

Interested. Dotting.

Edit: I don't have access to UI yet. I'l be picking it up soon though. Are we required to take this "Magical Child" archetype? I'm assuming its for vigilante.

Personally, I'm interested in the Chosen One paladin archetype. I always thought it had a "magical girl" feel to it.

Following up on my earlier post, my concern about needing to play that archetype is based on not knowing if/when I'll get Ultimate Intrigue, so I wouldn't have access to the information needed to make the character.
Maybe a witch, shaman, or summoner could work? Maybe a hunter as their animal changes its form based on what animal aspect it's using?

I'm still down for this. As for setting, I think it's good to stick with Golarion, and as Michael_Hopkins said, Hell's Rebels would be a good fit for a Magical Child game.

I would love this. I'll keep an eye out. I'd run it myself, if I wasn't right smack in the middle of a recruitment already. I may in the future; Hells Rebels with Magical Girls does sounds pretty terrific.

EDIT: If my schedule continues to free up over the next month or so, I'll run it. That said, if someone else is willing to, I'd much rather play!

Wow, um, yeah.

So.. um. Hmmmmm. Crud, lots of folks already pushing for this and I'd dropped a PM to OP about hopping on if someone was going to run it.

As much as I'd like to be down for this, it's looking kind of crowded so I'm willing to defer to stand-by and let others get right-of-way... as Exquisite Child Sakura noted, there's already a MG thread running with a different rule-set, so only fair to share the love, as it were.

My schedule's going to free up after the third week of April, so that would be a great time to start for me. I'll do a little planning and see if I can come up with an outline of something fun to run. It probably wouldn't be Hell's Rebels, but would definitely be heavy on the Kill la Kill flavoring. I'll keep ya posted if I do decide to GM for sure.

I shall wait with bated breath.

After thinking about it, we really shouldn't restrict this to just the Vigilante Magical Girls, as other have suggested. As long as the class/archetype/build can be fluffed right, shouldn't anything be viable for a Magical Girl game?

That said, I'm starting work on a Jade Regent character who is Ameiko's little sister and a Magical Girl to boot.

Up to the GM, I just think the Magical Child archetype really lends itself to the concept of kill la kill, etc.

Oh, I agree with that I just think it'd be interesting to see how people stat out and fluff and stat up other things for a magical girl like game.

I was thinking of going with the feral hunter archetype so when my girl "changes forms" it's the animal aspect thing and she ends up looking animalish. You know, maybe cat ears of a tail or a cool frog-like coloring. I guess she'd just have a pet frog or something to be the fluff of the mentor animal. Or maybe it's the animal spirits that are her mentors are inside her and merge with her when she changes form...

Anyway, that's kind of how I was thinking of fleshing out and fluffing up a magical girl.

As long as you fluff it so that you have a ridiculously long and convoluted magically-infused transformation, I can get fully behind this. Lol

Oh, it's totally a long transformation. It's half an hour worth of rainbow tunnels and prancing unicorns and there's a tap dance routine in the middle and a rocket ship made out of Pop Tarts ;=)

I thought it was a space craft powered by kittens that had pop-tarts as it's by product .___.

Synth summoner. AKA beat her by taking off her cloths.

Synthesist summoner totally fits the concept, but is horribly broken so I'd personally rather not see one of them in the game unless the GM works with the player to tone down its craziness (being able to dump all your physical stats is just too good). Totally up to the GM, though.

I keep hearing Synth Summoner is broken. What's wrong with it since I've never seen it played myself?

It just let's you essentially take your eidolon and merge with it. You use its physical stats and your mental stats. So it leads to people dumping physical and focusing on mental. Really it just has a really high floor for optimization.

Its usually done by making a quadruped eidolon stacking up STR and natural attacks, then just doing that over and over and over. But that's boring, I want my magical girl to wear a dress that's a tank.

Soo, just spitballing here but maybe allow a Synthesist summoner if they have no stat below 10-12-14-ish? Limits the ridiculous brokenness of the class?

Basically as Edinoiz said, if we put hard limits on the lowest a score can go, then a 20 point build shouldn't be that hard.

Silver Crusade RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16

Agreed, as long as the GM can help mitigate the optimization, it'd be totally fine.

I'm thinking sleeves of many garments should be at least part of the build for my character. Not sure how the magical child archetype handles wardrobe changes, but the feral hunter would still be in the same outfit, just with animal features. Maybe those could be given as gift by the animal guide(s) for any of the girls who don't have wardrobe change already built in?

Sleeves of Many Garments:
These translucent cloth tubes easily fit over their wearer’s arms.

The wearer of these sleeves can, when she slips them on, choose to transform her current garments into any other non-magical set of clothing. These new clothes fit her perfectly and are always clean and mended unless she specifically designates otherwise. When she removes the sleeves, her clothes revert to their original form.

So, would it be appropriate to start discussing which of the personality types that show up in magical girl groups we'll all have? Unless my knowledge of the genre is simply too limited, it tends to be something along the lines of:
-Cocky/brash one -or-blindly rushing forward one
-Nurturer/buffer
-Scary/intimidating one
-Sexy/seductive one -or- boy-crazed one
-Crafty/scheming one
-Silly/random one

Not that we're bound by that, of course, but it tends to be part of the concept.

Incidentally, I'd lean towards the sexy/boy-crazed or silly/random one, but I can be flexible if others are deadest on those :=)

EDIT: I'm actually working on her right now and going with a human (adopted by elves) who can party face a lot (thinking in terms of the sexy/boy-crazed concept specifically)

The Ultimate Intrigue book has rules for magical girl characters? How funny! My book isn't arriving till next week, but this sounds like a bunch of silly fun. I'don't run an adventure.

I'm going "kuudere", that is shy and withdrawn but start to open up later, personally.

I'll go with the Silly/random personality. Definitely gonna have her talk to her magical spirit creature in the fourth person all the time. Should be fun!
