A sample of the game I took over but couldn't keep up due to RL.
Sample Skull and Shackles play
If you guys are fine, give me over the weekend to set this up?

DM Crustypeanut |

Who ever ends up DMing this, just aa quick bit of info to help you out, as the first book can be a bit of a pain to run via Pbp's:
This campaign is an awesome one so I hope it goes well for you guys!
(Also, don't let the players play races with swim-speeds/water breathing. Makes it more challenging and fun!)

motteditor RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16 |

I saw DM Crustypeanut chimed in and thought I'd offer my two cents as well.
I'm a fairly experienced PBP GM, and I definitely think the first section of this campaign is VERY difficult to run. I'm in the first section of Book 1 with a group of very good players who I have another game with as well, and I've said I can see why so many people never get through it (I tried twice as a player and both times the GM disappeared).
I think DM Crustypeanut's advice is strong. I'd also recommend making yourself a spread sheet detailing each of the NPC pirates -- I use that to keep track of their attitudes toward the PCs, but also maybe give yourself a quick physical description of each (the module doesn't have that for all of them), plus some motivations/quirks/etc. so you can quickly characterize each one when it comes up.
Also, the rum rations don't really work as written IMO. Truthfully, we ended up dropping that, because it became more of a pain to use than anything fun. (There's a lot of advice in this regards in the S&S forum, which I wish I'd read before starting.)
Good luck, all!

Checking....How many players are interested here?
I'm pretty sure I saw Shadowy Fox and friends.
Tiny Coffee Golem
JDPhillpe
Tharasiph
Let me think up the Character Rules, I'm hoping to make a better showing for this one then my previous one.
Nightdeath, I am in. Arcane or possibly divine, to fill what is needed. I had the Tendal character earlier.

I'll still use this thread for the purposes of recruiting.
First priority goes to the original posters.
Second goes to all those before this particular post.
Taking 6 players.........
The Crunch
Stats: 16,14,14,12,10,10 OR 4d6+1 drop 1 die OR 22 point buy
You may choose any of the above but no rerolls allowed.
Classes: Any Pazio Base Class, however I have no access to the Ocult Adventure Classes.
Hitpoints: Full at 1st level. Subsequent levels 1/2+1
Race: Any. You had better have a good back story for aliens, plants and half gods.
Traits: 2 traits+ 1 campaign trait. No drawbacks.
Starting Gold: 100GP
Stuff on Game
I may modify the encounters to better suit the party. It won't be a cakewalk neither will it be 'Mission Impossible'
Items like Rum would be there but will be modified as well.
I'm one of the players who got killed by Run. Really............ Really......... I kid you not. it involved climbing the mast during a storm...........Seriously.
Minimum 1 Post a day other than weekends would be preferred.
Be nice to each other.
PFS Credit available for each book completed.
I'm in for the long haul. Are you?
Other the Less. Let us begin!!!!
The party selection that is.
An Introduction to the High Seas
Welcome to Formidably Maid - one of the more vile collections of scum and villainy in Port Peril. It's nine o'clock on a Saturday. The regular crowd shuffles in. There's an old man sitting at the card table, making love to his tonic and gin. It's a pretty good crowd for a Saturday
And the waitress, she gives you a smile.
What seems to be a crowd gathering around a garrulous, tall and thin man with a braided beard and a mouth full of gold teeth drawing to him interested seas dogs, both young and old, over to his table.
He signals the barmaid to bring another cup of what he's got - and a look passes between them, some sign they had a prior understanding.
Remarkably his voice carries over the lower din (Not by much compared to the rest of the tavern) with ease borne of experience.
"Im looking for Sailors. Seamen with grit in them! Fires of passion for Gold! Adventure! Yet with some lick of sense in them to follow orders."
He sneers and looks around.
"Any takers? Or.....Do I expect the same Gutless worms."

I saw you mention PFS credit? I'm not a PFS player, but how exactly does that affect those who aren't interested in getting it? I know there are rules for things like "campaign mode" in which you can use house rules and such, but I don't know if you were planning on doing this or not, and how that would affect the game.
I ask because I'd love to revive a character in an S&S game I played IRL, but died off as the GM had run it before and decided to switch games. He was originally a hybrid class, called the Grenadier, which was effectively a hybrid class version of the gunslinger and alchemist. I'd love to play him as that class specifically, although if it simply isn't possible I wouldn't mind playing him as an alchemist.
I can get you the copy of the Grenadier, which was made by the old S&S GM, if you'd be willing to have Pelleas aboard your ship. Also, as a note, I HAVE played through the first book of the adventure path, but we stopped right at the beginning of the second book.

I would prefer to just stick to PFS class due familarity to the classes.
If the players are not interested in PFS credit, it's all the same to me. Only if the majority of players are interested then I'll report it as such else we'll just go along merrily with the AP as it is.
PFS Players would get a chronicle sheet for the adventure. Non-PFS players well..... wouldn't worry about it.

Hey there. I'm actually JDPhipps old GM from his first S&S game. He pointed me toward this game and I'm definitely interested in giving it a try as a player as long as you don't mind someone who's read the books around. We're looking at the possibility of playing two characters that play off each other. We're still working out details, but if that would be okay, we've got some interesting ideas cooking.

4d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 5, 1, 1) + 1 = 13 =12
4d6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 5, 4, 5) + 1 = 19 =15
4d6 + 1 ⇒ (1, 1, 4, 6) + 1 = 13 =12
4d6 + 1 ⇒ (6, 2, 5, 1) + 1 = 15 =14
4d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 4, 6, 6) + 1 = 22 = 18
4d6 + 1 ⇒ (6, 2, 5, 2) + 1 = 16 =14
Not sure you want to use the 4d6+1 method the +1 added 12 points to my rolls
Occult classes are on the pfsrd site.

@kamenhero25: No promises, Places will be given to the first few before opneing up the remaining slots to others.
@Tharasiph: Stats Help but they're not everything due to the wat Dice bots rule this forum.
I Built a Melee master in one game. +10 to hit bonus at level 3. Went 6 months and a couple hundred posts not hitting anything. Mind you we're talking AC 12+ here.......
The 4d6+1 rule is to help facilitate and I trust players to not generally Power Game because honestly. A true Power Gamer Min Maxer can create Monsters even out of a 15 point buy lol.
You may use Occult Classes but there'll be times where I'll ask to clarify their powers and etc.

4d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 5, 4, 4) + 1 = 19 15
4d6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 1, 4, 5) + 1 = 15 14
4d6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 4, 2, 3) + 1 = 13 11
Been looking for a Skull and Shackles game for ages now. Waited to see if this one was picked up first though, no use in getting my hopes up for a game that isn't even there to begin with.
The idea for the character would be a Besmaran Druid using the Kraken Caller archetype from the Dirty Tactics Toolbook.

JDPhipps |

Nah, that's fine, I figured. In that case, I think I'll be playing a different character. I do have a question or two first, though. First, are you using any Unchained rules, like background skills or skill unlocks? Also, what is your opinion on firearms? My character would likely end up going for a sword-and-pistol build, using a knife and a set of pistols. If you're open to advanced firearms I'd likely switch to a revolver, but I was planning on using several pistols and switching between them. Also, are you using the current errata for feats like Slashing Grace, or would you allow a character to get DEX to damage with it while wielding a gun in their off-hand?
Again, just let me know how you feel about both those things and I'll get working on a character.

JDPhipps |

Also, just to clarify because I'm a little confused on this point... are Unchained classes allowed? You mentioned that all classes are allowed expect for Occult Adventures, but also mentioned Unchained rules were off the table. I'd be interested in an Unchained Rogue, but I'm not sure that's actually something I'd be able to play.

@JDPhipps: All Pazio classes allowed. Including the Unchained classes I just indicated that I'm not very familar with Occult classes and hence may need to clarify on the things they can do. Don't want to accidently leave them out during the adventure.
@ShadowyFox: If your Rolls are bad, you may use the 22 point buy section. It's an option to ensure your character isn't gimped by bad rolls after all.
@kamenhero25: Where is this Dirty Tactics Toolbox? Don't think I heard about it. It's Pazio?

kamenhero25 |

The Dirty Tactics Toolbox is a recent Paizo release focused on roguish characters and that kind of thing. It has some very handy new feats and rules for rogues, alchemists, and anyone with sneak attacks, dirty tricks, poisons, or other alchemical items. The stuff from it is already up on the PFSRD if I remember correctly.
Also doing the rolls to see what I get:
4d6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 3, 5, 6) + 1 = 18 15
4d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 1, 3, 1) + 1 = 11 10
4d6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 5, 2, 6) + 1 = 16 14
4d6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 3, 6, 4) + 1 = 17 14
4d6 + 1 ⇒ (1, 2, 5, 2) + 1 = 11 10
4d6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 3, 3, 3) + 1 = 14 11
Okay, that's just less that 22 point buy anyway. Point buy it is.

JDPhipps |

You mentioned guns would be rare; how rare were you thinking? I'm working on a sword and pistol build, but I'm not sure if I'd want to go that route if it would be difficult to buy or find multiple pistols to use. The build already suffers a bit from being rogue-based, so Snap Shot and such come at a later level, so if it'd be difficult or impossible to get enough pistols to make the build practical, I think I'll probably pass on that idea.
