This is an excellent thread. I hope it does as you intend.
Maybe you could next apply your considerable and obvious talent to creating an index of the various "disruptive player is ruining my game" threads. I suspect that would keep you going for a while.
Full disclosure: In the same way I enjoy reading Ask Amy/Dear Abby, I kind of get a vicarious enjoyment out of those threads. Besides, those are too varied in the problems' natures, even if the solutions tend to be much simpler (talk it out vs. kick it out). Too many categories.
Also, f!+$ that s&!%, there's kabajillions of those and I have cats to feed.

The real crying shame is we had a thread that large, and over a dozen additional ones in the same subject, and little-to-nothing has been done about it.
Heck the Barbarian's been nerfed in some ways.

In that specific case, fighters have received pretty good options in the lately in the form of archetypes.

Takes a Standard now instead of a Swift.
It was already nigh impossible for a Slayer to get the conditions needed to CdG someone in combat (they can't Stun people as a class feature, Cowering is almost literally impossible to make happen by ANYONE, and the only way they can make people Helpless is taking them to 0 HP or using Tie Up).
So it was really a neat flavor thing you took when you needed to blow 2 Feats at high levels, CdGing unconscious enemies as a Swift so they don't get back up.

Are you saying that the subsequent tears, blood, and sweat aren't sufficient nutrition? Tsk. Highly inefficient.
There's an Errata disparity thread or two in the Index, actually.
See, now it just seems like there's a gauntlet to make the new errata thread all about whether the errata reinforces the disparity, just to make the list.

KC, you appear to be missing "This is the Fighter thread because Fighters are awesome."

It hurts my feelings to see that the Options x Numbers thread isn't there yet... Even though it isn't specifically about martial/caster disparity, it is about what creates the core of the problem.
And here I thought you loved me didn't hate me as much as Paizo hates martials, KC... D:

Oh, you're looking at the OP. As a reminder, I can't edit that anymore, and we're using a Google Doc.

And the martial types took the biggest hit in the ACG errata while the Shaman Walked away almost unscathed...
Between the ACG decisions and following (and agreeing with) the Martial/Caster Disparity threads, I am unchaining myself from Pathfinder!
I can do that because: a) I don't do PFS; and b) I GM.
So I am simply using Pathfinder as a guide and not as law. I'm home-brewing my own PF-based system, and changing things as my players and I agree on via compromise and GM fiat.
I'm done with the rules-lawyering and parsing of terms.
I'm done with having my hands tied waiting for Paizo to create the class/archetype I want.
I'm done, and I'm free!!!

Just use Hunters instead of Fighters. Way cooler. I'm biased, I like pets. :D

The prayer heard the incomprehensible squiggly one settles into this nest of cyclopean terrors content in the pool of wailing souls its tiny cultist has thoughtfully provided. Even if this only slows the inevitable madness brought on by the attempt at comprehension towards its inexorable and all-devouring will.In an act both confusing and terrible the caster-martial disparity god calls forth a patch of darkness that further drives its cultist into deeper throes of both enlightenment and soul burning torment by showing them a picture of it's pit of birth.
Oh great and terrible Caster-Martial Disparity God...
...I am immediately switching my alignment to be within one of yours, and retraining as a Warpriest so I can be both martial and caster.
.
What is your alignment?
What is your favored weapon, so I know what I get proficiency & focus in?
What domains and blessings do you offer? Subdomains??
And most important of all, for when I PrC to Evangelist, what are your Deific Obedience boons??
.
Your humble groveling servant.

Alignment would be chaotic evil. He encourages argument and discord, and his threads swith topics both between and within posts.
Favoured weapon would hyperbole
One of his tenets would surely be to start a new discussion on disparity every other week.
Also, most likely to ensure your points are ambiguous enough that it's easy for you to switch sides in the argument in case it looks like consensus is being reached.
I can see his domains being death and animals.
Death so you can necro threads
Animal so you can bring forth horses to flog to death.

Sounds like you are playing exactly as intended.

So PFS isn't playing as intended?
On a "slight" tangent, here is a question. How can PFS follow RAW if RAW states that GMs and their players should feel free to modify the rules as a group to suit their table? Is PFS nothing but a contradiction? Are those who enjoy PFS playing a lie? Is the PDT violating the intended way of playing the game by changing rules elements to suit PFS? DOES NOTHING MAKE SENSE ANYMORE?
Or am I just overthinking things a touch?
Wrath |
Possibly the last bit Snowblind :)
However, in all honesty, I believe the reason PFS has all the modifications and addendums to what can and cant be played, is to make consistency easier. You don't need to use Rule 0 as often when they take out the options that require DM's to make hard judgement calls. Hard judgement calls leads to disparity between tables.
Still, you can't play a game like Pathfinder without running into a DM decision moment at least once per game session.

That's for the best. Kant informed me we don't have enough diamonds for every philosophical conundrum.

So PFS isn't playing as intended?
It is if you consider the PFS Co-ordinator John Compton to be the GM. PFS doesn't play by RAW at all. See it's houserules regarding:
* Banned options (traditional in most houserules)* Hand-waving of XP
* Day Job rolls (I've certainly never seen anything like that handled outside of PFS. Definitely seems like a houserule to me).
* How it handles things "between modules" is certainly a houserule (no GM I've ever played under outside of PFS has played like that).
* See houserules regarding wizards and scribe spells
* See houserules regarding acquiring items (we find one blade of mighty slaying +2 and suddenly every single person in the party has an adamantine greatsword in the very next session blade of mighty slaying +2?).
There's plenty of houserules in PFS. That's not to say PFS is bad. It's simply not according to RAW. Which is fine. RAW will always tread a middle ground and it's up to every group to houserule it to fit their group's personal tastes. The best game isn't one that doesn't need to be houseruled. It's one support the widest variety of gaming groups.

What are you talking about, Pixie? Caster/Martial Disparity is just a myth perpetrated by people with an agenda.
Or maybe....
The people who are denying it are actually part of a Paizo Conspiracy to cover up the truth! I will not be quieted! I am not afraid of your KGB! I stand for proletariat martial masses to contest this disparity of power! Lulz xD. We shall end the control of the Bourgeoisie casters and provide equal power to all!
