I full well know the snow is melting and the Shirren should be coming out of hibernation or the bumblebee dance or whatever they do out there in Winnipeg.
I had some great customer service moments working for Wal-Mart. You'll never know what the Wal-Martians will do next. One time someone took a crap in a crockpot and put it back on the shelf. I thought it was hilarious and everyone thought it was me who did the deed. It wasn't my crock of shit, that's for sure.
Anyway, I got an excellent deal on the first Starfinder AP at the FLGS and I'm converting it over to PF1. There seems to be a great difference in price for things like arms and armour, being that the SF version is way more expensive than the PF versions. Why? This does explain why the first volume of the AP had so much treasure. I also assumed that owning a ship and upgrading it was one of the major draws of the AP and this is why there is a larger amount of treasure than in a PF AP.
I'm hoping you will comment and help me sort out my awkward treasure situation.

I'm hoping you will comment and help me sort out my awkward treasure situation.
Ahhhhhh, sorry for the delay!
The biggest thing to keep in mind is that treasure in Starfinder is radically different than in PF1 and an assume 1:1 ratio won't really serve you well. That's especially true when you consider Starfinder have the 10% resale value of goods, as opposed to Pathfinder's 50%.
Honestly, I would probably spend my time creating my own treasure lists and seeing where they can overlay in the areas of the adventure, rather than trying to convert the existing treasure over. Of course, you're braver than I would be in attempting that! :D

What has been your favorite surprise from the reporting data on Season 1 so far? ((Like, what thing came out in the data that players did that you didn't expect but are happy about and/or most surprised by.))
OH!!!! OH!!! OH!!!
This one is SUPER easy. It's [[REDACTED]].
Joking aside, there's something that's coming up _really_ soon that John and I are SUPER excited to announce that relates to Season 1 reporting. It has some major implications for the player base, and I think it's such a fun tie-in, and we've been waiting a long time to really announce the results.
I believe John's recent line about it was: "I will write this blog post in 10 minutes once we get the go ahead!"
So yeah, expect to see something Soon™ on that front.
On a less coy answer... The results of #1-03: Yesteryear's Truth were super exciting to get. Obviously, the players went with a very "Prime Directive" approach, but it wasn't something that was set in stone, and everyone I've spoken to about that scenario has had different views. It's really interesting to see how players handle themselves in Starfinder—a setting that we're really just starting to get a lot of the finer details locked in.

Thurston, I believe that this is where you wanted us to ask you for Lore Info Dumps. We would love any and all stories you have to share on this front!
(I have been trying not to say, 'You invited us to take a dump in your thread' but I have been utterly failing at this!)
Hmm
Well, a big ol' discussion of lore would take a ton of time to write-up!
However, I'm open to any questions people have that remain unresolved/they want expanded information on. :)

Living RPGs are tricky. It's basically impossible for us to include options for every potential outcome. A lot of this comes down to GMing at the table. I don't really enjoy "No you can't do this" but instead, "OK, so your suggestion doesn't match the reporting options, but here are the overall bucket choices, which do you think your response would be closer to?"
Something I constantly work on, however. So thanks for the feedback! :)

Oh, no doubt. I have enough trouble reconciling what players do in my home game ("You want to jump aboard the fleeing mi-go's shipfilled with its brainwashed cultists, as its launching from the airstrip? SIGH.")
That said, I drastically disagree with my fellow Starfinders' Prime Directive-inspired actions. We need to uplift everything! Bears! Otters! Tables! Hemlines! We don't let injustice stand, even if we have to knock over sacred institutions!

How did you decide on the original group of Starfinder Society VCs, and how did their personalities and stories start evolving for you?
Hmm
It began as getting a good mix of species/classes represented in the major faction leaders. That's why you'll see that every faction leader (and starting venture-captains) represents a different race and class. A lot of the personality came from Eleanor Ferron's work (just before she started at Paizo, in fact!)
The evolution has been interesting to see. Obviously, Zigvigix and Historia-7 were a pairing I hadn't considered much at the beginning, but the fan base continued to really push as we went on. Similarly, the idea that future authors have continued the time-honored tradition of having Fitch bring her children into ridiculous situation, has been an amusing. And Radaszam continues to just be a proper bad ass (as evidenced when he doesn't look back at explosions).
I'm REALLY excited for Season 2, in that we're going to get to view some new faction leadership relations and continue to have some pairings that people haven't seen yet.

Quick but big lore question regarding the Year of Scoured Stars:
** spoiler omitted **
So....
The original Tear was something of a guide that led Jadnura into the Scoured Stars. The Society, under Jadnura, thought that bringing the relic to the Scoured Stars would have some major effect, which it did—Kadrical rousing just enough to erect the Godshield to keep what he perceived to be "worshipers" from escaping again.
Much of the initial incursion was precipitated by Jadnura receiving visions from the first Tear.
The second Tear would be needed to breach the Godshield, which basically acted as a "Hey Kadrical, more worshipers have come back to the Scoured Stars." trick that let the Society get back, but inadvertently let the jinsuls (who destroyed their allocated Tear) back into the system.

![]() |

Are the parallels between Space Seed/Wrath of Khan and the Jinsul/Kadrical an intended development, or did the writing flow in that direction once the concept was brought forth?
Honestly, never intended and I didn't even realize there were some shades!
I admit that the Scoured Stars had a lot of influences, but one thing I wanted was to create something akin to the Runelords from Pathfinder in terms of scope. You'll note that we've introduced the concept of several different civilizations that left the Scoured Stars, of which we've only detailed some (Mentrasi, Kreiholm, Izalguuns & Jinsuls). Similarly, we've made mention that Kadrical had multiple heralds, but have only provided information on two of them.
As a planner/writer, I prefer to leave loose threads that we can come back to far down the line. In the office, I'm probably one of the staunchest people to oppose the concept of "This region has a problem and this adventure should entirely resolve that problem." as I much prefer the idea that PCs can have monumental adventures and still leave the setting with content in a similar vein for us to explore.
Basically, the story of the Scoured Stars is far from over! (It just might slow down in terms of content we release for it!) :D

What are the theological implications of discovering that the sun (worshiped by followers of Saranrae) is also a star (worshiped by followers of Desna) ?
I think that both religions would be fairly tolerant of one another; especially since it's something that has been established for quite some time, and both religions are more than their association with "solar objects" :)
That being said, it does lead to some fun "team up" opportunities for both religions while adventuring in different star systems!

Hello, Thurston. I have several questions regarding Ruins of Azlant. You were the author of the volume 6 of the adventure path, so I hope you would know the answers of these questions.
1. Alghollthus can undergo a chrysalis-like metamorphosis. In this manner, some aboleths become veiled masters or omnipaths. Each alghollthu is capable of spawning through asexual reproduction by way of the metamorphosis process. Each reproduced alghollthu is effectively a clone of its parent. Then what would happen if a veiled master or an omnipath produce a baby? Would this new alghollthu be a veiled master or an omnipath as well? Or would this new alghollthu always be an aboleth?
2. There are other alghollthu subraces called thalassic architects, enisysians, and plizeazoths. Can they produce a baby alghollthu as well? Can they transform via metamorphosis?
3. There is a series of colossal shelled constructs loosely resembling lobsters in Beyond the Veiled Past. These ships can submerge. Then would the water come in once it submerged? I ask this because I'm not sure if it can be used to hold human soldiers or not.
4. It seems that many alghollthus regard Ochymua an aberration among them. Many of them objected to Ochymua's plan. Is it because the modern alghollthus sincerely repent what they did 10,000 years ago? Maybe they are on the path to redemption?
5. Was Auberon married? How about Jazradan? Did they have a wife or children before Earthfall?
6. Was Lurisian a monk? I think so because she became a manasaputra, and manasaputras are full of monk flavors.
7. How old were Auberon, Lurisian, Rashimos, and Jazradan at the time of Earthfall? Mid-twenties? Early thirties? Late thirties? Early fourties, perhaps?
8. In Ruins of Azlant, Auberon is neutral evil, Rashimos is chaotic evil, and Jazradan is lawful evil. Did they have same alignments even before Earthfall? Maybe they were not evil when they were alive?

Then what would happen if a veiled master or an omnipath produce a baby? Would this new alghollthu be a veiled master or an omnipath as well? Or would this new alghollthu always be an aboleth?
This isn't something I think we've explicitly stated, so I would say that it would work however the GM needs it to work for their campaign! :)
2. There are other alghollthu subraces called thalassic architects, enisysians, and plizeazoths. Can they produce a baby alghollthu as well? Can they transform via metamorphosis?
I think the abilities of each subrace can vary. As for what specifics, this is something I would again leave up to GMs, and I don't think we've specifically cited in our material.
3. There is a series of colossal shelled constructs loosely resembling lobsters in Beyond the Veiled Past. These ships can submerge. Then would the water come in once it submerged? I ask this because I'm not sure if it can be used to hold human soldiers or not.
These ships are intended for ulat-kini troops and pull from some old text dating back waaaaaaaay into "Into the Darklands" that talked about their transports. I'd guess that they can fill up or remain airtight as needed by the ulat-kini for whatever missions they're performing!
4. It seems that many alghollthus regard Ochymua an aberration among them. Many of them objected to Ochymua's plan. Is it because the modern alghollthus sincerely repent what they did 10,000 years ago? Maybe they are on the path to redemption?
I think it's more that they viewed Ochymua as being a "hardliner from a past age". Much like in modern politics, were we to suddenly rejuvenate a major figure from over 100 years ago, their ideas would probably be viewed with skepticism. Also, the alghollthus who live now have seen the repercussions of Ocymua's pre-Earthfall scheming, and likely aren't too interested in enacting Earthfall Part 2. That being said, there are some who clearly allied with Ocymua anyways, as evidenced by the final encounter.
5. Was Auberon married? How about Jazradan? Did they have a wife or children before Earthfall?
Auberon wasn't an NPC I touched on too much for my work; so you're probably best checking with Ron or Daigle about that! As for Jazradan, I 100% believe that he remained single, as he effectively married his work. I doubly suspect that he didn't have time for anything else once he realized the level to which the alghollthus had infiltrated Azlanti society.
6. Was Lurisian a monk? I think so because she became a manasaputra, and manasaputras are full of monk flavors.
I always suspected that she was something of an arcane spellcaster who found ascension in her final days. I suspect she could easily have had a few monk levels that more represented her time as something of a "people's champion" in Azlant.
7. How old were Auberon, Lurisian, Rashimos, and Jazradan at the time of Earthfall? Mid-twenties? Early thirties? Late thirties? Early fourties, perhaps?/
I viewed Lurisian/Rashimos in their late-twenties/early-thirties and Jazradan pushing into 40s. Auberon is tough to say, especially given his undead nature (and again, didn't do too much with him in my work).
8. In Ruins of Azlant, Auberon is neutral evil, Rashimos is chaotic evil, and Jazradan is lawful evil. Did they have same alignments even before Earthfall? Maybe they were not evil when they were alive?
Rashimos' alignment change came as a result of her demonic pact. In life she probably veered closer to Chaotic Neutral, but given a chance for "salvation" she took it and damned herself. Jazradan likely began at Lawful Neutral, but soon shifted to Lawful Evil as his work went on; I suspect one of the defining moments was in the immediate pre-Earthfall time when he recorded his false messages telling the people of Azlant that everything was going to be fine.

1. To me, the veiled master Olordaera seems like a decent creature. It is one of the few who recognizes the threat the Dominion means for Golarion. It makes every effort to protect Golarion from the Dominion of the Black. Thus can I assume that Olordaera does not pose a threat to humans? Maybe Olordaera is not evil?
2. After its release, Ochymua established telepathic contact with the omnipath Quocwel who had kept the veiled master in its telepathic mesh for all this time. Is it because they were best friends? Maybe alghollthus were not that evil after all.
3. It seems that, after Ochymua dies, Quocwel would attack the Compass to seize the Synchrony Device. Then if the PCs destroyed the device, would Quocwel still march on the Compass, to avenge its dear friend Ochymua? Or it would not bother, because Ochymua was only a useful tool to the omnipath, and not a friend at all?
4. Page 73 of Beyond the Veiled Past said that the Veiled master Thulgroon found inspiration in the form of Irori's own personal ascension through self-perfection. Thus, can I assume that it has monk levels?
5. Page 29 of Beyond the Veiled Past said that Jazradan has no respect for the PCs, nor for any modern nations. He believes there are no true inheritors of Azlant, and would gladly see the world crumble to dust if it means exacting his revenge on the veiled masters. What if the PCs are recently awakened Azlanti who have met Jazradan before the Earthfall? Would he gladly cancel his plan to activate the device because there are still some remaining Azlanti who are trying to rebuild Azlant in the current world?
6. Page 20 of Beyond the Veiled Past said that the mesh repeaters are made from fleshwarped aboleths. And Plots of the Veiled Masters said that the veiled masters Olordaera and Uruluura have mesh reapeaters too. Are these mesh repeaters made from fleshwarped aboleths as well? I thought only Ochymua are willing to do such a horrible thing to his brethren.
7. How old would Lurisian and Harighal be before Earthfall?
8. There is an art on page 2 of Beyond the Veiled Past. What does the art depict?

I'm awful at these things... but hey! I TRY!
Sorry for the delay (G-G-G-GenCon prep consumes all!)
I think it's still an "alien being" and applying evil as an alignment to it, represents that alien mindset. How we perceive creatures is important, because I believe any aboleth-adjacent creature is capable of justifying what we would perceive as truly abhorrent acts. But then again, I dislike alignment in general! :D
2. After its release, Ochymua established telepathic contact with the omnipath Quocwel who had kept the veiled master in its telepathic mesh for all this time. Is it because they were best friends? Maybe alghollthus were not that evil after all.
I don't think so. I think the omnipath was just serving its role in the greater scheme of things. Again, alien mindset may not even be able to have friends.
I think what happens with the Synchrony device following the adventure is an excellent stepping stone for GMs to use to bring the campaign into the epic realm. I don't think there's a measure of vengeance as we perceive it, but the idea that the aboleth know about this very important tool that could be used against them. Consider it the revelation that one power in the world has a "nuke" and how various other powers would react to that!
4. Page 73 of Beyond the Veiled Past said that the Veiled master Thulgroon found inspiration in the form of Irori's own personal ascension through self-perfection. Thus, can I assume that it has monk levels?
Could be very interesting! But that's up to the GM :)
I suspect Jazradan wouldn't care about a handful of Azlanti who've "betrayed the species" by breeding with lesser beings. At the end of the day, Jazradan was kind of a purist jerk...
Once again, alien concepts mean that other aboleth-critters don't necessarily view them as "horrible" :)
7. How old would Lurisian and Harighal be before Earthfall?...
As old as the GM needs them to be! But I would say late twenties and late fifties respectively.

Great question!
Something that we'll be exploring in the future. Sufficed to say, the Scoured Stars story arc may have wrapped up in Year 1, but I have a lot of plans for future content there. I'm a firm believer in giving us a ton of breathing room for expanding areas—I _strongly dislike_ when writers present a location with one major problem and then wrap that problem up neatly and remove a ton of adventuring potential from those locations.
Sufficed to say, the remaining undiscovered Scoured Stars civilizations AND the two unnamed heralds are on my radar!

1. According to the art on page 57 of Beyond the Veiled Past, the Synchrony Device looks like a black sphere. But according to the art in page 66 of the book, the devie is a spherical mass of intertwining, spinning yellow rings. Which depiction is correct? Why there were no such rings in the art on page 57?
2. On page 64 of the book, the art depicts the two iconic characters who look like they fell into despair, and there is a blue sphere which shines brightly in the sky. What does this art tell us? I'm really not sure.
3. I'm not sure about the exact effect of the Synchrony Device. So I have to ask you. The area of effect would be a 500-mile-radius burst, right? In other words, if I set its target as the city of Absalom, the area within 500 miles of Absalom would be devastated, right?
4. Activating the device would destroy it. Would this self-destruction also have a 500-mile-radius burst? Thus once Ochymua activates the device, the alghollthu would die instantly?
5. The ramifications in the immediate vicinity of the device are swift and devastating. Vibrant violet tears in reality begin to open in the area over the course of the following round. One round later, a hekatonkheires titan breaks onto the Material Plane. I'm not sure. If this happens, does that mean the device has been activated and it is already too late to stop it?
6. The device cannot be used multiple times because it is incomplete. If the Azlanti completed it, how long would its cooling time be? How often can it be used? Maybe once a day? Or once a month?

But according to the art in page 66 of the book, the devie is a spherical mass of intertwining, spinning yellow rings. Which depiction is correct? Why there were no such rings in the art on page 57?
The adventure text has it as a black sphere, but the backmatter is different. I'd probably indicate that once active (or primed) it becomes the black sphere in the adventure, but when it's inert it takes on the form listed in the backmatter.
2. On page 64 of the book, the art depicts the two iconic characters who look like they fell into despair, and there is a blue sphere which shines brightly in the sky. What does this art tell us? I'm really not sure.
The moon exploded. That would be bad and make anyone despair! This is briefly touched on in a sidebar on page 67.
3. I'm not sure about the exact effect of the Synchrony Device. So I have to ask you. The area of effect would be a 500-mile-radius burst, right? In other words, if I set its target as the city of Absalom, the area within 500 miles of Absalom would be devastated, right?
Given the artifact-level of this, I'd say it works however you feel best. But mechanically I would say 500 miles would be the immediate blast radius.
4. Activating the device would destroy it. Would this self-destruction also have a 500-mile-radius burst? Thus once Ochymua activates the device, the alghollthu would die instantly?
I think pretty much everything in the blast radius would be fried. But again, it pretty much can work how your campaign needs it to. The mechanics are more guidelines for the (hopefully unlikely) event that the PCs fail.
This is the aftermath of the device teleporting away as part of its final activation. So the device still detonates (wherever it ended up) but leaves the tears and the hekatonkheires as a final "gift" for those remaining in the final combat area.
6. The device cannot be used multiple times because it is incomplete. If the Azlanti completed it, how long would its cooling time be? How often can it be used? Maybe once a day? Or once a month?
Whatever your campaign needs it to be. Honestly, this is something that I think no one should have ample use of, and I'd probably always have it malfunction in a way that would require the creation of a new device, ALA a nuclear bomb detonating.

The Thread Necromancer wrote:Mr. Hillman, with the fall of Sargava, and the creation of Vidrian in PF2E, what is the likely fate of Pridon’s Hearth? (What about Count Narsus?)I suspect the colony acts as a more independent settlement and is in DIRE need of adventurers to help out!
Working out the relationship with Vidrian would be interesting (for the diplomatically inclined adventurer).

Absolutely! Depending on the type of campaign you want to run, it could easily spiral into a quest of independence, or a sandbox style adventure with a lot of "Help X/Y/Z" options!

Unification could also be a goal.

That being said, it does lead to some fun "team up" opportunities for both religions while adventuring in different star systems!
I mean, Sarenrae and Desna ARE part of that polycule with Shelyn! :P
What would be aspects of Starfinder lore that you'd be best equipped to answer, just so I don't waste your time asking questions you know other Paizo folks would have more to say about than you?

Pretty much anything related to the Starfinder Society organization or elements of the Starfinder Society organized play campaign. This includes most of the season arcs, like the jinsul threat and the Scoured Stars. Alternatively, I tend to have a bunch of head-canon with regards to the Lorespire Complex and the history of the Starfinder Society in-universe. :)
