Yay! Ratfolks!

Just noticed in the AR all that beautiful red text lifting the Ratfolk embargo (main ARG heading still says nothing from Ratfolk is legal, but the red text below says it is... assuming the former is an oversight?).

Were there Ratfolk boons given out at GenCon? Or is this some clever foreshadowing? :o)

Shadow Lodge 4/5

Ratfolk was the boon for Tier 2 GMs at Gencon.

I also hear that the Monster Codex is not only going to be out in less than three weeks, but it also has new character options for ratfolk!

Says the guy who wrote that chapter and tried very hard to make sure that that race's options would be fit for the organized play campaign…

Any chance Gm's that couldnt make it to Gencon could get a boon? :) I passed on Ifrit boon and too GM recharge instead this past weekend. (Already had Ifrit)

That is more a boon trading thread question.

As a long time Skaven player and all round rat fan this has me REALLY exited!

Now to find some that is willing to part with the ratfolk boon...

I took my ifrit boon (the 2nd one I've earned) and traded it for a sylph boon with someone in the boon trading thread. Don't ever turn down a boon. EVER!!!

Agreed. Even if you're not going to trade it away because there's nothing you want, you can give it away at a local game day or something. Somebody will appreciate it.

It just so happened that Duncan and I GMed at the same convention this past weekend. Most of the people we would give a race boon to got one from running games at the con.

I am insanely jealous. Just so you know.

Brown furred transmuter? :)

Sensei, duh.

Grand Lodge 5/5

Rizzo Mouser, Ratfolk Magus, here.

I took the Unnatural trait (gives a bonus to AC vs animals, but their attitude starts one step lower for me), and it has come into play every time Ive played him so far, lol.

Kristen also made her Ratfolk character, a Rogue, and made special minis for us. Regular ones for when we are not swarming, and then a pair on a base together for when we are.

Lantern Lodge 5/5

Sabanuer, (red underworld) dragon-blooded ninja/sorcerer(eventually dragon disciple), native of Round Mountain, worshipper of Milani.

I'm a rat on a mission.

Silver Crusade 5/5

Fred here, Ratfolk Rogue (Counterfeit Mage) 3. I am also a rat on a mission, I just don't know what that is yet.

Do you get a bonus if you play a rat from round mountain in rats of round mountain... :)

or do you just run it for GM credit, assign it at first level to your new rat folk, and call it his origin story (look Zey, it followed me home, can we keep it?)

There's no explicit bonus, but as a GM I would try to give the ratfolk PC a bit of an edge while still maintaining the overall integrity of the story.

Example:

The ratfolk PC (RPC) might get a +2 or +4 bonus on Diplomacy checks in the first set of encounters, but it would also become clear that there are heightened security measures in place thanks to recent trouble "back home."

RPC: Whadaya mean you won't let us in? C'mon! I've always been allowed in, no questions asked.
Guard: Sorry friend, but there are new orders and some tough consequences. You've…missed out on a lot.
RPC: Things are really that bad?
Guard: Like you wouldn't believe. The Empress—may Her eternal reign continue in endless perpetuity—has become even more violent than usual. Something about an attempted coup.
RPC: You know, things don't have to continue like this.

[Several minutes of Diplomacy later]

Guard: You're right, maybe the captain can write up some papers. I rather like the idea of some heroics in the near future, but I like the idea of someone else doing the hero-ing even better!

Shadow Lodge 4/5

I let, with Kyle Baird's blessing IIRC, the PCs pass a certain encounter with just Diplomacy rolls because there was a worshipper of the Old Rat Lady present.

And let's be honest: that encounter played as is would be no fun for the PCs.

I always did think the Gulchgunner looked like one of the more interesting gunslinger archtypes.

My husband and I are playing a ratfolk fighter and ratfolk rogue with all the cray cray teamwork feats. We will also be using the Mouslings minatures from Reaper. Yep, Mickey and Minnie will be hitting a local table once our main characters finish Eyes. Our story is that our main characters adopted them while we adventured in Rats of Round Mountain.

I've been torn between a ninja/sap-master snakebite striker brawler called THE RATMAN and a brown-fur transmuter, but now I may be waiting to finalize anything until this Monster Codex comes out. Are there any particularly juicy/thematic gems from that section? :P

Shadow Lodge 4/5 ****

Since this has turned into a what did people do with their ratfolk boon thread...

I made a Spell Specialist Ratfolk Arcanist from Vudra.

I'm going to be playing up and emphasizing the difference in his magic by taking unusual spells and changing them in way.

Shadow Lodge 4/5

Ratfolk Mindchemist refugee from Bonekeep.

I'm working on a gulch gunner build (which happily combines with Mysterious Stranger), and maybe mixing in some swashbuckler (Picaroon or Mouser)

ETV: Gulch Gunner and Mysterious Stranger both modify your Grit class feature. Some GMs may not allow them to be combined.

I take that back. There is no table variation.

Belly shot replaces gun traing (9th, 13th, and 17th level)
Strangers fortune replaces gun training. (all levels)

They flat out cannot be combined

I always turn down Race boons.

Definitely time to play a Blight Druid sort as an exterminator with all these rats running around.

I actually talked to the VC and he is going to get me the boon. (I earned it afterall). Not sure what I'll do with it though :)

Sovereign Court

Assuming that's not a rhetorical question, you can probably find someone willing to trade something interesting in the boon trading thread here, mentioned several times above. I'd be happy to trade myself if you PM me, but you can probably find someone with a better offer.

3/5

It was rhetorical.

Sovereign Court

Ah, okay. It's difficult to tell, on the Intertubes.

You could always give it to me. I'm sure I can find somebody who will trade for it. Or you could make Cinnamon Spice, the former exotic dancer turned Paladin of Sarenrae.
