We are not talking about the taste, we are taking about the cost of the taste.
I am in line at a convenience store and I buy a lollipop and pay .25 for it. You are right behind me and buy the same lollipop, but you are charged $5.00.
You're going to say, "well at least my lollipop tastes good". I seriously doubt it.
If I don't anticipate greater personal utility from the lollipop than I do from keeping my $5, then I simply won't buy it. If I do value the lollipop more than the $5, then I make myself better off by buying it no matter what the last one sold for. With that said, of course I'm going to negotiate the best deal I can before making my decision.
If the degree to which you enjoy your lollipop is impacted by how much someone else paid for his lollipop, that says a lot more about you than it does about principles of choice.

It is shallow to equate value with cost. Value is fundamentally different from cost. And if you will reference your post you specifically said value and worth and nowhere said cost, so if you meant cost then you should have said cost.
...and before you appeal to the American Collegiate dictionary: that is based on modern American usage. There is real meaning in human values, even for the unlearned.
The worth of something can be priceless. How then can value be fully captured by an equivalent count of copper pennies?
The air you breathe is priceless... as are your dreams.

Social animals are hard-wired (kinda sorta) to value "fairness".
I'm not suggesting I find anything in the current situation unfair, I'm just making the point that, as philosophically virtuous as it might seem to suggest that we should behave as if we exist in a vacuum, we simply don't. If I work hard to achieve something, or earn it at great sacrifice, it does cheapen it when someone else is given the same thing with no effort.
Consider the Medal of Honor. If those were handed out to every kid that graduates Kindergarten, they'd lose their value, and those who had earned them the "old-fashioned way" would be justified in feeling that devaluation.
I must admit, I'm extremely pleased to hear that Ryan is continuing to look for ways to add value for those of us who purchased Alpha Accounts.

It's important to remember that Alpha access is not the same as an Alpha account. The former lets you play in Alpha. The latter lets you play in Alpha, get one month of game time for every month of Early Enrollment, all the Daily Deal items, invitations to Monster Casting, and we'll continue to add value to the Alpha Accounts going forward.
We are not giving people Alpha Accounts. We are giving them Alpha access.

I will probably be streaming, but I really don't know what I'm doing- so it might not be pretty.

I'm not positive if Zog (all hail Zog) is up and accessible right now, but that error is consistent with the server firewall being set to prevent external access.
I have opened my own firewall, but it might be that GW firewall rejects my foreign connection - Are some uk, australians or german already in the Alpha ?

So I rushed home (this being Regular Day(Friday) Off (RDO)) to watch, only to realize that Bonny is not on until 6. If you are going live between 3 and 6, is there some way to tell?
There's been some discussion in a couple of threads about the best time for ATwB to start each week. I can't provide an exact link right now, but Bonny did announce in one thread or another that this week's ATwB would be back to the 6-9pm PDT schedule.
Bonny, it might be a good idea to post your schedule on Goblinworks.com somewhere.
Also, I'm in Arizona (currently the same as PDT), but I support the idea of Adventure Time broadcasts (not necessarily with Bonny, who has to sleep sometime) in several different timezones over the remaining weeks until EE (and maybe beyond).

Signed up. System keeps logging out the feed. 90% of the time I do see something, there is no audio.
Being my first experience streaming the ATWB, not so good. :(
Impossible to have any communication on chat, 99% of the comments are the words "raffle".
Here is hopping next time I get a better connection....

Thanks to everyone who came out tonight. I really like the idea of getting the schedule on the website. The reason I hadn't put it up there yet, is because I was trying to find the right time to accommodate the most people and the most viewers! I think tonight proved that we have found the sweet spot!

- Two new Alphas, along with several merchandise winners:
1) Akryn, the head of The Vigilant, from Ozem's Vigil
2) The other new Alpha is a friend of our very own mathematician and modeller, Nightdrifter, but, unfortunately, I don't know her name here on the boards
- Ryan led the Darksiders against our heroes in some very fast-moving, crazy, and fun PVP
- That PVP gave us what may be the key lesson of the night: it's hard to target enemies when GW's not yet implemented the faction-schemes that'll allow us to distinguish friend from foe at a glance; remember there won't be names overhead in PFO
- Nihimon's name turned red, so he could be attacked without Reputation-loss!
- Bonny proved very adept at finding the nearest Pharasma-shrines :-)
- One needs to enter !raffle only once per session to enter all the contests, but that's still by far the most-common sight in the chat window, along with many running-joke variants...!squirrel
- The Alphas began the evening facing a fully-escalated Escalation cycle, and it did indeed prove to be more challenging (or even much more) than what we'd seen in earlier stages. Another lesson: take care of your neighbourhoods, folks, or they'll take care of you!

Even once you identify - which I started doing by mousing over icons in the minimap to see names, selecting other players as targets was just difficult in general. We need a way to tab-target players. Maybe ctrl+tab or the like?

You have skirmish fighting down pretty well. Engage and disengage allotted you a pretty hefty kill to death ratio on the skirmishes I caught.
I can see now I need to practice the art myself a little more.

Agreed that IFF and targeting look like a huge interface shortfall at this point.
* Three versions of targeting key (configurable, default to tab, shift tab, control tab?) should allow for selection of monsters, hostile players, and nonhostile players within range
* Especially but not exclusively for clerics, we will need implied targeting (targeting a hostile for a beneficial effect will redirect to that hostile's current target) and/or dual targeting (have a hostile target and a friendly target simultaneously).
* There should be toggles to enable/disable overhead display of hostility status, settlement/company membership, and individual name for all PCs in visual range. Even if there are philosophical objections to overhead names, hostility and settlement affiliation should be available at a glance.

In Alpha you are starting with a pool of what, 1000 XP to spend on skills?
What will be the starting amount of XP in EE?
How many XP will be earned per month?
I get the impression that the characters we are seeing in Alpha a pretty powerful compared to what we will be playing with in EE. Is that a fair assessment?

You will get 100XP per hour. I think the plan is to start characters with 1,000XP.
But they'll start with peasant clothes and wood clubs, not armor, weapons, staves, wands, and implements. So the "startup economy" will be a lot more interesting.
Nihimon probably has one of the most powerful characters in the game. Lisa has another but she couldn't play last night. Both of them have been playing lots and lots of hours, but Nihimon has also been crafting better gear (Lisa didn't know how to craft until last week).
Mac Knife is a multclassed character. He has levels from all 4 classes. Last night I had him wearing his best armor, and using a greatsword and his cleric staff so he could cast heals. In 1:1 fights with Nihimon he was toast.
So I think some of the characters you're seeing are starting to edge into the "long middle" level of power but even there they're clearly not equally powerful (with lots of caveats for the fact that important game mechanics like encumbrance, ammo, sneak attack, consuambles, etc. aren't working yet).
Some of the Darksiders were made on Friday so they were essentially the equivalent of a throw-away newb character. They did ok. :)

In skirmishes that were about 1 on 3-4, I was normally able to bring down 1 of the relatively new characters. I suspect that with proper reactive feat choices, I could easily have regularly taken down 2, but if everyone had been coached by someone more skilled than anybody currently is, those 4 new characters with +0 equipment could consistently win versus any character with a month's worth of experience and T1 +2 equipment, by diversifying, recognizing which type of opponent they were engaging, and using the best tactic for the specific opponent they had.

Thanks :)
I figure if two or three folks disengage to chase me, that's two or three folks not accomplishing their objective.
The thing that worries me most is that I was hesitant to attack unflagged (no red name) Darksiders. It's probably good to be a little hesitant, but I hope I don't freeze when something important's on the line :)
