You can otherwise find me on TSV's Teamspeak. ;)

Thanks so much for putting this up!

Goblin Squad Member

You're welcome! I will typically be working 8a-5p M-F (GMT -7 no DST, currently same as Pacific while they are in DST). Otherwise over the next few days, I will try to stream as often as possible.

Very nice! I hope i have time to play today :-)

Another! Tallest point in the known world. Took 4 people to stack to get up here.
Nihimon, Decius, Dario, and Kitsune.

Goblin Squad Member

Very nice, thanks. Draw distance seems to pretty far, I like that.

Goblin Squad Member

I watched you swimming and a little of Nihimon running about and participating in a manstack. It looks very beautiful. Just sad I didn't get to see any combat/animations...

Thanks for streaming...

Sorry if the part you caught was dull, there was a lot going on. We did venture up into the mountains and wipe out some Ogres after just steamrolling bandits and such below.

Man, that was a great fight. "You know we're all gonna die, right?" "...Wait, are we actually winning?" "Holy crap, we won. I feel like a BAMF." Teamwork, yo. Key to victory. Teamwork and a dash of "Ohgodhe'seatingmyfacerunaway!"

If I can figure out how to do highlights (if that is even possible on archived videos) I will try and link specific combat pieces.

You'll probably need to save the file to your PC while you're recording, and spend some time editing after the fact. I don't think there's an easy way to pull the video down from twitch to edit, but I'm sure there's a plugin somewhere.

So I figured out the highlighting. You can do it inside of Twitch itself. So I clipped about 10 min starting with some goblin combat and then ending with some Ogre combat.

Watching it just makes you want to get back in, doesn't it?

Goblin Squad Member

I'll be archiving my stream starting tonight as well. If the character saving is working as intended, I'm planning to fiddle around with various settings and updating drivers, etc. to get better FPS if possible.

And I'm thinking I'll change my audio device(s) to include teamspeak chatter instead of game sounds. What do you guys think about listening to that, instead of the lovely ambiance of the game?

Also, I'll be about 2 hours late to the party - I get off work at 5pm server-time.

Scarab Sages Goblinworks Executive Founder

Mine apparently included Teamspeak automatically(once I turned on the game sounds). I want to figure out a way to hotkey turning on/off teamspeak through twitch if possible.

Goblin Squad Member

Thanks for doing this guys, very exciting!

My headphones have 2 audio devices - one connected with headphone jack, the other via USB (which includes the recording audio device, too), and has two separate volume controls on the headset. It's rather nice, but it also means that I'll either be recording game audio, or teamspeak chatter. Unless I were to move teamspeak chatter onto the same device as the game audio...

There is a push-to-talk feature in OBS, but I wonder if that could be inverted? e.g. push-to-not-talk. :P

You're welcome, it was a lot of fun.

Watching Dakcenturi's edited video, I really wish I had kept the game and TS audio on, even though somebody dropped an F-bomb in the middle of it. We try to keep our TS fairly clean generally. I think our best bet is to create a LiveStream channel on T7V's TS so everyone understands they're being recorded and sent out live.

That was probably me. If so, I apologize. I try to watch my language, but it slips occasionally. Too many years of Navy/Army habits.

No worries. We allow one F-bomb per hour :)

We're not trying to keep it 100% clean, we just don't want it to get so lax that everyone's cursing all the time - you know, like we do in real life...

Goblin Squad Member

I like the idea of a livestream channel on your teamspeak (which, btw, thank you again, The Seventh Veil, for opening your TS server to us!).

Plus, T7V's True Neutral, which enters so many equations in so many ways, unpredictability not least of all.

Just train yourself to scream out "Holy Carp!" instead of "Holy S**t!!" and "Fun!" instead of "F**k!" :-)

I downloaded/installed the "DirectShow Audio Source Plugin" for OBS, which allows you to add another audio source to the stream as a separate source. It works, but only works with input devices (e.g. microphone, line-in, usb headset INput), but does not work with output devices (e.g. speakers, headphones, usb headset OUTput).

To work around this limitation, I simply used a splitter from the "analog side" (headphone jack half) of my headset to split the audio to my Line-In, and then used this plugin to add my Line-In to the audio stream. Preview shows that it's working, so we'll see tonight! :)

EDIT: Obviously, I've disabled the "listen to this device" on the Line-In within Windows' audio settings. Otherwise it makes a really nasty feedback. :P

How far off would other players or mobs visibly appear?

It was a good distance and if they hid in the foliage they were near impossible to spot, and you can't apparently clikc on someone within a specific distance to target them.

More things for testing tonight :P

Indeed. Due to the terrain being "hilly" and the bushes/trees abound, I wasn't exactly sure what the draw distance was. However, I did visit some of the mountain hexes (mostly devoid of vegetation in some places) and the draw distance was fairly long.

But we can test this more for our viewers this evening, for sure.

Updated graphics drivers - made a huge improvement. Removed overclocking (back down to 4.2) and "might" have improved things. Unsure still.

Broadcasting now, though!!

Goblin Squad Member

It's definitely the CPU. The AMD FX-4170 is NOT a quad-core processor, but rather a dual-core in disguise (complicated, but frustrating). Pretty much the entire FX series is this way.

I'm thinking I'm going to switch to Intel straight away. **** you, AMD.

For that matter, I probably won't be able to stream again tonight. I'll have to drive about 2 hours to the nearest city that has what I'll need to upgrade my PC to an Intel i7. Probably going to go with the 4770K if I can afford it, but I'll need a new mobo and mayb ea new heatsink/fan depending on how loud the stock one is (I have the Antec Skeleton case, so noisy fans are unacceptable!).

I'm beyond frustrated right now. Far beyond.

Goblin Squad Member

I tend to go with the rule:
If AMD says 6 cores, it's really 4 cores,
If AMD says 3.0GHz, it's really 2.0Ghz

You can upgrade on the cheap buy going ONE socket generation back from the newest one.
My i7-3770 is top end, but cheaper than it's newer socket equivalent.
And the motherboard is cheaper as well.
If you can find a Asus Sabertooth z77 and a socket 1156 cpu, you'll save about $600 to $800.

Thanks for the advice. I will probably go with the 4770K anyway, just because the 4790K's release should hopefully drive down the price of the 4770K a bit.

After server is up today, I'll be creating character(s) to start gaining XP, and then I'm off to go buy that stuff. Minimum 4-hour roundtrip, plus shopping, and then the install. I expect to be back online somewhere around 9pm tonight to begin streaming.

If all goes as planned, I'll be back around 9pm tonight.

Edit/Add: Looks like Alpha server is not up today? *shrug* oh well, I've got to leave anyway. :P

This was too absolute. That was the schedule for the testing we just finished. Future schedules are likely to be similar.

It's killing me that I won't be able to play much while I'm at PaizoCon, but hopefully I'll make up for it the week after :)

Kinda jealous re: PaizoCon, but alas, I can't travel too much right now. Wife is 30wks pregnant with some risk of pre-term labor, and we don't want to be in another state if/when it happens. Apart from that, I wouldn't dare leave without her. :P

And about the schedule, I would expect that with the 2-week cadence they have referred to, we'd be able to test a lot more than 2 days a week? :S 2 days doesn't seem right.

Regarding my PC, I found that the 4770K was the same price as the 4790K, so I just bought the 4790K and the GA-Z97X-UD5H to match. The swap was fairly painless, but I still have some driver cleanup to do before I can call it "complete."

If it's any consolation, I plan on eventually hunting both of you down and stabbing you in the face taking you to dinner when I'm in your area, which is likely but might take a year or so.

Well then, good luck to both of you and your SO's (would say wives but Dak didn't say that exactly)!

I myself just don't have enough money to fly across the country, or enough endurance to do the car trip on my own (definitely not dwarf-like IRL :P).

Sounds like a plan! With the new hardware, I might have a small chance in PvP, now (e.g. not dropping to 5 FPS during combat...). Nonetheless, we can always just sit there and test different weapons/attacks/etc. if we get bored enough.

Sounds like a plan! By then I'll have a ~1yr old daughter who will likely be better at PvP than I am. (maybe an exaggeration, but sheesh, kids these days...)

Yeah, it would be a reasonable road trip for us (Arizona), but not whilst 31wks pregnant in the middle of summer. o_O
