Go here. Now click "X". Notice the problem? That's right, no X spells.

Srsly, Paizo? That's offensive.

We've got to take up the slack - create your very own spells that start with X.

The Rules:
- It has to be a real, correctly spelled word. "X-Treme Obliterator" and "Xorgonicitronimonic Ray" are not valid.
- It can't be a name. "Xavier's Skullblazer" does not count.
- It has to be relevant. "Xylophone Beam" is not valid for a spell that has nothing to do with Xylophones.
- It can't reuse words. If someone already posting something with "X-Ray", you can't use "X-Ray".
- It doesn't have to be balanced, but if you can make it balanced-ish if you're in the mood and stuff.

I'll start us off.

"X-Ray Vision"
Level: 5
Components: V,S
Duration: 1 round/level
Range: Personal
Target: You
Saves: No

When under the effects of this spell, the caster is treated as having line of sight on any creature whose location the caster knows within a 100'+10'/level. For example, if the caster knows a being is hiding behind cover or waiting on the other side of the door, the caster can target that creature with a spell that normally requires line of sight.

X Marks the Spot
School Transmutation Level antipaladin 3, cleric/oracle 3, sorcerer/wizard 4, witch 3;
Components: S, M(Ink), F(brush)
Casting Stime: 1 standard Action
Duration: Permanent
Save: none (object)

By applying an "X" to a particular location, including but not limited to a wall, floor, table, the location becomes a "beacon" for the caster. This allows the caster, and only the caster, to teleport to this specific location or to plane shift, in both cases without any error.

Xenophobia

Components: SMF

Turning someone's companion to one of those in the middle of a horde of goblins? I would think that could be quite entertaining to the right type of Mage.

Xenolith
School Transmutation Level sorcerer/wizard 4, Druid 3;

Components: S, M(a small hammer - focus)
Casting Time: 1 Standard Action
Range: touch
Target: 10-foot-square section of stone, crystal, or gemstone, per level
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw Fortitude negates (object); Spell Resistance yes (object)

By tapping lightly with a small hammer, you create a permanent structural change in a section of stone, crystal, or gemstone. When you cast this spell on a section of stone, you may either reduce its hardness by 5 and its hit points by 10/inch of thickness, or you may increase its hardness by 5 and its hit points by 10/inch of thickness. This spell may not be used to create substances of any great value, such as precious gems or refined ores. A make whole spell reverses this spell’s effect.

Pseudo implied in the original.

Actually, if you were to cast it on an enemy or something and then like shoot them with a ballista, superacid would go everywhere.

Xenocide:
School: Evocation/Necromancy/Abjuration/Transmutation (Yes all of them) Sorcerer/Wizard 9; Cleric/Oracle 9

Duration: Instantaneous
Range: 1 Light (not a typo) year per CL
Save: Haha No. (This is actually what's written) SR: No, it's a conjuration spell. (Also what is actually written.)

Kill everything that is different from you. Because magic clearly needs this kind of effect.

Issue 1: Requires black dragon head, which may be unfindable on other planets. Therefore, offensive to people of other planets.
Issue 2: "1 Standard Action". Should be "1 Immediate Action".

Issue 1b. It is unclear from RAW whether the dragon itself must be reanimated, or only the head.

Issue 1c. Must the head be removed from the body?

Issue 1d. Can a reanimated dragon use it's own head as the material component when casting this spell? If so, is the component consumed?

Errata, please.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Yeah, it should list if it's a material component or a focus component.

In addition, it should not be on the cleric spell list. That's beyond the reaches of a god and stuff - only mortal arrogance can do such things.

Okay, first off, WotC published a whopping 1 spell that started with an x:
Xorn Movement, originally from the 3.0 MotP, updated in the 3.5 SpC.

Due to the specific focus I'm going to make a wild guess that you based that on a spell whose name started with an "f".

Although, just taking the name "Xenocide" suggests an alternate approach:
Xenocide
School: Evocation
Sorcerer/wizard 9; Articifer 6 (it's also an infusion)
Components: S
Casting Time: 1 Standard Action
Duration: Instantaneous
Range: 100 miles/CL
Save: no, SR: No
Special: This is powered by Fictional Science, and so counts as either an (Ex) ability or a spell, whichever is more beneficial.
Effect:
Also called a Molecular Disruption Device, any physical particle hit by this ray explodes, and causes all nearby particles to explode similarly. There is no limit to how far the chain can continue, allowing the destruction of entire planets. However, there is a 1% per CL chance that the caster will be compelled to fly around the universe at relativistic speeds for thousands of years making philosophical musings about what he/she has done, and possibly cause people to boycott blockbuster films.

Xorn Gullet
School: Transmutation
Sorcerer/Wizard 3, Alchemist 2
Component: V, S
Casting Time: 1 Standard Action
Duration: 1 hour/level
Range: One creature touched
Save: Fortitude negates (harmless)
Effect: For the duration of the spell, the target is capable of chewing and digesting gemstones, stone, dirt and metals without harm as easily as if it were raw vegetable. The target finds these substances palatable. 2 pounds of gem or metal provides nutrition as a full meal but stone and dirt, while edible, provide no nutritional benefit. Any "food" consumed, but not fully digested when the spell ends vanishes, neither providing nutrition nor harming the creature. This spell does not increase the opening to a character's mouth or increase the offensive capability of a creature's bite attack.

Xerotic Tongue
School: Polymorph
Level: Sorcerer/Wizard 3 / Bard 2 / Duid 2
Components: V
Duration: 1 minute/level
Range: Personal
Target: You
Saves: No

While under the effect of this spell, the casters tongue (or equivalent organ for lingually-challenged species) becomes supernaturally dehydrated and is capable of absorbing up to five gallons of liquid per minute. Impurities or poisons within the liquid are unaffected, and will interact normally with the physiology of the caster. The liquid is dispersed instantly throughout the casters body, causing no swelling of the tongue, however a constitution check is required after five gallons of liquid have been absorbed, and after each additional gallon beyond five. A failed constitution check will result in the caster gaining the Staggered condition until they relieve themselves. While under the effects of this spell, coherent speech of any kind is impossible, including the use of verbal spell components or command words.

You can produce an auditory illusion of xylophone music.

Also, Tongues could be renamed Xenoglossy.

Long ago, a wise and powerful wizard set out to make one of the least useful instruments on the planet famous. He failed, and what he did create he hid away, knowing all the other wizards would make fun of him if they knew he'd made it.

Xylophone Blast
School: Universal (Sorcerer/Wizard 2, Bard 1)
CT: 1 Round
Components V, S, F (xylophone)
Range: centered on caster
Effect: 15-ft.-radius spread or see text
Duration: See text
Save: Negates or see text
SR: Yes

You hit one of the keys of the xylophone, releasing a magical note. The way this affects those within depends on which key is activated.

D: Beams of light shoot in all directions. All within range, including the caster, must make Fortitude saves or be blinded for one round.
E: The note reverberates, as if distorted by a bad disc jockey. The caster is teleported fifteen feet southeast, and only southeast.
F: The note rings out on a frequency too shrill to be heard. All creatures within fifteen feet with above-human hearing (such as dogs or yrthaks) must make Fortitude saves or be deafened for one round per caster level.
G: No sound emits. 1d6 monkeys appear. The monkeys will take the xylophone and follow you around. Each round, one monkey will attempt to activate the xylophone, using a random key. If not killed, the key is activated, all within range (save monkeys) are properly affected, and the monkey vanishes.
A: The note starts playing again and again, as if a record is skipping. Time is distorted, and all allies within range may choose to reroll their next saving throw if called upon to make one in the next round. They must take the new result, even if it is worse.
B: A pleasant music fills the air. All within range, including the caster, must make a Will save or be affected as if by a lullaby.
C: A shrill note rips through the air. All within range must make a save or take 1d4+caster level sonic damage. This affects the caster, whose save can only halve the damage for himself.
D: A sound not unlike a kazoo fills the air, followed by a, "Oops. How'd that get in there?" Everyone within range is mildly confused, and must make Will saves or be staggered for one round.
E: A short but sweet note is transferred up to one mile in any direction. You can choose where the note is delivered, but will not know who hears it.
F: You suddenly realize you're going in a circle and quickly stop writing up your stupid spell.

Xerox
School: Universal (Sorcerer/Wizard 0, Bard 0, Cleric 0)
CT: 1 minute
Components V, S, M (vial of ink)
Duration: Instantaneous
You copy over one page of text to another page of text. This spell does not create new materials. It cannot be used to copy scrolls or magical glyphs like explosive runes, but you can use it to transcribe a nonmagical list of the spells in yours or another mage's spellbook. This text still requires read magic to decipher, and cannot be used to prepare spells.

This spell can be used on text not on paper, but the surface you copy onto must be paper, bark or parchment.

Chalk can be substituted for the ink, in which case a slate must be used in place of the paper. This version of the spell is easily erased.

Cleric (Xoveron) 3
School Conjuration
CT 1 Full Round

Duration 1 round/level
Range 25ft+5ft per level

This spell conjures a number of stained glass windows in the air above the caster (1/caster level maximum 10) to the full limit of the spell's range and then draws 1 creature/round towards it as a move action. Creatures drawn towards the window are hurled into the air (reflex negates) and smash through it causing 1d4 piercing damage followed by the sudden fall. The spell ends when either the duration ends or all windows are smashed.

XYLOPHAGE

School transmutation; Level druid 4
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, DF
Range touch
Target one nonmagical wooden object (or the volume of the object within 3 ft. of the touched point) or one wooden creature
Duration see text
Saving Throw none; Spell Resistance no

Any wooden item you touch crumbles into dust. If the item is so large that it cannot fit within a 3-foot radius, a 3-foot-radius volume of the wood is consumed and destroyed. Magic items made of wood are immune to this spell.

You may employ xylophage in combat with a successful melee touch attack. Xylophage used in this way instantaneously destroys 1d6 points of AC gained from wooden armor or shields (to the maximum amount of protection the armor or shield offers) through magical consumption.

Weapons in use by an opponent targeted by the spell are more difficult to grasp. You must succeed on a melee touch attack against the weapon. A wooden weapon that is hit is destroyed. Striking at an opponent's weapon provokes an attack of opportunity. Also, you must touch the weapon and not the other way around.

Against a wooden creature, xylophage instantaneously deals 3d6 points of damage + 1 per caster level (maximum +15) per successful attack. The spell lasts for 1 round per level, and you can make one melee touch attack per round.

The xill's eggs hatch in 24 hours, at which point the young consume the host from within, inflicting 1 point of Con damage per hour per young until the host dies. The young then emerge and planewalk to the Ethereal Plane, if possible, to mature. A remove disease spell (or similar effect) against this spell’s DC rids a victim of all implanted eggs or active young, or they can be cut out one at a time with DC 20 Heal checks (each attempt takes 10 minutes). Saving throw: None
Spell resistance: No

You create an ethereal xylophone made of force, suitable for use with the Perform(Percussion) skill. It occupies the same size space as yourself, appearing in an adjacent space of your choice. It is large enough and solid enough to provide partial cover. The xylophone is weightless, following you if you move (though you can move it to a different adjacent space as a free action once per turn.)

Edit: I am aware that 'Xylophone' has been used, but neither of those spells really were about xylophones.

Xenic Integration
School: Transmutation [Polymorph]
Level: Wizard/Sorcerer 3
Casting time: 1 standard action
Components: V, S, M (a tiny funnel)
Duration: 1 hour/level (D)
Range: Personal
Saving throw: None
Spell resistance: No

You immediately assume the physical form of an amalgamation of all members of the most populous humanoid or monstrous humanoid race in an area centered on you with a radius of one mile. You have no control over your exact appearance, but you always appear to be a normal, unremarkable member of the race you have become. Any indelible markings or scarring that appears in a similar fashion on most of the nearby members of that race appear on your new form as well. For example, if you cast this spell in the center of a hobgoblin city where members of its populous warrior caste possess special tribal tattoos, you will receive your own version of these markings as well.

For the duration of the spell, you receive an insight bonus on charisma-based skill checks equal to half your caster level against members of that race, as you absorb snippets of memory and understanding of cultural norms from the minds of those nearby. These memories are never enough to grant any tangible or intelligible information beyond this bonus to skill checks. You cannot use this spell to create a disguise as a specific individual, but it does grant a +20 bonus to disguise checks to appear as the race you have become. This spell otherwise functions as alter self.

Xenagogues Wisdom
School: Divination
Level: Ranger 1 / Duid 2 / Bard 3
Components: Focus (a Wayfinder)
Duration: 24 hours/level
Range: Personal
Target: You
Saves: No

While under the effect of this spell, and in possession of the focus, the caster gains a +1 insight bonus to any skills rolls (at DM discretion) relating to the act of guiding a group, such as Survival, Perception, Knowledge: Nature, or Profession: Scout. This bonus increases by +1 per caster level (maximum +15) for each member of the casters party who is not of their race, and decreases by 1 for each member of the party who is of the same race as the caster.

Xenomancy
School: Divination
Components: S, M
Casting time: 1 standard action
Duration: Concentration
Range: Personal
Target: You
Saves: No

While under the effect of this spell, and in the company of a living or undead creature that the caster has spent less than 24 hours with, the caster gains knowledge of how that creature will die (if it is alive), or how it has died previously (if it is undead). The knowledge may be quite detailed, or quite vague. This spell cannot be used multiple times to gain further knowledge of the same creature, except in circumstances where a previously effected creature will be involved in the death of a creature that is later effected.

Xiphoid Fists
School: Polymorph
Components: V, S
Casting time: Swift
Duration: 1 round/level
Range: Personal
Target: You
Saves: No

The caster transforms his hands into ragged blade-like appendages of bone, which do an additional 1 point of lethal damage per successful unarmed strike, and cause 1d3 points of bleed damage to creatures with DR/Piercing. While under the effect of this spell, the caster may not perform any task that would require normal use of the hands. If any roll to hit while under the effects of this spell results in a 1 (critical failure), apply the broken condition to the casters unarmed strikes for the duration of the spell. This spell cannot be dismissed.

Xylophores Strength
School: Transmutation

Components V, S, M(a ducks feather, and a chip of bark)
Range: touch
Target: creature touched
Duration: 10 min./level
Saving Throw: Will negates (harmless); Spell Resistance yes (harmless)

The spell grants a temporary +8 enhancement bonus to Strength for the purpose of determining carry, lift and drag weight limitations, or grapple checks, but only when the target is attempting to manipulate objects or creatures primarily formed or constructed of wood, such as trees, boats, wooden constructs, or witches (DM Discretion). This spell does not add the usual benefits to melee attack rolls, melee damage rolls, and other uses of the Strength modifier.

Xystarchs Touch
School: Transmutation
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V (Do you like gladiator movies?), S, M(a drop of sweat, a grain of sand)
Range: touch
Target: creature touched
Duration: 1 min./level
Saving Throw: Will negates (harmless); Spell Resistance yes (harmless)

The spell grants a temporary +10 morale bonus to skill checks involving displays of physical prowess, athleticism, or machismo (DM discretion). When the spell ends, the target gains the Fatigued condition for one round.

Xyzlacatosis
School: Enchantment (Bard 1)
Compontents: V
Casting time: 1 Standard action (see text)
Duration: Concentration
Range: Line of Sight (See text)
Target: 1 Creature who speaks common (or the most common language in setting)
Save: Will (See text)
Spell Resistance: Yes

The caster begins a pedantic conversation as to why the last few letters of the language's native alphabet has so few words beginning with that letter. To cast this spell, both the caster and the target creature must share the "common" language and be able to see and speak to eachother, even if it requires yelling. The target creature must make a will save (DC 11+charisma modifier) or spend the it's actions doing nothing but engaging the caster in conversation and walking towards the caster at half speed. The target creature may roll to break the spell once every round at the end of its turn. If the caster is has skill ranks in Perform(Oration) or Perform(Comedy), the caster then may instead spend a full round action to initiate the spell and a full round action to maintain the spell. In this case, the creature must make a save equal to DC 10+1/2 the ranks in the necessary perform skill+the caster's charisma modifier in order to resist the spell initially or shake off the spell's effects in later rounds. This is a mind effecting effect.
