Eobcin or Keobcin if it is Keen.

would that be said as ay-ohb-kin or ee-ohb-kin?

My character's name is Anna Grey, a female half-elf paladin.

Half-elven?

I would probably go with Clarity or Chalice, with a nod to the former since it is Keen. I would favor the latter if it were innately Holy.

Make sure the name goes with an appropriate battle cry!

"She sees the evil within you!"

"Drink from the cup of righteousness, fiend!"

If you go with Clarity, there's a dwarven axe in the 'legendary weapons' that has an amazing power to Detect Demons. That power would be an awesome addition to the blade. Also, adding the Guardian power to it so it can buttress your saves ("preserving your clarity of mind") would also be thematic.

If you go with CHalice and later make it Holy, having the Holiness manifest as holy water dripping off the blade ala Corrosive, would be quite thematic.

Pick a name you can build on, have fun with, and come up with multiple battle cries for.

==Aelryinth

I really like this one. It gets my vote.

so, what name did you settle on?

==Aelryinth

Instead of naming the sword I would identify it with the famous swordsmith who made it. A good example would be how they referred to Hanzo swords in Kill Bill.

Maybe refer to it as a Murumasa or Masamune blade.

I always thought giving your sword a name sounded pompous. I'd let others name it for me. Or at least use it for something astonishing first and name it after that.

"Evil's Reward" or "Just Reward" or (pardon the pun) just "Reward". :)

(I love, "Get off my plane", though. :D)

A faded elven inscription is set upside-down into the blade with soft, curling letters. when translated, it reads:

"If you can read this, you are likely dead."

"Knife" is also a good name.

if you wanna go fancy, then try something like a translation of "sword of purity".

inscribed on the blade would be something like "If a demon crosses your path, you shall cut him down. If a god crosses your path, you shall cut him down."

This reminds me. In one campaign I played a dwarf-blooded red wizard (his mostly-human ancestry was enough to let his family be Red wizards, though their honor wasn't terribly high). In exchange for his apprenticeship to the local Tharch, he crafted genuine "dwarven weapons" due to "genuine dwarven craftsmanship" - basically masterwork daggers with dwarven runes imprinted on them. (I never got to fabricate. That would have been great.)

On one side of the blade, in perfect dwarven runes was, "This end sharp; hold by handle only." (reference to a book) and in the other side was, "The pointy end goes into the other men." (reference to a movie).

The Tharch's guards (who didn't speak dwarven) thought that clearly the runes meant they weren't just masterwork, but magical and held the items in some amount of awe. The Tharch just thought it was... amusing. He let it go.

Well there's always the Tale From the Floating Vagabound weapon rating system.

Sharp Thing
Pointy Thing
Nasty Pointy Thing
Nasty Sharp Pointy Thing
Huge Nasty Sharp Pointy Thing...

Off-topic I liked the gun ratings too.
Tiny Gun...up to "Don't point that at my planet."

I was thinking Pointy or Phil Donahue. Those might be decent names for a sword.

Had one game where my group named the Barbarian's greatsword "The Sword of Chunky Salsa" due to how quickly fights ended with one swing of it. We even were going to have it develop into an intelligent item on its own.

Half-breed's cold vengeance
Eversharp evil's bane
Horncutter

And as a joke about the curved shape of the nodachi... Devil's bane Banana

I like the idea of naming a nodachi "Weeaboo".

Cleaver of Demons

2 people marked this as a favorite.

A sword that will be used in an area where the walls between the demonic abyss and the mortal world have been blasted open and there is nothing between all the innocents of the world and an army of purest evil bent on destruction but a small party of heroes with the slimmest of chances?

Snowball.

Silver Crusade

Tenchuu, or the Judgement of Heaven (roughly translated of course).
Tenken, heavenly sword as well. Or:
Jinchuu, Judgement of Earth. Declaring your strength as a mortal to overcome even the vileness of fiends seems poetic enough...

'Oy! UP YOURS!' works too though :)

Vera.

Heaven's Edge
Zangetsu
Or you could go classic like:
Durandel
Claíomh Solais
Caladbolg
Totsuka-no-Tsurugi

As in "snowball's chance in hell?" lol!

Silver Crusade

If it had merciful on it you could name it Mikaze.

sanguine glaciem, hreshtak beran,drakaz,vidua

The Living End, Iron-Eye or Hornbiter if you want to be Viking about it.

Or Corvus Felix if you like the whole multiple translations Latin thing.

I'm still going with Devil's bane banana.
