That is up to you. However, this is a competition to help Paizo fond more game writing talent, thus an understanding of game mechanics, formatting, etc. and a willingness to work within the set limits is important.
Well put - I have been placing more weight on technically proficient when it comes down to the wire like that. Hopefully its a learning opportunity for the author.

I find it odd that we both hit champion so close to the same time.
I am using a tablet right now so I can't hover over the voter tag. Does it say votes over 5000 times still? Maybe they decided to change it.

Yeah, that's the hover text. Congratulations. (Admittedly, that's a congratulations in a 'damn, I thought NOBODY was going to manage that this year!' kind of way...)

Still says the same thing, just different year.

Last night was my last chance to vote in round 1 because of my work schedule today. I just happened to see my own item when I was about to wrap it up anyway—seemed like a good time to stop.
I can't wait to see if my favorite items will make it to the top 32, including my own. Voting and reading these threads has been great fun.
Good luck to all entrants!

I have found voting from my phone a pain. And next year, I am going to specifically take time off to vote. I don't know why, but I have enjoyed it thoroughly this year! So I am going to try for at least marathon next year!

Price is about right for the effect but completely wrong for spell used and CL.
That is part of the art of pricing. Quite often the "calculated" to the rules price is way off. Knowing how to fit the price to the effect is part of the game of game designing :)

I have seen items that way. They have a continual spell working and are lower than they should be. At least, if I have done my math correctly (and I might not have). Look at the handy haversack. 2k for a continuous 5th level spell seems a prime example.
There are rules, but also "make it make sense" is a time. 35k for an item that only partially duplicates a spell is a bit steep. This is where an understanding of the game and creativity come into play - if it doesn't make sense, it is the exception and sometime's that is OK.
Here is hoping my ramblings from work make sense.
EDIT:
Ninja'd! Darn it, Anthony!

As others noted, that could be intentional. Having it right for the effect is the key part. My haunting glass, for example, was IIRC one-quarter the price it should have been if I'd just followed the chart with the spell and CL I'd chosen (granted, I was making a pretty big departure from the effect of the spell).

Am I hurting my chances by voting for some items 14-16 times and only 4 times for my item? (Because I'm shown the other items and not mine more times)
You shouldn't be, because somewhere someone if voting 14 times on your item and 4 on his (which might be one of your pairings).
It's all a combination of random number generations, how quickly the item list gets passed through and recycles and the nuber of people voting at the same time.

Still frustrated after voting just about every day and seeing the same items 9 or 10 times, and occasional new items here or there, and never seen my own submission... Makes me paranoid that maybe I missed something- that I didn't hit all the right buttons on submission and my item just never made it in there... Making me very anxious these last several hours...
Anyone else not finding their submission at all?

Well, if it helps at all:
I didn't see my item until after I was a few votes into dedicated. I saw it a second time 5 minutes later, but didn't see it a third time until well after I hit marathon. Try looking at the post-cull database list and see if someone saw your item after the "culling". It isn't 100% accurate, but might give you some peace of mind. Also, on the front of the RPGSS home page, it should still have the date/time you submitted your item.

And the little dots at the end are really important. I got an email from Paizo that says so...
It might have been epic the first time. Once you've already seen it, it becomes "classic," in the same way that computer games become classics a year after their release.

I have seen that item, but it's been a while (it was probably in my first hour or so of voting), so if anyone has the full description, I'd love to see it. I'd also be interested to see if other people are thinking of the same item. I don't remember the description of that one very well, but I don't think it struck me as particularly "intimate", or otherwise 50 Shades like. I might have been too hung up on the title to notice.
Of course, I haven't actually read 50 Shades. I have read Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel series, though, so maybe my Kink-o-Meter is calibrated differently from other people in the thread. :P
I've now heard from two different people, and gotten 3 different suggestions of what item people are referring to. At least one of them seemed likely, but apparently it isn't completely obvious.
When I re-read my quoted post, it got me wondering what I would expect if someone said they had seen a Kushiel's Dart item. Naturally, I had to make one. I only spent like 10 minutes on it, so it probably has some glaring flaws, but it was a fun exercise.
