I concur with human as the 1st Favored Enemy. Even then, expect it rarely and forget about it often by nature.
An alternative is to go with the Guide archetype for the ranger. You can pick which individual foe is your "favored enemy" for the scenario via Ranger's Focus.
This isn't a good option if you prefer a pet.

Undead, Humanoid(human), Outsider(evil) are all solid choices imo.
I've mostly seen Urban and Underground terrains in society play. If I had to pick a third I'd nab jungle.
This, but I would expand on this post by saying that it would be a good idea to stack all bonuses onto Humanoid (Human), and NOT select the others if you intend to do the wand of Instant Enemy thing.
That way you can use your maxed out bonus for Humans, Undead, and Outisders (Evil), by way of "Instant Enemy". You can choose things like Goblin, Orc, or whatever for your standard +2 enemy.
But yeah, as far as enemies go you can't go wrong with the 3 listed by Mr. sin

Humans are indeed very common - however the largest benefits of favored enemy are to be able to hit high ACs and hurt high DR creatures. That tends not to be Humans. Outsiders (evil) have both, Undead have the latter often (plus incorporeal). Constructs almost always have DR/Hardness, though rarely high ACs.
Aberrations are rarer, but often have good ACs and medium often DR (or strange ones). Very few giants in PFS actually - ACs can be medium-high, biggest benefit is increased damage to bring them down faster since they can hit very hard.

For PFS rangers you should always go Human 1st, Evil Outsiders Second and Undead third. Then stack Human as often as you possibly can.
Favored Enemy human is primary due to how often you'll get to use your bonus both in and out of combat. Remember you can apply your favored enemy bonus on Bluff, Knowledge, Perception, Sense Motive, and Survival checks against creatures of your selected type giving you a significant boost in social actions against this type.
Outsiders comes second on the list since you will ALWAYS encounter them more often and at higher levels of play then any option other then human. Add to that they are usually more likely to have DR or significant HP's that the extra hit (for Power Attack/Deadly Aim) and damage is needed more.
Undead barely make it into third place since you'll usually only be using the combat bonuses and undead are (for PFS) usually in a much narrower level range for being a problem.
Low level undead are boringly easy to dispatch (zombies/skeletons), mid-level undead tend to be weak or rare and high level undead are casters mostly and suffer all the issues caster bosses usually have.
