You know, after re-watching it I do have one major issue: why the blankety-blank did Hartley open the box? There's no way they were going to conceal they were there, Coulson had already asked Ross about the item...just grab the box and worry about the contents later!
She might have been thinking of double crossing the team.

Or it was the show's way of keeping equilibrium. It killed her off in fear of Xena taking over the cast.
Well They also killed Brad Dourif's character off in one episode, even though previous ones had suggested he might be the big bad.

Whedon will continue to kill off characters for inscrutable purposes, and fans will continue to tune in.
He kills them off for dramatic purposes and to move along the plot. Killing off Tara in Buffy, for instance, was instrumental in the development of Willow's character. Not to mention that it aired out the skeletons in Buffy's head as well.

You know, as much as people (including myself) refer to this as a Joss Whedon show he actually only has 1 "written by" or "directed by" credit for the entire series, which was the pilot. All of his other credits are "created by" or "Produced by" credits so while he may have set the tone he's not actually involved in the day to day production and direction of the show. Just food for thought.

Just waiting for one of the characters to have 2 weeks to go before retirement.

Yes, it is s&ty beyond belief, so much so that I think Dourif will show up again somewhat... somehow...

Now that I've seen Absorbing Man in the show... dare I hope for a Brad Dourif as Molecule Man? :) :) :)
I mean, Molecule Man would have no problem reforming himself after or at time of death right? :)

Well they are going for dark and gritty, not four color, which means in a Shield series, characters are going to die, with most likely Fitz being next, now that Skye has made him redundant.
Nah...Fitz has perhaps one of the most intriguing arcs on the show right now. Simmons and May though...

I'm guessing you didn't stay tuned for next week's preview showing Simmons in her HYDRA uniform hmmmmm?

PDK spoilers dude. Plus who watches the previews?
I liked the episode. It was good.
** spoiler omitted **
if it's in the preview shot for next week, I don't use spoilers, sorry... as it probably means nothing in itself or some kind of red herring... but ok... we should have an entire "spoiler don't look" thread to enable fast discussion!

Well since I wrote that the morning or so before the episode aired, that would have required psychic abilities, so no I didn't :)

I disagree.
Preliminary tests show that you are "gifted."
Also, what lotto numbers are you playing?

Finally saw it.
I missed it last night & watched as soon as it came up on HULU - only part I regret is not getting the 'coming next week' spoiler.
Fun episode. I think Coulson's been channeling Fury.
I'm also beginning to agree with the 'Skye is a pre-terrigen mist inhuman', which, btw, would also make her Kree, linking the blue alien.
If so, I'm placing a bet on her dad's identity: Maximus the Mad.
Something about his actions seemed to remind me of that character.
And, as a plothook...let her walk in on one of Coulson's 'episodes' and say something along the lines of 'Let's find out why I, of everyone injected with that stuff, am NOT freaking out and carving symbols everywhere.'
Edit: Interesting

My only problem with the latest episode was a skilled mercenary, having a sniper rifle and a clear shot to a target that had no idea he was there, taking the time to go all the way to street level and causing a panic with the gun he was carrying to take a closer shot, thereby ruining everything so Coulson could swoop in and save the day. Makes no sense, except as an obvious way to move the plot.

Double agent maybe?

By going in closer, he both lost the football and failed to take out the target.
Pissed people wanting revenge aren't known for thinking clearly. They are known for often wanting to do the deed themselves. And just because one guy can set up a good sniper shot doesn't mean someone else can effectively take advantage of it. Of course, if we see Mr. Merc playing sniper later on that will change things.

Why shoot him? Why bring him back on the show in the first place? You need to clarify what you're incredulous about.
Personally, I doubt he's dead. Fairly typical comic-book/TV non-death death.
As for the rest of the episode itself, it was pretty good. Still not sure I believe Simmons has managed to become a good undercover agent during the off-season (or Skye a badass, for that matter) but I did like that she had a very plausible cover that didn't require her to lie much.
Definitely looking forward to the possibly lighter episode next week. This season has been a little heavy with the dark so far.
That said, May getting her revenge on Hunter was pretty amusing (and the fact that Tripp still owes him.)

Skye never said they found the body....so yeah I am definitely assuming Donnie is alive. And maybe getting shot and not being able to use his power from a distance will encourage him to build a suit like he has in the comics. Maybe team Rayna will recruit him? Getting brainwashed by Hydra and shot by Shield probably won't endear him to either side.
I enjoyed the Fitz finding Ward, and Ward's reaction. I am also not entirely convinced by Fitz's line about him not being a killer. I think he would have totally killed Ward had Ward not told him his friends were in danger
Also, I am enjoying the agency branding :). I remember a lot of people complaining about how shield puts their logo everywhere. Obviously, who ever was responsible for that decision must have been recruited by Hydra as well :P

Spiral_Ninja |

My favorite line: "You're not here."
and...I was considering asking for a show of hands to see who thinks
BTW, Hydra always put their logo everywhere. I think the branding guy worked for them first, not the reverse.

What the heck?
Don Gill, why?
My issue is why was it necessary to (attempt to) kill Don Gill? Given Colson's reluctance to kill Mike Peterson, I am more surprised he wasn't looking for a non-lethal option here.
Um' Ice floats.
But it also can greatly slow the body in cases of trauma (like being shot by a sniper rifle) If he were found later and given the right medical treatment he could recover (at least partially).

My thoughts exactly. I was just pointing out that if they were searching the ocean floor for the body they were looking in the wrong place.

As sort of mentioned in previous episodes, now that Coulson is Director, he has to make the tough calls. In this case, given the strength of Hydra, they can't afford to to let them acquire another super-powered asset. Just look at how difficult Creel was to deal with.
Had they reached Donnie first, I think they would have been more open to entertaining other ideas besides Shield recruitment. Unfortunately, Hydra beat them there.
Personally I wonder if Rayna didn't get a hold of him instead after he was shot.

This might also explain the need for a life sustaining armored suit.
