I've also been wondering: what is the significance of the double-colon (like :: this), that some use in their thread titles?
It's a programming term used to denote scope or context. It's also a logic term used to denote equivalence.
We use it quite a bit in T7V's application process. Also, our recruitment thread here (and quite a few others, probably at least some of which simply followed our lead) uses it. In the example "Chartered Company :: The Seventh Veil", it's simply used to indicate that "The Seventh Veil" is a "Chartered Company". I suppose it's primary utility in this case is that it makes the thread instantly recognizable as a Chartered Company recruitment thread.

Thanks, Nihimon and Lifedragn!
Though it's still a small update, it's a new month and a new page of the thread, so I'll go ahead and repost the roll. As always, let me know if there are any changes to make or errors to fix, and if you see names missing for people who are actually around and posting, be sure to invite them to post here! Off the top of my head, I've noticed Mbando and Summersnow as present but not yet accounted for.

I think it could be useful to get an idea of how many EE backers are reading these forums. There are a handful of folks who post on many threads every day, but it would be good to see who's out there on the 'lurker' end of the spectrum too.
If you visit this forum at least once a week, chime in with your name and any player organization (guild, CC, settlement, etc.) affiliation you have. If you like, add a short comment about your thoughts on what's been going on in the game and community development recently.
While not really in the spirit of the OP, I don't see the harm if Keovar wants to. The only thing I have to ask is what is the point?
If someone posts a lot, we know they post a lot because we see their posts. Also, the only way to get an authentic count is to go through every post to see which forum it's under, and I doubt anyone wants to do that. That margin of error would be minimal in most cases, but it brings me back to the question... what's the point when you can click someone's name and see their number of posts?
Nihimon Goblin Squad Member |
Keovar Goblin Squad Member |
This feels like it's becoming a bit of an "epeen" contest.
As if the stickied landrush poll isn't far more problematic?
That's not really the point, though. I want to know the people I'll be 'crowdforging' and gaming with a little better, and see who is at least paying attention to the devblogs (that's why I started this on a Wednesday) even if not posting.I hope people won't sockpuppet, but I also hope that getting some 'lurkers' (or other minimal-participation community members) to make one post will lead to greater participation from them in the future. You've got lists of information as your community resource, which I greatly appreciate, and I've got this one.
Please, by all means, motivate more people to post. I hope everyone will.

Hey Keovar, are the entire guild rosters for TEO, T7V, Golgathan, posted, etc?
It looks like the entire Pax roster is but only a select few common posters from the other ones... I'd like to get a more accurate scope of the size of the respective guilds.
If not, could the other guilds send Keovar a roster which he can post?
Lhan Goblin Squad Member |
It's certainly nowhere near our full roster Qallz, nor that of TEO or I suspect Golgotha. Many of our members have gone into lurk mode until closer to the start of EE, so what having a list of them would achieve I don't really know; some of them may even have decided to take their playing time elsewhere. As for that being the whole Pax roster - well I wouldn't like to speak for them but I think you might find that there are just a few (hundred) more of them, waiting in the wings.
It's still a long way to EE and for every one of us who posts here there are 10 people who lurk; for every one of them there are 10 more who'll come back closer to launch. Lists now are just a way for a few of us (the loud mouths, essentially, though there are exceptions) to get to know each other, nothing more. Come EE there'll be a whole slew of guilds that nobody active on these boards has ever heard of, because right now they are doing other things.
Lifedragn Goblin Squad Member |
I won't divulge specific numbers as I do not know how public knowledge our leadership wants that to be, but I can say that TEO's Roster name count is well above what we have on the landrush sticky votes. The roster has been updated for known departures over time. A significant portion of our membership is inactive pending Early Enrollment or only sporadically checking in while our core active group has mostly checked in here, I believe. Whether they all make it back to join us for EE is another story, but I believe we'll get most of them. Which is likely the same story for most of the Companies that have gone silent on the boards after their initial recruitment drives. Further to Lhan's point, there is well more than 16 companies listed on the landrush board, in contrast with what we have represented here.

I've only added individuals who've posted in this thread. There are people I've seen post recently in other threads, and I may even know what their affiliation is, but I'm not adding them until they post here. If you see folks on the board who haven't posted here yet, send them a PM, don't send me their info.
There were 8732 pledges, though some of them only wanted the PFS cert or miniatures and there are some backers who made multiple KS accounts for their own use. On the other hand, there are CF Buddy and CF Guild accounts that represent multiple players under one pledge. I don't know how well those factors balance out, but the list here is around 1.5% of the pledge total. I think a lot of folks stopped paying attention to this little forum when they realized there wouldn't be m/any obvious crowdforging threads like polls.

I'm unaffiliated, I'm not much of a people person as my quaint (and perfectly decorated) cottage in the middle of the dark forest reflects that. The adventurist within my soul is quite excited for this game and I'm saddened I missed the Kickstarter. However, my wallet is ready to be supportive when Goblinworks opens the gates. I have potions to sell and witch's brew to bubble!
Beware the traveler who comes to my cottage looking for trouble, uninvited guests are bad enough!

While they are clearly the biggest guild at this point, the number of kickstarter backers who are not active on the forums are far, far greater. I expect any community numbers thread is going to need be updated once people start actually playing the game.

I believe the conveyance of that data point is the primary purpose of this thread.
I can see that, and I freely admit having no end of trouble keeping alliances straight in my head. I'm trying to avoid starting a scorecard...yet. Keovar, it feels as if you may need to re-organise your display again at some point--when alliances are more common and feel "permanent"--to bring alliances next to one another under a new set of labels.

This thread would probably be useful if it actually listed folks who were active participants in the PFO Forums community.
*deleted text*
Oh to hell with it.
I was going to ask you why you are making an issue of this. Now I am just letting you know that I did wonder, but don't care anymore.
What you suggest "would be useful" wasn't what the OP requested.
Pax Charlie George Goblin Squad Member |
Meh, I am not concerned.
If any group wants their numbers more well represented, they could have more people in their rosters post here.
Then, you know, attempt to get them more active on the forums. It gets them invested and gives more voices to the current conversations.
That is what was attempted, and is still being attempted. That is likely why our numbers are represented as they are.
But still, whatevs.
Keovar Goblin Squad Member |
This thread would probably be useful if it actually listed folks who were active participants in the PFO Forums community.
So I should take that as a request to remove T7V from the list next time, then? Or are you just requesting that individually?
Alternatively, you could just ask your people to post and stop crying foul where none exists. That's all I did.
I made the thread asking everyone to post, and about 6 weeks later when that slowed down I noticed there were Pax members who were posting in the Aeternum thread but hadn't shown up here. There were also some who mentioned threads from this forum on our own communication channels, indicating they were reading but hadn't posted yet. I called the thread to their attention. I was hoping you might do the same for T7V, Andius would ask TEO to post, and other leaders would do likewise.
Start your own thread about postcounts and the top 10 will be a who's who of posters who've been circling each other with the same predictable positions for around 8 months now, ever since the post-KS Crowdforging-hype phase died down. I've tried to make this thread as inclusive as possible so it's not just the crowd who chimes in on every thread.
I'm not a leader in Pax and while I feel that they're happy to have me most of the time I hold no special sway. I just asked for support and got it.

Keovar, I like that you've made the effort to put this together. Yes, there're folks here today who've not joined your thread, and yes, there'll be many folks who plan to play who may join later...or not at all.
It's still nice to see your compiled list of names and groups. I've used it as a reference more than once to see how consistently a voice is staying in-line with--or deviating from--others from their chosen group.

This thread would probably be useful if it actually listed folks who were active participants in the PFO Forums community.
Last time I checked, you are free to create whatever thread you like.
Instead of complaining about the thread over and over, you could actually read the OP, then have your membership post.
I expected once CotP / TEO was officially announced, we'd see more of them on here. They average roughly 100 members active per day.
If people read the OP and got their membership to post it wouldn't be lopsided.
That's what this is about... getting more people involved.
You do a disservice to all the positive contributions you've made to the community when you are passive aggressive and petty. Behavior like that makes newcomers feel unwelcome, like they are walking into a drama filled forum.
Again, I thought we had moved past that. Obviously not.
Like you said, it is what it is.
I guess there is a reason the Xeilian Empire accounts for 43% instead of 22% like other numbers suggest.

I support the introductions from people who are posters here, and even the compilations of names. I don't think that creating an accound purely to post here is in the spirit of this thread.
Can you lurk here without an account? Yes.
Can you meet the intent of the OP without an account? No.
Since you can't post without an account, how would you expect them to do as the OP requested of them Decius?
